Coldplay have today announced the release of their highly-anticipated tenth album, Moon Music. The record will land in stores and on streaming services on October 4, 2024.

The album's first single, feelslikeimfallinginlove, will be released globally on Friday, June 21. The single can be presaved here. The band performed the song for the first time last night during their sold out stadium show at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna - see video here.

Moon Music, which was produced by Max Martin, is available to pre-order everywhere now, with a limited number of hand-signed editions available from the official Coldplay Store, at store.coldplay.com.

NEW FORMATS AND NEW SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS

In tandem with Coldplay’s ground-breaking sustainability measures on their current tour - which has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour - the band have gone to great lengths to make the physical release of Moon Music as sustainable as possible.

This will be the world's first album released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, with each copy made from 9 recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste. This will prevent the manufacture of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic, and provide an 85% reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions/kg compared to traditional 140g vinyl.

Additionally, the band have collaborated with long-time partners The Ocean Cleanup to create an additional format: the Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP. The rPET for this edition comprises 70% river plastic, intercepted by The Ocean Cleanup from the Rio Las Vacas, Guatemala, and prevented from reaching the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean. The CD editions of Moon Music will be the world’s first to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams. This will provide at least a 78% CO2/kg emission reduction, and avoid the manufacture of more than five metric tonnes of virgin plastic.

LIMITED FIRST EDITION RELEASE

In an effort to reduce waste, the first edition run of Moon Music (both EcoRecord LP and EcoCD) will be strictly limited and produced at a higher specification than any future editions. All First Edition EcoRecord LP products will be individually numbered.

Moon Music is available to pre-order now in four physical formats, all clearly marked as First Edition, with all EcoRecord rPET LP products individually numbered:

• Notebook Edition EcoCD
• Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP + EcoCD

The Notebook Edition (EcoCD and EcoRecord LP) comes as a casebound hardback book. The book is a faithful replica of Chris Martin’s original studio notebook, featuring 28 pages of unseen notes, lyrics and illustrations from the album’s writing and recording process. The Notebook Edition also includes additional voice notes and demos from the album’s recording sessions, providing a special insight into the music’s development.

Moon Music is Coldplay’s first album since 2021’s Music Of The Spheres, which spawned the US Number One single with BTS, My Universe, and was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Music Of The Spheres has already accumulated more than four billion streams.

Back when Everyday Life was released, the middle page of the album booklet contained a teaser for the band's next album 'Music of The Spheres' which had not yet been announced at the time. The image also showed a vintage car with the numberplate showing 'FFTF2024'.

Fans have long speculated over the last 5 years or so about the meaning of this. With today's announcement of Moon Music, we now know a bit more information!

Coldplay have today given an update on the sustainability initiatives that form a central part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, which began in March 2022 and has so far sold more than 9 million tickets.

The band, whose tour resumes in Athens, Greece on June 8, revealed that their current tour has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17, exceeding their original target of a 50% reduction. They also revealed that 7 million trees have already been planted, as part of the band’s commitment to plant a tree for every concert goer attending the tour.

The band’s efforts have been assessed and validated by Professor John E. Fernandez of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Environmental Solutions Initiative, who said: “Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry.”

All of the band’s data and environmental impact assessments from both the A Head Full Of Dreams Tour (2016/2017) and the first year of the Music Of The Spheres Tour were shared with the team and leadership at the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, who said:

"For some time now, Coldplay has been leading by example in taking seriously and acting on the various interrelated environmental and social challenges facing humanity; climate change, biodiversity loss, air and water pollution, environmental injustice and more.

With each subsequent year of their tour they demonstrate an evolving vision and expanded commitment to move the entire music industry toward true and humane sustainability and planetary resilience. From collecting unprecedented amounts of data to taking specific actions today based on rigorous analysis, Coldplay is modelling a trajectory toward a low carbon, biodiverse and equitable future.

I, Prof. John E. Fernández of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, have reviewed their latest efforts and endorse and congratulate Coldplay in their dedication to positive and meaningful actions and Hope Solutions in their comprehensive and meticulous analysis and recommendations.

This latest analysis of Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry. The data and the methods of analysis support the conclusion that substantial progress has been made to reduce emissions in touring."

Today, 26 August, marks exactly twenty years since Coldplay released their second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head. The multi Grammy-winning number one album has since sold over 17 million copies worldwide.

To mark the anniversary, the band have released an upgraded 4K version of the iconic Jamie Thraves-directed video for The Scientist, which has been restored and re-graded from the original 35mm film rushes.

The entire album - which featured the singles In My Place, The Scientist, Clocks and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - has also been newly mixed for Dolby Atmos. The Dolby Atmos version is available to listen now on Apple Music, Amazon and TIDAL.

Features a new version of the band's latest single with Selena Gomez and a Kid Cudi cover!

Coldplay have today released their first Spotify Singles recording. Side A of the two-track release is an intimate and stripped-down acoustic version of the band’s current single Let Somebody Go with Selena Gomez (who also features on the new recording). Side B is the band’s upbeat, synthy cover of Kid Cudi’s iconic 2008 hit Day ‘N’ Nite. Both songs were recorded at Henson Recording Studio, Los Angeles.

Chris Martin said: "I have always loved Selena’s voice and when Let Somebody Go arrived it felt like she was the only person to sing it with. I’m so happy she said yes. She is wonderful to work with and the kind of artist whose work sounds even better after you get to meet them.”

"Day 'N' Nite - I loved when it came out, and I still love love love it.” Martin continued, “This is the first time I think that we’ve really taken proper time to record a cover, because in my head I could hear a version of it quite different from the original, that hopefully just reinforces what a brilliant song it is. As NFT's have gained popularity, many have expressed their distaste towards them. However, it hasn't stopped celebrities from investing in these environmentally unfriendly 'Non-fungible tokens'.

Guy Berryman is among the latest in a slew of celebs that have received backlash for their purchase and Coldplay fans are not holding back.

While many are joking about being able to "right click and save" the NFT, others aren't as forgiving of Berryman's decision to dabble in the Ethereum blockchain.

Long-time Coldplay collaborator Brian Eno has expressed his scepticism towards cryptocurrency - NFT's in particular.

“NFTs seem to me just a way for artists to get a little piece of the action from global capitalism, our own cute little version of financialization,”  Eno tells 'Crypto Syllabus' “How sweet — now artists can become little capitalist assholes as well.”

According to carbon.fyi, it is estimated that Guy is responsible for approximately 354 kilograms of CO₂ emissions throughout his foray into NFT's. Berryman's latest purchase is estimated to have cost upwards of $200,000, leading fans to discover previous purchases through his profile on OpenSea.

Coldplay are currently gearing up for a massive world tour to accompany their ninth studio album 'Music of The Spheres'. With the announcement of the tour, the band pledged to make it as environmentally friendly as possible.

"We're very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we've spent the past two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible" Coldplay said in a tweet.

Guy's unnecessary carbon contributions not only encourage others to do the same but also completely goes against the band's mantra towards climate change.

“MY UNIVERSE” MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST HOT 100 #1 BY TWO CO-BILLED LEAD GROUPS

Coldplay have today earned their second Billboard Hot 100 #1, their first since 2008, with their hit new collaboration “My Universe” with BTS. The single makes history as the first Hot 100 #1 ever by two co-billed lead groups, in addition to topping the Digital Song Sales, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts.

“My Universe” has also shattered records internationally, achieving the biggest first week download number in the UK this year and debuting at #1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. The single also finished the week at #3 on the Official UK Charts and was the #1 most viewed song on YouTube last week with a total of 76.6 million combined views across uploads.
