Pink Floyd is the band most people want to see reunite - and the Spice Girls the group they want to split, according to a new poll. A survey of music fans across Europe also called for Westlife and Girls Aloud to call it a day.

The poll results are bad news for Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty and Ginger Spice, who although not back together indefinitely are about to embark on a one-off worldwide reunion tour. After Pink Floyd, music fans said they wanted Swedish stars Abba and US rockers Guns N' Roses to reform.

The Jam, fronted by Paul Weller, came next in fourth place, followed by US group Talking Heads, and the Fugees. Hard rock Californian group Van Halen was seventh, followed by George Michael's Wham!, New Romantics Spandau Ballet, and Boyzone in the survey by digital music provider Music Choice.

The poll of 5,000 music fans put Oasis in fourth place in the list of groups who should split, followed by veteran rockers The Rolling Stones. The Black Eyed Peas were sixth, one place before homegrown stars Coldplay.

Andrew Jeffries, worldwide director of music and programming for Music Choice, said: "When Led Zeppelin announced their gig we wanted to see just who else would be a smash hit in Europe, so we turned to music fans to find out.

"Although we knew Pink Floyd might be a contender, we never dreamed they'd be the top choice and we were amazed that so many fans wanted to say 'goodbye' to Posh and co."

This is the album I always dreamed they would make. It's the sound of a band realizing their own strength. The sound of four men with total confidence in themselves and one another.

Alt rockers Coldplay announced eight song titles from their upcoming album via their website recently. Songs from that record will be "Lost", "Cemeteries Of London", "Violet Hill", "Poppy Fields", "42", "Yes!", "Leftrightleftrightleft" and "Rainy Day". No release date has been set for the album, but it's expected some time in 2008.

According to the band's post, "Expect a short, concise record with no fat and at least two top-division songs released independently...We're still a few months from finishing but already the arguments about track listing have begun." Recorded in Barcelona, the album is said to be "infused [with] the sights, sounds and flavors of Latin America and Spain...The music and lyrics have begun to reflect the strengthening Hispanic theme...No maracas or castanets, but a vibrancy and colorfulness that owes much to the atmosphere of Buenos Aires and Barcelona."

The album will be the follow-up to 2005's #1 hit X&Y.

Hey, Coldplay, what do you know. News of track titles is hardly exciting to anyone but hardcore fans, but it's nice to know this band is still plugging away. Coldplay has earned enough cred to coast and still go platinum for a few more years, so expect these songs to feature piano and hushed lyrics and all that typical shit and expect it to debut at #1. Not that I hate Coldplay, I just don't like people who write on their pianos. And speaking of Chris Martin, does anybody else find it weird he's on the new albums by Jay-Z, Nelly Furtado, Swizz Beats and Kanye West? How the hell did this falsetto singing Brit get hip-hop street cred?

“ICONS OF MUSIC” AUCTION BENEFITING MUSIC RISING - 26.03.2007

New York, NY (March 26, 2007) — U2’s The Edge announced the Icons of Music Auction to benefit Music Rising on Saturday April 21st 2007 at Hard Rock Cafe New York in Times Square at 5pm.. The auction event will offer one of the most significant collections of music memorabilia from many of music’s greatest legends with proceeds benefiting Music Rising (www.musicrising.org), a campaign co-founded by The Edge, producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz in 2005 to aid musicians of the Gulf Coast Region in regaining their livelihood after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The live and online auction, hosted by Julien’s Auctions (www.juliensauctions.com), will be offering approximately 200 pieces of music memorabilia, much of which has been specifically donated for this cause.

Amongst the donations from The Edge is his 1975 Cream Gibson Les Paul (est. $60,000-80,000), an instrument highly significant to his career and U2. “I wanted that Steve Jones ‘Never Mind The Bollox’ sound, so I got the same guitar right down to the color. I never could get that sound, but I found a bunch of songs in this instrument, and have used it extensively ever since, on tour and in the studio,” said The Edge.

Included in the unprecedented collection of auction offerings will be John Lennon worn sunglasses (est. $4,000-6,000), Janis Joplin seven-page handwritten love letter to her boyfriend (est. $1,000-2,000), Jimi Hendrix guitar (est. $60,000-80,000), Bruce Springsteen hand written lyrics (est. $2,000-4,000), Elvis Presley early recording contract (est. $3,000-5,000) Kurt Cobain’s MTV Video Music Award for Nirvana (est. $4,000-6,000), Paul McCartney hand-painted Epiphone Texan Guitar (est. $6,000-8,000), President Bill Clinton signed saxophone personalized to winning bidder (est. $2,000-4000) and a Rolling Stones’ signed Gibson Les Paul Music Rising Guitar (est. $20,000-30,000). U2 highlights donated by band members to support Music Rising include a pair of Emporia Armani (Project Red) concert-worn sunglasses (est. $2,000-4,000) donated by Bono, a Tom Tom drum (est. $8,000-10,000) donated by Larry Mullen and a concert and studio-played bass guitar (est. $20,000-30,000) donated by Adam Clayton. The ongoing efforts of Music Rising have thus far aided over 2,400 professional musicians and over 20,000 students and parishioners. After Music Rising received a Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund grant, former President Bill Clinton personally presented a Music Rising Gibson Les Paul to a recipient in Baton Rouge, LA in 2006.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has delighted his army of fans by confirming he is to write a song all about tits.

The internet has been buzzing with rumours of a Coldplay tits anthem after Martin’s brief holiday with David Coverdale from Whitesnake. Seasoned Coldplay observers were last night speculating on the lyrical content of the new song.

