10 years anniversary X&Y on 6th June - #X10Y.

During the impending 2005 release of Coldplay's third album, 'X&Y', the world's media were delivering their verdict on the record. 'X&Y' received countless amounts of praise from the likes of Q (5/5), NME (9/10) and Spin (B+). One of the most popular music sites, Pitchfork had other ideas though, when they reviewed the rocking album less than favorably, with a 4.9/10 score.

Fast forward 10 years and X&Y's appeal at Pitchfork has grown stronger with time. So much infact, that they've launched a stirring defence for the band, against the criticisms the British band faced.

Here's an extract from the new article:

Today, X&Y isn’t the landmark OK Computer or Achtung Baby is. But it has all the makings of a Breakthrough Record, an Important Record, a Statement. "Talk" interpolates Kraftwerk’s "Computer Love". There's fingerprints of inspiration from venerated artists like Brian Eno (who would go on to produce the band’s later efforts), Jeff Buckley ("A Message", "Swallowed in the Sea"), Kate Bush ("Speed of Sound") and David Bowie ("Low") throughout. On the hidden track "Til Kingdom Come" resides the spirit of Johnny Cash. The song was intended as a duet with Cash, who died before its recording.

Strip it of all associated proper nouns and bold-faced names, X&Y stands on its own as a great record—even by critical consensus. Its reception 10 years ago was generally favorable. Even Robert Christgau—the Dean of American Rock Criticsdeemed it his Dud of the Month for September 2005—had to give credit where credit was due, giving X&Y a B grade, calling it "the craftiest of their well-crafted albums.

During the Myloxylotour, Coldplay were planning to visit South America but cancelled 'due to circumstances beyond their control'.

The statement from Coldplay in February 2013:

Dear friends in Latin America, We're sad to say that, due to circumstances beyond our control, we're unable to reschedule the postponed 'Mylo Xyloto' tour dates in 2013. Thank you for your incredible patience and support.

Coldplay have made a huge variety of songs, which go to suit different moods, such as the uplifting 'A Sky Full Of Stars' from their most recent album or the chilled out 'Sparks', from their debut record. We turn our attention to the more somber side of the band and nestle through those ballads and the dark side of Coldplay's lyrics.

Lyrics from 'Fix You'

In an ongoing discussion on the Coldplaying messageboards,'Prospekts March' was one of the first songs to be references, with the lyrics: "I don't wanna die on my own here tonight, But here I lie on my own in a separate sky", while 'What If' broadcasts the darker side of third album, 'X&Y': "What if you should decide, That you don't want me there by your side, That you don't want me there in your life"

10 Years of X&Y (#x10Y) - Coldplay were riding high on the popularity surrounding Speed Of Sound's release at the end of May 2005 but not for the first time in their career, their (UK) chart ambitions were halted by a one hit wonder.
The British rockers, Muse have revealed their latest single from their upcoming album, 'Drones', which is due for release on 8th June. 'Mercy' is the newest song to be showcased from said album. Frontman, Matt Bellamy, explained the meaning of 'Mercy' on muse.mu

The opening line of ‘Mercy' - Help me I’ve fallen on the inside - is a reference to the protagonist knowing and recognizing that they have lost something, they have lost themselves. This is where they realize they’re being overcome by the dark forces that were introduced in ‘Psycho.

10 years of X&Y - #X10YIt's classic interview time. 10 years ago, Coldplay will in the spotlight like never before. Gossip papers were all over Chris Martin's relationship with his new partner, Gwyneth Paltrow and the band's musical comeback for third album, 'X&Y' was a behemoth of an event, as their popularity scaled to new heights over in the states. Amongst this, Guy revealed previous feelings of envy towards the Coldplay frontman. Their thoughts are very different nowadays so to read the thoughts of the band below, at this time, makes for some very interesting reading:------------CHris Martin's bandmates get jealous of all the attention he receives - until they see all the negative implications of being in the limelight.

Chris became a prime target for paparazzi photographers and tabloid gossip columns when he embarked on a high profile relationship with Hollywood leading lady Gwyneth Paltrow. Guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion are annoyed by the assumption that Martin is the band's sole creative force, but they remain content to hog the background behind their singer.

Jonny says, "It doesn't worry me that people think we don't do much, because I know we all work on everything together. I worry for the amount Chris is hassled by the paparazzi. We can go up to paps and push them away."

