Coldplay will play an MTV2 $2 Bill Show on August 2nd in Chicago at the Vic Theater before the launch of their intimate U.S. club tour on August 6th in Boston.

The group has also been booked to perform on Late Show with David Letterman on CBS on August 22nd and is working out plans for a full North American tour for this September.

The band are due to play a show at the Wembley Arena on October 20 as part of their massive arena tour. That show has now almost sold out, so a second show has been added for the following night (October 21). Tickets for the extra show go on sale tomorrow (July 9). The full tour calls at:

An nme.com reader has explained how he nudged Chris Martin out of a job by evading London Royal Festival Hall security and stormed the stage at the band's Meltdown gig to take over the mic for ‘Yellow’.

So who was this interloper - a budding star or a pissed-up twat? He was tracked him down via a manhunt posted on nme.com and it turns out he is a bit of both! Patrick Harvey, 26, from Birmingham told NME he’d spent an afternoon drinking wine to give him the Dutch courage to upstage Martin and sing the band’s biggest hit before thousands of fans at the Royal Festival Hall.He explained that he’d travelled down with his girlfriend to the highbrow event organised by David Bowie and that they’d downed at least three bottles of plonk between them before hitting the beer at the gig.

As the band struck up the first chords of ‘Yellow’, he along with hundreds of other fans sprang from their seats and poured through the auditorium to the front of the stage.

But then the alcohol kicked in. He explained: "I saw them going down, I thought 'I'll have a bit of that', but I went down the right side so I was on my own. I was feeling a bit left out so I thought 'Bollocks to it, I'm getting up on stage man!'.

"I was surprised that no-one was trying to jump on the stage themselves. Because the stage was so low and there was nobody about I just bent my leg and up I was! I think someone came on stage to get me and Chris (Martin) waved him away."

On a spur of the moment, he then grabbed the microphone off Martin and sang the rest of the song to rapturous applause. However, he said his moment as frontman almost passed him by because he was trying to get his girlfriend to join him.

"I wasn't really paying much attention." He joked. "Because my girlfriend was up on the balcony I was trying to tell her to come down and join me but she was having none of it! Have I still got a girlfriend? Yeah man, she's well impressed, she's been telling everybody!"

After the gig, Coldplay fans, including Natalie Imbruglia came up to him and congratulated him on a fine vocal performance. "Natalie came up to me and said 'It's Gareth Gates' so I replied 'It's Kylie's friend!'"

Patrick had travelled to the show with his girlfriend, 25-year-old Emma Mylett, who said she was impressed with the song. "I only did it for a bit of a giggle and never expected it to go as far as it did."

Coldplay even gave him the thumbs up with drummer Will Champion telling NME : "Fair play to him!" Coldplay were not able to comment as to whether they would be offering Patrick a permanent position in the band.

Coldplay rounded off the first day at Glastonbury 2002 with a set showcasing songs from their new album.

Frontman Chris Martin thanked the audience for making the festival so special as they watched the band headline the Pyramid Stage. He said Coldplay had effectively been preparing for this concert for 25 years.

Chris was in good humour on stage, apologising several times for not being Rod Stewart - who is due to play at the festival later in the weekend. He also jokingly referred to the strict new security measures implemented this year by changing the lyrics to one track and singing, "If you're outside the fence without a ticket, you'll have to watch it on... telly."This set was the highlight of the opening day of Glastonbury 2002, who delivered a career defining performance headlining the main stage.

In one of those Glastonbury 'moments' that brought to mind previous triumphs from the likes of Radiohead and Pulp, lead singer Chris Martin frequently appeared lost for words. A daring set - equal parts new and familiar material - was lapped up by a crowd too often served meat and two veg in the coveted slot.

Surprisingly, the highlights came from the new material, which was a revelation, including a triumphant rendition of forthcoming single, 'In My Place'.

In the run-up to the event Chris Martin revealed that the band were taking the gig very seriously. "It's all we've been thinking about for a year," he told the Glastonbury programme.

"While we were making the new record we knew we'd have the chance of headlining Glastonbury and I think deep down that really energised me."

Friday night at Glastonbury for the band is being heralded as a major success by fans and critics alike. Before the gig Chris Martin had described the headlining slot as ‘the most important day of our lives.’

Chris Martin tells Q about the new Coldplay songs we can expect to hear at the festival. "It's all we've been talking about for a year," says Coldplay’s Chris Martin about the band’s headlining slot at the Pyramid Stage on Friday night.

"This concert for us has been the motivation for everything we've been trying to do. It's the most important evening of our lives."

Is he getting over-excited? Not necessarily, because for Martin, Coldplay’s appearance at Glastonbury is the latest in a long line of events that has seen the group expand their horizons by getting involved in charity work. Earlier this year, Martin travelled with Emily Eavis to Haiti to take a look first hand at the work Oxfam is doing in under-developed areas."A lot of the reason we thought why we've got to do Glastonbury is we got really involved in the Oxfam Fair Trade campaign," he explains. "We've got to be good because now we've got more responsibility than just our own careers."

Speaking of Coldplay’s career, their forthcoming album A Rush Of Blood To The Head will get an exclusive preview at Glastonbury, with the band planning to unveil a handful of new tracks live.

"The new single is In My Place," Martin reveals in the latest issue of Q. "It's basically the tune that kept us together last year. Jonny Buckland's guitar riff is my favourite riff of his ever. The Scientist is the only song we've ever written and recorded all on the same day. It's about when you start analysing things too much", while Clocks is apparently being saved for the next record, because – worryingly – "There's a death obsession round the band at the moment". Meanwhile, Politik hints at Coldplay’s new direction: "It’s turned into the loudest song we've ever done."

