Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, anyone? Or maybe Snow Patrol? Visitors to a snow-carving event in China can play a life-size ice piano.

But it does not need an icy maestro – the instrument can play automatically and has a repertoire of 30 songs. It has been made for the 20th International Snow Sculpture Art Expo at Sun Island Scenic Area in Harbin, north-east China.

Gwyneth Paltrow has credited her husband Chris Martin with helping her to rebuild her life after the death of her father Bruce Paltrow.

The actress was celebrating her 30th birthday on vacation in Italy with director Bruce when he suffered a heart attack, caused by complications from his battle with cancer. And she admits she was left heartbroken by her loss - until she met the Coldplay star.

She says, "I had to find the right person and I had to clear up a lot of personal stuff along the way. I was doing that in my own way, but having to deal with things in private. I did have therapy - just a limited amount, which helped clear my mind. I turned 30 and my father died three days later. My life did a 180-degree turn in all areas. It was horrible beyond description to lose my father. But, on one hand, I lost the most special person in my life - and on the other, I had never been happier."

Bruce Paltrow died in September 2002. The actress married Martin in December 2003.

Chris Martin, the sour-faced 'Spider from Coronation Street' lookalike who has been bothering our ears for many years as singer of Coldplay has been speaking to Q magazine, which sounds like a marriage made in dull muso heaven. Thrillingly, he revealed that he feels under pressure to create another hit album, so enlisted the services of a hypnotist to help with the recording process, though perhaps a songwriter or someone passing with a bag full of jolly tunes might have been a better bet.

It was always pretty obvious that he was under some sort of mind control, having named his children 'Apple' and 'Moses' and now we know for sure that it was an evil hypnotist who made him do such things. Anyway, evil or not, the hypnotist helped shape new album 'Prospekt' into the shimmering wave of beige that it is sure to be.

"We feel like we have so much to prove and so many ideas that we'd like to try - sometimes you need a hypnotist to give you the bravery to do it," said Chris sagely, propping his ego against a retaining wall for safety, "It was fun and interesting and we wrote some nice things as a result of it."

Nice things. I'll bet. Superb plan, though. Now all Chris needs is an army of hypnotists across the globe to convince all right thinking people to buy the melancholic dirge.

Gwyneth Paltrow shouldn't get her hopes up this Christmas - her husband Chris Martin is giving vacuum cleaners as gifts.

The multi-millionaire Coldplay frontman was spotted on London's Oxford Street buying three red Henry hoovers on Friday (21Dec07).

His bizarre last-minute purchases are said to be worth around $200 (£100) each. But he wouldn't reveal who they are for. He tells Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Some of them are gifts and one's for me. I love to do the housework. I don't really see the point of getting someone else to do all your day-to-day chores."

Shop assistants in New York prefer Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter Apple to her father Chris Martin - deeming her much more "polite".

The Coldplay rocker has been criticised for behaving rudely to store clerks on a recent shopping trip in New York while his three-year-old daughter was praised for her friendly attitude.

The pair were browsing in the Ink Pad boutique when the tot began talking animatedly to those around her.

A source tells the New York Post's PageSix.com, "She was so cute, speaking a mile a minute and telling the clerk that her dad was taking her to see the new 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' (movie)." However, Martin did not receive such a good review.

The source adds, "He (Martin) wasn't polite to the staff at all."

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have put a bad patch in their marriage behind them, it was claimed today.

The pair were repeatedly rumored to be close to breaking up. But pals say they have got over a rough period in the summer when the actress was filming new flick, Iron Man, in Los Angeles.

A crew member revealed: “Gwyneth wanted the entire family with her on-set, so Chris would bring [their children] Apple and Moses to her trailer with him almost every day.But Chris turned his wife’s dressing room into a gathering place to hang out with friends and smoke and invited the crew in for little parties. That drove her crazy, and there were fights.”

