It wasn't to be Coldplay's night at this year's BRIT Awards, as British rock duo, Royal Blood surprisingly pipped their fellow countrymen to the award for 'Best Group'.

The Mylo Xyloto era of 3-4 years ago proved to be a fruitful time in Coldplay's rich BRIT Award's history. The often understated Ghost Stories album of 2014 has not received as much commercial acclaim as it's predecessor but the band will be hoping for bigger and better things when A Head Full Of Dreams, their upcoming seventh album makes a mark.

Coldplay remain the second most successful band/artist at the BRIT Awards. They are tied with boyband, Take That and singer, Annie Lennox with 8 awards, while ex-Take That man, Robbie Williams holds the all time record of 12 awards. Here's a breakdown of Coldplay's trophy haul at the BRITs:

Royal Blood's award win was certainly a surprise for many as One Direction were favourites to win. Their win has been received with a great deal of critical acclaim and it seems to have gone down well enough on the Coldplaying forums as a second choice winner after Coldplay! Our favourite band won the 'Best Group' award in 2001, as a relatively new band and now the rockers from Brighton have been given a major boost in their rising career. Royal Blood's debut album in 2014, self titled, went straight to #1 on the album charts. You can watch their performance of Figure It Out from last night:

In other news, Paul Epworth, who produced Coldplay's Ghost Stories won producer of the year. Foo Fighters, who are headlining Glastonbury (We are waiting on Coldplay news for Glasto 2015 still), won Best International Group and performance wise, Madonna meanwhile, has made all the headlines for falling off the stage!

Coldplay did not taste success this time around, unlike 2009 but will be hoping for better things, perhaps next year or in 2017.

2006 : Such A Rush?

The band had just completed a set at San Jose HP Pavillion, during the Twisted Logic tour. It was Chris Martin's first visit to San Jose and he talked about making it special, with a funny reference to the first time he had sex, which of course when he was 22! (If you knew that, like I did, you're into Coldplay a bit too much!)

There’s something magical about the “Unstaged” performance of “The Scientist.” It doesn’t even seem fair to choose one song as that entire concert was incredible during the MX era. “The Scientist” during a Coldplay set always seems like the meditative, peaceful lull in a set that pulsates with energy. Perhaps that is what is most amazing about “The Scientist” and the impact it has on Coldplay fans.

Aside from the initial outcry from fans when Chris plays the opening chords on piano, the song’s impact on the crowd is incredibly powerful. It never ceases to amaze me how thousands of people at once can seemingly be mesmerized by one particular song. Chris always mentions how he knows what songs work and what songs don’t by judging the entrances into the stadium – if they’re filled with silhouettes or if they are void of life. Judging by the massive sing-a-long during the “Unstaged” performance, there weren’t many people thinking about a bathroom break, and why would they? 

There’s something about those chords that seemingly evoke emotion. There’s an undeniable truth to those chords about the depressing yet hopeful situation the song tells us about. What’s more is that it seems like everybody understands it. We’ve all been there in our lives – living with regret, nothing left but hope for better. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you came from, or what you believe in – we could all share stories of losing something that is invaluable to us. During the song, there is a universal agreement and understanding of what Chris is singing. This feeling is not only spurred on by the very idea of losing something that is lost, but it’s also invigorated by the frank, yet emotional way in which Chris sings the song.

After the crowd chanted the first chorus along with Chris, Jonny joins Chris with his acoustic guitar in a re-assembled chord progression that reassures the crowd that optimism can exist during a painful time. Leading into the second verse, Guy and Will join as the energy surrounding the song builds. Chris sings with emphasis the continuing analysis of a heart-wrenching circumstance.

Chris is met again with the chant of the second chorus by the crowd, with Chris convincingly singing “Let’s go back to the start,” seemingly at the pinnacle. Optimism abounds as Jonny switches to electric guitar and Chris seemingly affirms the state of affairs with his reassuring series of falsettos.

The connection between the band and crowd hits new heights during the song as Chris asks the crowd to sing the chorus one more time while it’s guided by the piano chords. There’s nothing quite like hearing thousands sing together at once, and the power of that even shocks Chris, and seemingly humbles him, with a lit up face and a realization of the unity and understanding “The Scientist” pulls from the body of every single fan in that audience. The impact of this song can be seen on the face of each person in that crowd, and on the inspired face of Chris Martin. Notice how words are missing in that instance? It’s because words can’t do it justice.

Today is a special day. It marks 15 years since Coldplay supported Muse at the Newcastle University Student Union's concert. The new band on the block, Coldplay, had just released their first single, titled Shiver and were recording the official music video for Yellow on a Dorset beach.

According to setlist.fm, the band played a show on 19th January 2000 at Newcastle University but they performed a different (and shorter) set when supporting Muse on January 31st we believe. There is a distinct lack of online info due to the date. The article states that Coldplay were supporting Muse already and they were prepared for a show at Newcastle University Student's Union.

