Recently, they've also posted Prospekt's latest diary entry, giving the very latest update on the recording of Coldplay's fourth album (it's made the news around the world, so it must be interesting!). Plus, they've also just added an entry about Coldplay's tour supporting Muse in 2000.

‘Thank you everyone for waiting for us’ are Chris Martin’s first words to the already fired-up Nokia Isle of Wight Festival revellers. Clearly, most people are actually here to see this English world-wide sensation anyway. But Chris and the other members in Coldplay don’t care. They know where they’re from and they also know who got them where they are right now; at the pinnacle of musical superstardom.

There’s no big fuss. Coldplay take to the stage, the audience is ready – flags bearing the band’s latest album’s title, ‘X&Y’ are being held up and pig and horse shaped balloons floating are off into the near night sky. And the odd inflatable ‘air guitar’, too. If you can spot a pair of available shoulders, now is the time to claim them and salute the boys on stage.

Despite the blistering sunshine, the mood of the audience remained friendly throughout and there was very little trouble, said IW police chief Ch Supt Stephanie Morgan. Over the festival there were 27 arrests, 13 for drug offences, three for minor assaults, five for public order offences, four for theft and two for being drunk and disorderly. There were 358 drug searches, a ten per cent increase on 2005. Of those searches, 159 found drugs. Eight people have been charged with possession with intent to supply, 75 were charged with possession of class A drugs and 76 with possession of cannabis. Police said the value of seized drugs was £34,000. There were 125 reported thefts from the camp site.

The festival proved a success for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Staff sold around 4,000 sunflowers on site, raising £11,000. Among people to buy one of the £3 flowers was Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland.

Media outlets have reported that UK band Coldplay have scrapped their entire upcoming album due to lack of inspiration and in-fighting - however, the reports fail to tell the whole story.

A posting made by band insider, Prospekt, on Coldplay's official website has been selectively edited by some media outlets, with quotes manipulated to imply that the band members were arguing due to tension over the recording sessions.

The correct quote, as posted on their website on June 29, states:

"One aspect of the recording process that I'll never get used to is tension. Tension is an inherent part of recording. Without tension, there's no focus. Without focus, the work becomes shoddy and ineffectual.

Tension means that people actually give a shit.

I myself am not very good at dealing with tension. That's why I only spend short periods of time in the studio. I dip in and out. I'm too thin-skinned to thrive in the studio atmosphere. If you place six strong-willed men in a small room for ten months, working ten to twelve hour days on something they all care about passionately, friction is inevitable."

What is remarkable is that this friction very rarely ignites into flame. The key is communication. On Monday we had a five-hour meeting. We discussed our approach, our methods, our timetable, our goals and pretty much anything else that came into our heads.

Brian drew a list of all 25 pieces of music that have been worked on during this session. The four band members, Brian, Markus and I all shared our thoughts on each and every track: how close it was to completion, what needed to be added, what needed to be removed or replaced, what sounded new and exciting, what sounded tired and old.

The meeting was a ruthless dissection of all the work done so far. Markus was particularly brutal (as usual). Very little material got an unreserved thumbs up from everyone. However, far from feeling dispirited, we all came out feeling a lot more confident.

It feels a lot better to check the map and know which direction you're headed and how far you've got to go rather than wander around aimlessly and hope for the best."

Coldplay have just returned from Spain where they've been recording vocals for their new songs with a new album expected before Christmas.

Chris Martin and co talk about their new songs

Coldplay have revealed that their new album, currently being recorded by the band in Barcelona, has a "Hispanic theme". Writing on their website blog, the band sent an update from their sessions which have moved from inital recordings in London to Spain.

"The sights, sounds and flavours of Latin America and Spain have definitely been infused on this album. The band visited Argnentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico earlier this year," they explained. "Chris [Martin] then came up with the idea of recording in Spain. The music and lyrics have begun to reflect the strengthening Hispanic theme."

The band went on to explain that despite the Hispanic theme, there wouldn't be any carnival-style instruments on the album. "No maracas or castanets," they wrote, "but a vibrancy and colourfulness that owes much to the atmosphere of Buenos Aires and Barcelona".

The follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' is expected sometime in 2008.

Since 2002 Coldplay have been global ambassadors for the Make Trade Fair campaign and one of Oxfam's biggest supporters.

They have helped Oxfam to campaign at their concerts all over the world and continued to support the campaign as as they rose to worldwide fame.

Chris Martin and other members of the band have traveled to Mexico, Ghana, and Haiti to meet farmers and see how unfair trade rules affect those in developing countries. The band also traveled to Cancun, Mexico to lobby world leaders at the 2003 World Trade Organization Summit.

