Much loved UK independent record label which released Coldplay's Brothers & Sisters EP 20 years ago, Fierce Panda, have a special treat for Coldplay fans!

UPDATE: Due to a slight delay in the manufacturing process, pre-orders will now be dispatched on Aug 1st and the vinyl will hit record stores on Aug 23rd.

To celebrate the anniversary of the release, Fierce Panda is releasing a special reissue of Coldplay's first EP on its 20th anniversary. The original ‘Brothers & Sisters’ release was a two-track 7” (‘Brothers & Sisters’ and ‘Easy To Please’) limited to 1000 copies and a three-track compact disc single, with ‘Only Superstition’ as the third song. Both limited edition formats sold out immediately, with ‘Brothers & Sisters’ roaring into the charts at number 92.

The label is releasing two limited edition pink and blue coloured vinyl 7" singles. The two singles will be released on July 12th 2019 and are available for pre-order today, either separately or as a double trouble bundle!

PRE-ORDER HERE NOW via FIERCE PANDA BANDCAMP

Aside from a version of ‘Brothers & Sisters’ appearing on their ‘Trouble’ single a year later on Parlophone, legend (and the global internet) has it that these three tracks have barely been touched by the hand of Coldplay since released. In which case 7” single aficionados may like to know that this is the first, and quite possibly, only time that ‘Only Superstition’ has ever been, or indeed ever will be, released on vinyl.

The fierce panda label is itself currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, which means they were not even five years old when they first encountered Coldplay at the Camden Falcon in November 1998. Fascinatingly scruffed at the edges they were too (the band, not the label, although…), and ‘Shiver’ and ‘Bigger Stronger’ alone suggested an epically subtle song-crafting potential that was to hold them in pretty good stead for the next two decades.

The panda was instantly smitten and over the following six months they were to book Coldplay into Station Studios in Southgate to record the three ‘Brothers & Sisters’ tunes. They also booked them in to open the year of gigs at Pandamonium ’99 at the Bull & Gate on January 7th, followed by a headline show at the very same Kentish Town venue on April 1st. In between days Coldplay were introduced to the airwaves by Radio One’s Evening Session and infiltrated the pages of the NME and generally impressed all and sundry with a mix of charm, chutzpah, top tunes and the odd cheeky Curly Wurly bar chucked casually into the unsuspecting crowd.

The Falcon venue and Station Studios are long since gone and the Bull & Gate has gone the ghastly way of the gastropub but the fierce panda label lives to fight another exasperated day. As for the Coldplay band, who could say whatever happened to those unlikeliest of likely lads…?

Speculation Before Release

Last night, Coldplay's record label tweeted a photo of four shadowy figures with caption "Parlophone Records are delighted to present new signing <s>#</s>LosUnidades". It wasn't until this morning when ColdplayXtra speculated that the four figures resembled a press photo of Coldplay from 2014 and the code in the bottom right of the photo was an anagram for 'COLDPLAY2018'.

The Coldplay community put on their detective hats and found a Facebook, Instagram and Twitter page under @LosUnidades, all created this month. Losunidades.com was also found with the same name servers as the ones used on Coldplay.com. Finally, ColdplayXtra found a trademark agreement for 'Los Unidades' registered back in November 2017 with the four band members listed as owners.

Speculation continued and a trademark for 'Car Kids', a discarded track from the Mylo Xyloto era, was found, also registered in November of last year. Users on the r/coldplay subreddit speculated that 'Los Unidades' is an anagram for 'Unsold Ideas', leading to the idea that this could be an album of previously unreleased tracks. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Happy 20th Anniversary, Coldplay!

20 years ago, Coldplay performed their first gig at 'The Laurel Tree' in Camden, London.

The show took place in the upstairs room of the pub, not far from Chris and Jonny’s flat. The building still exists but is no longer a music venue. This is one of the small handful of Coldplay shows not mixed by Daniel Green. It is also notable for the short-lived band-name Starfish before they finally arrived at Coldplay. The gig was completely sold out – mainly as a result of the band’s persuasive skills amongst their friends.

