Oh that's A LOT of 10's, hope the album will grow on me. So far for me Coloratura is the only one higher than maybe 6 or 7.

I don't like collabs, when I listen to Coldplay I sant to hear only Chris.

I might've been a little bit generous on some tracks because of how hyped I was for this to come out lol

Hi guys!!! Last Monday an Italian newspaper published a brief interview with violinist Davide Rossi. I'm Italian and live in Italy, so I promptly went to the newsagent's and bought the paper. In

My special edition CD came early...so it's just leaked inside my house 😀

The collabs are okay to me. I was surprised that even Selena Gomez is in this album. Just checked that out via the booklet(s) before playing my copies today.^^

I'm sorry to break the general positive climate towards the new LP, but after a first listen I have to say that it seems quite weak.

I see it with the defects of EL (too "experimental" and heterogeneous) and AHFOD (too pop and empty sound). It just gives me the impression that there is half an album left over.

I read many praising the song of the infinite sign, but what do they see? it is a monotonous synthesizer sound with people shouting in the background and very softly "olé olé" as if we were in a bullring or a football match. Musically what does that contribute?

I see that it is an album where the synthesizer, electronic sounds and effects and Chris's voice distortion are abused too much, while Johnny's guitar and Guy's bass are hard to hear on many songs, aren't they a band of 4? I am very sorry about this, before most songs had a really cool guitar solo from Jhony and meolidos guitar and bass that one could follow. Now nothing. all very "chunda chunda", very electronic .

The studio version of People of the Pride carries perhaps the best thing about this song: Chris's classic voice! In the live versions it was like traveling back to Viva la Vida, with the same intonation and tone as then, but the studio version loads all of that with distortions. Very disappointed to be honest, most of the songs don't sound like "coldplay" to me at all. I think this album and EL would have improved a lot if they had separated what are properly "songs" from "experiments". It is incredible, there is an "instrumental" track of clappes, but what the hell is this?

For me, Coloratura, People of the Pride, Humankind are saved and in a second level of demand High Power and Let Somebody Go (which I expected much worse), the rest seems to me, in general, VERY expendable.

I’m a big Coldplay fan (I’d say I’m a bit of a mix of a Newplayer and an Oldplayer-although I think their older stuff is much better overall) and this album really sort of disappointed me after a first listen. While many of the songs I enjoy listening to - none of them really come together to make a cohesive whole album. All the ideas and lyrics are so surface level and retreading everything we already heard in AHFOD. There’s just no nuance. And half of it is short instrumentals!! I’m totally okay with the instrumentals, many of them are beautiful, but at the end of the day I think we can all agree we would favor more full length tracks! The album is already so short…

I’m still going to listen to it on repeat and eventually fall in love with it no matter what, but I’m left feeling empty unfortunately. Easily my second least favorite album of theirs behind AHFOD. Looking forward to their next album (if they are following the same pattern they have been doing - it will be something closer to EL than another Pop album)

highlights: Coloratura, Humankind, POTP, Biutyful

Exactly! Most of the album sounds like electronic music and not a band. Coloratura is what Coldplay can or should evolve to, it's what they do best as a BAND. I feel like this song and the concept is what they want to do, but then the desire to stay relevant took over. But I hope the rest of the album grows on me. Some songs are better than others, but still they don't sound anywhere near a Coldplay classic for me.

As for the already mixed (especially negative) critics of this album and the subtitle Volume 1 I guess this is just a puzzle (part one) of something bigger and we'll have to wait for the next volume(s), playing them back to back and then maybe the critics become more positive?^^

My final impressions after a few listens:

🪐 - A very solid intro to the whole album and HP

Higher Power - 8/10 - I know it's an unpopular opinion but I like the song, especially the 2nd half where it takes off, it's classic Coldplay to me

Humankind - 9/10 - An absolute banger, the last chorus when everything but the guitar stops and then explodes is brilliant - this will be amazing live

- Very atmospheric, like a short stroll through space

Let Somebody Go - 6/10 - strong beginning with nice lyrics, but the song gets boring and repetitive in a bad way. Explosive ending, but I would welcome the last chorus to have more / different lyrics to stand out from the rest of the song.

️ -6/10 - The studio version sounds fantastic, but it's not something I would listen to on repeat

People of the Pride - 8/10 - great production, not a huge fan of the muffled beginning though (live was better), the riff could get repetitive too but it just rocks and it's unusual for Coldplay. The second part when the beat comes in "it's just work, it's not easy..." all the way to the finish is amazing. Can't wait to see this one live.

Biutyful - 6/10 - I hate the chipmunk voice solo in the first half, it's way better when it harmonizes with Chris later. I think the song would be much better if it was only him singing though. The beat and the melody are so good, it's a shame.