The fresh faced bassist, Guy Berryman and drummer, Will Champion were interviewed ahead of the show and you can read about it all within the link to the archive below. We might gasp at the thought now but videos and pics weren't readily available online back then. We have a transcript you can read through instead!

Both bands are enjoying tremendous success still and Coldplay, who were supporting Muse, are arguably the biggest band in the world now, while Muse are not too far behind. Other bands Coldplay supported also included Embrace, who released an album last year but it wasn't commercially celebrated and have almost seen a reverse in fortunes compared to Coldplay.

The frontmen of Coldplay and Muse, Chris Martin and Matt Bellamy recently met up at the Haiti Gala.

Coldplay are set for a live return soon upon being announced as a headline act for a new disability-friendly music initiative, organised by BBC Radio 1 DJ, Jameela Jamil. The group which Jameela has founded is called 'Why Not People?' and they seek to give disabled music fans an experience which is level with non-disabled people.

This is what the founder of the organisation, 'Why Not People?' had to say about the upcoming landmark event, which will host the likes of Ed Sheeran and Mark Ronson, in addition to Coldplay: (Via NME)

Coldplay are supporters of numerous charities, including the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The band are always looking to help people in a less advantageous position and they are now one of the first bands to help deal with this previously 'hidden' music-wide issue. The BBC recently conducted a survey with various music venues and found that only less than 1% of seats could accommodate a wheelchair.

More specifically at a Coldplay concert during the Mylo Xylotour, in the Emirates stadium in London, a disabled fan was allocated a seat by the venue which was described as 'unreasonable' on a blog documenting the struggles of a disabled music-goer. (Image on the right)

It's great to see Coldplay being one of the first major bands to respond to this. We hope to see venues adopt a new approach to help all sets of fans and make the live experience even better!

'Why Not People?' show to kick off A Head Full Of Dreams tour?

A recent press release detailed that the band will kick off their next tour (un-titled but presuming penned seventh album name) with the 'Why Not People?' show. Major news indeed if this proves to be true!

When will the 'Why Not People?' gig take place? There are no dates right now but we will keep you updated when we do get one!

Chris Martin was talking to The Sun Newspaper in Ireland in his first interview of 2015. Coldplay's lead singer appeared to be in 'top form, giggling and joking about everything' as he speaks of the year ahead, his phenomenal experience covering as U2's frontman in December, Bono's injury, his musical influences and his quest to find the 'perfect happiness song'

Chris Martin and Bruce Springsteen's amusing conspiracy!

Coldplay's frontman continued his spirited and joyful outlook into 2015, as he looks back at an eventful end to the previous year, firstly talking about his experience at the RED concert on 1st December, when he (and Bruce Springsteen) covered for the injured Bono, during U2's performance. He couldn't help laughing and adding :

How did it all happen? Chris expands : “I don’t want to say too much, but Bruce called me and said, ‘Listen, meet me in Central Park. I’ve been too long without a concert and I’ve got an idea’.” The singer told The Sun that we was relieved to get his old job back with Coldplay afterwards! Chris then says: “Bill Clinton was there and it was really a big deal to raise money for U2’s charity Red and they couldn’t cancel it because of Bono’s accident. So Bruce and I both sang two U2 songs and it was a total blast and I was happy to help out for the evening.”

Chris: My love for LA

The in-demand frontman re-iterated his love for Los Angeles and adds: “When I think about where I came from and where I am today, I am like, ‘Jeez, how did that happen?’ It’s miraculous. I mean look at this nose! It’s enormous! So many things have happened to me that I couldn't possibly have made happen myself, whether it’s meeting the rest of the band, or meeting the mother of your children or being blessed with some musical talent, or getting to live in Los Angeles. I mean, the list is so endless that I couldn’t be anything but thankful and grateful and attribute it to something other than me."

He then chats about his background in rural Devon, South West England:

“I come from a farming community in the west of England, where the very idea of going to America was a golden dream. There’s still a part of me every morning can’t believe that we are allowed to be there. There is always a sense of possibility".

Focusing back on LA, Chris continued: "Of course it has its challenges and its ups and downs, but there is always an optimism that I find exciting. Maybe it’s because the sun shines in LA every day and you are surrounded by lots of other creative people, but I feel a great sense of, ‘OK, what can we make?’ And it’s nice to be by the seaside. I feel very grateful.”