This masterpiece was released in December 2003 as part of Best Buy's "Sweet Treats" promotional holiday disc and recently re-released on Spotify. Chris recorded this whilst on tour in New York. The track is a cover of 'The Pretenders' song '2000 Miles' released back in 1984 on their Learning To Crawl album with a few pronoun changes in the lyrics.

"We love Christmas songs but everytime we try and write one it's awful so we often cover them well once or twice actually. In fact, the song I would most like to have written is Fairytale of New York by de bloody Pogues of Ireland" - Chris Martin

Christmas Lights

The world famous "Christmas Lights" track was released on December 1st 2010 as a digital download. Described by the band as "a mid-tempo number" in the key of G major, the song was released to very positive reviews.

A few days before releasing a new single called “Christmas Lights”, Coldplay braved the cold weather to film its music video at the South Bank of River Thames in London. They are seen performing the song on a small theatre-inspired stage with red velvet curtains.

Several Elvis Presley impersonators play the violin (including Phil Harvey and Simon Pegg), and a boat full of Coldplaying members holding colourful balloons and singing the song in a choir-like fashion was floating on the river. “The idea for the video was like a magical, surreal theater show with loads of tricks packed in,” frontman Chris Martin said.

The band also invited one hundred lucky fans to be part of the video and sing a small portion of their new song. The loyal one hundred flew to London from all over the globe for this special boat trip across the River Thames and an exclusive first listen to the much anticipated new track from Coldplay. The devoted fans gladly braved the blistery winter chill on the outdoor boat deck holding balloons in the air which were to be released whilst singing in a choir-like fashion.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Mince Spies (2001, released only to the Coldplay fan club), consists of a cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and a remix of “Yellow”, limited to 1000 copies worldwide. 16 years later, the track was finally released to the masses on Spotify.

The track was recorded for Jo Wiley's BBC Radio 1 session. It would be some years before Coldplay attempted their own Christmas song, but this was certainly very good training…

Coldplay has played "White Christmas" multiple times at different concerts and shows throughout the year. Perhaps the best version is from Coldplay's show in Berlin on 21st December 2011. Oxfam released the video to celebrate thousands of fans joining the GROW food justice campaign on the December leg of the Mylo Xyloto tour.

Those Jonny fans out there will love this video as it features Jonny's majestic moustache and cap while playing "some tambourine thing!"

Band Aid 20 was the 2004 incarnation of the charity group Band Aid. The group, which included Daniel Bedingfield, Justin Hawkins of The Darkness, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Bono of U2, and Paul McCartney, re-recorded the 1984 song "Do They Know It's Christmas?", written by Band Aid organisers Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. The song was recorded on 14 November 2004, to benefit Sudan's troubled Darfur region, and was released that same month. The single became the UK's biggest seller of 2004 as well as the Christmas number one.

Band Aid 30 is the 2014 incarnation of the charity supergroup Band Aid. The group was announced on 10 November 2014 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, with Geldof stating that he took the step after the United Nations had contacted him, saying help was urgently needed to prevent the 2014 Ebola crisis in Western Africa spreading throughout the world. As in previous incarnations, the group covered the track "Do They Know It's Christmas?", written in 1984 by Geldof and Ure, this time to raise money towards the Ebola crisis in Western Africa. The track has re-tweaked lyrics to reflect the current Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa with all proceeds going towards battling what Geldof described as a "particularly pernicious illness because it renders humans untouchable and that is sickening".

The song was recorded by some of the biggest-selling current British and Irish pop acts, including One Direction, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sandé, Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora. Bastille and Guy Garvey of Mercury prize-winning band Elbow were also on board, along with Chris Martin (Coldplay) and Bono (U2)—the third time he has contributed to a Band Aid recording.

A ghost was played once by Chris Martin on American radio station KCRW on 10 December 2001. The song was intended for A Rush of Blood to the Head but trashed. Although the track isn't seen as "Christmassy", it does transition into Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas which puts it on our list!

This is one of those unintentionally Christmas sounding tracks that fit in perfectly to this list. This collaboration between Ron Sexsmith and Chris Martin came about in 2002.

