  1. At this point I'm very jealous of Taylor Swift fans who have had two new albums come out during lockdown along with a reworked album being released next month... so far we've had Flags to keep us going😢

  2. I want Jon Hopkins to contribute again. Midnight and The Escapist are amazing, as are the ambient remixes of MX songs that he contributed to Live 2012. Except this time, I want his contributions to be completely new. The Escapist and Midnight came from snippets of old Jon Hopkins compositions and the band just added to them.

  3. I've seen this Dua Lipa debate heat up and I wanted to put in my 'two cents'. Look at this photo. It's a design concept ordered by FirstGroup for the Great Western franchise. The photo is of the prototype Standard class seat design. It's a combination of blue, violet, teal and brown of all colours. Thank god First Great Western never used it... This image perfectly sums up collaborations in music. Multiple distinct styles (or colours in this anecdote) come together to make something awful. Very few collaborations actually work, like Under Pressure, as most end up being the 'bar

  4. Oh please no Dua Lipa on a Coldplay album. One of the most talentless and shallow pop sensations to emerge in my humble opinion (next to Ariana Grande). II'm not too keen about collabs in general, but Rihanna and Beyoncé were in a different league. I wouldn't mind someone like Brittany Howard either. I agree with what was said above about the collabs on EL being collabs done just right. If they have to do collabs, more of that type please and less of the ones with a current pop hype. (also sorry to all Dua fans, it's great that you see something in her and love her but I simply don't and

  5. And for the colabs discussion. I think that no matters who’s gonna be collaborating or not as long as the music is good.

  6. A collaboration I would love though is Brian Eno. Literally brought out the best in them during Viva and (somewhat) during MX and his fingerprints are all over some of their best songs outside the era (White Shadows, Aliens, Arabesque). Given his experience with ambience especially with works like An Ending (Ascent) I think he'd do wonders with MOTS. It's also worth noting that many of the clues and little snippets revolving around space and even the phrase "Music of the Spheres" from Matt McGinn's book point to an era sometime around 2009-2011, where they scrapped many album ideas and e

  7. Amen to that. With all the talk of Coldplay and colabs my mind rushed to this song. Dunno how many of you know it but I thought I'd share it just in case. I interpret it as a non-Pop song however that's just me. One of my favorite colab with Chris. "Gold in them Hills" https://youtu.be/85Kf9-hJ3yg

  8. doesn't matter if I'm new to this site because I've been a Coldplay fan since 2009. You're right, we'll just wait and see what happens, but to say he WILL return and that they ARE collaborating is nothing short of fantasy until we get substantial evidence.

  9. look just cause it's your opinion doesn't mean it should and will happen, okay? Tons of fans want Coldplay to return to their roots, work with Ken Nelson, or bring back Brian Eno but that doesn't necessarily mean it WILL happen just because its our opinion that it will.

  12. ^This. Taylor has been crushing it. I always liked her early albums and 1989 a lot but this past year she really became the most essential pop star. Both Folklore and Evermore are very, very good albums. Excited about the Jacob Collier news! It'd be cool if he featured... but I bet like with EL could be helping do mixing and production if the album is getting wrapped up. He also played the role of helping create "Angelina" from Cry Cry Cry, which Chris alluded to wanting to use again. I'm open to that... but also Cry Cry Cry is probably the first song I'd remove from EL since it tonally

  15. If I may try to break through the tension here -- I'd like both of those things 🙂 I love Dua Lipa and think she's a real star. Future Nostalgia was a terrific album that bleneded modern pop sounds, perfect pop hooks/singalong choruses, and fun throwback intsrumentation. I also think the albums Ken Nelson worked on had THE BEST sounding recordings in Coldplay's entire career. The instrumentation feels like it's right in your face, the guitars are punchy, and the atmosphere feels alive. Ken Nelson probably is not coming back but a Dua collab is possible. They did tour together way bac

  16. I think Dua Lipa is god awful, along with almost all of today’s top 40 acts. I sincerely hope she will be nowhere near a Coldplay record. It was bad enough Rihanna was involved in POC and the Chainsmokers collaboration 🤮

  17. God it sounds so haunting... I'd love a song starting like that, imagine listening to that intro and then the song kicks int, talking about an astronaut lost in space. :P