Will remains realistic about his role and he relishes detaching himself from the pressures of being in one of the world's biggest bands. He continues, "It would be foolish of me to pretend that I was the band's driving force. Chris is single-minded, he's focused 24 hours a day. I've got a short attention span and want to switch off when I get home. Part of me wants to remain hidden - but that puts a lot of pressure on Chris."

Guy admits to experiencing some envious feelings towards Martin: "At first, when Chris got all the attention, I was jealous, but when you realise how much hassle it is, the appeal wears off. We've got to make an effort to present ourselves as four this time."

[X10Y] Coachella Music Festival & KCRW FM Galleries

Warning sign - you are now in April 2005, at the start of the X&Y era, when Coldplay's 1st single, Speed Of Sound had just debuted on the radio and the band were on a run of secret shows in the UK's captial.

Chris Martin risked serious injury on stage in London – in an attempt to give a hug to Noel Gallagher.

The band played a secret show at the Round Chapel in Hackney, East London, which was being recorded for a future broadcast on MTV in June.

During 'In My Place' Martin spotted Gallagher on the balcony. He climbed up onto the main speaker stack and then pulled himself onto the balcony. Once up there he found Noel and gave him a massive hug.

However, Martin then found himself stranded on the balcony, fifteen feet from where the rest of the band were attempting to continue the song without him. After standing on the edge, Martin then jumped back onto the stage below. Earlier in the night Chris Martin had covered 'Lyla' as a tribute to his hero.

The show was the band's only confirmed UK date prior to their headline appearance at this summer’s Glastonbury festival.

Warning sign - you are about to go back to 10 years ago, shortly after Speed Of Sound received its debut play on BBC Radio 1. Radio stations immediately warned to Coldplay's 1st single from their upcoming 3rd album, X&Y. Speed of Sound drew comparisons to the style of their GRAMMY winning single, 'Clocks'.

Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland from Coldplay came into Radio 1 to give Steve Lamacq the first play of their single.

The guys seemed very embarrassed about the compliments from listeners after the single was played and joked they wanted to remix it again. They admit they’re very shy about talking about their new album ‘X&Y’ but Chris talked about how they’ve turned up Jonny’s guitars to show off what a great musician he is.

Despite the nerves about the album they can’t wait to head off on tour and play Glastonbury and are loving life at the moment.

“We’re living our dream lives, we’re entertained all the time. I spoke to Noel Gallagher from the band Oasis. When you speak to someone who was around when you were 14 and now they’re speaking to you as contemporaries, you have to hit yourself on the head and remind yourself that your dreams have come true. It’s amazing. We’re still excited about it. Every part of what we do is exciting and incredible.”

As well as releasing a new album, the band are also heading off on tour soon. They chose their own support bands for the dates – Interpol is one of them – Chris explained why:

They’re disarmingly handsome, and what we thought we needed to open for Coldplay was a disarmingly handsome band. The Strokes weren’t available and nor were Kings of Leon or Girls Aloud, so Interpol it was

'Speed Of Sound' has been compared to Coldplay's third single from previous album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head. We have a new forum poll for you. 10 years of X&Y (Hashtag: #X10Y)

Warning sign - you are about to be transported back to April 2005, where Coldplay had just performed a series of secret shows, in Spain, Germany and The Netherlands. Coldplay's second appearence at Glastonbury had also been confirmed. The band were back and doing what they do best. Four talented guys in one arena, performing their songs, in front of ecstatic fans!

Since they released the details of their third album, titled 'X&Y' over a month ago, Coldplay have been gearing up for the public eye. Before the publicity explodes, the British foursome have been delighting fans across the world with spur of the moment gigs! Amsterdam, Cologne and Madrid were venues to a few low key but majestic displays from the band. Unfortunately, we don't have much info, being a secret show and all but we were treated to many glorious snaps, mostly from the Cologne show. Here is the setlist Coldplay performed at all three secret shows:

Owen on the Coldplaying forums described their first secret show, in The Netherlands and gave us a further glimpse of the new Coldplay tracks:

X&Y features Chris on piano. Very melodic. Beautiful piano outro.

Features the lyrics: “You and me surfing on tidal waves, you and me floating in outer space” (… or something like that). Low is the loudest guitar track since Yellow. Guaranteed favourite for the new album, and possible single if you ask me. Til Kingdom Comes is lovely Chris/Jonny track. Is fully acoustic, much like ‘Green Eyes’. Lovely evening. Magical. P.s. They completely fucked up ‘Amsterdam’

Wandering what all the fuss is about with the Cyan coloured backgrounds on Facebook/Twitter? It was all part of the (re)launch for Jay-Z's new streaming service, 'Tidal Hifi'. The new alternative to popular services, such as Spotify wanted to introduce itself with a bang and that certainly happened, with a huge gathering of celebrities, including Coldplay's Chris Martin (via Satellite), Jack White and Kanye West.