“Chris was asking Ron all kinds of questions because Ron was one of his songwriting heroes, and Ron mentioned that he writes a lot of songs at the laundromat. Chris asked, ‘Don’t you have a washing machine at your house?’ Ron replied, ‘I don’t have a house. I rent an apartment; I can't afford a house.’ And Chris Martin looked like he was going to faint.”

While on tour in Australia in 2016, Chris wrote a Christmas track in his dressing room before the show.
Wait a day or so on this 2017 European Tour and you miss a years' worth of Coldplay news. Milan gave us the first live airing of Miracles (Someone Special) featuring Big Sean on 7/4 while ALIENS landed on Apple (Music, not Martin!) 7/8. This past week has been head-spinning!

Davide Rossi along with Apple and Moses were among the few appearances we saw onstage during Coldplay's Milan show. 9 Year-old Giacomo performed Don't Panic on harmonica alongside the band. Marriage proposals and dancing elephants onstage made Milan a hectic show for all that attended!

Coldplay played their hits at Global Citizen Festival Hamburg and invited Shakira onstage to perform Me Enamore, Chantaje and Coldplay's very own Yellow. To finish the show, Herbert Grönemeyer invited Chris to perform Mensch with him. In total, Chris sang in three different languages that night!

Sun shone on South America when Coldplay added Brazil and Argentina dates to the tour. You can check them out on our forums.

In Dublin, Chris invited 29-year-old Rob to the stage to play the harmonica with him. The crowd parted as Rob was carried to the c-stage in his wheelchair and passed onto the stage where he performed an improvised tune about Dublin with his favourite band!

Don't dare blink. You never know what beautiful moments you'll miss on this tour! What a wild ride since Parachutes debuted 17 years ago!

Coldplay shocked their followers yesterday by releasing a snippet of 'All I Can Think About is You' and finally releasing the track at midnight!. Besides being played in Tokyo recently, the studio version of the song had not yet been heard and was long anticipated. The song, which builds from a rolling bassline to a hypnotic climax has received praise from all, some even stating it is their best song in years. The lyric video directed by I Saw John First begins with an animation referring to evolution and then begins to rise out of the ocean and into space. It is possibly the most artistic Coldplay Video in a while!

However, with good news, comes a small setback. Once again, Kaleidoscope EP has been delayed until July 14th. We did finally get a completed tracklist which features a collaboration with Big Sean, 'A L I E N S' written by Brian Eno and a live version of Something Just Like This recorded in Tokyo in April! Check out the full tracklist below along with a statement from the band:

1. All I Can Think About Is You

2. Miracles (Someone Special) – Coldplay & Big Sean

3. A L I E N S

4. Something Just Like This (Tokyo Remix) – Coldplay & The Chainsmokers

5. Hypnotised

"The EP was produced by Rik Simpson with Daniel Green and Bill Rahko and features a new live version of Coldplay’s hit collaboration with The Chainsmokers, Something Just Like This, recorded in Tokyo in April. It also includes Miracles (Someone Special), a collaboration with Detroit rapper Big Sean. Another new song, A L I E N S, was written by Brian Eno, and co-produced by Eno and Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons, Kings Of Leon)."

Kaleidoscope EP is available to download and stream on July 14th and released on CD and vinyl on August 4th. You can pre-order by clicking here and if you pre-order digitally you will receive All I Can Think About is You immediately! You can also pre-order the CD and coloured vinyl edition of the EP (with exclusive stickers and poster) from the Coldplay Store now.

Coldplay Release Companion App for Hypnotised

Opal Limited, a company created by Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers, has just released a companion app for Coldplay's new track "Hypnotised". The app was released on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store on June 9th but fans only realised the quiet release today.

Upon opening the app, the user is greeted with a text written in typical Coldplay fashion - not an uppercase letter to be seen!

This suggests that the band may play Hypnotised live at each of their concerts to coincide with the app's release. We are not sure what exactly the aim of this app is but early theories suggest that the app reacts to the song being played live. Thousands of phones displaying a pattern of images in a sold-out stadium may have the potential to create a wonderful sight.

The app is based on Bloom by Brian Eno which "allows anyone to create elaborate patterns and unique melodies by simply tapping the screen. A generative music player takes over when Bloom is left idle, creating an infinite selection of compositions and their accompanying visualisations" The Hypnotised app could simply be a rebranded version of this app or it could have some extra features that we do not know about.

