But the club was already over capacity and the doormen refused to let the lads in. Our mole said: "They turned up at 11.30pm with another band, We Are Scientists. But there were too many people inside. They tried begging the doormen but they were having none of it."

Coldplay have sold a staggering 8 million albums (Parachutes, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, X&Y) in Europe last year as part of a list of million-selling artists in Europe from British acts this year.

The BPI reports that Robbie Williams was the top seller with 12 millions from three albums (Greatest Hits, Intensive Care and Rudebox) and James Blunt’s debut Back to Bedlam was the biggest individual seller with 5 million.

OK Computer by Radiohead, released in the summer of 1997, sold 3 million more copies and Gorillaz, Kaiser Chiefs, Katie Melua, KT Tunstall and Rod Stewart all shifted 2 million each. Artists who sold one million albums include Muse, Snow Patrol, The Kooks, Sugababes, Corrine Bailey Rae, Rolling Stones and Keane.

Seems like Gwyneth wasn't alone with her two kiddies in New York City after all - keeping a low profile, Chris Martin accompanied his family on the trip to the Big Apple and was seen taking a stroll with the little apple of his eye on Sunday, October 29.

As reported earlier, Jay Z has revealed the full details of his star-studded comeback album, "Kingdom Come".

Coldplay are among the celebrities donating gifts for an auction in aid of charity, Cancer Active. The rock group have given items including a signed t-shirt that Chris Martin wore on the Rush of Blood tour.

Other gifts include an exclusive handcrafted Julien MacDonald evening gown (below) worth £4,000, which the London designer has promised to tailor to fit the winning bidder. Sporting heroes Seb Coe and Will Carling have also contributed to the auction.

Olympic chairman Coe has put a T-shirt he wore while running Sports Relief with Tony Blair up for auction and Carling has given a signed England Rugby shirt. The auction will run for ten days on eBay through Auctioning4u.co.uk from November 14.

Newlywed Chris Martin has spoken for the first time about his shock wedding to Gwyneth Paltrow and he told me: “I love being married.”

In a rare and revealing chat the shy Coldplay singer also said he is thrilled at the prospect of becoming a dad. Chris, 26, and Oscar winner Gwyneth, 31, are expecting their first child next summer. He has never before spoken about his love for the Hollywood beauty or the news he is to be a dad.

But with me he was open, funny and almost confessional as he talked about his life and the future for him, Gwyneth and his band. The couple ran off to California and married in secret days after telling the world of their baby joy two weeks ago.

There were no family or friends present — just them and a judge in a Santa Barbara hotel. The couple celebrated by taking a private jet to Mexico for a brief honeymoon. Chris is notoriously coy when it comes to discussing his private life. As we talk he fiddles nervously with his silver wedding ring.

He tells me exclusively: “I guess you can say we eloped. It was great because we got married without any fuss. I’d have eloped even if I wasn’t famous and ran a shop. Sometimes I think I’m like the Hugh Grant character from Notting Hill who runs the bookshop. Just an ordinary bloke that has extraordinary things happen to him. It’s been an amazing year for me. But it’s all been a bit mad with the media interest in us. We’re not the kind of people to do the red carpet thing and go to lots of showbiz parties. We’re just normal people who want a normal life. But don’t get me wrong, I love the thought of having babies and I love being married.”

Chris shares a luxury apartment with his new bride in London’s plush Belgravia.

They have spent the past year jetting around the globe, spending much of their time in New York and Los Angeles, where Gwyneth was brought up.But now the couple plan to take some time off to enjoy being married — and await the new arrival.

Devon-born Chris says: “London is, and always will be, our home. We’ve got no intention to live in America. I sometimes get fed-up with the attention we get here, but it would never make me give up my home. I feel very protective towards my wife. But I’m no different to anyone else. Sometimes I react, but I don’t go round punching photographers.”

Coldplay’s 2002 CD A Rush Of Blood To The Head has sold more than eight million copies worldwide. The band have been nominated for Record Of The Year at February’s 2004 Grammys for their single, Clocks. This year has seen them take countless trophies, including Brit Awards, MTV awards and Bizarre Poll gongs.

