Coldplay plan to release 'The Scientist' as the second single from 'A Rush of Blood to the Head', according to guitarist Jonny Buckland.

The group are currently on tour in the US in support of their forthcoming second album, which is due for release in the UK on August 26. Speaking to Billboard following the band's stellar show at the New York Bowery Ballroom, where singer Chris Martin covered Oasis' 'Songbird' in front of the Gallagher brothers, Buckland confirmed that the track, a ballad, will be the next release.

It is currently unclear when the single will see a release, but the group are set to tour UK arenas in October, making November likely. Coldplay remain in the US until August 20, and have announced a larger tour for later in the year.

Chris Martin covered Oasis's 'Songbird' in front of Noel and Liam Gallagher at Coldplay's show in New York last night.

The band performed a show at the New York Bowery Ballroom (August 12), part of a brief North American tour in support of their forthcoming second album 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head'.

Oasis watched the show from the balcony, while fans also spotted actress Gwyneth Paltrow in attendance.The band performed a set comprised of the highlights of 'Parachutes', as well as a selection of new songs. Of the new songs, Martin dedicated 'God Put A Smile On Your Face' to "anybody who’s been in a car accident recently" - a reference to Noel Gallagher, who was injured last week while Oasis were in the country on their own tour.

After finishing the encore, Martin returned to the stage and told the audience that the show was officially over. However, anyone who wanted to stay for a few fun surprises should. He then sat at the piano for his own version of the Liam Gallagher-penned 'Songbird' from 'Heathen Chemistry'. Fans say that Noel Gallagher jumped to his feet from the booth he was sitting in and whistled loudly and cheered as Martin performed the opening chords.

Martin closed the show with a version of Echo And The Bunnymen’s 'Lips Like Sugar'.

Coldplay is giving away a limited-edition run of 1,000 lyric books to fans who buy the group's second album, A Rush of Blood To The Head, online at the official website.

The lyric book is only available to fans who pre-order the album, which is due August 27. One copy of the album, signed by the entire band, will also be given away, with the winner drawn from the list of web buyers.

The lead single from the album is "In My Place," and an EMI International release of the CD single features two new bonus track B-sides, "One I Love" and "'I Bloom Blaum," which can both be previewed at the album's designated site

Darius looks set to hold on to his top spot in the UK singles charts this Sunday. Colourblind is outselling Coldplay's new single In My Place, according to mid-week sales figures.

Mad House are in line to enter the charts at number three with their remix of Madonna's Like A Prayer. Gareth Gates' track, Anyone Of Us, has moved down to fourth place, followed by Will Smith's Black Suits Comin' in fifth.

Coldplay played a brief live television show on August 4th at the studios of, Canadian music channel Musiqueplus in Montreal.

The eight-song set, punctuated by frontman Chris Martin addressing the small invited audience in French, came ahead of today's (August 5) release of new single 'In My Place'. The band are entering a week-long battle with 'Pop Idol' loser Darius Danesh to hit the top spot on the UK chart.

Coldplay opened their show with 'Politik', the first track on new album 'A Rush of Blood To The Head'. Following the song, Martin thanked the fans saying simply "Merci beaucoup, tout le monde."

Following 'God Put A Smile Upon On Your Face' Coldplay took questions from the floor during which Martin said the time between finishing the new album and its forthcoming release was similar to the "wait associated in getting your exam results".

The band then ran through 'Trouble', 'Daylight', 'Yellow', 'In My Place', 'The Scientist' and 'Life Is For Living'. After the cameras stopped rolling, Coldplay carried on with 'Shiver' and then 'Don't Panic'.

"What is there left to prove for this act? They've released a classic debut album, critics love them, fans adore them, and they need not try anymore! But that would not be in their make up, for as vocalist Chris martin said to me after the show, 'We now want to go on to justify the coverage, justify earning this amount of money, justify people paying money to come and watch us - by becoming the greatest band ever.' They seem to be caught in the triangle of, 'we are quite duff, the records are duff, we are the best band ever' it's a mixture of self-doubt and sheer arrogance.Becoming the greatest is a tall order, as you would imagine. Tonight the band enter stage left to a reception fit for kings, and then deliver a set that has all the right moves, with songs from their debut album being welcomed like homecoming heroes while brilliant songs from their forthcoming second album are received with open arms. Song titles just don't matter; like the first time you heard 'Yellow' it mattered not what it was called or what it was about; it was just pure pop-rock brilliance.

The band have once again recorded huge chunks of their new album right here in Liverpool, just as they did with the PARACHUTES and it shows; the new songs are all one part REM, one part Beatles, one part Bunnymen, and for the most part Coldplay.

Four giant screens set behind the band focus on each member, Chris calls it their 'Bon Jovi moment' and it's like watching an arena show in an intimate setting, there are over two thousand in here tonight for this 'secret' Glastonbury warm-up, yet Coldplay make you feel like it's just an intimate two hundred.

They end the show with the mighty bunnyman himself, ol' uncle Ian coming out and Coldplay become the backing band while they run through 'Lips Like Sugar' (which is my favourite Echo and the Bunnymen song) and I've never heard it sound so good.

You see, this band is magic. They captivate with a spell that cannot be broken, and when they play for an hour it feels like ten minutes. And when they say goodnight it's like they just said hello; they transcend space and time with such effortless precision.

