It is, but in a very positive way. This song is unlike anything they've done so far

On the 3rd listen right now. It's growing on me and I specially like the last part. Is it Brian Eno or another member singing during that part? Definetily the kind of song I would expect them to never play llive lol.

Lyrics:

WE WERE JUST ABOUT TO LOSE OUR HOME

DIAMONDS ATE THE RADIO

MOVING IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT

WE TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS

JUST SOME JUST SO

HISTORY HAS SOME TO KNOW

WE WERE MOVING AT THE SPEED OF FLIGHT

KIDS, CRY

IF YOU

WANT TO

THAT'S ALRIGHT

IF YOU

WANT TO

HOLD ME

HOLD ME TIGHT

JUST AN ALIEN

WE WERE HOVERING WITHOUT A HOME

MILLIONS ARE UFO

HOVERING IN HOPE SOME SCOPE

TONIGHT

SEES THE LIGHT AND SAYS

FLY IF YOU

WANT TO

THAT'S ALRIGHT

BUT IF YOU

WANT TO

CALL ME

CALL THIS LINE

JUST AN ALIEN

JUST AN ALIEN

OH WE JUST WANT TO GET HOME AGAIN

TELL YOUR LEADER

SIR OR MA'AM

WE COME IN PEACE

WE MEAN NO HARM

SOMEWHERE OUT THERE

IN THE UNKNOWN

ALL THE ET'S ARE PHONING HOME

WATCHING MY LIFE

ON THE SKYLINE

CROSSING YOUR EYES

FOR A LIFETIME

JUST AN ALIEN (MOVING TARGET)

TARGET MOVEMENT

A PATCH A CORNER

OF THE SPACETIME

JUST AN ALIEN (TURNING TOWARD IT)

TURNING PAGES

OVER ASIA

CROSSING AGES

JUST AN ALIEN

OH WE JUST WANT TO GET HOME AGAIN

Those backgroundvocals really remind me of David Bowie, especially his contribution to Arcade Fire's Reflektor.

Me the whole time:

"This isn't a Coldplay song. This isn't a Coldplay video"

I love it!

This is ... different ! At least we can't say they're stuck to the same genre ... I'm sure it will grow in me, the instrumental is good and all the EP seems to be deeper, melodically and lirically speaking, than AHFOD !

Edit : Well it's definitely an awesome song. AND THOSE STRINGS AT THE END

This is far from what I expected, but that's why I like it so much. I expected, at the minimum, experimentation and a hybrid between Viva and MX. We pretty much got exactly that. It took me a few listens to really 'acquire' the sound, but that's what Eno does best. It makes me wish they go back to Eno for LP8, or just from now on until forever, because they mesh together better than they should. The response to the song reminds me a lot of Midnight, but in a much more positive light. Coldplay is taking 10 steps in the right direction with this EP. Love this band!

I actually like the song, it's growing on me quickly. Than saw the message at the end. [spoiler=Then realised the meaning behind the song and it being about fugees. I really really really hate it when music is going political, ]

i'm happy you can ignore the whole aspect of that song going about this subject when you just listen to it of the EP seperately without the video. It's fantastic to be charitable with the proceeds but i think it's negative to let the music get influenced by it. Again it's Coldplay so they don't care to much of what is the most "popular" option. But it kinda bugs me Coldplay took this step.

Wow! I wasn't expecting that. i'am happy I stayed up for longer and was able to hear this song

I'am surprised. In a good way. The calm start, and the all the instruments kick in. The backing vocals later in the song fit the song really well. I am really excited to hear how this would sound live. At 2.22 (in the youtube lyric video, and I LOVE IT) "Just an alien" line and Chris' vocals, really got the goosebumps and the emotional, a bit sad, ending just nails it.

Coldplay songs lately seem to come out just the right time. SJLT was an uplifting song when I was really stressed out and all I needed was to listen to my superheroes. Hypnotised, when I had fallen in love with this wonderful girl; AICTAIY was very fitting for that same time period. Miracles (Someone Special) when I was feeling very down, and now A L I E N S. The lyrics. "Oh we want to just get home again" is how I have been feeling for a long time now. I feel so lost in life right now in all of my personal stuff, whatever I do, I feel myself as an outsider, like just an alien. It seems as if the band's music is really speaking to me, it seems really weird. When I listen to Coldplay's music, I feel like I'm at home at least for one moment. This is why I love them so much, they always seem to get it right

Yes! The song screams Eno and David Bowie. It's really unlike anything they've made before.

Wow I really liked that! Do you guys remember that little 10 second clip that is in some interview/documentary thing of an unreleased song people thought might be LiLD? That last part really sounds like a version of that melody! I will try to find that clip but ya that was an amazing song