Radio Dial - Waltz In B Minor

Let's anaylize a potential track title which came out of the woodwork in December (well spotted by @Coldplayatlas). Radio Dial - Waltz In B Minor could feature on Coldplay's next album, A Head Full Of Dreams or could be part of another project such a film. No other details at the moment but the quote below confirms how this title came to be, through his love of classical composer, Chopin (Audio for Chopin's Waltz)

The tension of Coldplay songs and the quest of happiness

Chris explains the chemistry between Coldplay songs: “Music for me is a real catharsis and I think the fact that I can express myself allows me to enjoy the lightness of things. I do have happier music, but I think Coldplay’s songs have a tension between them. You could hear them as sad or you could hear them as uplifting, depending on your mood.

The Coldplay frontman doesn't really tell on whether their songs are happy or sad and leaves it to the imagination of the fans instead to interpret the feeling. This appears to be because of the intentional 'tension' with the band's music: “Sometimes when a song comes through that’s really just happy or sad, the rest of the band doesn't accept it, because they like a certain tension.

And when finishing his interview with The Sun, Chris tells them of his ambition to find the 'perfect happy song'. Chris quoted in 2014 that the band are trying to make the perfect song everyday, with Yellow previously referenced.

2015 is underway and it could be a defining year for the band, as they are tipped to release their seventh album, titled A Head Full Of Dreams. Not only that but Chris told New York radio station, Fresh 102.7 back in August that the guys will be going on tour, following the release of LP7. We will summarize and speculate on the upcoming Coldplay year ahead!

A Head Full Of Dreams

We had our first and golden nugget of info from Chris' naughty album title revelation to Zane Lowe, resulting in the usually very calm Jonny Buckland losing his temper (an event as rare as every 10 years!) and taking away Chris' microphone.

Coldplay themselves don't know when their next album, A Head Full Of Dreams will be finished. When bassist Guy Berryman was asked by Jo Wiley (

Lead guitarist Jonny Buckland was also quick to point out the band's track record of making albums, meaning, there could be delays.

A release of A Head Full Of Dreams in 2015 seems to be likely but it could be later on in the year, depending on how the recording and production of the album pans out. Coldplay have been working on the follow up to Ghost Stories, since it was released in May 2014. The 'one-off' album was something Chris Martin 'needed to make' and Coldplay's plan was to make something else straight away!

How will A Head Full Of Dreams sound like? Chris has already hinted of a colourful affair once more and will certainly be uplifting. The more personal the song is, the more likely it will end up on A Head Full Of Dreams, according to Coldplay's lead singer, who has been in a buoyant mood in recent times.

Not to mention the frontman stating it "will be fun to shuffle your feet a little bit", in reference to the upcoming album. The clip below, from 2006 amusingly shows the range of dance moves we could see from the guys once more!!!

Next World Tour?

Festival appearances, like before the release of Mylo Xyloto appear unlikely at this stage but with the Glastonbury line up announced in late spring, there is still time left if the band finish the recording of A Head Full Of Dreams soon. The official line ups for Lollapalooza 2015 in Chile, Argentina and Brazil do not feature Coldplay, so with no confirmations as of yet, we could be looking at 2016 for festival appearances. Watch this space.

What about an arena tour? It could provide the perfect transition from the intimate scenarios seen during the Ghost Stories era, into the massive scale of stadium shows. During the Mylo Xyloto era, their arena shows kicked off the world tour, with the Xylobands debuting in Glasgow. Jonny, during the Q&A session seen earlier in the article, did state the band wants to play at least a few shows in 2015.

The North American legs of the Mylo Xylotour stadium shows were announced in December 2011, within two months of Mylo Xyloto's release. It's worth noting that Chris Martin talked about not wanting to have the 'same cycle' in reference to not repeating the routine of their previous albums. Fan interaction was also mentioned during a series of interviews back in August, as the band are looking at new ways they can engage with Coldplayers.

Xylobands could be brought back to Coldplay shows for their next tour. Jason Regler's company gave us a teaser of the new multi coloured bands at the BBC Music Awards, particularly during A Sky Full Of Stars last month (as seen below). Fingers crossed that it won't be long until we're jumping around to Charlie Brown, A Sky Full Of Stars and new songs!

X&Y - 10 Year Anniversary

Among all the seventh album madness, it's the special 10 year anniversary of Coldplay's rocking album of 2005! Coldplay took their popularity to new levels as they tasted world domination, broke US billboard records and delighted many fans, with endless anthems, including Fix You. We will be looking back at the epic era for X&Y soon!

For the band themselves, Fix You and Til Kingdom Come have remained regular live fixtures in recent times. It's no secret that their third album receives the most internal band criticism when compared to their other releases but if they play live in 2015, they could give a nod to a few of the classics from X&Y. A special show for the LP would be the stuff of dreams.

All in all, 2015 is the year of dreams and celebrations for Coldplayers and there could many surprises waiting for us in the year ahead!

Exactly three years ago, Coldplay started off 2012 in style, with Paradise storming the UK single charts for the top position, for the second time since Viva La Vida reached the number one spot in 2008. The success of Paradise in the UK was largely inspired by the band's X-Factor gamble.