The couple had not been photographed together for several months, sparking further rumours of a rift. Paltrow had most recently been filming a cooking show with celebrity chef Mario Batali in Spain, while rocker Martin was said to have been working on his band, Coldplay’s latest album.

But this week the celebrity couple, who tied the knot in December 2003, were spotted happily sharing a meal at New York restaurant BLT Fish. “When Chris left the table, Gwyn ordered the meal for the two of them,” an onlooker said.

“They talked for hours - when a cake was brought to the table next to them, they even joined in singing ‘Happy Birthday.’”

Addressing the split speculation last month, spokesman Stephen Huvane said: “[These rumours are] absolutely not true. They have been completely together and barely separated.”

He told a US newspaper: “This stems from the fact that both Chris and Gwyneth make a deliberate effort not to be photographed together. She does not take him to any events where there will be press - or if she does, they enter separately. It is their policy not to put their relationship out there for public consumption.”

Paltrow, 35, and Martin, 30, have two children together, three-year-old daughter Apple, and son Moses, 19 months. Paltrow has been filming movie drama Two Lovers in New York with Joaquin Phoenix. Martin joined her in the city this week. The couple has a home there, and in the nearby Hamptons holiday resort.

Rap superstar Jay-Z is desperate to start a family with girlfriend Beyonce and it's all thanks to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

Martin, who married actress Gwyneth Paltrow in 2003, showed Jay-Z the benefits of married life while the odd couple was working together on a track for Jay-Z's album Kingdom Come. He says, "The guy's humble, and he has a lovely family. It's rare to meet such a genuinely good person... I don't go to people's houses and hang out, but I go to his house and hang out."

And spending time with Martin's family made Jay-Z realise he wanted marriage and children too. He adds, "Of course I want to have a family. Chris Martin has got a whole family. I'm like, `What am I doing?'"

Danish supermodel Helena Christensen, 39, has split from 29-year-old Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, but has wasted no time in finding herself yet another toy-boy lover, report the Daily Mail.

The statuesque Monsoon model [pictured], has been dating Interpol frontman Paul Banks, also 29, since splitting from Chris Martin's bandmate and I hear the new couple could hardly keep their hands off each other at a party in Monaco last week.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin still remain very much a couple despite their last joint public outing taking place over a year ago.

Concerns surrounding the couple's happiness have begun to surface after Paltrow, 35, has attended a string of events all on her tod. However a spokesperson now says it's a policy of the down-to-earth couple not to go out publicly together. Paltrow's publicist claims: 'As a policy, Gwyneth and Chris do not talk about each other in the media, nor do they attend public functions together.'

Their pact was reportedly made after the Coldplay frontman was caution by police after allegedly attacking a snapper outside a restaurant in 2004. They were last pictured in September 2006 at a party for rapper Jay-Z at London's Movida club.

The COLDPLAY frontman had been sporting a 1970s Afro that made him look worryingly like KEVIN GODLEY from 10CC. But as my picture of Chris in London shows, it’s curl over at last. He has changed his style for the winter and gone for a close crop.

Reports suggest his relationship to Gwyneth Paltrow is in trouble

For the second time this month, the tabloid press is latching onto a story that all may not be well with Chris Martin's relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Coldplay frontman and the Hollywood actress, who have two children together, are thought to have fallen out after plans to move to the U.S. fell through recently. According to the Daily Mail, Martin decided against moving his family back to Paltrow's home country, and at a recent fashion event, the actress appeared distant when asked about her husband.

A source commented: "It was like Gwyneth didn't want to talk about him. It was very strange," a source is quoted is saying following Paltrow's appearance at the Fashion Rocks event. "They haven't been out together for months."

The source adds, "Gwyneth has wanted to return to the States permanently for a long time but Chris has said no."

A spokesperson for the couple issued a short comment, saying, "Gwyneth and Chris as a policy do not talk about each other in the media, nor do they attend public functions together."

"They have not been apart all summer as you suggest and she does not want to move to America."

