  1. Tbh I think I will love this new single and the new album even if it follows Higher Power direction. Right now charts are full of catchy songs and I like a bunch of them, I mean, they put you in a good mood and make you sing out loud. Being that the case why not enjoying those kind of songs but from my favorite band! Maybe it won't be a musical 'master piece' but for sure I will freaking enjoy singing it in the car! And I still have old Coldplay songs for those 'Oldplay' days 🀩

  2. Lmao people jumping at expectations that this is going to be AHFOD 2.0 where they sell out - that's not going to happen. Max Martin is likely a one-off producer for the hit single because he doesn't really do albums, just hits. This concept was in the works since 2009, the post-Viva era - guess which other album was in the works by then? Everyday Life. There's a chance that Jon Hopkins might be coming back, as well as Brian Eno. There's a chance that the talented Jacob Collier might be on it - if so, then we're in for a great album. Also, this is pretty inaccurate. The band creates wh

  3. I love the way you think. You are an oldplayer at heart but also are accepting of the β€œpop/newplay” sounds. I have been a fan and member since 2004 and the Coldplay direction has been a rollercoaster ride. Once you learn to evolve with the band, you will enjoy anything our band puts out. We need songs to dance and sing to right now... and this new album will hopefully deliver πŸ™‚

  4. That's three things this Early May! Higher Power release, BBC RADIO SHOW, American Idol on the 9th and the opening to Brit Awards May 11th! This a lot to take in.

  5. Well, with all these "what if" speculations Coldplayers also must be thinking: What if... I got it wrong And no poem or song Could put right what I got wrong πŸ€”

  6. Looks like if they were staring at an UFO about to abduct them.

  7. I agree with this, yet Birds is a BRILLIANT song whether you like it or not. IMO (one of) the best on AHFOD.

  8. I literally cannot get Higher Power out of my head, and that's just a 20 second snippet. This song is going to be absolutely huge.

  9. Probably not the most positive thing to post but I'm starting to feel this album won't be the one for me. It seems Coldplay has a pattern of being very poppy, then very artsy. One for them, the record label and all that, and then one for the band.. basically playing whatever they want. I like the artsy Coldplay. They got Max Martin to produce and that guy is responsible for just about every #1 hit in America but that's not really a good thing to me. In fact, one may argue that music here, at least in the top 50, has become very homogenized and all sounding very much similar to one another

  10. I think maybe they've peaked with that "old" style and perhaps they know it as well. Like how coud you possibly top songs like Fix You or even Viva La Vida? They have to try new things and I'm onboard πŸ˜ƒ
    7 points
  11. Yeah, that's definitely a pattern, and it seems like a lot of long term fans prefer the more artsy albums. I wouldn't necessarily call it one for the label, one for the band. Everyday life got hardly any promo and still sold quite well. Plus i'm pretty sure the band wouldn't release an album they didn't fully believe in themselves. With them being one of the biggest acts around they hold the cards rather than the label, I'm pretty sure any other label would be quick to sign them even if they decided to abandon the mainstream stuff. So I assume the band actually enjoy being more mainstream now

  13. Well, this is good reading while I'm having my coffee and listening to MX... β˜•

  14. A new clip with video of Chris Martin at Worthy Form was just posted to tiktok. It’s about 25 seconds long. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMe472fRJ/

  17. I'm absolutely fascinated by the confidence going into Higher Power. It seems the record label is really wanting to push big marketing on this. I know that the band has a lot of say over the creative ideas, like Alien Radio and ultimately the art and vibe of the music, but clearly Warner Music Group/Parlaphone probably help schedule and fund performances like American Idol, Glastonbury, BRIT Awards etc. Compared to EL this feels like a lot of money is behind it and that execs are confident Higher Power will be a huge smash. Of course as a fan, i get nervous because I know I'll probably l

  18. I hadn't even thought of the Chromatica comparison! Kind of a fun nod to Gaga if it becomes a bigger part of this era. I think the problem is that we know the album will likely be called "Music of the Spheres" not Kaotica. Ofc that won't stop people on Twitter from raging.
    5 points
  19. GMA didn't talk about it. Oh well. Least I found this new image from the American Idol episode.