Since 2002 Coldplay have been global ambassadors for the Make Trade Fair campaign and one of Oxfam's biggest supporters. An official survey showed that 84% of 18-24 year old British people know about Oxfam's campaigning work because of Coldplay. Oxfam would like to give a huge thank you to the band for the consistently amazing support they have given to Oxfam's work over the years.

We've been travelling light - an acoustic guitar, a couple of mics, a laptop and some headphones. We're recording in Barcelona - moving from church to church, setting up where we can: in front of the altar, under the pulpit. We've been playing at the feet of archangels. It's an odd scene: a host of saints look down impassively upon four unkept band members, circled around a single mic stand - singing loudly together as recorded guitars reverberate around the church.

They're laying down backing vocals. Brian often joints them: group - singing is one of his great joys. Markus operates the recording and playback on his computer, asking for countless takes until he is finally satisfied.

Coldplay only catapulted to superstardom because of Scottish band Travis' groundwork, their frontman claims.

Fran Healy is adamant his group's hit 1999 album The Man Who helped forge a demand for similar music. He says, "(We) created a playing pitch for bands like Coldplay and the other dozens of groups who came after The Man Who to sell not just hundreds and thousands of records, but millions of records."

But Healy's rant didn't end there as he launched a scathing tirade against politicians, insisting they're forced into the career because they have no other talent. The Scottish rocker maintains lawmakers are inspired by fame rather than a real passion for making the world a better place.

He says, "Politics is guys who couldn't be in pop bands and trying to be famous for something.

"They couldn't play football, they couldn't box and couldn't write songs, so what were they going to do? They thought: 'I'll get a suit and talk b**locks. I don't even have to write my speeches, I'll get someone else to write them for me.'"

This week's classic Coldplay clip is Speed of Sound (Around the World), featuring performances from Toronto 2006, Toronto 2005, Glastonbury 2005, MTV Live Leak, MTV Live Day and Amsterdam 2005.

"Speed of Sound" was infamously beaten to the number one spot on the UK Singles Chart by the novelty song "Axel F" by the Crazy Frog. During their performance of "Speed of Sound" at the 2005 Glastonbury Festival, Chris asked "Crazy Frog, where are you now?". However, it became Coldplay's first UK Download #1. It also became Coldplay's first and biggest single to chart in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #8, making it arguably Coldplay's most successful single.

The video promo for "Speed of Sound" was shot on a Los Angeles sound stage over 22–23 April 2005. Shooting took place on large sets backed by large LED displays. The performance based video was helmed by Mark Romanek, who was responsible for Johnny Cash's "Hurt" and Jay-Z's "99 Problems". The video earned 4 nominations at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards.

"Speed of Sound" was the billionth download from iTunes.

Singer Chris Martin's 2003 appearance in a slasher film will finally see the light of day on file sharing site YouTube. The Coldplay frontman stars in horror film Slashed, which was made by Northern Irish rockers Ash.

Martin appeared in the movie while touring with Ash, but the film has never been released.

However, Ash bassist Mark Hamilton says, "I'll put it on YouTube. I think people should be quite interested to see a video of Chris Martin getting murdered!"

Last week Miss Lavigne dropped by Jo Whiley's Live Lounge and delivered a song that sounds suspiciously like Coldplay's "The Scientist"!

In Avril's hands, one of Coldplay's best ballads is rendered truly tepid, and dare we say ... a little pitchy? Perhaps we're just partial to Aimee Mann's take.

We're not anti-Avril, but between this and her mawkish take on "Imagine" (hasn't Darfur suffered enough?) we're thinking girlfriend should stick to the mall punk.

This week's classic Coldplay clip features the Moses Promo Video which comprises a compilation of shots and scenes from the Coldplay Live 2003 DVD, together with the performance of Moses, a track so far only ever played live. VH1 labelled it "Moses - Version 3 by Coldplay".

Amidst the nicely edited concert montages on this cut (from the 2003 DVD), we also get glimpses of the lads lounging backstage, a little jokey guy-on-guy action and a peek at Martin's jump shot. The actual performance of 'Moses' in the video is Australia, but all the clips are from Coldplay in America. The clip where Chris kisses Jonny is at the Hollywood Bowl, the clip where they're all under umbrellas is Red Rocks and there's also clips of them at KROQ radio station (which is in Los Angeles).