The band were contemplating whether to perform at the X-Factor final in the UK on 11th December 2011. The popular UK show has always split opinions of music fans. Critics of the music talent show dislike the 'manufactured' nature of the show and hundred's of thousands of music fans revolted against the X-Factor two years earlier, by supporting the Rage Against The Machine campaign which toppled the monopoly that the reality show had on the Christmas number one spot every year. Supporters of the TV show praise the opportunity the reality series gives to aspiring singers and it's broad, family friendly appeal.

A week before the decision was made on November 23rd, Coldplay ruled themselves out from performing on the live final, at Wembley Arena, London. Will Champion and Guy Berryman were against playing on the show, while Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland and creative boss, Phil Harvey were in favour of their live debut on the X-Factor. Coldplay had to consider whether it was right for them to perform on the show which was seen as a 'no go' area for rock or alternative acts and potentially facing criticism as a result or playing live within a setting they haven't experienced before, likely gaining new fans and extra single/album sales in the process.

In times of disputes, Coldplay's drummer, Will revealed the band's inspiration for overcoming differences :

The band agreed to perform live and to visit uncharted territory for a band of Coldplay's nature but on a few conditions: They would not perform a duet with the other X-Factor finalists and will play the songs of their choice with having to change anything. Chris was keen to try out the experience of the X-Factor and was grateful for the opportunity (Speaking to Absolute Radio) :

11th December arrived and it was showtime for Coldplay, who performed in front of perhaps their largest audience, of 17 million British viewers on live TV. The fantastic Xylobands were ever present for the two tracks performed on the night, Charlie Brown and Paradise as Coldplay rocked out the X-Factor in perfect fashion, letting their music do the talking!

Their performance on peak-time television did wonders for their sales, as expected, with fifth album Mylo Xyloto experiencing a 132% week on week rise . Paradise, which was a moderate top 10 hit in the UK singles charts previously, benefited the most, with a meteoric rise into the second position on Christmas release week. Just as the second single from Mylo Xyloto joined the number two club with In My Place and Speed of Sound, it's sales continued to grow, as the X-Factor winner of 2011 dropped down the charts and Coldplay found themselves on top of the perch for the new year. Coldplay earned their second number one single, with Paradise!

The result of Coldplay's second number one was due to their X-Factor performance and the post-Christmas 'gift card effect', which boosted their iTunes sales considerably. Could Paradise of been such a big hit in the UK without the X-Factor? Probably not but their song was gaining popularity worldwide and despite being a moderate chart hit in most countries, the official video on Youtube was gaining a plethora of views, with Paradise becoming extremely popular on streaming services such as Spotify.

Coldplay not only conquered the UK charts on New Years Day in 2012 but their third track from Mylo Xyloto, Paradise left a lasting legacy in the catalogue of the band's hits.

The frontman of The Killers, Brandon Flowers has admitted there's a huge gap between the two supergroups, U2 and Coldplay, compared with other rock stars of the current musical generation and thinks the band chemistry, along with history is the main reason for the phenomenal success of the two bands.

Brandon Flowers, who is on the verge of releasing his second solo album, the follow up to 2010's Flamingo, feels like The Killers do not possess the drive or chemistry to match U2 or Coldplay.

It's due to be a surreal moment later on at the World AIDS Day event (RED) in the Times Square, New York as Coldplay's frontman and 'The Boss', Bruce Springsteen will both perform as U2's lead singer as their own frontman, Bono is still recovering from a bike crash in Central Park, a day after Chris and Bono recorded Band Aid 30.

Both Chris Martin and Bruce Springsteen, who are certainly friends to be relied on are believed to be performing a U2 song each, alongside Bono's band-mates, Adam Clayton, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. Based on their individual styles, 'The Boss' will be more likely to play The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone) while we could see Coldplay's frontman take to the stage with Edge and co during Every Breaking Wave, a song which Chris helped U2 record for their latest album, Songs Of Innocence. If you're not familiar with either track, they're probably still in your iTunes library (unless you used Apple's removal tool!)

The opportunity must feel like a dream come true for Chris Martin, who is boyhood fan of U2 and sought guidance from Bono while developing into the multi-talented frontman he is today. The show, later tonight at 7.30pm Eastern Time US is very important culturally and is close to Bono's heart as the recovering singer spoke to U2.com from Dublin

Kanye West and Carrie Underwood will also perform at RED later tonight. The event is available to stream from within this article via Youtube! There is a countdown timer feature so by clicking play, you can find out exactly when it will be airing!

Coldplay's Pals, U2 have been talking to The Sun Newspaper in the UK, ahead of their physical release for 'Songs Of Innocence', which conveniently landed on our iTunes libraries from mid September. In a series of statements on artists/bands such as The Clash and David Bowie, Bono explained a further influence Chris Martin had on their latest album.