🌎 - For an interlude or a transition this is awful, it's just so out of place and cuts abruptly

My Universe - 2/5 - My least favorite song not just from this album but one of the weakest from Coldplay overall imo. The outro sounds out of place too. The acoustic version is pretty good.

- 6/10 - I was so disappointed when I realized it's not the studio version of Life Is Beautiful, but an instrumental version... On its own it's a really good instrumental (but once again out of place), takes a little bit to pick up pace but the second half is magical. It does not go anywhere though, it screams to be followed by something massive, not another slow paced beginning in Coloratura. I strongly believe if the instrumental was followed by actual Life is Beautiful with lyrics, it would be a huge highlight of the album.

Coloratura - 10/10 - the ultimate Coldplay track, one of their best songs period.

I would give the whole album a 7/10 -  Coloratura is legendary, Higher Power, Humankind, and POTP are my other favorites because of their energy and from the rest I expected a little more so they're just... okay. The band sounds absolutely incredible throughout the whole thing.

The production is outstanding, everything is so crisp and balanced. Huge respect for Max Martin. I hope volume 2 comes soon (perhaps before the tour begins?)

Haven't listened the album but based on what you're mentioning, MOTS II/III would make more sense and maybe there will have the 'whole' thing... Just an idea.

Ok I haven't listened to the album in full so far, I've read all the previous opinions, which are extremely heterogeneous as usual, BUT I assume that the interlude 🌍 must be objectively weird as almost everyone agrees on this point.... so I'm curious to listen to it now

I will listen to the whole album tomorrow however

Just so you know, a lot of the leaks floating around are using the single versions of HP, MU and Coloratura, which don't have the proper transitions between tracks (which is why some people are saying the transition between MOTS2 and MU is so abrupt). The proper album versions flow more smoothly.

Edit: A way to tell whether you have the right versions: the album version of HP should start with some sound from MOTS before the "3 2 1" (the single version is just silent before the "3 2 1") and the album version of MU should have crowd noise during the intro.

I am not very interested about critics opinions, sometimes they seem to want to impose their idea of coldplay beyond the real quality of the music produced.

“Here is the part of the Coldplay review where we need to discuss Chris’ eternally frustrating words. To his credit, the singer has admitted he’s not a great lyricist”.

Wow! So original!

“And now the moment that all of you are waiting for: the lyrics”

Instead I’m much more interested in opinions on this forum, sincere, honest, both positive or negative.
My opinion is that this is an album that you may not like, but it works, it’s circular. Yes, probably many of you will not like it, but I feel that it seems to be consistent also in its dislike. In AHFOD, for example, I have the feeling of finding pop songs scattered here and there, while here I can consider all the album a real concept. About general quality a song like Coloratura is unrivaled compared to any song on that album. MOTS seems instead much closer to MX. I still remember the reaction of many of us (and myself for sure!) the news of Princess of China with a feat with Rihanna (Rihanna ???), or after  first listening of Para (paraparapara) dise. However, after many years, I believe that MX was an album with too many prejudices, that were partially overcome.
In conclusion, I’m quite satisfied about this album. Certanly it won't be the best in their catalog or the most inspired, but have an idea (good or wrong it be) and makes me appreciate even about worst part as a part of the whole. Just like us, poor Humankind!

I actually feel the transition between songs don't flow well for most.

And I'm listening to it on Spotify...

Hmm, that's strange. I downloaded a Dolby Atmos version of the album with the proper transitions but I couldn't find a correct stereo version. I wonder if it's correct on the CD?

I'll fetch my CD tomorrow in an electronics store however I'm very curious to listen to Coloratura; I've  purpously been avoiding that one to experience on my first playthrough.

Know its like 10 minutes or something so I hope it delivers a nice musical experience.

Ok

Higher Power - 6,5 ( for the ending)

Humankind - 8(Decent)

Let Somebody Go - 7 (Like the song, but not the drum machine etc.)

Human Heart - 7 (Beautiful song, but a bit boring?)

People Of The Pride 8,5 (Like it a lot actually)

Biutyful - 4 (If it was Chris normal voice throughout the song and real drums perhaps I'd double the rating)

My Universe - 5

Infinity sign - 6,5 (John Hopkins, but with annoying clap sounds)

Coloratura - 9,5

Won't rate the short ones.

Had to change it a bit, Humankind is actually very good.

Alright so since I missed the leaks, does the album stream at 12:00 local time or British time (I'm in Italy, so there's a 1 hour time difference between here and the UK). I'm so tired and I think I can hold out untill 12, but 1 is too much 🙂