To start us off, here are clips of Chris Martin featuring in the pre-launch advert and via satellite at the live event! (Thank you atlas2000)

A massive media storm has been created by the wave of celebrities singing up to 'Tidal', rivaling Apple's upcoming streaming service. The reason why they were all so eager to join in? Aside from Chris Martin and other celebs being good friends with rapper, Jay-Z, they all own a share in 'Tidal', making them co-owners of the company! The original launch happened 6 months ago but it was under-stated and Jay-Z will be hoping for bigger things this time round. 'Tidal Hifi' has announced itself as the first artist owned platform for music and video but will it change the music industry and make a lasting impact?

Before we tell you more about the services of 'Tidal Hifi', the clash of interests between Apple and all of the artists involved in Jay-Z's new streaming service may potentially cause a divide between bands/artists. Coldplay, in particular have always had friendly ties with Apple and have seen their friends, U2 and Zane Lowe both sign up with Apple recently. Chris Martin and co have always, in recent times being happy to cross divides and showcase their music across all platforms. There are even rumours of the band signing up to Apple, in the same way U2 have, after their current record deal expires following the release of their next album, A Head Full Of Dreams. It's also worth knowing of Jay-Z's co-venture offer for Apple. The rapper's intentions were not to rival Apple but after the collaboration offer was declined by the corporation's Jimmy Lovine, the two streaming services, the re-designed by Apple 'Beats Music' and 'Tidal Hifi' will go head-to-head rather than side-by-side.

Streaming is increasingly popular, particularly among fans who listen to music on their mobile devices. But what benefits will you get with Tidal's new service? It's major punch is the lossless audio, rather than the standard 320kbps. Coldplay's latest three albums, from Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, through to Ghost Stories will sound very impressive indeed, seeing as they cranked up the production and sound layers in their music, since Brian Eno's arrival to the band's studios in 2008. 'Tidal' can also boast about their very neat presentation and the 'exclusives' the service has promised to offer. Their are two pricing options, at $10 for the standard quality service or $20 for their 'lossless' high quality audio streaming.

Artists/bands, who are available to stream on 'Tidal' will receive a larger % of profits compared to every other streaming service. Jay-Z and co do not possess a large degree of control over the music industry (Yet anyway), as record labels will still have the final say. With a long term strategy though, artists/bands such as Coldplay could be poached from their record labels, after their contract finishes.

'Tidal' has some questionable points too. Their $20 price package in the U.S. is £20 in the UK. You don't have to have an economics degree to work out that the price doesn't fairly translate! The $20 price alone has also begged the question, is double the price worth that increase in audio quality? And, are more exclusives from a different service really what the music industry needs? Music fans end up being excluded and are either forced to pay for it all, tie their loyalties to one service or search for alternative means.

What do you think of Tidal's new streaming service? Let us know on our popular forum thread for the launch. The (re)launch itself has gone down a treat on our forums but fans are generally skeptical on the service itself:

By Black Rose:

Another streaming service, more albums tied up to just one provider on "exclusively" deals. More illegal downloading of said albums by consumers unwilling to pay for 3/4 different services in order to listen to albums.

I wonder what "Tidal"s unique selling point will be over the competition to give it an edge, apart from "exclusive" deals?

Nev72 wrote...

Really don't think they've thought this Tidal thing properly. Here are a few problems I've come up with:

1. Why would people part with $20 a month ($240 a year) for the most expensive service of its kind which is run by a group with a combined wealth running into multiple billions of dollars whilst their main rival Spotify charges half of that? From the outside looking in, it looks like these artists are getting greedy.

2. Why are they short-changing the UK market? They're charging £20 a month in the UK which is the equivalent of $29.50. In other words, this service costs nearly 50% more than it does in America! A yearly subscription therefore costs £240/$355 a year, which is a huge amount of money! Spotify does exactly the same thing as well which I don't get. It doesn't cost any extra to provide the same service in the UK, so why charge significantly more!!!

3. Does the USP of hi-quality music really warrant £10/$10 extra? Not really.

4. I looked at most of the 'owners'' Spotify profiles and all of the ones I looked at had their entire music catalogue on there. You would have at least expected them to take their music off Spotify wouldn't you? Especially Jay-Z.