  19. I should probably mention Will since he’s the only member I haven’t talked about and recently Im starting to appreciate him more. He’s starting to grow on me and I’m starting to fall for him I think lol One of the things I like about him is how strong he is. I feel as if he went through a lot. I like how eloquent he is. He’s a good speaker. He seems very intelligent. He’s obviously very talented. Chris said he’s like the base of the statue of the band , and I can’t think of a better way to describe him and I love that quality about him(that I can’t quite put into words as well as Chri

  20. Man I forgot how intensely anti-mainstream pop this forum can be haha I'm an oldplayer and just wanna make it clear: I love Dua, Lil Nas X, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Beyonce, Rihanna, Ariana Grande. I think we're living in a moment where pop stars feel truly talented and interested in pushing bounderies again, and I listen to pop music quite regularly along with alternative music (metal, punk, hip-hop, indie). I say this not as a prescription for you all, but just as an unashamed proclamation that some folks can like Coldplay and other brands of music, and that's okay. But that said,

  21. Bruh just because it's your opinion doesn't mean that it's going to come true. Hence the word opinion. I don't get why you want me to stop because my opinion won't stop any collaborations. Obviously I'm not that powerful. Take note, you're also saying the word "will" - anything you say isn't certain to happen on the album, so it would be more helpful and less confusing to say "I think it will happen" not "will happen". Not trying to start an argument, just trying to prove my point.

  22. At the moment most of them aren't anywhere on Coldplaying's servers (or not accessible anyway, idk what's going on in the background), but they're certainly not lost forever! @stephen is in the process of reuploading stuff, but it will obviously take a while before everything's back. Lots of people have many GBs of Coldplay bootlegs on their harddrives though so if you're looking for something specific, just ask and someone might share a download link

  23. Ok my guess is the next album will tie together X&Y rock roots with Mylo Zyloto styles. Which would tie together their entire career about love and adventure and humanity and hope for the future 👽

  24. Anybody know the song being played at the very beginning of the clip? Sounds kind of like a bit of Poppyfields but as far as I know it sounds different from anything they've ever made. I think it sounds pretty nice!

  27. I'm sorry but I just don't see it happening? Just because Future Nostalgia had a "space theme" and MOTS has a space "theme" doesn't mean that she's going to collaborate outright. If you ask me I'd put my money on the album having a Brian Eno influence based on all the evidence and clues I've seen.

  28. just my opinion but I don't think Dua Lipa or any other big collaborators will join them for MOTS - and I think it's for the better. Sometimes the collaborators can hinder a song's greatness or change the song entirely. What I'd love though is the type of collaborations on Viva or Everyday Life, where an expert in the field or a much less famous person contributes something meaningful to the band. Everyday Life had Jacob Collier contributing his signature layered vocals and production on Church, Cry Cry Cry, and Everyday Life, Norah Shaqur's beautiful and haunting voice on Church and Bani Adam

  29. Am I alone in thinking that this is one of Chris' best lyrics of all time? I think it's a cracking line!

  30. For sure they sound bland and dull for now but it's only one small portion of the song. I totally share your concern as lyrics can really bring down Coldplay songs sometimes. My only defense is that Will's door has allowed lyrics in the past decade like: "spiderman's control, and batman with his fists" and "how come cars don't slow" and "all i know, is that i love you so, so much that it hurts" and "could have been a princess, you'd be a king, could have had a castle, worn a ring but NOO Oo O O O oo "

  32. I came across this old video and it's the only place outside of Chris's notes in the MX pop-up book and one of Chris's guitars from 2020 where Rescue St. is mentioned. Unless the band has had a change of heart, I think it's safe to say that the a cappella bit in Rescue St. is gone. 😂 I'm very intrigued about what it sounds like. They start talking about a cappella music at 1:43 and Chris mentions Rescue St. And now I see where people are getting the idea that Rescue St. could actually show up on MOTS. Why would one of Chris's guitars have been labeled "Rescue St." if he was

  35. So as it stands Theory A is that LP9 is called Music Of The Spheres, and essentially is MYLOXYLOTO2 What we expect to be on LP9 includes: The Race - Space Pop-rock reminiscent of Lovers in Japan U.F.O 2 - Not acoustic and possibly has potential for being a single based on how prominent it was in the MYLOXYLOTO artwork. Us Against The World - Silver Bird Version And now..... Rescue St - An acoustic song (based on acoustic guitar with song name and comment about scrapped acapella) LP9 could also possibly contain.... Car Kids - Coldplay’s biggest secre