Chris has unfairly been labelled “boring” because he doesn’t drink, smoke or take drugs. True, he is as far removed as you can get from the likes of loutish Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher — who in March branded Chris a “nobhead student” and Gwyneth a “gawky bird”. But in the flesh Chris is funny, charming and intelligent and cracks jokes to disguise his shyness. He is far from boring. He and Gwyneth, who dated for 18 months, are the perfect match. They are polite and caring people whose talent has brought them wealth and fame. Chris says: “Everyone says my wife and I are miserable but we’re not. We’re happy people.”

When I ask Chris if he and Gwyneth have chosen any names for their baby, his humour really comes out. He says: “I’m thinking of calling it Liam or Noel. Apparently Liam said a few things about me that weren’t too complimentary but I think I’ll repay the compliment by naming the baby after them. “I would like to buy Noel Gallagher’s place in the country. We could call it Clocks Towers. . . that was a joke.”

Chris and his bandmates, Jon Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, are working on a follow-up to A Rush Of Blood To The Head. But fans will have to wait until 2005 to hear the new material. He explains: “I want time off because I’ve had a mad year. I think people need a rest from Coldplay. There’s a real pressure on us now, too. We’ve become obsessed with trying to deliver something amazing. I hope people aren’t sick of us. We’ve loved touring the US but we’re still not that big in America. I’d like to thank Sun readers for supporting us. I don’t think we would be where we are today without them.”

Despite the band’s success, Chris is still nervous about their future. He says: “I’m always worried it could end tomorrow. There’s no guarantee people are not going to get fed-up with us. Everyone assumes we’re multi-millionaires because we’ve sold a lot of albums but none of us are rich enough to retire. The most extravagant thing I’ve bought is 95 hooded tops all the same. It means I can hide when I walk out of my front door.”

That is exactly what Chris plans to do next year. Somehow I doubt he will manage it.

Danny McNamara hasn't ruled out a future hit single with his mate Chris Martin.

The Embrace singer, who helped Coldplay at the start of their career by giving them support slots at their gigs in 2000, has talked of a possible collaboration.

He said: "I've said to Chris that we should write a song together. He writes great verses and I write great choruses so we should do it at some point. It'll surely be a hit."

After going to both of their Toronto shows in March, 2006, I am very disappointed to hear this news. Both nights were incredible, though the audience was a lot more responsive on thursday instead of wednesday (possibly because of the age demographic -- wednesday seemed like more of a day for the older fans of coldplay). Also, Chris Martin even came out on stage on Thursday March 23rd, 2006 and informed the audience that they were filming for a live DVD... you would think that, regardless of quality (if it saves them money) they would release it. On 20 November, Universal Music will release ‘Rhythms Del Mundo’, an exciting collaborative album, which fuses the hot Afro-Cuban sounds of The Buena Vista Social Club Musicians™ with tracks from some of the buzziest bands, including The Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay, The Kaiser Chiefs, Jack Johnson and many others.

It also features the amazing vocals from famed Cuban vocalists, Omara Portuonda, and the last ever recording of the much beloved Ibrahim Ferrer.

The album is in aid of Artists Project Earth (APE), which lends support for natural disaster relief and climate change awareness.

Rhythms Del Mundo is an electrifying album that fuses music of different cultures and comes up with a melting pot of rare sounds. Arranged by Demetrio Muniz, Miguel Patterson and Kenito, the main recording sessions took place in Havana at Abdala Studios from the April 2005 to June 2006. While the majority of the vocals remain the same, The Buena Vista Social Club musicians took the original orchestration from each song and created something utterly unique casting their trademark mastery over each track. Their noted and exceptional musicianship seduced even the notoriously protective Arctic Monkeys into handing over their track. As a rule, the band has never licensed their music for compilation albums, but were so enamoured with the result that they were happy for it to be included on the album. As well as The Arctic Monkeys’ track ‘Dancing Shoes’, Rhythms Del Mundo included reworked tracks such as Clocks by Coldplay, Better Together by Jack Johnson, She Will be Loved by Maroon 5, High and Dry by Radiohead and others. Rhythms Del Mundo also includes music by famed Cuban singers Omara Portuondo and the last vocal recording of Afro-Cuban bolero singer, Ibrahim Ferrer, who died tragically in 2005. The other Cuban musicians from The Buena Vista Social Club who perform on this album are as follows: Barbarito Torres, Amandito Valdes, Virgilio Valdes, Angel Terri Domech, Manuel ‘Guajiro’ Mirabal, Orlando Lopez ‘Cachaito’ and Demetrio Muniz.Kenny Young, producer and Founder/Trustee of APE, explains how the project emerged: “The project was sparked off by the devastating Tsunami of Xmas 2005. The idea came in to do a project with The Buena Vista Social Club. To fuse their Latin sounds with Western artists and their familiar popular songs. The project evolved when more environmental disasters struck - the Asian Earthquakes and Hurricane Katrina. But the big picture was climate change. You can call these natural disasters but after all the research and scientific data, we know that we’re at least partly to blame for some of these disasters. Global warming is now in the news daily. If we don’t act in the time frame our experts give us, our grandchildren will curse us eternally.’ The artists on this album fully support the record as a show of commitment to the music and to the cause that it endorses. Thom Yorke comments, ‘We need a law, we need to have the Government put climate change in its’ place. If you leave industry to sort it out on a voluntary basis that’s never going to happen. An exclusive range of collectible hand designed plates, mugs and saucers created by celebrity names will be auctioned at Reach Out To Asia’s (Rota) star-studded gala dinner at the Ritz-Carlton on November 4.

