Two males have been taken to hospital, one in serious condition, after both were slashed in the neck during the Coldplay concert at Calgary's Saddledome in Canada last night. The two men had their throats cut as what was supposed to be a good time at the Coldplay concert turned violent.

The incident happened inside the Saddledome at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, as the concert was winding down. One of the patients was taken by paramedics to Foothills Medical Centre with serious injuries, while the other was taken to Rockyview General Hospital with 'less serious' injuries, police said. "We're not sure if it was a fight or an assault or what happened. There have been a number of people detained at the scene and our members are interviewing them to ascertain what happened," said duty inspector Craig Skelton.

coldplay record sales UK contribution

Adele and Coldplay helped boost homegrown album sales in 2011, various sources are reporting this week in the UK. The acts'

respective efforts, along with other major releases from Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Amy Winehouse and Olly Murs, accounted for

52.7% of sales in the UK last year. Each of the above artists sold over 500,000 copies of their records in Britain, with

Coldplay selling near to a million copies of Mylo Xyloto and Adele selling close to four million copies of 21.

The new figures mean that UK artists have claimed the highest share of British album sales in 15 years. US artists - along

with releases from Lady GaGa, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Kanye West - accounted for a third of all UK sales, with Canadian releases

from Michael Buble and Justin Bieber claiming 4.5%. Meanwhile, Rihanna single handedly puts Barbados in fourth place after

claiming 2.3% of all sales with her Loud and Talk That Talk albums.

George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Martin Scorsese are among the stars lined up to appear on Jimmy Kimmel's post-Oscars show on

Sunday, February 26.

The seventh annual Jimmy Kimmel Live: After The Academy Awards special will also welcome Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren,

Charlize Theron, Don Cheadle and Oscars host Billy Crystal.

Coldplay will draw the show to a close with a block party performance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live outdoor stage. The show will

broadcast from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood after the Academy Awards and late local news. Scorsese's Hugo is this

year's leading Oscars nominee with recognition in 11 categories including 'Best Picture' and 'Best Director' for Scorsese.

The Artist, Clooney's The Descendants, Moneyball and War Horse are also multiple nominees, while Streep has been nominated

in the 'Best Actress' category for her role in The Iron Lady. The Oscars air live from the Kodak Theatre on Sunday,
After exchanging hugs with Chris, Jay took over the stage from Coldplay, who had a riot of a performance with lots of color and movement, in contrast to the rapper who was alone on stage and was mostly standing throughout his performance as he spit his rhymes.

Coldplay kicked off the concert at 10pm and played a 15-song set, to the delight of a packed Barclays Center. The venue lit up as fans were each given bracelets that had multi-colored lights that blinked in step. The crowd sang along with the band as they dished out their hits "The Scientist" and "Paradise", as confetti canons and world map beach balls were rolled out. Rihanna appeared in the screens put up around the arena as the band performed "Princess of China".
For some time, the British band has been a well-oiled entertainment machine, and last night at Barclays Center their vast array of bells and whistles took up almost as much focus as any of their songs. There probably isn’t a crowd in the world that Chris Martin can’t coax into excitement and even though the band is due to play a New Year’s Eve show at Barclays with Jay-Z tonight, the front man was determined to get the party started early. “No one ever spares a thought for poor old December 30th,” he chirped. “Tomorrow’s just a ‘warm down’ for this show!”
He didn't just play guitar. He hopped and sprang while he did, doubling over or throwing his head back. When he took to the piano for songs like "Paradise," he didn't merely tap the keys. He thumped them, and he bounced on the stool. He bounded down the stage runway with his so-unhip-they're-hip dance moves and then dropped to his knees and bent backwards like a latter-day Springsteen.
He made sure to play to every part of the arena — scampering up to the top tier to perform a couple of songs, taking a few tours around the ramp behind the stage to give audience members back there their due...
"We want to make this the most memorable night of your life," he declared at the outset of a 90 minute performance. "So every year when December 29 rolls around, you will celebrate."

Whether or not the 10,000 or so fans gathered in the Connecticut woods will be holding an annual celebration remains to be seen, but Coldplay made a solid effort at turning an ordinary arena concert into something memorable. Yes there were a lot of props and lasers and suspended video boards that some might consider gimmicky. But sometimes gimmicky equates to memorable...

As clarified by NME, Chris Martin recently told an Australian audience that they'd be away for three years. (Translation: it'll be another three years before Coldplay writes, records, releases a new album and then makes it back down under on their next tour. Isn't all that confusing to me, but whatever, shrug.)

Instead, the band will head back into the studio to begin work on their sixth and definitely easier to pronounce album. In the meantime, the inevitable guessing game begins: where can Coldplay take their ever-changing sound next? Even deeper into the dense modern pop textures of Mylo Xyloto, or back to the lush post-Britpop acoustics of their early work? Let's weigh a few possibilities…
