Can someone explain what delay, chorus and overdrive pedals do? I don't have a clue but I've just bought one and would like to use it. Do I need an amp?
Thanks in advance ![]()

huh? why the hell do you buy stuff without knowing what they do and how they are used?
![]() ok: delay: repeats the input signal a set number of times after a certain time (you have to regulate that yourself). a form of the delay can be an echo.... chorus: the input signal is doubled (or generally multiplied), though these copies are a little detuned, producing an effect as if there were more than 1 guitars - more or less, personally i think it just gives it a little "spacyness" and wider range in sound. overdrive: simulates the effect of an overdriven end-amplifier. the sinus waves are cut, which distorts the signal and adds loads of harmonics to the signal. overdrive = distortion = fuzz , ACTUALLY, though as time went by, those different "forms" of distortion or their names achieved a connotation so everybody know's what's meant, because they do sound different. overdrive is often referred to tube amplifiers with their softer, fatter sound, distortion describes the general effect, tough a distrotion pedal normally refers to solid-state-amplifiers, harder, edgier sound... and fuzz... well, it's real "dirty"... before the invention of overdrive etc., people literally cut holes into their expensive loudspeakers... and that makes the typical "fuzz" sound.... pretty technical, eh? short: delay: BAP...Bap...bap...bap............. chorus: uueeuuuuuueeuuuueeuuuuuueeuuuuuuee (not like a siren, just detuned) overdrive: deaaang (or whatever just distorted , haha^^)----------EDIT------------ before i forget: you would need an amp, yes. as an alternative, you could hook it up to some headphones.... normally, those pedals have little amps (pre-amps) built in, so the signal is loud enough to be heard with headphones... maybe you can plug it into a stereo-/hifi-system to hear it even louder (that's what i do in my bedroom where i don't have my proper guitar amp) |

um, yes
![]() you know, an amp or the "integrated circuit" for an operating amplifier (op-amp IC) ![]() is normally not bigger than 0,3cm x 0,7cm ( = very small )...of course you need some additional parts... |

Quote: It's an Ashton DL30 delay pedal and it was a Christmas sale so I got it for a fraction of the price. Here's a link: http://www.shopwiki.co.uk/_Ashton+DL30+Delay+Pedal Same as I got a guitar worth $1000 for just $350 ![]()

^ I'm not exactly sure, but it's an acoustic with a round back and it's called Celebrity. It's amazing to play

it's a cheaper version of the typical Ovation guitar... it's actually not woth 1000$
oh, wait a sec... haha it's not worth 1000 USD, but 1000 AUD.... yeah, that makes sense ![]() that's a good one... though not an electric but closer than other acoustics... good choice btw. |