South Africa’s Archbishop Desmond Tutu, James Bond actor and Unicef goodwill ambassador Sir Roger Moore, Oscar winning actor, producer and director George Clooney, British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman, designer and head of the DKNY fashion empire Donna Karan, and one of the world’s most popular rock bands, Coldplay, have all contributed pieces for the auction.

"Successful bidders will take home the individual pieces and acquire the artist’s original artwork," a Rota release yesterday said.

The plates donated by Charlotte di Vita MBE, goodwill ambassador for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, are produced by 21st Century Leaders – a unique charity project that gathers artworks from leaders in all fields. These include royalty, Nobel peace laureates, and top names in film, music, sports and literature.

The artworks are used to create products such as wristbands, clothing, tableware, ethical cosmetics and stationery, all released under the Whatever It Takes charity campaign label. This ‘merchandise with a meaning’ is manufactured under fair working conditions and is sold to raise funds for charitable causes chosen by each contributing leader, with 100% of the net profits donated to charity.

The organisation adopts a ‘no holds barred’ attitude in respect of the artwork, preferring to fly in the face of controversy even when presented with a somewhat less than ‘politically correct’ item. Hence their project name – Whatever It Takes.

Celebrities choose the message they would like to convey and prepare the artwork themselves.

2000 - Travis is named the best act in the world at the Q Awards 2000, presented in London.

Badly Drawn Boy wins for best new act; Coldplay's 'Parachutes' is named best album.

The awards are voted on by readers of Q Magazine and via a telephone system opereated by the event's sponsor. Read other years here

The Arctic Monkeys stole the show at the Q Awards today - toppling Oasis from their throne.

The Sheffield scallies scooped two of the most prestigious gongs at the biggest rock and roll event of the year - for Best Album and the People's Choice Award.

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, sold over 360,000 copies in its first week this year, making it the fastest selling debut album in the UK since records began.

Oasis did the double in the same categories last year - despite protests from Noel Gallagher that they were too old and should not have dominated the event. Instead Noel Gallagher was named Classic Songwriter at the star-studded bash in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, presented by TV funnyman Jonathan Ross. And Oasis won Best Act In The World Today. They were expected to win that particular title last year - but were beaten by Coldplay.

Best Track went to Gnarls Barkley for his contagious song Crazy. The single is the first to top the UK chart for nine weeks consecutively since Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around in 1994. Best Live Act went to Devon rock band Muse and Best Video to The Killers for When You Were Young. Best New Act went to Leeds-born soul-singer Corinne Bailey Rae.

Meanwhile boyband Take That picked up the Idol Award, off the back of their hugely successful UK tour earlier this year. The band reunited after a 10-year split in late 2005. Sixties cult band The Who were honoured with a Legend Award. U2, who won Best Live Act last year, picked up two gongs.

Peter Gabriel, who rose to fame in Genesis, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. GIRLS ALOUD, THE SUGABABES, ORSON, RAZORLIGHT and THE KOOKS, were among celebrities at the magazine event.

While Gwyneth Paltrow spent this week in New York City with her two children, 2 1/2 years old Apple and 6-month-old Moses, husband Chris Martin reportedly partied into the early hours with his good friend Danny McNamara [pictured] from Embrace. They partied at Another Music - Another Kitchen held at the Proud Galleries in Camden, London.

Chris has been friends with the Embrace singer for a long time - he also lent them their song "Gravity", saying it would fit well with their music.
