19-year-old soul star Adele will pick up the Critics' Choice gong at Wednesday's ceremony, and will also perform Coldplay's 'God Put A Smile On Your Face' with Mark Ronson.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, airs on ITV1 at 8pm on Wednesday. "It'll be so good if Amy Winehouse comes and does 'Valerie' with him too," Adele [pictured] told the Daily Star. "I loved her Grammy performance. I was thinking how nerve-wracking that must have been for her doing it via satellite. I didn't think she had a lot to prove but some people did.

"She was incredible. She looks a lot better now too now she's put on weight. I've met her a couple of times and think she's lovely. I'm quite tall but she's so tiny. It's been a big year for her, so it would put everyone in their place if she joins us at the BRITs."

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are considering adopting an orphan from the actress' hometown of New York.

Amid reports the Oscar winner is pregnant with the couple's third child, Paltrow insists she's eager to follow in the footsteps of pal Madonna and adopt. She tells the New York Daily News, "We might get one from Brooklyn. No baby is more helpless than another baby. And I'm a New York girl."

Paltrow also plays down her recent hospitalization for a "gastrointestinal situation" insisting she is fully recovered. She adds, "I feel great -- people made a big deal about nothing."

12 September 2000 - Mercury Awards

We were nominated for the Mercury Award for 'Parachutes'. Among the other nominees were Richard Ashcroft, Doves, Leftfield, and Badly Drawn Boy who eventually won it. It was our first awards ceremony and we had to play in front of all the other bands without Jonny who was ill. Musicians make for a very tough audience, especially drunk musicians.

Glastonbury 1999, New Bands Tent

Our tour manager, Jeff Dray, dropped us off at the wrong site entrance 10 minutes before we were due on stage.

Although the 2 mile run banished our first Glastonbury nerves, I did get a cramp halfway through the set.

It's been right in front of us for ages.

As was previously reported, Coldplay plates that were available for sale and which matched the charity mug previously sold contains a year-old hidden message regarding LP4.

An eagle-eyed coldplayer has spotted the message in the Coldplay charity plate advertised last year on Coldplaying.com (see images below) which says "Jonny's Solo On 42"... 42 is a track expected to included on Coldplay's fourth album and was one of the songs originally listed on Coldplay's tracklisting via Prospekt. The new album is also expected to be 42 minutes long.

Contrary to reports and rumours, Coldplay's forthcoming album will not be called 'Prospekt', XFM report. Instead, it'll be called...

Actually, your guess is as good as ours because Coldplay are remaining tight-lipped over what their fourth album will be named. What we do know is that the follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' is just a month away from completion.

In new posting on their website, Coldplay have denied that the new album is called 'Prospekt' but are refusing to reveal what the title will actually be. On a more positive note, the band has described recent sessions as "the most productive and exciting week we've ever had in the studio. Mixing has been slow and painstaking but that's just the nature of the beast. So...give us another month or so and we might just have an album worthy of your patience."

News that Coldplay's Brian Eno-produced album is due for release in May will undoubtedly be greeted with joy as much by fans as EMI shareholders.

The winner of a Radio One songwriting competition will play in Whitehaven this month. The Little White Lies won the contest organised by breakfast show DJ Chris Moyles and judged by Coldplay's Chris Martin, who described them as an ‘exceptional talent’.

The four-piece band from Liverpool has performed with The Hoosiers, Scouting for Girls and Wheatus. Now they will share the stage at the Marchon Theatre with local acts GO, Luke Telford, Mazzoni's Mike Proud and Reay Mckew, Barrow band The Irie and DJ Mark Carrol.

Whitehaven women Stacey Gribbin and Natasha Brigg are putting on the indie night Dance to the Radio to try to make a difference to west Cumbria’s music scene. Stacey said: “ Our first event, which took place last November, was a tremendous success – we managed to pull in a crowd of over 400.”Dance to the Radio, an 18+ event, will be held in the Marchon Club, Whitehaven on February 15. Tickets, priced £5 in advance or £6 on the door, are available now from the Rum Story on Lowther Street.

Coldplay are 'weeks away' from finishing LP4

Coldplay are close to finishing their fourth studio album - and denied reports about what the record will be called, NME have today confirmed.

The foursome revealed they have pretty much finished the highly anticipated LP, apparently due out May 19, and are in the final mixing stages. Writing on their blog the band explained: "Mixing has been slow and painstaking but that's just the nature of the beast. So... give us another month or so and we might just have an album worthy of your patience."

They revealed the names of two tracks recorded before Christmas – 'Lovers In Japan' and 'Strawberry Swing' - and also clarified that, despite reports stating otherwise, their new album will not be called 'Prospekt'.

They have yet say what the follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' will be titled.

Coldplay were twice featured on Jimmy Kimmel's 5th Anniversary show in a live outside broadcast, which was televised on the 31st January.

They showed old clips of their performances from 26th January 2003 of Yellow and Clocks.

Back home for a few days. A brief rest before the final push.