In what appears to be an increasingly common factor in the couple's four-year marriage, Gwyneth – who has been in the UK for the past fortnight – was left to attend the glittering showbusiness party without her husband and father of their two children.

When they asked her where the Coldplay singer was, she declined to comment and walked away. The week before, the 34-year-old Oscar-winner was at another party where one guest overheard her brush off questions about her husband. "It was like Gwyneth didn't want to talk about him," my source tells the Mail. "It was very strange. They haven't been out together for months."

While she has spent recent months in America completing Iron Man, her first movie since giving birth to her son Moses in April 2006, Chris has been working on Coldplay's new album in London. "He's been working hard in the UK," a source said. "But he insists everything is OK with him and Gwyneth."

The actress has told friends she is keen to spend more time in America, where she has just finished refurbishing the family's new home in the Hamptons. "Gwyneth has wanted to return to the States permanently for a long time but Chris has said no," the source continues.

Gwyneth Paltrow has shied away from the spotlight in recent years, but when she stepped out last night wearing a tiny mini skirt she was right back in the centre of attention.

The actress visited the exclusive Aspinall's Casino in London's West End, where good pal, Courtney Love, was in attendance, as was the heiress Jemima Khan and her brother Ben Goldsmith. Wearing a little black dress, which did a good job of showing off her long legs, there was little danger of Love stepping on her outfit and tearing it, as she did a few weeks back to Kate Moss's Dior number at the Victoria and Albert museum.

Earlier in the evening, the willowy New Yorker, 35, met up with best friend Stella McCartney and her father Sir Paul at a gallery launch. Paltrow was on hand to offer some morale support to the former Beatle who had spent an unsuccessful eight hours yesterday trying to hammer out a divorce deal with Heather Mills.

The McCartney clan were out in force for the exhibition of Stella's husband Alasdhair Willis - Stella's brother James and older sister Mary also turned up. In contrast to the majority of celebrities who look worse-for-wear after a night on the tiles, Paltrow, who favours a macrobiotic diet and yoga, managed to remain epitome of high class chic throughout.

Since marrying Coldplay singer Chris Martin in 2003 and becoming a mother to Apple and Moses, Paltrow has shunned the spotlight, only occasionally turning up at film festivals. Gwyneth famously complained about London's bad weather and dirty streets, although last night it seemed she was the self-appointed head girl of the capital's high society.

The first thing actress Gwyneth Paltrow bought for her shingle-style Amagansett house was a $37,500 Boontje Blossum chandelier, but her "major splurge" was on a yoga and pilates studio that she uses every day.

That's according to the latest issue of Us Weekly, in a sneak peek of a spread in the Oct. 9 issue of House & Garden magazine.

Paltrow and husband, Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, bought the unfinished home for $5.4 million in 2006. First, they added bedrooms to accommodate their "big families," which includes children Apple, 3, and Moses, 18 months, mother, actress Blythe Danner, and brother, director Jake Paltrow.

The house is 7,000 square feet and two miles from the ocean.

Paltrow, who says she was hands-on in decorating the house, is quoted as saying that she doesn't want things too "fussy" or "decorated."

"I don't want the kids to feel there's any place they can't go," she says. "I want them to feel like it's their house."

The Us spread includes photos from the upcoming House & Garden of Paltrow's kitchen, with its Michael Minkoff cabinets, master bedroom, with its calfskin bed, and dining room, with that chandelier and plates from the budget store CB2.

First Heath and Michelle, now Gwyneth and Chris Martin? OK! Magazine is reporting that the couple - who wed in December '03 and now have two children - may be headed for a break-up.

Aside from the fact that the two are never seen in public together and spend months apart in different locations, witnesses say that Gwyneth rarely mentions her husband, and when she does she sounds "vague and unenthusiastic." Instead, the actress tends to "change the topic to her kids, Apple and Moses." Trouble in the air or just keeping her public and private life separate?

Or maybe Gwyneth's heart still belongs to a certain A-list Hollywood actor? Guess we'll never know!