For now we will just have to wait for a statement from Coldplay or Opal Limited themselves! Discuss this app with fellow users on our Forums

Coldplay Offers Love Beyond the Button in Manchester

Taking the stage as the last billed performance after Justin Beiber and Ariana Grande's rousing "Love Me Harder", Coldplay delivered one surprise after another. The band strolled out to a crowd riled into a frenzy chanting "Manchester", following an unexpected video montage of musicians declaring their solidarity with the city. Grande came out with the band some 2:35:00 minutes into the 3-hour show.

All predictions as to the setlist were only partially right. Then again, no one could have seen some of it coming. The opener, for one. Chris and Jonny both hugged Grande, and Martin thanked her for being "brave and wonderful" and told her that Britain wanted to sing for her. Oasis's "Don't Look Back in Anger", the anthem for the event, made the perfect opener with Grande and the crowd singing along as the words rolled by on the screen. The crowd erupted in cheers during Jonny's rousing guitar solo. Grande embraced Chris, before shouting, "Ladies and gentlemen, Coldplay!" before she and Jonny left the stage to Chris.

Chris's thoughtful rendition of a small snippet of James' "Sit Down" invited the audience to do that as he took to his knees for a reverent delivery of Fix You. With hands clasped in prayer pose around the microphone and glances skyward, it was clear he was deeply moved by the occasion. In what will likely be remembered as one of the band's most powerful deliveries of this iconic song, the mood lightened considerably as Martin took to the piano and the confetti cannons burst with colour. Notably missing, speaking of colour, were the Xylobands. However, the bright flowers of the current tour were on display.

Viva La Vida got huge smiles from Katy Perry in the wings, as Black Eyed Pea will.i.am captured the excitement on his phone. In typical rousing fashion, Viva whipped the crowd into joyful dancing, nice to see in an evening largely inspiring tears. With a "Will let's go" from Chris, Champion seemed to send up a prayer with his drumsticks bef0re singing his heart out.

Something Just Like This predictably rounded out the published setlist, with hopes of its performance foreshadowing what we'll hear of it on Kaleidoscope. If so, we'll be rewarded with a true Coldplay version, stripped of much of the Chainsmokers' synth influence, cleanly replaced by Will's steady beat. Unanimously, Forum members watching the live feed gave high praise for this more poignant reworked sound. With the band members outlined in white on the screen as the words played, star confetti rained down on the stage. Chris fittingly had one land on his forehead, and stay there for much of the song. What stole the show was the end, with Jonny's awesome guitar and Guy's funky bit of bass.

Chris thanked the crowd, announcing, "now for something very special". That was the understatement of the night! There were Twitter rumblings of a Liam Gallagher/ Chris Martin rendering of Live Forever, crediting Chris with convincing Liam. Hopes of Noel playing on Up and Up. The latter didn't happen, but, wait - there it was, right at 3:46:00, barely 15 minutes left in the show....was that...Chris and Jonny back on stage?? Jaw-droppingly, the trio dove into Live Forever, as speculated. Proving love trumps all, Gallagher shook Jonny's hand at the end, gave him a quick hug and did the same with Chris. Yes, it really happened.

"I want something just like THIS!" By all indication, the highly anticipated Kaleidoscope EP is shaping up to be worth the wait. Coldplay unveiled their latest track, 'All I Can Think About is You' in a surprise performance at the Tokyo Dome on April 19th. Chris also mentioned that the band recorded the Tokyo Dome show and will release it as a Live Album soon!

We got a hint of its hauntingly beautiful melody from Chris's soundcheck in Taipei, Taiwan on April 11th. Now the full version is generating comparisons to early Coldplay and Radiohead. Unleashing the bassline, drums, Johnny's standout solo, and Chris's piano, it nearly refuses to be typecast by era. Fans see traces of it across AROBTTH, Ghost Stories, X & Y and Viva eras with most comparing it to Atlas, Moving to Mars and Clocks.

A Shift in Direction?