Live 2003 is the only official live album release (to date) by Coldplay, first on sale in November 2003. The set features concerts filmed at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on July 21 and 22, 2003. It was nominated for "Best Music Video: Long Form" at the 2004 Grammy Awards. Moses was released in the year 2003 in the album Live 2003 and as a promotional CD (sent to DJs for radio play), on which it is the eighth track on the second disk. It was written about Chris Martin's wife Gwyneth Paltrow. This song inspired the name of Chris and Gwyneth's second child, born in 2006.

Coldplay are slowly narrowing down the material for the follow-up to 2005's X&Y.

According to the band's official website, the group assembled in late June to sort through the songs they've been working on with producer Brian Eno in a five-hour, no-holds-barred meeting.

"Brian drew up a list of all 25 pieces of music that have been worked on during this session," the June 29 diary entry from "Prospekt" says. "The four band members, Brian, Markus (Dravs) and I all shared our thoughts on each and every track: how close it was to completion, what needed to be added, what needed to be removed or replaced, what sounded new and exciting, what sounded tired and old.

"The meeting was a ruthless dissection of all the work done so far. Markus was particularly brutal (as usual). Very little material got an unreserved thumbs-up from everyone. However, far from feeling dispirited, we all came out feeling a lot more confident."

Although there's no word on whether the album will be out in 2008 or later this year, some new material was unveiled at a special appearance for the British charity Mencap. The titles of the four new songs played were said to be "The Butterfly," "Bucket For A Crown," "Mining On The Moon" and "The Fall Of Man."

Coldplay toured South America earlier this year and unveiled some new songs during their shows in late February and early March.

Rolling Stones' Smoking Section was backstage at Wembley Stadium (or “Wembledon,” as the Tap’s Nigel Tufnel dubbed it), to suck up all the dirt at the London leg of Live Earth. Here is their report after bumping into Coldplay's Will Champion:

When we walked out into the VIP bleachers, we ran into Coldplay drummer (and one of the nicest dudes in the music biz) Will Champion, who had a tattoo on his arm of his own baby’s handprint. He told us that Coldplay is still in the studio, with producers including Brian Eno. They spent six months rehearsing their new songs, and, Will says, they’re “60 percent” done with the record. Chris Martin is in New York, working on vocals.

By the wonders of all-the-rage social networking site Facebook, Worldview's Oliver has recently been socialising with some longlost pals from his schooldays. Among the topics of catch-up conversation were the exploits of fellow ex-school and bandmate Guy Berryman. Apparently he's now knocking about in some stadium rock outfit called Coldplay.

But it seems Guy hasn't forgotten where it all began, playing in teen band Time Out with Oliver and some other pals. The group gets a mention in his Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Berryman), and this is Guy reminiscing about those heady early days: "It was guitar and keyboards...we played terrible, terrible stuff. The best musician in the group was really into Genesis. We would agonise for hours trying to work out horrible prog rock stuff with ridiculous solos. We never got anywhere near it - we'd muck about and make a noise." That "best musician", here outing himself as a Genesis fan for the sake of fame-by-association, was Oliver Shaw himself. It's a funny old world...

Speaking of, er, stadium rock, Oliver Shaw will be treading the boards in London, at Hoxton's Troy Bar on August 15th, performing an acoustic set. And he has two dates lined up later in the year at Oxford's student-friendly Purple Turtle, one an acoustic set and the other likely to be a very dance-y outing for his full Worldview.

The extension now has the bid ending July 4. As of Thursday, Terra Firma had received acceptances for 3.53 percent of EMI.

The extension comes amid continued speculation that longtime EMI suitor Warner Music Group Corp. could submit another bid rivaling the Terra Firma bid. Among the artists recording for London-based EMI are Norah Jones and Coldplay.

New York-based Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) has a significant Los Angeles presence, with its Burbank-based Warner Bros. Records, Los Angeles-based Warner/Chappell Music and Burbank-based Rhino Entertainment Co.

London, June 27 (ANI): If there’s one band that Justin Timberlake is desperate to perform with, it would be British band Coldplay.

The Sexy Back singer insists that Coldplay are the ‘modern Beatles’, and that’s why he would give an arm and a leg to duet with them. And, even in the band Timberlake knows just who he wants to jam with – Gwyneth Paltrow’s hubby Chris Martin. "Coldplay are the modern Beatles, so I’d love to do a duet with them — especially Chris Martin," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

The singer, who is currently touring in Europe, got into an altercation with fans while in performing in Sweden. The singer's patience was already stretched thin when a group of teenagers began taunting him while at Gothenburg's Hard Rock Cafe. However, when they continued to do so at the Elite Plaza hotel where Timberlake was staying, he lost his cool, and let fly not only ping-pong bottles and strawberries at them, but also spit.

But Timberlake did manage to get over his ire, playing to a sell-out crowd the next day. (ANI)
