Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) — Visitors to Selfridges department store should be careful if they wander down to the basement looking to buy a television.

From tomorrow, in the store’s Ultralounge — a space set aside for special projects — 24 TV screens will be showing the latest work from polymath creative force Brian Eno. It’s not for sale.

Eno has done just about everything: a founder member of glam rock innovators Roxy Music, producer of some of U2’s best- known albums, pioneer of ambient music, visual artist, lecturer at London’s Royal College of Art, charity campaigner, diarist and stage performer with Luciano Pavarotti.

His latest work, “Luminous (77 Million Paintings),'’ is showing at Selfridges, while the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, northeastern England, will be showing a version entitled “The Constellations (77 Million Paintings)'’ from Jan. 31.

The installation consists of 300 slides created by Eno, digitized for computer, then projected on to the TV screens. They would take 9,000 years to watch were they to run in all possible forms. The visual show is enhanced by randomly generated ambient music. It’s a hypnotic and soothing experience, and be assured that the Selfridges version contains no subliminal messages about making a purchase from the perfume counter.

Coldplay will take camera in hand to record their visit to Chile.

With a view to record the tour as part of the X&Y promotion, they may choose at a later date to include the footage in a future release.

The three Chilean coldplay shows will have a capacity of 5200 people and they will play new material. Chile is the first country of the Latin American Tour which also include Agentina, Brazil and mexico.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, an old pal, sang on a backing track for the spoof zombie movie and appeared in a scene on the DVD version.

Simon’s new film also boasts cameos by a string of stars, including Timothy Dalton, Steve Coogan, Jim Broadbent and Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson. And Cate Blanchett makes an uncredited appearance that only eagle-eyed viewers will spot.

Simon says: “We loved the idea of getting an A-list star to play a role you wouldn’t expect her in. Cate’s a great sport. She’s not even credited in the film. It all adds to the mystery. Chris wasn’t credited for his part either. Sometimes it’s fun to have a friend come along and do it because you can.”

A reminder that Coldplay's March 2006 Toronto show will receive its first showing on British TV this weekend.

04 Feb 07 - After the reports of Brian Eno working on the new Coldplay album, the band themselves have spoken to the Music Week on 6 Music about what they're up to.

Frontman Chris Martin and guitarist Jonny Buckland both turned up to see the Arcade Fire perform at London's Porchester Hall earlier this week - and both were clearly blown away by the Canadian band. Buckland explained why they wanted to work with Eno, who's previously produced U2, Talking Heads and James.

He said: "Well, we kind of more feel that he picked us really. With someone like Brian, if you can persuade him to work with you, you're doing well."

The follow-up to X&Y is an eagerly anticipated album, both with fans and EMI who issued a profits warning when the previous Coldplay album was delayed.

Brian Eno also talked to the Music Week about his latest art project and teaming up with Coldplay.

"They want to take their music somewhere else," he said. "We're really at the very beginning of it, but it sounds very promising to me."

Chris Martin was reluctant to talk about the collaboration with Eno, but he was happy to talk about the Arcade Fire and the chances of Coldplay playing Glastonbury.

"I think Glastonbury is bored of us and I don't think we can even take a harmonica down there for a good 15 years," he said. "I mean, we might go but you've got to know when you're welcome and when you're not."

Martin said of Arcade Fire: "I think they have complete raw brilliance. It's very comforting when you're a great big rock band to see a band that you think is a lot better than yours. It gives you something to aim for, you know."

And he added that his other favourite band to listen to at the moment was My Bloody Valentine - suggesting that Kevin Shields' shoegazing outfit, who split in 1995, could be an influence on the next Coldplay album.

A day of concerts across the globe intended to exceed Live Aid in scale and ambition is to be held this summer to highlight the issue of climate change.

Organisers of the event, scheduled to take place on 7 July, hope to amass a worldwide television audience of two billion people in order to present the message about global warming. The series of co-ordinated concerts in seven cities - London, Washington DC, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town and Kyoto - is expected to be announced today by the former American vice-president Al Gore, who is now a figurehead of the campaign against climate change.

Promoters of the event, which will be branded "SOS", yesterday promised that the line-up of artists - likely to include U2, Coldplay and the Scissor Sisters - will "dwarf" those amassed for Live Aid and its successor, Live8.

Venues for the London event are still being discussed but the shortlist includes Hyde Park and the new Wembley stadium.

Organisers hope that up to three million people will gather at the venues and other cities for the day of interlinked music performances and film and television events.

