Chris Martin and his actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow thrilled a sold-out crowd at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall last night when they joined hip-hop star Jay-Z on stage.

The Coldplay frontman collaborated with Jay-Z on his new album Kingdom Come, sparking rumours the pair would duet live as part of the rapper's two London shows this week. But no one expected the singer to be joined by his wife too, who provided backing vocals for Song Cry. She has previously appeared onstage with pal Sheryl Crow. Martin performed an untitled new song from Jay-Z's forthcoming album, as well as Heart Of The City (Aint' No Love) from classic record The Blueprint.

Another star helping out his hip-hop friend last night was NAS, who sang three songs. Jay-Z was the first rapper to perform at the Royal Albert Hall venue. He was accompanied by a full 25-piece orchestra.

Chris Martin, was at Abbey Studios with U2 for a while on 18th September and had some time to talk to fans.

Chris chatted to us and allowed photos etc. Then said he had to get home. So he walked across the street and commenced walking alone to wherever his house is. No bodyguards no nothing.

Martin was revealed as one of the guest vocalists on Jay-Z's forthcoming new album "Kingdom Come", and will join the rap megastar on stage to debut the new track in the UK. Other artists reported to be joining the star during the tour are Lupe Fiasco, British star Kano and Akala, who picked up a Mobo Award for hest hip-hop artist last week.

Taking place on September 27, the prestigious concert caps a nationwide tour for the hip-hop star - which kicked off yesterday in Glasgow. Tickets are still available for dates in Birmingham tonight and Dublin on Sep. 26.

As reported earlier, we can now reveal that Chris Martin, wife Gwyneth Paltrow and bandmate Will Champion attended the "Established & Sons First Birthday - VIP Party" on September 23, 2006 - among the guests were also their good friends Paul and Stella McCartney.

The party was all about the partnership of British furniture manufacturer 'Established & Sons' with Bono's RED campaign (Chris also wears a 'Red' t-shirt at the event). At Grosvenor Place 9, many celebrities celebrated the launch of the company's Red version of aqua table designed by architect Zaha Hadid.

Coldplay’s White Shadows will be played on the radio, but there is no official release for the track. I don’t think countries other than Australia will be able to play it seeing as how it will ‘only be in Australia’, indicating that it isn’t a worldwide release. That’s how I’ve percieved it and if I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will tell me. Yeah it is a little confusing to why but that’s just how it is…

It was announced through a question and answer section at Coldplay.com that “White Shadows” will be the sixth single released from that album, following the limited releases of The Hardest Part and What If.

There is also a planned promo video for it, according to the official site, though no details have been released so far.

Coldplay's Chris Martin is to join Jay-Z onstage at his London show next week (September 27).

Martin, feature on Jay-Z's forthcoming album, 'Kingdom Come', will make his first live appearance with the rapper as he joins him on the last date of his UK and Irish tour at the Royal Albert Hall.

Jay-Z will also be accompanied by a full 25-piece orchestra - and more surprises are promised. The tour starts tonight (September 22) in Glasgow.The full list of dates is:

Justin Timberlake has revealed he’d love to collaborate with Chris Martin — but the Coldplay star has turned him down.

The singer said: “I’d like to get Chris Martin in the studio but he won’t sing on anything but Coldplay stuff.” And Justin can’t help but be a little peeved about it. He joked on a T4 special: “I respect him and I hate him for that.”

While Chris will happily write and produce with other artists — including Jay Z, Nelly Furtado and Jamelia — he doesn’t like lending his vocals. Justin’s full chat is on C4 tonight from 8pm. His album FutureSex/ LoveSounds is at No1 — but will be knocked off on Sunday by the Scissor Sisters’ Ta-Dah.

Being the frontman of one of the biggest bands on earth still won't get you a gig on underground SBS hit show RocKwiz. Just ask Chris Martin of Coldplay.

Host Julia Zemiro says he is the one person they would ban from the show apart from his wife Gwyneth Paltrow.

"She just shouldn't have sung," Zemiro said. "And we have a bit of a running joke with Chris." In its final episode tomorrow, RocKwiz will unite the bad boys of rock with the beautiful broads of song for an action-packed temporary goodbye. Appearing will be Tex Perkins, Tim Rogers and Dave Larkin, along with Deborah Conway, Ella Hooper and Rebecca Barnard. The show will be back for another series, which will begin filming at Melbourne's Esplanade Hotel next month.

Zemiro said it had enjoyed slow-burning success. "I just got a phone call from James Black, who is the guitarist and keyboardist in the RocKwiz band," she said. "He is touring with the Countdown Spectacular and he said everybody on the show loves RocKwiz and they all want to be on it. And John Paul Young would love to have a go, so all these things are coming out of the woodwork."

