Sixty people have already agreed to pay out-of-court settlements averaging around £2,500 each, including a London jazz singer fined after her 19-year-old son shared 1,330 songs from the family computer.

But the unnamed five, from King's Lynn, Crawley, Port Talbot, Brighton and South Glamorgan, have refused to co-operate since the BPI first tracked them down in April.

Between them, they are said to have uploaded a total of 9,000 tracks on their computers, which were then made available for others to download.

'So far 60 UK internet users have settled legal claims against them for illegal file-sharing, paying up to £6,500 in compensation,' said BPI general counsel, Geoff Taylor.

'We have tried to agree fair settlements, but if people refuse to deal with the evidence against them, the law must take its course.' He added: 'We will be seeking an injunction and full damages for the losses they have caused, in addition-to the considerable legal costs we are incurring as a result of their illegal activity.'

Illegal downloads are said to have cost the British record industry £650m over the past two years - and a massive £1.3bn annually, worldwide.

Each person's illegal downloading of music is equivalent to the loss of 20 CDs to the UK industry. But the industry has achieved considerable success in recent months in clamping down. Last month the BPI revealed a 744% rise in the number of legal downloads on the past year, with more than 5.5m online tracks sold in the second quarter of this year.

'Music fans are increasingly tuning in to legal download sites for the choice, value and convenience they offer. But we cannot let illegal file-sharers off the hook,' said BPI chairman Peter Jamieson. 'They are undermining the legal services, they are damaging music and they are breaking the law.'

Last month the US supreme court found software firm Grokster liable for encouraging users to share pirated material over its network.

TOP 10 OFFICIAL UK DOWNLOADS

1 James Blunt - You're Beautiful

2 2Pac - Ghetto Gospel

3 Charlotte Church - Crazy Chick

4 Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone

5 Mariah Carey - We Belong Together

6 Inaya Day - Nasty Girl

7 Kanye West - Diamonds from Sierra Leone

8 Audio Bullys feat. blab to the press, it was reported today.

Interested buyers must sign a confidentiality agreement before setting foot in the property, stating they will not take pictures or talk to the media. But the move did not put off Jude Law and Sienna Miller who have already had a look around the luxurious home, according to Life & Style Weekly.

The four storey townhouse in Manhattan’s trendy Greenwich Village went on the market for £4.1 million (7.85m dollars) last month. The move sparked rumours that the Hollywood starlet had chosen to remain rooted in west London with her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, despite rumours of a rift.

The house features four bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, two planted gardens and several wood-burning fireplaces. Any connections to real-life events or people is purely non-coincidental and should be used soley for entertainment purposes.--- [thanks Anonymous!]

To: Coldplay

From: EMI Corporate Headquarters

Subject: EMI Fiscal Status and Coldplay

Ok boys, I'm sure you've heard the news of our financial situation. The blunt truth of the matter is that the success or failure of our record label rests squarely on your shoulders.

No pressure here. Just relax and take it easy. As long as you sell at least 500,000 units in the first week of sales and go platinum by the end of the month, you get to keep your jobs and collect the money reaped from your last three years of work in the studio. Otherwise, EMI goes belly up, and all the proceeds from the album will go towards appeasing our debtors.

And since we're on the topic of guessing at projected record sales, please make every effort to make certain that no portion of your upcoming album is leaked before the release date. I've heard that for every track that is leaked and hits the Internet, you lose 100,000 unit sales. You can do the math. I'll make this very clear. If any member of Coldplay leaks any song before the release date, it will be considered a breach of contract. They will be terminated from their contract immediately with no compensation.

Now, I do realize that you are in the very final stages of completing your album. And I also realize that you consider yourselves to be rather perfectionistic, your own toughest critics, et cetera, and that you've scrapped dozens of songs and held off on releasing the album up to this point. However, I'd ask that you take one final look at your album and make sure that there are no songs on there that could be perceived as offensive, boring, jaded, naive, or experimental. If there any songs on the new album that wouldn't make the Top 20 Billboard as a single, then I don't want to hear it on there. Let's not make any mistakes like last time, no more tracks like "A Whisper" or "Parachutes". If you want to try something weird or "artsy", save it for a B-Side sometime on one of your twelve upcoming radio singles.

So, take one final look at your album and make sure everything is up to par. Don't make any rash or hasty decisions. No use acting like we're living on borrowed time and blaming your failures on impulsive rushes of blood. It'd be better if there were no failures at all. Failures cost too much money. So, take a month... no... take two months and just make sure all the pieces are in place. She has started recording the names of photographers who follow her most regularly.

"In London, they chase you in cars, and I will start pressing charges because they're endangering me by the way they drive. It's really scary. It's just unacceptable, especially when there's a life of a small baby in your hands."Gwyneth Paltrow, 31, said her husband Chris Martin, the singer in the band Coldplay, is more "physically protective" of her, their child and their home. Last year Martin, 27, was accused of vandalising a photographer's car during an altercation in Australia, although police later dropped the charges, although there were rumours that this was because of his performance on the surfboard.

Paltrow said the paparazzi's fascination with her family's life had intensified following the birth of Apple. "It's really frustrating. I wish people would just let us get on with it once in a while and let us have a normal day together."

Her biggest fear is how Apple will react when she is old enough to understand that the family is under such scrutiny. "It worries me more when she's aware of what's going on," she said. "The idea of us leaving the house and there being paparazzi and her being startled by it or asking what it is and why they're there - I don't know what I'm going to say."

Source: The Telegraph

How's the dream home coming along?

Chris & Gwyneth recently bought Kate Winslet's old London pad.