One promoter told the Financial Times that the event was to be modelled on Live Aid and Live8. However, the source said: "The talent involved is just exponentially bigger because the issue itself is bigger. Live Aid was about asking people to stump up money, this about effecting systemic change. The aim is not just to drive awareness but to get people to take action."

Coldplay will meet with superproducer Timbaland to talk about producing their new record

Coldplay is considering joining forces with superproducer Timbaland on their next album, EW has exclusively learned.

''It would give me a new energy; it would take me to a whole other place,'' Timbaland told EW on Tuesday. ''[Coldplay] are so talented, it would help me as a person. Working with them would be great. It's about the music — not clothes or jewelry, just pure passion for music.''

Monique Idlett, who handles publicity for Timbaland's Mosley Music Group, told EW that Timbaland plans to meet with the band in April to discuss their follow-up to 2005's triple-platinum X&Y. Idlett said initial conversations have suggested that Timbaland might produce a substantial part of the new album.

The producer's interest in Coldplay comes as no surprise. Last month, Timbaland told Billboard.biz that the band was high on his hypothetical list of future musical partners. ''It takes a lot to really excite me,'' he said then. ''But I am excited about Coldplay.'' In a 2003 interview with MTV News, Timbaland described Coldplay as ''the only [artist] I'd like to do a song with.''

Representatives for Coldplay declined to confirm or deny Timbaland's participation. On Jan. 26, avant-garde icon Brian Eno (U2, Talking Heads) told BBC Radio 4 that he has agreed to work on Coldplay's next album. The band's representatives told EW on Monday that Eno will co-produce, and that recording has yet to begin.

Working with the British rockers would be the latest genre-hopping move for Timbaland, who rose to fame as a hip-hop and R&B beatsmith but conquered the pop charts last year, producing multiple hits for Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin reportedly sang on a Timbaland-produced track for Furtado's 2006 album Loose, but Furtado has said that Martin's vocals were removed at the request of his label. Martin later produced and sang on a song from Jay-Z's comeback album Kingdom Come, and will reportedly appear on the first single from Kanye West's upcoming album Graduation.

Idlett denied rumors that Martin would be contributing to the producer's March 27 solo debut, Timbaland Presents Shock Value, which is expected to include cameos from guitar-centric acts including Fall Out Boy, She Wants Revenge, and the Hives.

Coldplay have confirmed Brian Eno is working on their next album.

The legendary producer and musician is famous for his work with Roxy Music, U2 and David Bowie - and guitarist Jonny Buckland let slip news of the band’s new signing at last week’s Arcade Fire gig. He said: “We feel that he picked us really, rather than we picked him. If you can persuade him to work with you then you must be doing quite well.”

However, frontman Chris Martin was more careful — knowing one word from him can send his record company EMI’s share price flying up or down. He told BBC6 Music: “It’s just too early to talk about that at the moment.”

Chris went to two of the four Arcade Fire shows last week and revealed they are his favourite band. He said he would have gone to more - but he had to turn out for Coldplay’s weekly sports match. The singer explained: “I had to play for my band’s football team. We have to keep fit because nobody likes a fat pop star.”

And modest Chris was keen to rave about the Canadian act. “Arcade Fire have completely raw brilliance and passion,” he said. “When you are in a big rock band it's great to see a band that’s better than yours. It gives you something to aim for.”

He also confirmed that Coldplay will NOT be playing this year’s Glastonbury Festival. He said: “Glastonbury is bored of us. I just plan to stay in hibernation and keep plotting and planning until we are ready to come back.”

'Part of the Plan' on Swizz Beatz album

Beyonce collaborator Swizz Beatz has worked with Coldplay on his solo album. The track on which the band are involved, 'Part Of The Plan', features on his album 'One Man Band''.

He said: "(It's) just talking. You know how people give a positive message but they sound so way out their realm? "Like it sounds cool, but I can't picture that. In my song, I'm like 'Me and brother arguing to see who pick the mouse up/ I walk by the oven to open the door to heat the house up.' Real shit. Not 'The world can be a beautiful place'- type shit."

'One Man Band' is set to be released on March 5, reports MTV.

Coldplay singer Chris Martin has said it is unlikely his chart-topping band will play at Glastonbury this year.

"I think Glastonbury is bored of us," he told BBC 6Music. "I don't think we can even take a harmonica down there for a good 15 years."

Coldplay were among the headliners when the festival was last held in 2005, but chances of a quick return seem slight. "We might go, but you've got to know when you are welcome and when you're not," said Martin.