Zemiro said the show's appeal was in its throwback to the Countdown era. "When Tex Perkins was on the show he was saying what he loves is that it feels like being on Countdown again, where anything could happen. It was live, there was music, there was laughter, there was improvising and sometimes magic would happen and sometimes big mistakes would happen. But it was exciting to watch because it wasn't so pre-produced."

With quiz shows cluttering our screens these days, Zemiro said they had become the obvious replacements for reality TV. "They're cheap to make," she said. "Ever since Trivial Pursuit and pub trivia became so popular, people love to show off their knowledge. If you know something and have an area of expertise you get excited at having to be tested on that."

She said her next best areas of knowledge after music were Shakespeare and cooking. "On Australia's Brainiest Comedian I beat geniuses like Mark Holden, Andrew G and Gary Sweet and put my special interest as Shakespeare's plays," she said. "I've been to acting school and used to work with the Bell Shakespeare Company. And cooking because my father was a chef you could do CooKwiz and I'd be into it."

There were some pretty good headlines from the Premiere dinner, including news from Paltrow. “I’m going back to work!” she told me. “I’m reading scripts and looking for movies.” Paltrow and husband Chris Martin of Coldplay fame are still living in London, but they’ve bought a house in the Hamptons.

Paltrow’s revival includes cameos in two films this fall: “Infamous” and “Running With Scissors.” In the former, she opens the film very surprisingly as a jazz singer in a nightclub. It’s her singing, and she carries it off beautifully.

And you may wonder how her son got his name, Moses. Forget about daughter, Apple. At 2, she’s already in preschool, Gwyneth said, and having a ball.

“Moses was my father’s Hebrew name,” Paltrow told me. “And we just liked it.” Little Moses has all kinds of nicknames apparently including the cherished appellation “Moishe.” Mazel Tov!

The producers knew he wasn’t right for the part, but liked his performance so much that they re-imagined Charlie specifically for him. In the latest addition to the Coldplay baby boom, bassist Guy Berryman [pictured] and his designer wife Jo welcomed a daughter on Sunday, September 17th. Baby Nico weighed in at 7lbs.

This is the first child for the pair, but she joins other Coldplay babies Ava Champion, born to drummer Will in May, and Moses Martin, born to pianist/singer Chris (and Gwyneth!) in April.

Loved by millions, hated by just as many it’s Coldplay with the third single from the ridiculously huge ‘X & Y’, ‘Talk’.

Trendy scensters crucify me if you will, but beneath it’s sleeky clean façade, this is actually pretty affecting stuff, buoyed by a stunning melody. Ahem, I’ll get me coat. Admittedly, if you dislike Coldplay for all their MORness and the superficial, shallow tabloid obsession for Chris Martin and his megastar wife, you’ll clearly hate this. But for the rest of us we’ll admire it for what it is - a bloody great song.

On the flip side, the Martin-penned song that single-handedly helped resurrect Embrace’s career ‘Gravity’ is claimed back by the band and is well worth checking out.

Music legends The Who are being awarded a Lifetime Achievement award for live music.

The band will be given the gong at the inaugural Vodafone Live Music Awards next month. Presently on a comeback world tour, The Who's venerable rockers have shown they can still draw huge crowds. There are no plans yet to extend the tour to Australia, though there have been persistent - if unsubstantiated - rumours about the veterans playing at the next Big Day Out.

Nominees for the other titles at the Vodafone awards include Coldplay, the Kaiser Chiefs, Muse and Razorlight for Live Act. Take That, Pink Floyd, and Depeche Mode, as well as The Who, have been nominated for Best Live Return. Foo Fighters, the Scissor Sisters, The Killers and U2 are up for International Live Act. The Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement in Live Music award has been created to honour the contribution the late Queen singer made to live music.

The awards will be held at the Roundhouse in central London on October 11.

Jay-Z has admitted his attempt to quit music was "the worst retirement in history".

In 2002, the rapper announced 'The Black Album' would be his last record because he wanted to give up on making music and concentrate on his business interests. However, he recently ended his hiatus by returning to the stage and is currently putting the finishing touches to a new LP called 'Kingdom Come'.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "It was the worst retirement, maybe, in history. I believed it, yeah. I believed it for two years.''The rapper also confirmed a rumoured collaboration with Coldplay singer Chris Martin after the unlikely friends met at a charity party. "Chris Martin produced a track on there,'' he added. ''We met at a charity dinner and just really kept in touch. He sent me these beautiful chords for this song called 'Beach Chair.' I had Dre put some drums on it. It's really, really incredible.''

'Kingdom Come' is scheduled for release in November.