We know that Chris Martin features on U2's new song, 'Iris (Hold Me Close)' but its now been revealed that Coldplay's frontman has had a larger influence than first though. Bono has been chatting to The Sun about the second track from 'Songs Of Innocence', 'Every Breaking Wave' and the Irish frontman was full of praise for Chris, branding him a 'genius' and 'one of their bodyguards'.

A version of 'Every Breaking Wave' featured on U2's historic 360 tour before making the cut on their new album. This comes as no surprise as most recently, they have a great friendship and understanding with each other and Chris Martin has referred to Bono many times in interviews as one of his idols (along with Michael Stipe). There was one occasion though in 2008, where the pair appeared to have a falling out, or more likely Bono woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day when Bono called Chris a 'cretin' among other things! The Devonshire born singer responded back directly to Bono's feistiness with some banter, “I think it’s great that we’re arch enemies,” Martin said. “That’s a joke too.”.

After Chris lent a helping hand to Bono, could we expect the same returned favour for Coldplay's seventh LP? It is assumed the band are working on it right now within their London studio, The Bakery. Discuss the rumours on the forums and Coldplaying will bring you news as soon as there is any!

Ben Miles an acclaimed visual producer and video director who has been an integral part of recent live shows. This is an in depth read about Coldplay's visuals on the mini 'Ghost Stories' tour. Despite the tour being a more intimate affair, the band still needed the expertise of Ben Miles to showcase the band's visuals live on stage, most notably in the Dome City Hall, Tokyo and The Royce Hall, Los Angeles. The stunning visuals you may remember at the Royal Albert Hall were also brought to us by Ben Miles. The visual producer used the Roland V-1600HD Multi Format Live Video Switcher for the productions.

Roland V-1600HD Mixes Coldplay’s Visuals on Tour. Pictured here, the Tokyo showFew tours in recent years have been as visually iconic as Coldplay and their most recent, Ghost Stories is no exception. Despite the fact that this tour played low key venues rather than their usual mega stadium performances, a band with such stage presence requires an impressive visual production and Video Director Ben Miles from Mixed Emotions, London was tasked with delivering just that. Using a mixture of live and pre-recorded content, the result was a show that worked in the more intimate settings but also produced a visually stunning finale at the Royal Albert Hall.

Playing six dates in support of the release of their album of the same name, the Ghost Stories tour took in low key venues such as the E-Werk in Cologne, the Beacon Theatre in New York, Royce Hall in LA, Casino de Paris in Paris, Dome City Hall in Tokyo and of course the final dates at the Royal Albert Hall with a few extras such as the Radio 1 Big Weekend along the way.

Taking care of mixing cameras and content for the main stage video screen, the Roland V-1600HD Multi Format Live Video Switcher played an integral part in the tour. Chosen for its versatility, compact design, high channel count and the ability to accept a variety of video input formats out of the box, the V-1600HD proved to be an ideal solution. Multi award winning provider of creative video solutions for touring, XL Video, supplied the V-1600HD.

Video director Ben Miles explains, “XL Video suggested the V-1600HD to me while I was on the road with Elbow, I liked the sound of the functionality so I did some reading on the specs and XL sent one out to me on tour so I could test it out. I was keen to check the latency between input and output and how fast you could cut between feeds as well as the usability of the menus. All of these functions performed really well and the size of the console was excellent for the type of tour we were doing where I needed to compress the amount of kit being flown around and also real estate onstage. We played some tiny theatres and shoe horned tons of equipment in so it was essential my control setup was small but still had all the required functionality.”

The V-1600HD was used as the central mixer to take in all the camera feeds and content from a Catalyst video server. Four broadcast-quality cameras were supplied locally at each show and plugged in using BNC at either 1080i or 720p using 50 or 60Hz. Three Bradley Robocams toured with the V-1600HD and were connected using BNC at 720p as well as two Gnat Minicams at 720p. The Catalyst content server was plugged into the DVI input on the V-1600HD.

One of the Minicams was connected via DVI from a scaler so that the content could be resized and the scaler properties utilized. The V-1600HD was also used to output tallies to the four manned cameras with no need for extra converters. On some of the shows the V-1600HD was used to generate the Ref Sync and on others an external reference was used to sync up. The output was mostly at 720p in order to feed the Catalyst to mix with content which was then outputted to the LED screen in front of which was a rear projection screen. The loop outs of the 8 x HD BNCs were connected to a multi viewer giving previews of the camera sources. The built-in V-1600HD screen was used as a preview and program monitor.

On some shows such as the Radio 1 Big Weekend, the preview output on the V-1600HD was used to feed the side screen as a second cut so the main program could be used on the upstage LED wall mixed with content and effects and a clean cut to the IMAGs.