Another four or five weeks and we should be home and dry: another ten mixes + re-recording one of the songs from scratch. In times gone by I would have set aside a month to re-record a track. However, the week before Christmas, we recorded two tracks in four days - Lovers In Japan and Strawberry Swing. On the fifth day (Friday), Chris put down new lyrics (and new melodies) on two other tracks. It was far and away the most productive and exciting week we've ever had in the studio. I was buzzing all through Christmas.

Since then, mixing has been slow and painstaking but that's just the nature of the beast. So... give us another month or so and we might just have an album worthy of your patience.

Prospekt.

Bottling at WHFS - 28 May 2001

We had only been in America for a few days and we were playing these massive radio festivals.

Most of the crowd were there for Aerosmith, Staind and Korn so they weren't so into the Coldplay thing and we spent most of our 15 minutes on stage in Washington avoiding bottles and CDs and other well aimed missiles.

In response to someone named Travis on Coldplay's official Facebook page that referred to the album as Prospekt, Debs Wild, Coldplay's online editor reports that:

"...the album will NOT be called Prospekt. The name did initially have relevance to the album, but not anymore. It's a pseudonym, if you will, of the person who writes the studio journals."

In 2007, content found on Coldplay's new site hinted that the new album title may be Prospekt. The site also included notes on sessions with Eno and Markus Dravs, stating that the lyrics are "much more abstract, much more visual than before," and that the music is "less straight-forward, more oblique."

Beth Ditto and Coldplay had to fit in around each other at Air Studios in London's Hampstead after both wanted to use the same room, it has been revealed by The Mirror.

As of yet, no official release date has been set for Coldplay's fourth album. However, according to the February 2008 issue of Q Magazine, the album is slated for release in either May or June of 2008. In addition, several online retail websites have begun listing the new album with a May release date. It has been quoted as "the album people will remember them by" as well as a concise record "with at least two top-division songs being released independently.

On December 6, a post appeared on Coldplay.com suggesting that although the album is nearly finished recording, 'the creative momentum keeps on gathering', with the article also mentioning the band are down to the last few songs and suggesting the title of a new song, 'Lost'. The article was signed 'Prospekt', strengthing rumours that the forthcoming album will be titled Prospekt.

Songwriting superhero Ryan Adams is fond of telling the music press lately that he plans on making the Cardinals' current line-up his permanent band and he's even uncomfortable still being called a solo artist. But last night at the Marin Center in San Rafael, Calif., all eyes were clearly on him as he "led" the Cardinals through two sets of original material, before kicking off the encore with a solo piano version of 'Sylvia Plath.'

Still, Adams refused to be seen in the spotlight -- quite literally. The musicians were all backlit and shrouded in an ever-changing mosaic of mood lighting. When a heckling fan complained that she couldn't see Adams' face, he held up a lighter and suggested she "go see Coldplay" instead.

She stayed. It was the right decision. The Cardinals "featuring Ryan Adams" jammed out, slaying song after song like one unified beast of rock 'n' roll.

Yeah, keep them, Ryan.

Michael Eavis has ruled out four massive acts who were previously rumoured to headline Glastonbury Festival 2008. But confirmed one of them for V!

Glasto favourites Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay will definitely NOT play this year's event, according to the 72-year-old farmer. But he confirmed they were invited to play and insisted that they will be back at Worthy Farm in years to come.

He told VF during an exclusive interview: "When it suits them they’ll come and do it and if it doesn’t happen they’ll do something else. We can call on old friends, like Coldplay, but they’ve all done it so many times that it’s not fair for me to expect them to do it over and over again."

When asked about Muse, Eavis answered: "No because they’re doing the V’s [V Festival] aren’t they? They can’t do both really, it doesn’t really work doing both."

He also confirmed that Led Zeppelin were unsuccessfully approached for Glastonbury, but denied rumours the reformed rockers demanded too much money.

He said: "The money didn’t come into it, but the fact that Robert Plant is going to America with Alison Krauss during that period means that they are not available. It was nothing to do with money whatsoever.”

This was our first TV appearance I think. I don't believe you can ever comprehend that what you do in a small studio with a few people can be seen by so many 'viewers'. Terrifying!

Gary Brooker came on after us and played 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale' and we felt totally insignificant. Great song that.

Muse and The Verve will headline this year's V Festival, according to reports. The two bands will head up the main stage while The Prodigy and Kaiser Chiefs top the bill on the second stage, reports Drownedinsound.com.

But VF has heard whispers that Coldplay could be lined up for a shock headline performance at V Festival, which could mean the band sharing headline duties, as has been done in the past.The Verve have just been confirmed to headline Coachella in California and are also being tipped to play Glastonbury, as are Muse.

Coldplay have played down any suggestions they will be performing live this summer but a big money deal could persuade them.

Other acts rumoured for V Festival include Goldfrapp, Maximo Park, Duffy, The Dead 60s, Adele, The View, The Twang and Pigeon Detectives. Confirmed line up news and ticket sales will be announced in late February or early March. V Festival takes place at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, and Weston Park, Staffs, on 16-17 August.

This is a great American festival. We enjoyed watching Franz Ferdinand and The Arcade Fire. The temperature was unbelievably hot during the day and didn't cool down much for our performance.