The Who, the Arctic Monkeys and Bjork are the only acts so far confirmed for Glastonbury, which takes place from 22-24 June. More than 100,000 people signed up when the summer music festival's ticket registration system opened on Thursday. The Chemical Brothers, Eric Clapton, Madness, The Kooks and the Scissor Sisters are among those rumoured to be performing. However, festival organiser Michael Eavis has firmly denied suggestions that Irish supergroup U2 will be on the bill.

Coldplay begin a tour of Latin America later this month that will take the band to Chile, Argentina and Mexico.

The music video for "The Scientist" was very popular with its reverse narrative. A similar concept was previously used for Spike Jonze's music video for The Pharcyde's "Drop" and "Weird Al" Yankovic's music video for Amish Paradise. Irish actress Elaine Cassidy is also featured in the video. It took Chris Martin a month to learn the lyrics backwards.

During his BBC Radio 1 show, Chris mentioned that the other guys were working while he was taking over the DJ job - in addition, it was reported a few months ago that the guys have invested in new London headquarters to record their 4th studio album in.

Before the judging can even begin on the Simon-Randy-Paula fronted show, Access has exclusively learned the rocker will head to Britain to finish her second solo album with one of Coldplay's album mixers, Danton Supple.

A source close to the star told Access Love will make the trip with the record's producer, Linda Perry, the former Four Non-Blondes frontwoman whose magic touch helped catapult the careers of Pink, James Blunt and Christina Aguilera.

Tentatively titled How Dirty Girls Get Clean, the bulk of the writing and recording for the spring due release took place last year. Things recently stepped into high gear on the project when Love signed with The Firm management who represent Korn and Mandy Moore.

Current songs slated for Love's record include "Sunset Marquis," "Pacific Coast Highway" and "Loser Dust." In recent posts on her fansite MoonwashedRose.comthe rocker noted she has at least one new composition to add to the record. Called "Samantha," the cut is a collaboration between Love, former flame, Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan, and Perry.

Second London show starts dramatically

Arcade Fire continued their week of intimate London gigs with their second show at St John’s Church tonight (January 30) and were watched by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

As previously reported, the band kicked off a week of gigs to showcase new album ‘Neon Bible’ last night (29). Beginning the show right in the middle of the sold out audience, the band performed ‘Wake Up’ without amplification to give the show a unique start.

Moving to the main stage, the group then played a host of new songs including forthcoming single ‘Keep The Car Running’, ‘Black Wave/ Bad Vibrations’, ‘Intervention’, ‘(Antichrist Television Blues)’ ‘No Cars Go’, which appears on the band’s 2003 debut EP but has been re-recorded for ‘Neon Bible’.

However it was during first album anthem ‘Rebellion (Lies)’ that Arcade Fire left their biggest impression, with frontman Win Butler diving into the crowd to deliver his vocals stood atop a chair, halfway down the church’s aisle.

The singer’s venture seemed to be inspired by the reverential effect the venue had on the crowd, with Butler joking they were “acting like they were in a church”.

He later compared the contrast between an applause and mass-like silence to a Japanese audience.

“You’re very polite, your parents would be very proud,” he explained, before asking had “anyone one come with their parents?”

Following several raised hands he added: “Wow, your parents are cooler than mine!”

Concluding the set with ‘Neighbourhood #2 (Laika)’ from debut album ‘Funeral’, the band are set to complete their run at St John’s tomorrow (January 31) before moving to Porchester Hall later this week (February 1,2).

For the first time, all 14 of Coldplay's singles are to be collected together in a box set. Each single will be pressed on heavyweight 7-inch vinyl and sleeved in its original artwork. The box set will contain five singles which have never previously appeared on 7-inch vinyl.

They include 'The Blue Room EP', Coldplay's rare first release for Parlophone in October 1999, which has been split into two 7-inch singles. The box set will also feature the international singles, 'Don't Panic', 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' and 'What If', none of which were released in the UK. It will also include 'The Hardest Part' [pictured], which was previously only available as a download in the UK.

This collection will only be released as a 7-inch vinyl box set, and there will not be a CD release. The Limited Edition 7-Inch Box Set is released 26th March 2007.

Scissor Sisters and Coldplay have stepped up the fight against global warming by lending their support to a new scheme which allows people to buy carbon credits.

The scheme, which is also being backed by actor Leonardo DiCaprio, plans to use the money raised to invest in alternative energy resources and raise awareness.Global Cool Foundation is the brainchild of music promoter Dan Morrell, who claims: "Global Cool is about buying time and allowing new energy solutions to swing it."

For every $39 donated, $5.9 will go to putting on star studded Live 8 style concerts.
