  1. The thing is, if they didn't release Coloratura the entire Internet's Anti-Coldplay agenda would be in full swing. "They haven't made anything good since Viva!" "BTS and Selena? No thanks!" "I want to see classic Coldplay, not stupid pop dance Coldplay" "Max Martin only does stupid pop songs!"

  2. Based on what I have heard so far (full songs and clips) I think that this album is going to be surprisingly good, Production and mixing seems constantly great and varied. And it seems like they have done album, where each song is going to distinctively stand out on its own. That's a great thing, this concept is strong, probably stronger than Mylo, but it's not quite achieving Mylo level overall. It's certainly better than AHFOD, but Mylo, Viva, A Rush of Blood, Parachutes and Everyday Life have more this raw songwriting quality. I kind of feel like MoTS is certainly lacking a bit this pure so

  3. I'm still kinda pressed over My Universe not going #1 in the UK but they made history in the US lol. Anyway, the song debuted at #9 on Japan with only two/three days of counting, if they manage to go #1 there it would be remarkable as well since it's really hard for a foreign act. Coldplay is arguably the last band stading in the mainstream music industry and are still able to put out top notch material like Coloratura after 23 years of career... This is just... insane. Do you guys ever thought about how we stan literal legends?

  4. this + we still have people of the pride to surprise casual listeners speaking of max martin, coldplay was probably one of his most challenging collabs, i assume he had a lot of fun

  5. I love your opinion and I feel you! Remember that the band is doing this not to become more popular or to top the charts - they are having a blast and genuinely enjoy this “pop sound”. They love performing these songs live as well - one can tell. Curious, have you been to a live show? The beauty about the live shows is that you get the old songs as well! There is no longer a specific “Coldplay” sound anymore. They have been around for 20 years which is mind boggling because I feel like time has flown by so fast.

  6. Another quick question: it is becoming clear that - with this new Album and for example its collaborations - Coldplay produces music with the intention of appealing to a ‘new’ generation of fans. Knowing that, it is much easier to ‘accept’ songs such as My Universe, or a collaboration with someone like Selina Gomez. It does leave me wondering though: why do they choose to incorporate so few elements that most people would argue are typical ‘Coldplay’ in their new songs, but then release a single song - Coloratura - which is like fully covered with Coldplay elements? My Universe

  7. Kind of sad they already released Coloratura. Imagine all the buzz we would have had listening to MotS for the very first time and this masterpiece coming on. I'm a bit upset with myself that i couldnt resist listening when they dropped it... Sometimes i felt like they really wanted to show us - " Hey, we're not only into pop music". And they're fckin right😎

  8. Coldplay will appear on the French music show Taratata next Monday - I'm not when it will be broadcast. You can still watch their previous appearance on the show, in 2011, here: https://mytaratata.com/artistes/coldplay/live For some unknown reason I've been subscribed to their mailing list to apply to be in the audience for years so when I got the email for this show I was like "lol why not apply, won't get in anyway" .......and I accidentally got selected wooops, so had to plan a last-minute trip to Paris which happens to be my favourite city in the world as well, how very un

  9. I already had my "oh no they're selling out" moment around MX in 2011. Ten years on and I'm just along for the ride. Coldplay are going to put out a pop album every second album, that's just the way it is now. They still release albums like Everyday Life and songs like Coloratura every now and then so I still think they're worth following. And for whatever it's worth, MOTS is shaping up to be a stronger album than AHFOD. Would I rather Coldplay continued in the direction of VLV? Of course, but I don't see much point in complaining about it now. Pop Coldplay is not my favourite Coldplay by any

  10. In the end of the day the only thing we can expect from Coldplay is the unexpected, that's the fun of it, and also the reason why they outlasted literally every other band that came after.

  11. Basically I agree with both of you because even though their "original sound" has obviously changed over time, some of their pop songs are still enjoyable. I'm far from appreciating everything that I they have put out after Viva, but when I occasionally listen to generic pop music, in many cases I prefer their pop sound to many other artists (even though I also fell in love with Coldplay listening to the first four albums, which are my favourite ones). Every now and then they still experiment with something new, so I don't really think they are exclusively stuck in pop music. I don't know

  12. I get what you're saying, and I agree in parts, but the thing is: we just need to accept that this is a new Coldplay. At least that's what I did. The band I fell in love was the old one, from the first 3 albums. I really wanted them to follow that route, but things change and it's really unfair to ask them to be the same thing they used to be. Do I think they are making some "lazy music" since MX? I do, it's pretty generic most of the time. I think they can be better than that. But it is what it is. They embraced the Pop formula and that's fine. I know it's hard and I used to be really d

  13. it's brilliant but so are Amsterdam, Death and All His Friends, and Coloratura. But that doesn't take away any of the quality - this is still a brilliant song, it just so happens that (almost) every Coldplay ending song is amazing. This is probably the song on MX that sounded the most similar to Viva - weird production techniques, Leonard Cohen lyrics, great ambience, and a weirder drum pattern.

  14. I see where you're coming from. To begin with, you're comparing it to MX which has to be both the most underrated album amongst the fans in general and on this site, specifically. My Universe has pretty generic and overall poor lyrics. Some of the bass and guitar is good but we know what they're going for. It's not something I hate like Magic or Hymn for the Weekend though, it's mostly inoffensive. Higher Power has its moments and is a pretty good song, actually. Shame about what they did to Jonny's guitar but they like doing that. Coloratura is ome of the best songs I've

  16. I like everything from that clip- the vocals, the piano, the lyrics are actually my favorite part. But why that beat? They always do this. Will is such a talented drummer. Who goes "You know what this needs to top it off? A generic drum machine (my assumption) in the back!"

  17. Quick question: am I wrong to assume that - given the fact that My Universe has not even passed the 50M streams on Spotify - this song is, just like Higher Power, not really well received by mainstream audiences, given the number of monthly listeners that Coldplay typically have on for example Spotify?

  19. I never would have guessed from Overtura that they had reused that VLV demo in People of the pride. I appreciate that they have worked on that old material. The song clicked with me almost immediately (I love the the lyrics in particular). Can't wait for the studio version now

  20. Apart from Coloratura, POTP is my favorite of the new songs. It reminds me of One I Love, GPASUYF, Major Minus, and Violet Hill in particular. The lyrics in particular are some of the coolest Chris has ever written... on par with the best of VLVODAAHF. Which makes sense, doesn't it? The Man Who Swears had some amazing lyrics and deserved to be revisited like this.

  21. No Change No, the EP and album versions of Major Minus are the same. Nonetheless, it would definitely be interesting to hear alternate versions of all the songs! As for Chris's voice in HLH, there's nothing done to his lead vocal to distort it. It's the backing vocal that goes along with the chorus that has effects on it that give it a more synthetic, robotic sort of a sound. If there's anything done to the lead vocal, it'll be layer of vocal takes to make it sound more powerful and rich. Oracle confirmed that auto-tuning is never used on Chris's voice, so that's not an option. Othe