What is certain is that All I Can Think About is You, signals the return of more traditional, melancholy Coldplay. Perhaps Will and Johnny foretold a shift in direction to their music in an interview with Dudesweet in Thailand. As translated by Coldplayer TH on Twitter, Guy speaks of their interest in "making music that has an acoustic sound to it and can be used for playing live". Guy contrasted that to Parachutes by saying "it (the music) might sound more simple and it won't have (a) pop sound[ing] to it." and "maybe we'll be trying something like this soon". So it is no reach to see why the Kaleidoscope lineup appears to take a sharp turn from A Head Full of Dreams.

If the live emergent tracks from Kaleidoscope, including the Coldplay-only version of Something Just Like This is an indication that future sound is already here. Now if only the soundcheck version of what appears to be ALIENS (with Brian Eno!) goes onstage soon, we may be seeing a new, more acoustic side of Coldplay that we haven't seen in a while. Most noteworthy is that fans hope what they hear live drums from Will come through on the studio EP, not drowned in synth. For those lucky enough to witness the first live performance of what appear destined to become new classics, June 2nd may come even sooner. It certainly did for those in the Toyko Dome on April 19th!

Dua Lipa Confirms Track Collaboration 'Homesick' with Chris Martin

The Chainsmokers have just released their brand new track 'Something Just Like This' as part of a collaboration with Coldplay!

Earlier today we broke the news fters one of our staff spotted a leaked announcement for the new single on Spotify. The banner showed a graphic of a boy alongside text announcing the new track.

You can listen to the track below:

https://open.spotify.com/track/1dNIEtp7AY3oDAKCGg2XkH

We originally found out about the collaboration last September when The Chainsmokers posted a video on Snapchat of Chris Martin in the studio with them. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the American DJ duo called it "one of the dopest songs we've ever written". Their first recording session was late at night because the Coldplay frontman "wanted to start after he put his kids to bed".

https://twitter.com/coldplaying/status/776012958262517760

Last week iHeartRadio announced the line-up for their 2017 music awards which included The Chainsmokers. ALT 98.7 also tweeted a graphic promoting Chris Martin's performance at the show but it was quickly deleted. Could we see a live performance of Something Just Like Us at the iHeartRadio Music Awards?

Coldplay are named Music Week's Artist Of The Year for 2016

Coldplay have been named Music Week’s Artist Of The Year for 2016.

Over the past 12 months, the band have won a BRIT Award, played to a combined audience of over 11.5 million at the Super Bowl and headlined Glastonbury for a record fourth time. Their tour in support of A Head Full Of Dreams, released in December 2015, grossed £108.4m from 29 shows in the first half of 2016.

Coldplay recently became the biggest band in the world on all-time streams when they passed five billion streams on Spotify. A Head Full Of Dreams has sold 976,205 copies to date, and is on course to become the group’s sixth million-selling record.

Speaking exclusively to Music Week, singer Chris Martin said: “We’re extremely grateful and very honoured and want to say thank you. I just feel very grateful. Really, the people I feel most happy for are Dave [Holmes] and Phil [Harvey], our managers, and Craig [Finley, production manager], because they slave away and I feel like something like this is a good thing for them to get so that we can all remind them how special they are.”

Drummer Will Champion added: “We're enjoying being in the band together so much still, which is wonderful. It's probably our greatest achievement that we're still happy and friends and beyond that we'll see what happens.

Harvey said: "We're absolutely delighted, it's amazing. It really does mean a lot actually. I remember when I was a college student coming down to London and popping into a newsagent when I was about 20. I bought myself a copy of Music Week to try and convince myself that I was part of the music industry and that we were going to make it, so it's really amazing to get this award now.”

Parlophone chairman Miles Leonard said: "We're very pleased you've chosen them, it’s great Music Week is giving them the support. It's been a stellar year for Coldplay in many ways. They still continue to deliver contemporary pop records and they're always looking to push themselves into areas that give them more colour and relevance. That they can still deliver an album with four or five big singles on is quite incredible."