So, in short, the combined wealth of the owners runs into multiple billions of dollars (IE. They are set for life, and they've set their children and their children, and almost certainly their children as well, up for life so they don't really need any more money), they are charging double the price of their main rivals, where I can still get all of the owners' music, the only USP over Spotify is a higher quality sound and they are also short-changing UK consumers (and probably consumers in many other countries)

Sorry Chris, but just because you're endorsing this, it doesn't mean that I'm going to buy it.

There is still the standard $10/£10 version, but given that this is exactly the same as Spotify, it's going to be tough for them to get subscriptions, even with the superstar endorsements.

Warning Sign - You are about to travel back 10 years, to 2005. Get in the DeLorean, quick!

Chris Martin has been talking about the mysterious reasons behind the name of Coldplay’s upcoming new album ‘X&Y’ and how his band missed out on a huge money bonus from EMI for delivering it late.

Coldplay’s new album, the follow-up to 2002’s 16 million selling ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’, will be entitled ‘X&Y’ and will be released by Parlophone Records on June 6. Frontman Chris Martin has revealed where the record’s name came from.

“X and Y is the mathematical formula used when you don’t know the answer.

”

“But, it’s also like black and white, or hope and despair, or optimism and pessimism. Everywhere you look there’s a tension of opposites.”

He went on to reveal that the delay in the record’s release (due to the band not being entirely satisfied with the tracks included) not only caused a dip in their record company EMI’s share price, but also meant that the band themselves missed out on a hefty bonus.

“Deadlines be damned,” he explained, “It was all to do with fiscal years and shareholders anyway. Once we forgot about the money we were free to push ourselves to the very limits and make the best album possible.”

Chris Martin also confessed that he still often doubts his songwriting ability, something that caused problems when penning both ‘X&Y’ and its predecessor, which nearly spilt the band.

“I still spend at least 60 per cent of my time thinking ‘I can’t write songs.’” He explained, “I don’t see myself as brilliantly talented, but lucky to have met the right combination of people who fit together like a jigsaw so you can’t see our individual shortcomings.”

The delay of X&Y was also attributed to Chris' last minute attempt at adding the 'standout track of the album', much to the disliking of their record company:

The one benefit of time is that we’ve had a chance to wait for proper songs to land. The last song that’s on the album came out of a conversation I was having at home after we thought we’d finished. I explained that we were still missing that one song. I got really angry and aggressive and this song just came out in five minutes, and a week later it’s all done.

[X10Y] Tracklisting and previews for 'X&Y'

Official hashtag for 10 years of X&Y - #X10Y

Warning Sign - You are about to be taken back to 10 years ago, when British magazine, NME revealed the supposed tracklisting for Coldplay's third album, X&Y and gave us a written preview of each song!

Speculation over Coldplay’s forthcoming album has increased, with the emergence of a possible tracklisting.

Although the album ‘X&Y’ is due out on June 6 and singer Chris Martin has told NME.COM he’s still tinkering with the record, The Sun have revealed a possible eleven song tracklist for the album.

‘X&Y’ could include:

‘Square One’

‘What If’

‘White Shadows’

‘Fix You’

‘X&Y’

‘Speed Of Sound’

‘A Message’

‘Low’

‘Let’s Talk’

‘Swallowed In The Sea’

‘Twisted Logic’

As previously reported by NME.COM, the band made their live return on March 12 in Los Angeles, where songs, ‘Square One’, ‘White Shadows’, ‘A Message’ and ‘What If’ all received their live debuts.

Click more for individual track details >>

1. SQUARE ONE

Cert to open live shows. Heavy feel with lots of guitars and haunting

lyrics. Chris sings: “Is there anybody out there who is lost and lonely

too?”

2. WHAT IF

Best song on the album and one of the band’s best ever. Chris’s soft

voice and piano are in full force. When the anticipated guitar sound

kicks in, reminiscent of Yellow, the hair on my neck stood on end. A

Sergeant Pepper ending.

3. WHITE SHADOWS:

Gospel inspired with lots of organ and a very U2 sounding riff. Chris

was listening to reggae great Jimmy Cliff when he wrote this.

4. FIX YOU:

Church organ start reminded me of Procol Harum’s 1967 great A Whiter

Shade of Pale. Cello and strings lead to an epic end to the five minute

track.

