Full press conference

(19th October) Wayne Rooney wants to LEAVE Manchester United - Sir Alex Ferguson Emotional Press Conference - speaking about Wayne's future & ankle injury, before Mananchester United vs Champions League Match

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Wayne Rooney has intimated to him that he wants to leave Manchester United.

He claims to have held a meeting with the talismanic frontman and his representative, during which the 24-year-old admitted that he has no intention of signing a new contract and is keen to take on a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Speculation had been mounting that Rooney could soon be on his way out of Old Trafford after seeing his relationship with his manager stretched to breaking point.

It is claimed that the England international feels frozen out at present, having been omitted from games he believes he was fit enough to play in - with United continuously claiming that he was nursing an ankle knock.

Rooney admitted as much after turning out for his country in a recent Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro, revealing that he had no idea as to why Ferguson continued to overlook him.

The United boss is said to have been incensed at seeing his authority undermined and has made little effort to interact with his star striker ever since.

That has fuelled rumours that Rooney could be on his way in the January transfer window, with Ferguson's decision to leave him on the bench for Saturday's Premier League meeting with West Brom only serving to fuel the fire.
Dumbfounded

The usual suspects have already been linked with a big-money approach in the New Year, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and even Manchester City all reported to be waiting in the wings.

Ferguson insists there has been no falling out between himself and Rooney, claiming the door is still open for him to stay, but acknowledges that a bidding war is now likely with the player making it clear that he intends to move on.

"David (Gill, chief executive) in the early part of the summer had opened talks with his agent and that was to be continued after the World Cup," said the United boss.

"I was in the office on 14th August and David phoned me to say he wasn't signing a contract.

"I was dumbfounded. Only months before he was saying he was at the greatest club in the world.

"I asked to have a meeting with the boy. He reiterated what his agent said, that he wanted to go."

Rooney clearly has no integrity whatsoever.
He also appears to have about as much respect for Fergie as he does for Colleen.
Man U fans must feel totally insulted too.
The sooner he leaves the club the better IMO.
In terms of professionalism, Ryan Giggs is ten times the player that Rooney is. Don't forget his reaction to the (deserved) booing at the World Cup, either.

Can you really see him being able to gain respect in a foreign country with the way he conducts himself? I very much doubt it.

Yet another player who has got far too big for his boots. He deserves to be dropped by England too the way he's been playing.

LUL at the thought of Rooney learning Italian or Spanish- that actually could be a factor.

But regardless of the idiot in the middle of all this, what this signifies could be huge, it could be the beginning of the end for United as a huge team, which is a crazy thought for me as I've always known them as being in the top 3 every season.

They're losing their star player, he's a United icon, they won't find another Rooney. They're in huge debt and the owners show no signs of trying to change that. Scholes and Giggs will soon be retiring (Presumably, they're so old) and that's the last of the big United names, from there they just look like another mid-table club.

Some of the women he's been knocking off have gangster boyfriends apparently. I wouldn't be surprised if he wants out of the country. He's crazy if he wants to leave United.

Nevermind I found one:

But it states that his weekly wage is £270,000?! Can't be right, his request for £200,000 was rejected.

I like Mancini as a person and a manager - so certainly I think you should keep him in for the long run. However I hope Arsenal beat you on Sunday. Despite his whinging Arsene Wenger is a true statesman of football. I just think he's a genius. His refusal to become embroiled in the money spinning world of football will, in my belief, ultimately prove to be an incredible policy once UEFA financial doping rules come into play. His economic handling is second to none and I wish he was Chancellor of the Exchequer! He has a masters degree in economics so.....anytime your ready Arsene!

Agreed Arsenal could be one of the best teams in the world, under these new rules... !
Arsene Wenger is a fecking fantastic manager... !

Ferguson's right, he is being ungrateful and disrespectful. There are no players who feel they should have this kind of entitlement, to be picked for every game. Now, it is a little suspect that Fergie stopped him playing against Everton for what's basically a bullshit reason, and then claims his ankle injury is worse then it appears to 'rest him', but bullshit excuses aside, if he doesn't want to play someone who's having an off the pitch personal nightmare and who has been playing consistent blank performances for both club and country for a handful of months now, then the manager has a right to leave him out.

Rooney will already be hated by United fans, he probably already is. The only first team players who had a choice to stay at United that I can think of in the past 10-15 years are Ronaldo and David Beckham, both left in a less explosive and dignified manner. So it's not often a United player feels they're bigger then the club, and this is certainly how it look's for Rooney.

He may as well go to City, it's impossible he'll get hated any more then what he'll be hated anyway, and the boo's for Rooney's first derby performance in light blue will shatter some kind of record or something. That'll be fun.

I can totally see him not fitting in with that team, getting quickly frustrated and flopping. You don't get many chances to play as a forward for a team worth hundreds of millions. I heard a pundit saying that great players fit into any team, but he's not even fitting into his own team right now, and last season was the first time he's played at a consistent standard over a handful of months, before that he's always been good in patches.

I hope he goes to City and fluffs up.

Headache: Wayne Rooney's desire to leave Old Trafford has caused a storm of controversy

Wayne Rooney claims Manchester United's lack of ambition is reason he wants to quit

Wayne Rooney has confirmed he wants to leave Manchester United after they failed to give him assurances over future signings.

Rooney made his claims in a statement released this evening in response to Sir Alex Ferguson's comments on Tuesday.

"I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad," said Rooney. "I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract."

Rooney admitted he was surprised by the depth of Ferguson's comments yesterday. He remains a big fan of the United manager but says the future direction of the club was causing him concern. "I was interested to hear what Sir Alex had to say yesterday and surprised by some of it," continued Rooney. "It is absolutely true, as he said, that my agent and I have had a number of meetings with the club about a new contract. During those meetings in August I asked for assurances about the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world.

"I have never had anything but complete respect for MUFC. How could I not have done given its fantastic history and especially the last six years in which I have been lucky to play a part? For me its all about winning trophies - as the club has always done under Sir Alex. Because of that I think the questions I was asking were justified. Despite recent difficulties, I know I will always owe Sir Alex Ferguson a huge debt. He is a great manager and mentor who has helped and supported me from the day he signed me from Everton when I was only 18.

"For Manchester United's sake I wish he could go on forever because he's a one off and a genius."

Wow that was concise and very well put, did they edit out all the typical footballer cliches like "At the end of the day..." and "What the gaffer says goes" and who could forget "Errrhh uuumm".

Official statements can be written by anyone. His agent probably hired a scriptwriter.
There are far too many long words for them to have come out of Rooney's mouth.

Haha yes I know, anyone who's heard Rooney speak know that these words didn't just roll straight out of him. He may have written it or at least given the same sentiments, but the quote mark's give the impression he just came out with all that on a whim, impossible.
