I think it comes from the name "Martin" which is a kind of bird... You know... "House Martin", "Sand Martin" etc...

 

There's also the phrase "a little birdie told me" but maybe I'm going to far to say that...

PD: In Charlie Brown, the lyrics say "in my scarecrow dreams", that implies the existence of crows right? Is that a reference too? LOL

Hymn for the Weekend: bird noises at the beginning, references to wings and being lifted up though this is also mostly a reference to angels.

 

Up in Flames: "So it's over, this time you're flying on..."