ATTENTION COLLECTORS! To celebrate Barnes & Noble's Annual 'Vinyl Day', they have teamed up with Coldplay to repress their debut album Parachutes on a gorgeous orange record. This is without a doubt an excellent buy or gift for Coldplay Collectors alike![perfectpullquote align=right" cite="" link="" color="" class="" size="]An excellent buy or gift for Coldplay Collectors alike![/perfectpullquote]

[dropcap]Coldplay’s first album, released in 2000, was a quiet, introspective antidote to the huge, empty spectacles that dominated pop music that year, yet still made a big enough splash to enter the UK pop charts at #1. It has since gone platinum eight times over, and won the band a lot of fans who have stuck around in the years since. Fans of Jeff Buckley and Travis should definitely seek this record out—and if you’re one of those Radiohead fans who jumped off the bus when they went electronic, Parachutes is reminiscent of Radiohead’s earlier, alternative rock period, with lots of moody, atmospheric songs, shimmering guitars, and serene vocals.[/dropcap]

These past two weeks have been busy ones for Coldplay, as they continued their European leg of the A Head Full of Dreams Tour, making stops in the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and England, where they played a remarkable headlining set at Glastonbury Festival.

On June 23, the band played a show at the Amsterdam ArenA in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Before Coldplay played a second show in Amsterdam, Chris took to Twitter to express his thoughts about the UK’s decision to leave the EU, which had been decided the night before, in the midst of the band’s European leg of the tour. “As a band we love playing in and being a part of Europe. This decision does not represent us or indeed most of our generation and the generation following us,” Chris wrote. The audience’s Xylobands lit up in sync, confetti fell from the sky, and fireworks sparkled around the field as the show opened with a bright and colorful performance of “A Head Full of Dreams,” setting the uplifting tone for the rest of the night.

During “Everglow,” the band experienced some technical difficulties and Chris Martin played a beautiful solo rendition of the song, accompanied by a tribute to Muhammad Ali towards the end.

A highlight and unforgettable moment of the show included the band paying tribute to band Viola Beach, who died in a car crash earlier this year. Chris spoke about the late band, stating “We are going to create Viola Beach’s alternate future for them, and let them headline Glastonbury for a song,” before playing a rendition of “Boys That Sing” as a tribute. The gesture resulted in an outpour of love and support for the late band, as well as appreciation for Coldplay on Twitter. “This @coldplay Viola Beach moment is heartbreakingly stunning. As if that weren't enough of a show-stopping spectacle, the band later brought out legendary Bee Gees member Barry Gibb after Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis “requested” to see a performance of a Bee Gees song. Together, Barry Gibb and the band played a rendition of “To Love Somebody” as well as “Stayin Alive,” which was performed with the help of Davide Rossi on violin.

The band neared the end of the set with “A Sky Full of Stars” and “Up&Up,” for which Chris’s children came out on stage for. Chris announced that he didn’t want to stop playing, and asked Michael Eavis to join the band on stage for one last song. Together, they performed Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” before Coldplay closed the show with the words “believe in love” as fireworks erupted around them.

Glasto welcomes Coldplay into the hall of fame... Ash, Doves and, erm, Nelly Furtado come highly recommended

Chris Martin has grown in stature before NME's eyes, from nervous curly-coiffured shyboy to sharp-suited sex totem in the time it takes most acts to record an album. Grinning and purposeful, he commands the stage as though he was born there. Unveiling tracks from new album, 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' something strange occurs. We love 'Yellow' and 'Shiver' but get this – the new songs are better. Not slightly or a notch above but full-blown gobsmackingly, nerve-strokingly astonishing.

Show opener 'Politik' shaped around an unrelenting snare drum dazzles with a sophistication and heartfulness that makes previous smash singles seen almost limp by comparison, while 'The Scientist' drips beauty from every chord. However, 'Yellow' stands its ground touching even the hardest-hearted cynical hack.

As fireworks fade into the star-filled sky, Chris Martin must surely know that the job is done - Coldplay join the small elite of headlining acts - including Pulp and Radiohead - who effortlessly fill an entire field with the seductive appearance of utter intimacy.

is the pure distillation of festival chic, hippy chick. If she didn't exist, The Face would have invented her for a themed novelty photoshoot. Big on charisma - and in normal circumstances medium to petit on tunes – she wowed every kind of festival-goer from leery beerboy to the disturbing number of, well, ramblers on site with tunes which soundtracked the sunshine adroitly.