Chris told me that they turned down touring with U2 to record their new album and that the band has so many songs that they could release three. He also told me he needs to stop swearing so much, but for a chap that does not drink, smoke or does not have any rock and roll vices, the odd 'fuck you' can only be human.

I have watched the Rolling Stones, Bowie, Springsteen, U2, REM, and Radiohead (the latter three progressing from small venues to stadiums) and each time I have said the following words and I never think I will ever say them again; well tonight ladies and gentlemen Coldplay became the best rock and roll band in the world.

Coldplay has added 11 more shows onto its North American tour itinerary, which, as previously reported, gets underway Aug. 2 in Chicago. While the first eight dates will hit clubs and small theaters, the subsequent 11 shows will be held in larger theaters and amphitheaters. The North American shows are scheduled to wrap Sept. 24 in Chicago.

Following these gigs, Coldplay will return to its native U.K. for a 12-date run, beginning Oct. 4 in Glasgow and concluding Oct. 23 in Belfast. The tour comes in support of the group's sophomore Parlophone/Capitol album, "A Rush of Blood to the Head," due Aug. 27 in North America.

First single "In My Place" was the top debut last week at No. 34 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart and jumps to No. 30 on this week's tally.Drummer Will Champion wrote in a recent online journal that the band rode a bit of an emotional rollercoaster while recording the new album. Initial sessions yielded a host of potential songs, but as Champion said, "Trouble is when things go smoothly with us, invariably it means that the end product is no good. We spent two months working on songs, quite a few of which, after a break and reappraisal turned out to be not so good."

After relocating from Primrose Hill to Liverpool, "songs that were chucked became ancestors to new songs, and songs like 'The Scientist,' 'Daylight,' 'A Whisper,' [and] 'Clocks' arrived and were recorded within days of being written. It was quite an intense period of work, but the fact that we were frustrated and confused and sometimes panicked was bizarrely a good sign."

Coldplay's new single In My Place, will include two extra new tracks when it is released on August 5. The additional tracks are Bloom Blaum and One I Love, which have recently formed part of the band's live set.

Coldplay drummer Will Champion told the band's official website www.coldplay.com the band had rejected some of their newly-recorded material after deciding they were not up to scratch. He said: "We spent two months working on songs, quite a few of which, after a break and reappraisal turned out to be not so good. Songs like Animals, Idiot, I Ran Away and Murder were chucked and we knew we had to change location and get writing.

"But the fact that we were frustrated and confused and sometimes panicked was bizarrely a good sign. For us, good things only come out of difficult times."

Could Coldplay's next album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, be its last? Such rumors have hounded the U.K. band ever since its quick rise to fame with its 2000 debut release, Parachutes, with the British press in particular repeatedly anticipating the group's imminent doom due to the stress of success and the strain of relationships between band members.

Delays in the arrival of the new album, originally expected this summer but now due from Capitol Records on August 26, only rekindled suggestions of troubles in the camp.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin says he enjoys hearing these rumours, and doesn't deny that the group has faced several challenges in its brief career. And yes, he's even willing to entertain the thought that perhaps A Rush Of Blood To The Head is Coldplay's last record.But Martin's reasons seem far more complex than what others have theorized. He tells LAUNCH, "The way I look at it is, that we could die at any point, you know? We're on airplanes all the time and, you know, life to me seems very fragile and there's no point in saving songs for your 15th record because you might never get to your 15th record. There's no point in saving energy on a concert because you got a concert the next day, you know? So it might be our last record, I don't know. We won't make another record unless it's better, and at the moment we really don't have anything left."

As Coldplay has started promoting its next album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, band frontman and main spokesperson Chris Martin has discovered that many people outside the United Kingdom don't know the expression used for its title.

He tells LAUNCH, "I think it must be exclusive to England, what it means, because everywhere we go people are, like, 'What is this? Does it mean you're embarrassed? Are you blushing? Have you some problem with your ears?' 'No,' is the answer." Martin does his best to clarify. "The phrase...when you do something on impulse, you know, when you suddenly think, 'Right, I'm gonna go to Paris today,' or 'I'm gonna ask Rachel Weisz to marry me,' or 'I'm gonna ring up J. Lo and say, "Let's do a remix album,"' whatever. Basically, when you suddenly feel really alive, you know?"

A Rush Of Blood To The Head, featuring the single "In My Place," arrives August 27 from Capitol Records. Coldplay will promote the album with a club tour in select U.S. cities that month, with a series of dates in larger venues in September.

"We are really sorry to everyone who hasn't managed to get the tickets they wanted for the US Club tour.

The venues for each show are very very small and to make sure that coldplay.com fans had the first chance of getting tickets we wanted to offer them to all registered fans first.

Even though we only did this however there was still a huge demand on the tickets from the start and we know that a lot of people didn't get a chance before they were sold out. Some venues sold out in just over 15 mins, quicker than we had thought.Our email system sent out the advance warning email to all registered members yesterday, but we didn't realise until this morning that it was going so slowly and thus that is why some people will have got their notification later than others. To rectify this we sent out over 2,000 manual emails this afternoon to people on the site as you probably saw from the news article and we tried to make sure everyone got a fair go at getting them, I'm sorry if you didn't.