  36. So the exciting news on the Discord is that the track "Rescue St." is basically confirmed. It was originally on the tracklist for Mylo Xyloto but Chris said in an interview it had an acapella bridge that sounded like crap so they cut it. Contextually that conversation was about experimenting with Brian Eno, so always good to hear of more tracks that have his influence! BUT NOW -- we've seen in an official Coldplay social media post an acoustic guitar labeled "Rescue St." implying that Chris was recently working on the song. Personally, I'm excited to hear anything that originated d

  37. Haha guys, there's no need to say "this is gonna be like this or that", since we have a lot of time until the next album comes out and we don't know nothing about it but the mention of MOTS in the booklet. We have theories, yes, but they're just theories in the end. Also, imma laugh out loud when MOTS comes out and it ends up being poppy as AHFOD XD

  38. I don't know if I really agree with the whole "rock is dead" ethos so many artists carry now. Chris has said that he feels everything's already been tried in rock, which still I don't think is true. Yes, rock is maybe "dead" in the sense it no longer charts on the Top 40, but as a rock listener there are still plenty of amazing, innovative bands out there right now. Also, importantly, you're seeing a resurgence of artists using old rock styles in pop music now. The 1975's new record is great and has some interesting rock-inspired tracks. Then there's Post Malone incorporating rock riffs

  39. Nah I don’t think so guys, I think Music Of The Spheres will be Modern Rock music like Nickelback, Linkin Park, and Shinedown for the first time, and yes space rock too from X&Y, and Post-britpop from Parachutes, AROBTTH, and EL. And Music of the Spheres will still be doing old roots again this year especially modern rock, and this album will 5 vibes in it Parachutes, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, and EL. Just let me know about what you think about my post. Peace🌙☀️🚀🪐🛸

  40. I'm with ya @I ran away... I think we're SOL for a while on the new music front tho I hope I'm wrong. On the TiT Video: Really it could be anything as you said. Could have been an easter egg for the production crew or for the director. If Coldplay tweeted out a screenshot or a clip of the music video that says "look carefully" then maybe I'd believe it. For the playlists -- Yes many times in the past we've predicted a playlist on spotify is some indication of new music coming but that hasn't panned out. However, I do think these playlists are useful to see what the band members are

  41. It could be an interesting mix, since we will most likely also hear more of that high-pitched Angelina voice. Retro space vibes maybe, as someone already suggested based on that MOTS billboard. Generally I would welcome it if Coldplay were to look at the 60s for inspiration. The 60s were imho the best decade in music (before the best band of all time came along in 2000, of course ;))

  42. ^I'd hope so! If you look at the ASCAP Repertoire, there are two U.F.O.'s registered. Also -- wanted to toot my own horn and back up my prediction once more. Both Guy and Jonny have now released spotify playlists that are HEAVILY fileld with soul and retro 60's music. I seriously think MOTS is gonna be soul music driven, even if there is a space theme. I know that sound crazy, but I just have a feeling.

  44. well, i don't really have a particular favorite member, because they are all equally important and equally Coldplay, but if you'll excuse me for a moment... *shuts off Chris mode* i am here to talk about William Champion (since no one else has yet :P). :will: Will, what can he do? really the question you should be asking is what CAN'T he do??? his name is WILL not WON'T and it shows. :will: "i don't know how to play drums but you guys need a drummer? OK!" and look at where we are now. dude is crazy on the drums. but that's not all - he plays piano, guitar, harmonica. all without ever ha

  45. My favorite member is Chris (with Jonny coming in second), because he is the one who wrote all those lyrics that resonate so well with me and are so comforting in the way they talk about the melancholy and the insecurities of life while always having this spark of hope somewhere. I feel that especially the young Chris must have had a truly beautiful mind (admittedly, I can relate less well to his mind nowadays, but of course i do like the love and kindness theme of more recent albums too); I can understand so well the way he sees the world in the earlier albums. He also arguably has the most b

  46. My favourite member is Chris. Obviously I love his way of singing, how he plays the piano (I used to play the piano and always wanted to play it like he does, but never had enough time for that lol) and the guitar... for me he's a brilliant artist, that's for sure. But apart from that, he transmits energy and enthusiasm in every single performance he does, and that's something wonderful. He loves what he does and make us love it in the same way. Not all the singers are capable of doing that, so I think his attitude is one of the main reasons of Coldplay success. Besides, he has an incredible w
