  1. Hi guys!!! Last Monday an Italian newspaper published a brief interview with violinist Davide Rossi. I'm Italian and live in Italy, so I promptly went to the newsagent's and bought the paper. In the article Rossi also discusses his collaboration with Coldplay and to the last question: "Beside 'Higher Power' and 'Coloratura', what can you tell us about the other songs from Coldplay's next album?", he replies: "The other songs have a vintage sound but they retain the group's characteristic essence. There'll be their typical positive perspective on life, that 'good vibration' which is fundam

  2. I don't even know what to say... I waited until 1AM my time for the premiere and listened to the song twice. I'm at my family's weekend house and this is my view right now (long exposure shot). I sat in a chair and just listened for 20 minutes while staring at the sky. I can't describe what an amazing experience this was. Last time I had a similar moment back when Everyday Life had its premiere live in Jordan at 5AM my time. What a ride. What a song. Thanks Coldplay.

  3. Agree with that^ However I do believe that Coldplay have become much bigger than their type of music warrants today. I mean they are a household name now and there are more casual fans of the band than ever before who know them only through their hits (Paradise, Viva, The Scientist, Yellow, ASFOS, SJLT). This imo skews their listener profile and so for them to carry these fans to their next album, they need to have Pop songs, ensure relevance by collaborations etc. So today, I don't understand Chris. Imo he's not being honest with himself. They say they don't care about chart perform

  5. Maybe if Jay starts wearing that shirt more often, I'll start calling it The Buckland Symbol and drawing it all over everything. Or the Buck Signal maybe? Legend has it, if you shine the Bucksignal during a clear night in Camden, Jonny will show up and play any song you ask him to. Sometimes he'll even sing Don't Panic if you're lucky. But he'll only do this if you scare off the sheep that follows him around, eating his hats and selling his guitars on eBay. Then, before he leaves, he'll tell you a cool fact about space as thanks. Jon will wave goodbye before getting a running start

  7. 10 minutes! I just want to reiterate that it is great to share the start of a new era here at Coldplaying! I feel grateful that many many years ago I became a fan of this band that has given us so much and will continue to do so!

  8. I hope not... As for the leak discussion, i honestly expect it to leak very soon because that's just how things are - CDs get shipped to retailers and stores and someone somewhere opens one and uploads the song. It's virtually impossible to stop a physical (not digital-only) release from a high enough profile artist from leaking beforehand nowadays. The label is very serious about it, but they were equally serious about the most highly anticipated album of 2005 not leaking beforehand, to the point where journalists were only allowed to listen and review at the label's headquarters

  12. My profile picture finally has paid off. I don't know y'all this is just too much to take right now. TLDR: My love for this song couldn't be more. I had accepted that Everyday Life might be one of the last moments this band would stay within my music taste, but I never expected this. It's absurdly incredible, it's everything that the band has worked to achieve and in many ways it feels like their singular magnum opus, so far. Longer winding reaction, just like the song:

  13. Have just signed up so I could give my response to Coloratura. First listen, wow, just left me speechless. Had to go back and listen again. 2nd listen loved it even more. Hearing so many different elements of coldplay across there career. Hearing bits of all my other favourite acts too, like Beatles, Radiohead, Queen, Pink Floyd, Bjork, Kraftwerk. Onto my forth listen now, this is one of the strongest songs they have ever made. A true masterpiece. Can’t wait for the rest of the album.

  14. Tbh I think I will love this new single and the new album even if it follows Higher Power direction. Right now charts are full of catchy songs and I like a bunch of them, I mean, they put you in a good mood and make you sing out loud. Being that the case why not enjoying those kind of songs but from my favorite band! Maybe it won't be a musical 'master piece' but for sure I will freaking enjoy singing it in the car! And I still have old Coldplay songs for those 'Oldplay' days 🀩

  15. Lmao people jumping at expectations that this is going to be AHFOD 2.0 where they sell out - that's not going to happen. Max Martin is likely a one-off producer for the hit single because he doesn't really do albums, just hits. This concept was in the works since 2009, the post-Viva era - guess which other album was in the works by then? Everyday Life. There's a chance that Jon Hopkins might be coming back, as well as Brian Eno. There's a chance that the talented Jacob Collier might be on it - if so, then we're in for a great album. Also, this is pretty inaccurate. The band creates wh

We will be calling at baseless speculation, taking minor details too seriously, looking into things more than needed, and disappointment, where the train will divide. The front 25 members will call at eagerly waiting for the album to release, taking a day off work, and posting about the album as soon as it's released. The rear 25 members will calm down, calmly wait for the album and perhaps put a reminder on their phones. Please make sure you a travelling in the correct part of the train. I don't know anything about music theory at all, but it's good to see the band getting recognition from actual Emmy-winning composers and other people of that nature. 20. Wow... just, wow. This is the Coldplay I fell in love with. 10 minutes of ethereal beauty. It's like what would happen if David Bowie's Life on Mars and Space Oddity are combined with Coldplay's Moving to Mars, Death And All His Friends, What If, Hypnotised, and Square One. Coloratura is a space rock ballad of the highest quality, one that touches the heart and takes you on a ride across deep space. Best album closer they've ever done. Maybe even one of the greatest Coldplay songs, period. I didn't expect anything like it on MOTS, even after Everyday Life was filled with some great experi