“The ability to take in different sources at different resolutions and frame rates on different connectors was a massive bonus. I would have needed quite a few scan converters to perform the same task. Plus knowing that I could take in most broadcast resolutions directly meant a lot less conversations in advance of shows prepping kit as I knew that the V-1600HD could deal with most variations. As we went between the UK, US, Australia and Japan that just about covers all the different power, frame rate and frequencies out there and the Roland had all the options covered. The built in preview monitor is really handy to get you up and running quickly to test feeds and make sure the system is running without the need for everything to be up and running,” Miles added.

The sixteen inputs of the V-1600HD provide connectivity to HD/SD-SDI, DVI-D/HDMI, RGB, Component, S-video, and composite formats — as well as still images assignable via USB memory. The fourteen mixing channels provide built-in scalers and frame syncs for worry-free seamless mixing regardless of the resolution or format. The all-in-one design of the Roland V-1600HD features a built-in preview monitor that provides a convenient monitoring solution when external monitors are not available or ideal. Dual independent multi-format outputs provide a number of innovative multi-screen output options including the ability to SPAN the mixer output to two projectors with the ability to edge-blend the center. In AUX mode, the outputs can be set to different resolutions ideal for sending the program out to a record feed.

Additional features such as Downstream Keyer, Composite Keyer and Picture-in-Picture can be controlled with simple operation with 64 memory banks enable storage and instant recall of setup parameters. SPAN, DUAL and SPLIT modes offer a variety of output configurations. With the Multi Zoom function, one camera can be used to create multiple perspectives for virtual multi-camera production. The V-1600HD can be plugged in to an LED wall directly which much less latency without the need for peripheral products.

“The size of the kit on tour was a big consideration. We had to fly the gear in and out of shows with a quick turnaround and having an all-in-one box was a massive space saver. Also the onstage space was very limited and I like to see the screen as well as the band, which means I need to be on or near stage. If I had a bigger desk I doubt this would have been possible. I tended to put the local PPU backstage somewhere and send the feeds to and fro remotely. I was concerned that all this functionality in one small unit was going to get really hot but we didn't find this at all. The V-1600HD ran smoothly without a hitch at every gig and some of the shows it was really hot in the venue and the kit was up against it,” Miles concluded.

9 : Always In My Head (Visual video)

Remember the first time you heard the opening studio track of 'Ghost Stories' in full? Whether it was spinning the album for the first time or listening to the song premiere on the Zane Lowe show back on 12th May, it was a special moment for many fans. 3 : Coldplay live at the 50th Max Sessions

Coldplay originally performed a wonderful show for the hundreds of delighted Coldplay fans in Sydney, Australia, on June 18th. The footage wasn't released until mid-August but the wait was justified with a string of sensational performances by the band within the very intimate venue for the band's returns to the Max Sessions after playing at the very first Max Sessions in 2001!

1 : Chris Martin on Sirius XM Radio - Live performance and interview

The top spot on the list goes to the special Chris Martin live appearance on Sirius XM satellite radio. The interview revealed a bunch useful information regarding their reasons for a smaller tour during the 'Ghost Stories' era and their next album. It fueled much speculation about Coldplay's future output and touring. Here's a few excerpts from the original article.

'A Ghost'

"They're calling you some kind of Ghost". An old school Coldplay feel about this one. 'A Ghost' was an unreleased track during the 'A Rush of Blood to The Head' era. It was performed as part of a 'Germany unplugged' show in 2003 performed with 'Merry Little Christmas'. A spooky Christmas feel indeed and one of Coldplay's finest rares. 11 years later, Coldplay re-invent another 'Ghost Story'!

'A Ladder to the Sun'

'Ladder To The Sun' was a song written during the recording of 'X&Y' but it did not make the final cut. However, the song was played during the Twisted Logic Tour. The song may have been for Chris Martin's then wife Gwyneth Paltrow. There may also be some relationship between the song and the single 'Talk', as the title appears in its lyrics "You can climb a ladder up to the sun". There are two slightly different live variations, the audio below contains 'version number 1'. You can find the link for 'version number 2' on the forums.

'Bloodless Revolution'

'Bloodless Revolution' is the third track of the nine track demo album that was leaked on 18 July 2009. You can find most of the demos on Youtube. This is perhaps one exception as download links to the demos are not posted on our forums but it can be requested via private message. The song was probably scrapped and parts of it were used to make other songs that were featured on 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends'. The song features a classic and catchy piano hook.

'Swallowed in The Sea' (acoustic version)

'Swallowed in The Sea', the well known track from 'X&Y' was one of the fan favourites from the band's third album with some stunning live versions like Toronto 2006. The following acoustic, from an intimate session in Japan the band played at in 2006 may be familiar to some Coldplayers. This is such an acoustic gem from the X&Y era.