Jeremiah Johnson, Coldplay editor of the Sunday Telegraph, said: “He’ll probably call it ‘Tits’ or, if he’s feeling playful, ‘Titties’. There is absolutely no chance that he would call it ‘Knockers’. That’s just not Chris Martin.”

But Roy Hobbs, the Daily Mail’s Coldplay editor, insisted: “I think it will be called ‘Breasts’ or maybe even ‘Gazongas’ with a really uplifting chorus about how, in Chris’s opinion, tits are fantastic.”

Martin is determined to answer critics who said he could never fulfill his potential as a musician until he had penned at least one classic song about tits. Expectations were high that X&Y, the band’s all-conquering 2005 release, would be largely about tits, but instead it was about feeling awkward and unhappy about a diverse range of issues.

We had had a nightmare tour of Australia in 2003, and so we were nervous about this one. But it heeled (sp) all the wounds – amazing audiences and places and people. The last concert, in Perth, was followed by the weirdest tea drinking experience that Jonny & I ever had. But its too long of a story …… CM

Trip to Ghana: March 2005

Before X&Y came out we went to Ghana to revise for the Fairtrade campaign that we wanted to promote. Apart from our plane nearly crashing, it was pretty incredible. In the same way as when we went to Haiti in 2002, it was both inspiring and terrifying. We met a lot of cool people, and saw what a difference fairtrade can make. CM

We asked our friend Mat Whitecross to do a video for us. Originally he wrote the treatment for Spies, but when we changed it to Bigger Stronger it was too late. Mat is now a very famous film maker (Road to Guantanemo) and needless to say, his work has got much better!

BBC Radio has signed a deal to put the In Concert series on mobile via spodtronic (previously Spodradio)—it features over 1,000 exclusive concerts from bands including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, AC/DC, Coldplay, Muse, Chemical Brothers and Avril Lavigne.

Liquid Air Lab will launch the spodtronic live radio service, aiming for an exclusive carrier partner in each of 20 continental European countries (the UK isn’t included) and then plans to cross the pond into Canada and the USA. Chris and I went busking in Covent Garden. It was probably the first incarnation of the band. We played Beatles songs and 'The Bear Necessities' and 'Mrs. Robinson'. We were moved on by the police (with only 20p in the hat) (which I put there).

Coldplay have revealed the first details of their new album including a number of songs up for consideration for the final track listing.

Writing on their official blog the band announced that they had just returned to the studio after a month off. They wrote: “The plan has always been to make a short record. No more than 42 minutes. 9 songs (give or take).”

The songs which might make it to the final cut include ‘Lost!’, ‘Cemeteries Of London’, ‘Violet Hill’. ‘Poppy Fields’, ‘42’, ‘Yes!’, Leftrightleftrightleft’ and ‘Rainy Day’. The blog also stated that fans can expect two songs that won’t feature on the album to be released “independently” as well.

All back in the same room after a month off. I’ve missed the buzz. We’re still a few months from finishing, but already the arguments about tracklisting have begun. The plan has always been to make a short record. No more than 42 minutes, 9 songs (give or take) selected from the following:

To use a tired analogy, it’s like picking a football team. It’s not simply about individual talent, but overall cohesion and combined effectiveness.The bigger picture. An album that you can listen to from start to finish. The danger of this is that great songs may get left off the album because they don’t “fit”.

I have to confess that, as a confirmed non-musician, this approach slightly worries me. My feeling is that the album should be made up of the nine best recordings. If that means eight thrash metal tracks and one ballad then so be it. However that’s not the way the band see it and I have to respect their integrity.

Expect a short, concise record, with no fat and at least two top-division songs released independently.

As previously reported, Chris Martin and Missy Elliot will reportedly join Nelly Furtado in her VMA performance next month.

Nelly Furtado will kick off her performance with All Good Things (Come to an End) and Chris Martin will enter to sing the second part with her, then Chris leaves and she starts singing 'Do It' with Missy Elliot.

The 24th annual VMAs will air live from the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas tomorrow [sunday 9th Sept], with Timbaland as “maestro,” in charge of creating several “show-stopping and unexpected artist collaborations.” Lil’ Wayne, T-Pain, Cee-Lo and Daniel Merriweather have also been added to the lineup of performers, MTV said Monday in a statement. Presenters and additional performers will be announced at a later date.

Furtado, who sizzled up the charts last year with her comeback song, “Promiscuous,” is nominated for female artist of the year, along with Winehouse, Beyonce, Fergie and Rihanna.

Let’s hope the new Coldplay album sounds better than frontman Chris Martin looks at the moment, report The Sun. The singer was snapped out strolling in London looking a bit, well, dishevelled. In fact, they reckon his resemblance to shaggy Seventies crooner Kevin Godley in his 10CC days is more uncanny by the day.

The Sun also comments that Chris’s stylish missus, Gwyneth Paltrow, needs to sort out his wardrobe – fast.

Which is why almost five years ago, the idea of Kanye West being a Grammy-winning rap and hip-hop artist is almost amusing. “It was a strike against me that I didn’t wear baggy jeans and jerseys and that I never hustled, never sold drugs,” West, who grew up in a middle class Chicago neighborhood, has griped.

In 2002, after producing for artists such as Mase, Cam’ron and Jay-Z he approached Roc-A-Fella records then CEO Damon Dash about launching a solo career and was met with silence.“Kanye wore a pink shirt with the collar sticking up and Gucci loafers,” recalls Damon Dash. “It was obvious we were not from the same place or cut from the same cloth.”