  20. In other news... Anyone wake up to see how the Gaga fans are accusing Coldplay of plagiarism? Gotta say it was nice to wake up to a good laugh! Anyone remind them MX came out way before Chromatica? lol... Also, they're under the impression Kaotica is the name of the album copying "Chromatica" when actually it seems to be one of the "spheres" from MOTS

  22. This means they really want people to listen to HP... lots of promotion... and it means another thing: we’ll be getting so much Coldplay! πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œβ€οΈ

  24. So i already love the song despite only hearing that 25 second snippet....it's been stuck in my head. It's brilliant. I'm biased because I myself am an absolute fan of HLH and Birds so obviously this is another win for me I can't wait to hear the full song on Friday and I'm really rooting for it to take over the world If this one doesn't, then what would??????

  25. Unsurprisingly, that YouTube link was a fake. Just a segment of Legends.

  28. I mean... I could bet money that Gaga doesn't even know about this and Coldplay wouldn't be mad... More like I love it when a rabid fandom gets angry at another one that couldn't care less

  29. I'm very much out of the loop here but... are they saying it's plagiarism based on the fact that the two words ...rhyme? and both start with a K-sound? lmao

  30. This. As far as we're concerned the song could be much better than what we've heard. Perhaps it could be the next Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, which (in my opinion) is a very good thing, as that song gets pretty unstoppable by the end and gains a lot of (musical) momentum, if you will, almost like the ending of the 12" version of Temptation by New Order or the end of Station To Station by David Bowie.
    4 points
  31. I mostly agree. It's only a 15 second snippet, this song could be epic and we won't have any idea until Friday comes. Max Martin is likely the producer of this single and if an album follows then he likely has no involvement. They could easily treat us with some epic tracks, let's not jump to conclusions yet!

  37. I finally found the tiktok and reddit snippets and I've already got Higher Power stuck in my head. Yeah, I'm definitely gonna love this song. (after all, etiaw is one of my favorites <3) edit: i totally was wrong about the lyrics leaked onto Genius. i thought they were fake, but can you really blame me for thinking that? also great job on the new themes, mods. love it!

  38. I'm not the uploader nor the creator.. we'll have to see when the timer ceases and it launches Mini update: GMA covered Billy Eilish sexy photos for the music or entertainment segment so it's less likely we'll see them talking about Coldplay and American idol. I'll keep watch just to be sure.

  39. It's different from the 15 sec clip. Seems like this is the first chorus. And the lyrics from Genius is spot on as well (at least for the part on the clip): "I've got my hands up, shaking just to let you know [Chorus] That you've got a higher power Got me singing every second Dancing every hour..."

  40. I really want to see if they explored a bit more into the Moving to Mars, A L I E N S, AICTAIY direction on the upcoming album. Those have been the highpoints of Newplay for me. Btw, not sure if anyone has pointed it out before but this channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/breanchu/videos has been uploading some really good and rare bootlegs starting from the Parachutes era. Currently in the VLV era now.

  42. I'm just hoping there's some sort of resemblance to the X&Y sound in LP9. Moving To Mars is a great example of a non-Oldplay song that's like that. It reminds me of What If. But I also want something like Talk that manages to be a guitar-based anthem as big as something from MX but still has a space rock atmosphere to it. And something like White Shadows or Low that lets the individual band members shine without being hidden by layers of synths, but still has a space rock atmosphere (and real drums). I'm probably asking for too much, but I'm not giving up hope that there will be at le

  44. I think it's because of Max Martin's role in the song. We know he's still working because the photos he's shared on instagram hint at him working in the studio. I think it's just for this particular song.

  45. To be clear, this clip features Chris singing Higher Power, so be sure to avoid it if, like me, you're waiting for the full song to drop before listening... I heard a full second before I realised what was going on and quickly closed it down!

  46. I for one, like music over lyrics, vocals over lyrics, melody over lyrics. That's how I find a liking to a song.