Jimi Goodwin is overcome. The sun is beating down, the crowd have just burst into an impromptu singalong to 'Here It Comes' and Jimi is utterly overcome. "Are we doing okay Glasto?" he beams. "I don't know what to say!" The tunes speak for him, though. Blissfully laidback as ever but now with enough backbone to be termed anthems, new single 'Pounding' and 'There Goes The Fear' make Bush one of the weekend's highlights before the sun's even gone down on Friday. Stunning stuff.

Alabama 3, the nation's favourite mobile phone salesmen, battle gamely against sound problems (a trumpet-augmented 'Heroin Is So Passe' sounds particularly flatulent) and the fact that they're playing at the same time as the crowd-friendly and that's with the emphasis on vague, as Gavin Rossdale's diet grunge was never going to sit easily at Glasto. Material from current album, 'Golden State' might possess a promising demonic swagger but on this stage it's all about the hits and 'Swallow' gives the people what they want. Their closing muscular jolt through REM's 'One I Love' sounds like an admission of defeat.

[a][/a] are perfect for the vaguely ridiculous summer loving going down today. They kick off swaggering through 'Woke Up This Morning' and 'Cocaine Killed My Community' sees the Brixton collective rock like champions. This deep fried Americana might be as authentic as Bjorn Again but it's tremendous fun.

The 40-strong Shibusashirazu Orchestra kick off the morning with a riot of experimental Manga funk, pink people waving pom-poms and a man jutting his lunchbox into the crowd is a perfect Glasto spectacle but we're still talking about performance jazz. They return to their natural habitat, the Jazz World stage tonight at 8pm.

Q. hi dear oracle!!

long time ago--it`s really long-- i was watching a chapter of "storytellers" at VH1 and Coldplay was there, telling stories of course!, and the said something about a concert where they were playing Clocks -i think- and suddenly a really enormous laser appeared behind them!...could you ask the guys where and when it was?i think it was at Glastonburry but i'm not sure...and could you please tell me if they have any video of that?and if they do,can they post it at the timeline,please??--as a big favor!!--cause i've looking for it since then.

PS:sorry if i commit any grammatical mistake...it's because i'm latin :9

The Oracle replies:

It was indeed Glastonbury 2002 when they headlined the Pyramid Stage on the Friday. The album (A Rush of Blood to the Head) hadn't been released at this point. The band had just completed a mini tour of the UK but they were all small venues with limited lights etc so the green laser had to make its debut at Glasto. The BBC televised it and therefore they own the copyright to that footage. There are various videos on the web (at You Tube etc) where you can see it.

Listen Live to Coldplay's Concert in Mexico Tonight!

While Spotify has always had the essential Coldplay anthems, it has been missing some unappreciated gems such as Gravity and Moving to Mars. Today they have added the remaining singles and EP's on their discography!

Every Teardrop is a Waterfall EP

Several singles and EP's were missing from Spotify especially those from the X&Y-Era. The Every Teardrop is a Waterfall EP has been added which contains the Single Version of Major Minus and of course Every Teardrop, but the EP also contains quite an under appreciated song called Moving To Mars!

Moving to Mars was only played once at the iTunes Festival on Friday 22nd July 2011. Before performing the song, Chris said "We're gonna play a new song. And depending on the next five minutes, we might never play it anywhere else"

Viva La Vida

The Viva La Vida single was also released on Spotify which has a b-side called Death Will Never Conquer.

While the song was left off of the album, it was given away as a free download on July 14 on coldplay.com to mark the beginning of the Viva La Vida Tour and eventually featured as the B-side to the Viva La Vida CD single.

The song was also a regular part of the tour’s setlist alongside other album songs, where drummer Will Champion takes a rare lead vocal. This is a live-only feature, as Chris Martin sings vocals as normal in the released studio version of the song. It is a very short country song on acoustic piano.

Violet Hill

Violet Hill was released alongside a strange b-side named A Spell A Rebel Yell.

The song, along with many others, didn’t make it onto the album. It was instead released as the b-side to a 7″ vinyl limited edition single release of Violet Hill, free with NME magazine on May 7th 2008.