'Ode to Deodorant'

'The Coldplay', as they were called at the time, released this as a double A side ensemble single with 'Brothers and Sisters' in 1998. The song was leaked online 8 years later. During an interview with interview magazine, Will Champion commented on 'Ode to Deodorant' : "had a good ending and a good bass line, but it was a crappy song." Under-rated a tad by the band themselves, its the starting out point in Coldplay's history before their successful first album, 'Parachutes'. The demo tape of 'Ode to Deodorant' also features Phil Harvey's phone number which unsurprisingly, is not available to contact Phil on anymore!

'A Spell A Rebel Yell'

The B-side to 'Violet Hill' on a limited edition Vinyl. Coldplay's sound engineer, Dan Green shares a writing credit on the song. The tune is very experimental and Shoegazing genre inspired. The song was played by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 on 6th May 2008.

'Lovers in Japan' (acoustic)

This beautiful version of 'Lovers in Japan' is a standout from the Viva era, before the album release. It was part of Coldplay's session at Q, a UK radio station in 2008, as part of the radio station launch on 'Q:PM'. This was the first heard version of 'Lovers in Japan' as the studio track wasn't heard until the album was leaked 2 weeks before launch.

'Amsterdam' (early version)

The early pre-album version of the 'AROBTTH' album closer which we all know and love. This version is live from Reykjavik, Iceland in 2001. It's debut was at the Enmore Theatre on Aug 7th 2001, again in Brisbane on Aug 10th then August 22nd in Reykjavik.

'Wedding Bells' (Chris Martin only)

"Those Wedding Bells are ringing up upon that hill, I don't wanna swallow such a bitter pill". One of the tracks in contention for LP5, later known as 'Mylo Xyloto'. It was featured as a demo, played by Chris Martin on Melvyn Bragg's South Bank Show and was aired on ITV in the UK on 20th September 2009. Part of the track's melody was used for eventually Christmas single, Christmas Lights, released at the end of 2009.

Ice Bucket for a crown? Coldplay's ALS challenge.

We wandered when it was coming but Chris Martin has now completed the challenge set by his now ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow (and Shakira!), who took part in the #ALS Ice Bucket challenge a few days ago while nominating Chris, Stella McCartney and Cameron Diaz.

ALS stands for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a form of Motor Neurone Disease. Chris dedicated Fix You at the Royal Albert Hall on the 2nd July to Jody Duff who has a form of Motor Neurone Disease and the band kindly donated £10,000 to the charity raising money for the registered charity, MDNA. The Ice Bucket campaign involved what you just saw Gwyneth do, pouring an ice cold bucket of water over themselves in the name of fundraising through entertainment. You must also nominate three other people to take part in the challenge. Its gone viral over the past few weeks and its all for a great cause!

Chris Martin and Stella McCartney both took part in the same challenge and were splashed from up above as the Coldplay's frontman nominated U2's frontman, Bono, along with Sir Paul McCartney and Angelina Jolie! You can watch the replay from Instagram below.

That's not all though! The band, One Republic performed a show last night in Houston, Texas. They carried out the Ice bucket challenge live on stage in front of all their fans. After they were drenched in Ice cold water, One Republic's frontman, Ryan Tedder challenged Vanilla Ice (quite apt!), The Queen of England and our very own, Coldplay! So Guy, Will and Jonny, its your turn! I will guess Chris will take part again too. There is supposed to be 24 hour deadline but I don't know if the guy's have heard this yet. It's ok though if they do play the unreleased track, Bucket For A Crown (only performance 27th November 2006, charity gig with Chris Martin only). It would be very fitting indeed.

The Viva La Vida demos - Pieces of art

The Viva era was a special time to be a Coldplay fan. The band had taken a new approach and production style with the likes of Brian Eno. A lot of buzz was created around the exciting period in Coldplay's history, not just from the album itself but during a random weekend on July 18th 2009, over a year since the release of Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, the demos had surfaced online, to the masses of delighted and surprised Coldplayers! It wasn't without controversy however as the demos were leaked and were not supposed to be released online, just like the rough cut of Life in Technicolor, featuring the guys in the studio with Brian Eno. That clip was leaked from the official Coldplay website before the release of 'VLVODAAHF'. The Viva La Vida demos were requested not to be shared and the copies of the tracks are not available within the Coldplaying forums but have been available to stream on Youtube since 2010. Wish I Was Here soundtrack - Cat Power and Coldplay

We have seen high profile collaborations over the years involving Coldplay, such as with Rihanna on Princess of China and Kylie Minogue on Lhuna and appearing on stage with the band during their recent Ghost Stories show in Sydney. Chris has even shared studios with well known stars such as Jay-Z and most recently Sweedish producer, Avicii. Based on previous collaborations then, Coldplay's new song with Cat Power, the singer/songwriter and occasional actress is certainly lower on the fame scale!