5. X&Y:

Heavily influenced by Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and Strawberry

Fields from the Beatles. Starts with moving, soft vocals and strings.

6. SPEED OF SOUND:

The first single. The opening piano reminded me of Clocks. Drummer Will

shines and guitarist Jon adds riffs that Edge would be proud of. Very

catchy.

7. A MESSAGE:

Acoustic guitar and no doubt which Hollywood actress the songs’s

message is meant for. Lyrics include the line: “I’m nothing without you, I’m

nothing on my own.”

8. LOW:

Big, festival sound. Will be great live with Guy’s thumping bass and

loud mix of guitars, synth and drums. Massive ending makes it

spine-tingling.

9. LET’S TALK:

Opens with a melody borrowed from Kraftwerk, though Coldplay do it with

guitars, not synths. For me, this is one of the album’s highlights.

It’s got No1 single written all over it. Vocal reminded me of The Killers.

10. SWALLOWED IN THE SEA:

This could easily be a massive single with its haunting lyrics,

apparently about the loss of a loved one. Chris’s vocals are accompanied by a

cello before the rest of the band kick in for a rousing finish. A

touching, beautiful song.

11. TWISTED LOGIC:

A sample of Coldplay when they are angry. The lyrics are about what

might happen to the world in the future if we don’t look after our planet –

or the people that live on it.

[X10Y] The delay of 'X&Y' costs EMI over $500 million!

Warning sign - You are about to be transported back 10 years into the past! Coldplay have just announced their third album X&Y but all is not well with Coldplay and EMI's relationship.

Record company EMI have hit out at Coldplay and cartoon band, Gorillaz for a fall in sales. Both of their albums were due out in the fourth quarter of 2004 but have failed to materialize. EMI said full-year profits to 31 March fell 13% to £141.9m. According to British newspaper, The Telegraph, the delay of Coldplay's album will account for a tremendous loss of £320m to the music company (Approx $500m).

Chris Martin was having none of it though and furiously lashed out at EMI and the corporate group's shareholders:

Shareholders are the great evil of this modern world<

Coldplay were under intense scrutiny to get X&Y ready as soon as possible and it may still not be the finished article in their eyes. Only time will tell, as Coldplay's third album gets ready to hit the shelves!

Coldplay have always had a fondness for Los Angeles and choosing the City Of Angels in North America to kick off the X&Y era was a perfect base for their impending U.S. domination....

Warning sign – You are embarking on a trip, back to 10 years ago, when Coldplay performed their first gig of the X&Y era

During the 60 minute secret show in Troubadour, located in Los Angeles, the band played four new songs, including opener “Square One”, “White Shadows”, and piano ballad “What If”.

They also played a host of their biggest chart hits including “In My Place” and “Clocks”, ending with a crowd singalong of “Yellow”.

At the start of the gig the band looked nervous, but by second song “In My Place” all four members were grinning at each other and looked glad to be back.

Singer Chris Martin said:

Well, here we are once again. We can’t quite believe we’re back and playing a concert, and that some of you waited since about February

Martin was referring to the fact that although tickets for the gig were made available at 5pm from the venue on the day, the news leaked, meaning some fans were at the venue, waiting outside in the California sunshine from 8.30am to ensure their place.

The show comes as the band ease themselves into playing again after a recording break of about 18 months. Last week the group did an open rehearsal for 40 friends and fans, and are also planning a top secret club gig in the UK in June to precede their massive arena dates.

[X10Y] 10 years of X&Y - Coldplay announce new album and single

Over the coming year, Coldplaying.com will take you back to the magical X&Y era! The music, announcements, the leaks, live shows, astounding facts and figures....X&Y has it all. Our concert archive of photos will be updated over the course of the era to reveal the historic images, many which you will not find online anymore in 2015. Not to mention fan-made art and song edits, to give this a slight twist! You can relive the outstanding era and be part of the experience on the messageboards. We have a dedicated 10 years of X&Y forum. Any topics which have the [X10Y] tag, will be in that moment, as if it was happening right now! (Present tense). Any topics without the tag will be in past tense. Same goes for this main site too.

What's so special about today then? Today marks the beginning of the X&Y era, as Coldplay announced the details of their third album on March 11th 2005. The revelation had dispelled the rumours of Zero Theory being the album title, with track names such as Deja Vu and Echo My Name (I Can’t Believe You’re Gone) not appearing on the final cut

Coldplay’s massively anticipated new album will be entitled ‘X&Y’ and the first single to be released from it will be called ‘Speed Of Sound’.