The song got its debut radio play on Zane Lowe’s show on BBC Radio One on 6th May 2008, shortly after 7pm BST. It is often likened to the shoegazing genre and comes across as a very experimental track.

The Hardest Part

The popular download single, The Hardest Part was also released with b-side How You See The World!

How You See the World was a B-side to The Hardest Part and also What If. Both were Live at Earl’s Court. The song was released with the Japanese version of X&Y on a bonus disc!

Talk

Famous track Talk was released as a radio edit for streaming today with b-sides Sleeping Sun and Gravity. The latter being a favourite among Coldplay super-fans!

A solo version of Gravity originally debuted by Chris Martin at the end of one of the bands American tour dates in 2003. A version soon found its way onto the internet and became incredibly sought after by many fans. It came as a shock to many fans when Chris announced that he had given the song to the band, Embrace to record, as many had expected it to feature on the next Coldplay album.

It was a hit for Embrace and gave the band new life as they re-found commercial and critical success, after being out in the cold since the late 1990’s. Coldplay recorded a full band version for the Talk single and it was quite different, in style, from the Embrace one. It was slower and had a more haunting feel than the Embrace version which was fairly quick and shiny designed to make it more radio friendly. Unsurprisingly, most Coldplay fans prefer the Coldplay version.

Fix You

Finally the Fix You single was released with the main track being a shortened "Video-Edit". The single contains b-sides The World Turned Upside Down and Pour Me.

The World Turned Upside Down is notorious amongst Coldplay staff and fans. When the Coldplay Oracle was writing the Lyrics for the Coldplay.com website, she became stuck on a single lyric within the song.

"I’ll let you into a secret… it was actually yours truly (me) who was listening to the songs and writing the lyrics back at that time. I sent The World Turned Upside Down – looking much like it does in your question – to Phil as I couldn’t decipher what Chris was saying.

Both he & Chris struggled to work it out too so we just left it as is.

Quite frankly if Chris doesn’t know what he’s singing, there’s not much hope for the rest of us!"

The lyric still remains blank on Coldplay.com today!

Pour Me was performed throughout Coldplay's A Rush of Blood To The Head tour but was only released during the X&Y-Era. Having first been played in January of 2003, the band played it throughout the year. It was not until May/June when they performed it at the Hollywood Bowl and recorded it for the Fix You single!

As the song had been heard live long before there was a recorded version, people had assumed it was Poor Me. It wasn’t until it appeared as a b-side on Fix You that everyone could see the title was in fact Pour Me.

Coldplay Hit the Ground Running on their 'A Head Full of Dreams' Tour with 4 South American Dates

Coldplay are officially back! And they're doing what they do best: rocking out in packed arenas and stadiums. What better place to start then in the Coldplay-mad continent of South America; a double date in Argentina, followed by shows in Chile and Peru.

It was a long time coming for some of our loyal fans down south. When the Mylo Xylotour was suddenly canceled, it brought frustrations to some of Coldplay's most diehard fans. But our southern friends were promised something special when a tour starts up again, and they got it with the exclusive live debut of many soon-to-be classics such as "Birds" and "Army of One" and the return of fan favourites like "Politik", "Green Eyes" and "Speed of Sound".

A Coldplay gig is known to be the hottest ticket in town. And these first few have been no exception. The band bring back the lasers in "Clocks", the intimate B-Stage visit and we also see the return of the Xylobands!

But they also learned a few new tricks for this tour including holi paint inspired explosion during the opening song, a spontaneous rave initiated by a new remix of Paradise and a socially interactive segment where fans can submit their requests.

The requests have been sent to the band's Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts and played during the set. So far we have seen the return of the band's hits like "Shiver" or "Don't Panic" (assisted vocally by Jonny!).

As the shows add up, we are getting more and more footage from our friendly neighbours. Hours of footage have been appearing on Youtube, beautiful Instagram pics, and live Periscopes from generous fans. It also appears that some shows are being recorded in ways never done before.

Next up on the flight list is a trip to Brazil followed by one show in Colombia and a trio of gigs in Mexico. Afterwards, the band will jump the pond and start the European leg of the tour. But who knows, perhaps Coldplay will show up again very soon. Check out Coldplaying.com for the latest in tour dates and all Coldplay concert info!