The song in question is Wish I Was Here, part of the soundtrack to the film of the same title, 'the spiritual follow up' from 2004's Garden State from actor and director, Zach Braff, who rose to fame through his starring role in TV show, Scrubs as Dr. John Dorian. Mr Braff is a self confessed Coldplay fan and he chose Coldplay's Don't Panic to start off the soundtrack for Garden State, 10 years ago.

Coldplay set for Landmark shows at the Royal Albert Hall.

The start of July is almost upon us. Coldplay will be back in their home country, ready for a show of a lifetime! There will be no giant stadia this time around but instead, a very glamorous and intimate venue, inside the Royal Albert Hall. The stage will be 360 degrees, meaning it will be similar to the stage of the Ghost Stories film in LA, albeit all seated and no gaint overhead screens, which was the main reason Coldplay forked out around $4 million back in March. Instead, the classy venue of the Royal Albert Hall will provide for a unique experience which only emphasises Coldplay's intimate approach to this tour.

We were all familiar with the great ticket rush on June 6th! Tickets were sold out quickly as many Coldplayers faced a long online queue, which never ended for some until the dreaded 'Coldplay tickets have sold out' message loomed large. A number of fans were able to proceed past the waiting screen to buy tickets for the London show, others capitalized through the composure and goodwill of other fans, who posted the sales telephone number on the forums. There were still many fans ticket-less but fast forward many weeks later and the outlook is completely different! Day by day, more Coldplayers have snapped up tickets as ticket scalpers fail in their efforts to make a huge profit from their second ticket, resulting in tickets being cancelled and going back on sale in batches for the determined, never say die Coldplay fans. These batches of tickets are likely to appear on Monday too or even on the day of the show, so a last minute rush to London may be the outcome for some Coldplayers.

On July 1st, the band will mark their return to London in style, with not only the thousands of delirious Coldplay fans but many Coldplayers listening to the Absolute Radio stream of the Royal Albert Hall show, perhaps in their hotel room in anticipation on the following show on the 2nd July. The fans who are privileged enough to see the first show will be the most likely to hear new material such as Ghost Story or All Your Friends, just released on the A Sky Full of Stars EP in person but don't quote that, it's a more hopeful thought! As a few Coldplayers pointed out, Coldplay are due to play from 21:00 to 22:45, longer than the previous few shows, indicating a long setlist if that schedule proves to be correct.

With Coldplayers still on a high from the night before, some will be heading back home, others will be getting ready for their first experience of Coldplay at the Albert Hall for their second and final show on the Wednesday. Around half of our forums (slight exaggeration!) will be going to the 2nd July show, with many Coldplayers buying second tickets from other fans or being able to buy them from Gigsandtours. It will all be one gaint Coldplaying party with our favourite band!. The magnificent event may even spring up a surprise if it will be the last show on the fabulous Ghost Stories tour. Whatever happens, there will be a standing ovation for the best band in the world....

The World Cup 2014 in Brazil, the ultimate international football/soccer tournament, commences this Thursday 12th with the opening ceremony at 2:15 Eastern US time, 7:15 UK time, followed by the opening match just under 2 hours after, with the host nation, Brazil facing Croatia.

The band as football fans

To start off the spirit, Coldplay donated a commemorative disc to Exeter City Football club, the team who Chris Martin supports, who are in the fourth tier of English football. The occasion is the upcoming 100th anniversary of the clubs famous game, against national side, Brazil in 1914! Exeter city are filming a musical to celebrate this and Coldplay's kind donation has inspired many.

The band are generally big football fans, with Jonny Buckland being the most enthusiastic. Jonny boy is a die hard Tottenham Hotspur fan, who had quoted we would quit music in favour of playing for Spurs in 2008. He had the privilege of been at their Champion League ties a few years ago, including the famous win against Inter Milan which Jonny described as "the best game he had ever seen". Scottish born Guy Berryman is an avid supporter of his local club, Raith Rovers FC. Most of the band will no doubt be supporting their home country, England, while Guy Berryman will be a neutral Scottish fan since Scotland did not qualify for the tournament in Brazil. Anchorman will also be supporting England but he, like most of the football world, does not rate England's chances

Highly unlikely, but with young talents and star player Wayne Rooney, you never know! If it does happen, Anchorman, as a forfeit, has to convince the band to cover World in Motion by New Order, the famous World Cup anthem of 1990 or remake, 'World in Lotion' for Qatar 2022!! Seems like a fair deal, right?!

Chris has made many Football references in the past including "Coldplay are the Manchester United of pop" which goes down well with me and other Man Utd fans here! Chris Martin also joked during a Coldplay gig, before the 2006 World Cup in Germany, if England won the world cup, the band would release "Do the Crouch", in honour of England striker Peter Crouch's trademark celebration! The video below is a unique fusion of "Do the Crouch" and "Don't Panic"!