Coldplay’s new album, the follow-up to 2002’s 16 million selling ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’, will be entitled ‘X&Y’ and will be released by Parlophone Records on June 6. The album will also be preceded by the new single, ‘Speed Of Sound’ on May 23.

‘X&Y’ was recorded over the past year at studios in the UK and has been produced by Danton Supple (Morrissey, Elbow), Ken Nelson (Badly Drawn Boy, Kings of Convenience) and the band themselves.

Easily the most album anticipated release of 2005, ‘X&Y’ sees Coldplay building on their previous achievements while resisting the temptation to repeat themselves.

“We wanted to try new things out, to move our sound along,” explained Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland,

But the focus remains on the songs, and Chris [Martin]’s voice is sounding amazing. Everyone is playing at the top of their game.

Zane Lowe has ruled the airwaves of British Radio for over a decade, now he will move on to a new role with Apple in the U.S, as he leaves BBC Radio 1, with his farewell show taking place last night. The New Zealand born DJ enjoys an understanding relationship with Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin. The reaction to the DJ's final bow on British radio was met with huge gratitude from a host of artists and bands, including - Kasabian, Adele, Big Sean and Jake Bugg. Coldplay were one of the first to pay tribute, as they praised "The hottest man in the world right now", in reference to his everlasting feature within his show, "The hottest record in the world right now", promoting an endless sea of new music and often giving new bands and returning artists a huge boost for their upcoming record. Coldplay's lead singer had once hosted Zane Lowe's show in January 2007, where he played a large range of tracks, such as REM's Me In Honey and Travis' Big Chair, in addition to introducing the single of a new band back then, Enter Shikari as his "hottest record in the world". A lot has changed on the music scene since Zane took the reigns on BBC Radio 1 (Morning, then Evening show) but the absolute Juggernaut of a DJ has stood the test of time!

Thank you for everything @zanelowe, the living antidote to cynicism, love j, g w, c #thankszane #hottestpersonintheworldrightnow
— Coldplay (@coldplay) March 5, 2015
Zane Lowe wasn't afraid to play tracks which would not normally fit in Radio 1's main playlist, as he marked his final show with Coldplay co-producer, Jon Hopkins and his track, Open Eye Signal, which played before Ghost Stories concerts started, last year. Looking back on to 2008 and he debuted Coldplay's A Spell A Rebel Yell, the Vinyl B-Side from their Violet Hill single, a track which wasn't expected to ever be heard on radio, given its obscure nature and non radio friendly sound.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJDGROuiKpQIn 2011, Coldplay were preparing for their fifth record, as they tell us, on Zane Lowe's show how the record is about “love, addiction, OCD, escape and working for someone you don’t like”. The legendary DJ had a special way with engaging with artists during his time with Radio 1 and Chris Martin stands out as one of them. Almost every time we've heard Zane interview any of the guys, we always find out something new and interesting! Chris gave us a clue that the then un-titled fifth album, Mylo Xyloto would be an uplifting affair:

[Fifth album] also has a lot of uplifting stuff. It’s supposed to be about life, the good stuff and the bad stuff. Everything.

In recent times, the pair's friendship has solidified further, with Chris Martin trusting Zane to conduct an intimate interview on last year's album, Ghost Stories, where he talked about his personal reasons for making the album. The interview ranks very high among the most in depth and interesting chats. The 1 hour, 9 minutes long interview had it all. Personal revelations, Chris' trademark sense of humour, stories of Chris and Jonny, Paradise originally being written as the X-Factor's winning song, until Chris showed drummer, Will Champion, who kept it for the band instead! This video will never get old and sums up everything brilliant about Zane Lowe's interviewing skills:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pF7bS_4JnE&t=240And we have this brilliant quote from that interview, summing up the idea behind Coldplay's sixth record, Ghost Stories:

The idea of “Ghost Stories” for me was how do you let the things that happened to you in the past, your ghosts, how do you let them affect your present and your future because there was a time when I was feeling they were going to drag me down, ruin my life and of those around me

That was not all. More recently, his presence and level of trust with Coldplay's frontman prompted the revelation of the next album title, A Head Full Of Dreams, much the annoyance of the rest of the band! He also compared the band's next effort to the final Harry Potter book / as a last in a series. Zane's future is unknown, as his role with Apple is currently undisclosed. If he takes up a similar role in North America, it may not the final time we see his joyous interviews with the band. Here's an ode to Zane - we wish him all the best with his new role!
