This actually reminds me of part of an interview with Matt Bellamy:

I spent the whole weekend filming for a Media assignment, and basically got nothing elso done because of it. Then on Tuesday my friend was taking it home to do the editing, and left the video camera and tape on the bus. So now, all those long hours and hard work is just goooooooonnnnnnnnneeeeee:cry:

 

Then today in Music I just did the worst performance of my life, and to make matters worse, the whole creative arts teachers were there to witness it:(

Oh geez, this is going to be a long post. Kudos to whoever chooses to read it, and if you're debating about whether to take the plunge, I promise it'll be entertaining!

 

Here's a summary of what happened to me a few weeks ago:

 

I was at home minding my own business on Friday night/ Saturday morning. My mom got a phone call from my brother (who's 19) that he was at a party that was getting busted by the cops. So she told me to go down there and figure out what would happen to him.

 

This was probably the first mistake, because if I had thought this through, I would have realized that the cops might have assumed I was attending the party as well. Thankfully they didn't.

 

So I showed up to where the party was, in some rural backwoods area. There were about 6 cop cars out there and a few of the cops were inside the house interrogating kids, while the rest of the kids were outside in the yard (about 40 or so, being closely watched by three cops). I approached the three cops and said, "I see my brother. What are you guys going to do with him? Is he under arrest?" and one of the cops said "Yeah, he's under arrest." and then immediately after he said that, another cop (who was higher ranking) ran up to me and said, "Wait, no, he's not under arrest just yet. We're still trying to figure that out."

 

So I said, "OK. How long will it take?"

 

He goes, "Not too much longer."

 

I say, "Alright, I'll wait in my car. Let me know when you've made your decision." And I walked back to my car, which was about 50 feet away. I was goofing with my GPS when about 15 minutes later, my brother opens the passenger door and sits down in the car. He says, "OK, we can go now." So I turned on the car, put it in reverse, and backed up literally 3 feet or so before I saw a cop (the one who said he was under arrest the first time) running at me, waving his arms real big. So I immediately stopped and cut the car off, at which point we were told to get out of the car and were cuffed.

 

On my arrest warrant the cop said I: "Knowingly and willfully frustrated and hindered an officer making an arrest" and that I "snuck onto the property" and "removed the suspect therefrom". All of which are lies, I never left the property.

 

Anyway, please let that be a lesson to you: some cops aren't professional, and they'll get mad at you if you embarrass them in front of their buddies. In this case I asked a simple question ('is he under arrest or not?') and the result was the arresting officer being directly contradicted by the ranking officer. That was cringeworthy. Second, this cop didn't know the proper terminology for the charge he was arresting me for. He said I was under arrest for "obstruction of justice", which if you read my other posts, is something that only government officials and other cops are charged with. Obstruction of justice is a felony, I was actually charged with "hindering an officer" which is a misdemeanor. The judge or booking officer must have corrected him. Third, cops will lie when writing your arrest warrant. If my case goes to trial, I fully expect the officer to get on the stand and claim I led him on a ten mile chase before finally giving up. And who will the judge believe? The guy he goes out to lunch with every Thursday, that's who.

 

I'm currently bonded out on a $5000 "personal recognizance" bond, which means I didn't actually have to fork up the money to get it (thank God). It helps that I have no previous record, not even any traffic tickets. The maximum sentence I can get is 1 year in jail and a $1000 fine. Remember, I've got the exact same charge you'd get if you had been driving the white Bronco with OJ Simpson in the passenger-side seat!

 

^^ I wrote the stuff above right after I got out of jail (I was there for three days).

 

Flash forward to today. I decided to do something called "PTI" (Pre Trial Intervention) instead of taking this case before a jury. PTI is where you pay a fine ($635) and then you take a couple of classes on how to be a good citizen and you do 50 hours of community service.

 

This morning my mom took my brother to the courthouse for a roll call, where they just assign your case to a solicitor. It's just procedural. Anyway, she ran into the man who arrested us. His name is Cpl. Brian Morris. She explained what happened to him, and why I started to drive off (because my brother lied to me) and he literally screamed and yelled at her. He said, "You should be happy your sons are getting PTI. I could take that away from them." or something to that effect. So my mom comes home and tells me all about this encounter, and I become furious.

 

I've changed my mind and (at least for now) decided to take this thing to trial. So I called up the lady in charge of PTI, and I told her my intentions. She gasped and said, "BRIAN MORRIS ARRESTED YOU?" and told me that he was in the news recently:

Cpl. Morris left a loaded rifle in the front seat of his cop car. He left his car unlocked and walked away. In the meantime, a suicidal man took the gun out of his car and shot himself with it. This happened just last week.

 

What's Mr. Morris's punishment? Nothing.

Thanks violetsparks, that means a lot to me... my first court date is on Friday at 9:00 AM and originally I wasn't going to go because of PTI, but now I might... it depends on if this lawyer calls me back before then.

 

Imagine if I had left a loaded gun in the front seat of my car and left my car unlocked. And some dude comes along and kills himself with it. You think I might get in trouble for that? At the very LEAST I wouldn't have a license to own a gun anymore. But this douche is going to remain a cop. It's amazing.