  22. Funny to see people compare Higher Power with songs like Birds or Hurts Like Heaven, because those songs are actually very different to be completely honest here. The only thing that this song does have in common is the rhythm maybe. It's around the same tempo as HLH (Birds is much faster). But there are no clear similarities. HP has a different feel to it. Birds is a fast (nearly semi-acoustic) song with a prominent role for the electric guitar. The very upbeat Hurts Like Heaven has got a lot of guitar(riffs) too but it's got a more electronic sound to it. While higher Power sounds like

  23. I love the way you think. You are an oldplayer at heart but also are accepting of the β€œpop/newplay” sounds. I have been a fan and member since 2004 and the Coldplay direction has been a rollercoaster ride. Once you learn to evolve with the band, you will enjoy anything our band puts out. We need songs to dance and sing to right now... and this new album will hopefully deliver πŸ™‚

  24. First off, Ive been on this forum since pre- X&Y release, but have been a lurker for the past couple album cycles and don't post much these days. But Ive followed the boys from the very beginning. So, its been a treat to say that Ive grown with them musically and in life. I always wished they'd had gone the full alternative/rock route, as their earlier stuff indicated that they would be pretty damn good at it! Look, I love Buckland's guitar, I think he's a subtle genius, and wish they would fully unleash him, i.e. One I Love(2003 Live). But Ive come to accept that they just aren't go

  25. HEAR ME OUT!!! Guys, I’ve been noticing a lot of disappointment and dissatisfaction from the snippet we got.. and while I understand where this comments come from, I think we have to give our guys the benefit of the doubt. First, we’ve only heard 15 seconds from a -at least- 3 minute song, and yeah, it’s pop, but pop β‰  bad necessarily. Second, I get the felling, as it has been proven many times before, that this single is going to be the poppiest the album gets, it’s a single for a reason, their most comercial sound to catch those casual listeners, and non fans. I also think this song is

We should all just disregard the first part... 29. I don’t want music that sounds like what they were doing 20 years ago. Coloratura came out this year, Everyday Life less than two years ago. I want stuff that sounds like what they’re capable of doing now, and they’re clearly capable of a lot better than the bulk of MOTS.

  30. Can we just agree that we need the boys to follow their hearts? I know the mainstream stuff is not up to everybody's taste, but just imagine how we simply wouldn't have this masterpiece if it wasn't for all the years of exploring new stuff ❀️

  31. I dont know what can be said that hasn't already been but For starters, this is the first time in a long time that I've cried hearing a song on first listen. It's just like. All of the frustration of knowing people know Coldplay for terrible songs like Magic, Hymn for the Weekend and to a lesser extent but still true Paradise and Something Just Like This. It might sound strange but this is like the ultimate reckoning for all of that generic pop music they've put out in recent years. Like many people have said, the first two things that came to mind were Pink Floyd and M

  33. "A melodic orbit in three parts" I wonder what that could mean... perhaps the album is divided into three groups of three or four songs, each.

  34. At this point I'm not sure what to think of the song tbh. I like some parts of it, like the intro and the Eastern Asian vibes and background chants - more of that influence on the album, please! But other parts were too generic for my liking. I don't get why everyone loves the bridge. The repetitive lyrics in the bridge ("You've got - a higher - yeah you've got" etc.) were the worst of the entire song. Then Jonny's guitar was missing in my opinion. SJLT was saved by Jonny's great riff for me, this song has none at all... The last part/outro was good but could have used some more power (no pun

  35. I'm really torn on what to think about Higher Power. On the one hand I'm irrationally excited like never before for this new era. The buildup and the space and codebreaking themes and colour schemes etc are amazing, and the possibility all this could be tied in with the song being played from the ISS or something...!! On the other hand, every rational consideration tells me that musically, this won't be something I like. The MX era is my least favourite era, it's the one album and era I have least been able to connect to. And everything points to HP being a massive pop single, produc

  36. I still think the album is Music of the Spheres and Higher Power is just the name of the first single. They might be doing something like Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall in 2011 and releasing a Higher Power EP with a few new songs before the full album is ready to go. But I doubt that's the case. This is a big teaser campaign and they usually only do this kind of thing when the first single of the upcoming album is about to drop.

  37. Twitter user @upwdbfly has a theory about the transmission in Portuguese and I think that's the one! Can't access the original tweet but they found that the transmission numbers sequence corresponds more or less to the Yellow ink color chart: So that transmission is definitely a reference to Yellow, I think. As per other transmissions that may be about Coldplay members/partners, this suggests that the references may not only be new songs but old ones as well!

Volume 2? "I mean... we've only released vol. 1 a few days ago" - well he didn't say no haha MOTS and Mylo Xyloto are connected, more to come soon Infinity Sign was based on Life is Beautiful, but the chants are from the Buenos Aires show. 39. Having listened a few times, I would bet that this is the album opener (and if not, it is preceded by a short track like Sunrise/Church). All about it screams that this is beginning something, setting up the atmosphere for the rest of the album. Now for the song, it feels so different to me. I can hear the HLH and Birds influences on it, yet it feels so different from those two. I think is the chorus and that small synth noise on the back giving it a 'space' feeling different from X&Y, and different from the colorful Mylo Xyloto and dreamy AHFOD. Like you're on a journey through

  41. Took these (sorry for the bad image quality, these are only printscreens) from the videos from O2 shootings. It seems that the symbols are not only those 5 that we knew until now. My guesses is that in fact it's like MX era where each symbol is associated to one track of the album. So I think we are faced here with 'Music of the Spheres' album, with 12 tracks! Thoughts on this?