Coldplay singer Chris Martin says their new LP is about 'getting things done now' and 'a fear of dying'.

He says it's good to feel life is short because is makes you live each day to the full. Coldplay's new LP A Rush Of Blood To The Head is out this summer, preceded by a new single In My Place.

He told NME: "The record's about how you must do things now because time is short. Whether it's falling love or stopping evil global corporations, you've got to do it now, not put it off. "Part of the driving force behind that is fear of dying. Obviously, the other part of that is just fear of losing my hair. It's good to feel life is short, because that makes you live every day to the maximum. It makes you not give a s**t about people who don't like you."

There was drama towards the end of the gig (June 22) as the band began their hit 'Yellow'. Huge swathes of the all-seated auditorium suddenly stood up and ran to the front of the stage with one young man breaching security and jumping up next to the band. As security guards attempted to catch the stage invader and haul him off, the band intervened and told them to leave him be. The interloper then grabbed the microphone from Chris Martin and proceeded to sing the song himself.

Coldplay continue their UK tour tonight at Bath, which leads up to a massive headline appearance at this weekend's Glastonbury Festival on June 28.

CHRIS MARTIN has revealed how an unlikely friendship with Echo and the Bunnymen singer Ian McCulloch inspired the new Coldplay album.

Speaking exclusively to nme.com, Martin revealed that he even donned McCulloch’s trademark raincoat when he recorded new single ‘In My Place’. McCulloch was in the studio with the band at the time.

The pair have recently joined each other on stage. Chris Martin performed with Echo And The Bunnymen at New Order’s Finsbury Park gig on Sunday, June 9 for a version of the Bunnymen’s 1997 hit 'Nothing Lasts Forever'. Liam Gallagher supplied the original backing vocal.Martin revealed how the band met when Coldplay chose to record their album in Liverpool. "Mac being in Liverpool was great," he said. "He's from Liverpool, and shares a manager with Ken (Nelson), our producer. We met in the bar which was right next to the studio. We just bumped into each other.

"I've met various people who've made me more and more at peace with what I do musically with my friends. Tim Wheeler, Danny McNamara and other people, but with Mac because he's so infamous and he's so as you expect when you meet him, all cigarettes and sunglasses you're shit-scared for a bit, but then you realise that what's driving him is the same as what's driving you and your band.

"What I love about Ian, and obviously I love the Bunnymen and I love his singing, but also he's not scared of anyone. He certainly doesn't show it anyway. Whereas I'd say, 'I've met David Bowie', he'd say, 'No, no, no. It's David Bowie met me.'" I thought, 'Right, yeah.'

"I used to try to buy him soup and we struck up a bizarre friendship," explained the Coldplay singer. "Mac sometimes has a drink and he's harder to talk to then. When I was doing the vocals for 'In My Place' I was wearing his coat. He was sat there, really pissed on red wine. He just kept saying, 'Go on, son. Go on.'"

‘In My Place’ is released on August 12, followed by the album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ on August. 26.

The confirmation arrives from Coldplay.com... as of today, date of release, tracklist and the artwork are unknown, but it's sure that White Shadows will be released for Australia only.

"World Trade Center" will have its red-carpet premiere tonight at the Ziegfeld Theater, but celebration will be kept to a minimum.

A half-hour show with Stone, co-stars Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena, as well as Jimeno, has been running on MTV. And a TV commercial for the film features "Fix You," a popular tune by the rock band Coldplay that's not on the soundtrack.

The film's official Web site, wtcmovie.com, and Paramount's promotional page on myspace.com feature interviews with 18 people close to what happened. They include the wives of the two main characters, Donna McLoughlin and Allison Jimeno, and uniformed responders to the WTC attacks.In one striking departure, there will be no gala reception afterward. That's because the audience will include not just the film's stars and handlers, but also survivors of the terror attacks and others shattered by the loss of loved ones. "It seemed inappropriate to do something festive," said Michael Shamberg, one of the film's producers. "While the film celebrates the best in people, the night will be low-key," he added. "I'll have to steel myself before going," said Charles Wolf, whose wife, Katherine, worked in the WTC's north tower. "This is a movie, and I know how it turns out," he added. "But I'm going to go steeled, to protect myself from an emotional crush."

Gov. Pataki, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly are also due to attend, along with those Shamberg called "our most honored guests" - the 50 cops, firefighters and other responders who worked on the film. "World Trade Center," directed by Oliver Stone, recounts the ordeal of Port Authority cops John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno. They were buried under rubble until rescuers risked their own lives to free them.

In marketing the hard-hitting film, which opens nationwide next Wednesday, Paramount has been using many of those portrayed on screen - and is heavily targeting young viewers. At a recent screening, Shamberg recalled, one young man said, "This [9/11] is like our Kennedy assassination."

Michael Fleming, veteran Hollywood watcher with Daily Variety, said he couldn't predict how "World Trade Center" will do at the box office. "The big challenge for Paramount is to get people to want to replay such a horrible day," he said.

Sheila says: Oh Magni, you are, dare I say it, better than this competition. Get together with The House Band and go on the road. I will be in the front row with the rest of your groupies. Bringing his family here renews my faith in rockers that sometimes appear like so much ego.

Raul says: If someone can pull off this song by Coldplay, Magni can. And he starts off spectacularly well. He seems to have some trouble with the falsettos near the end, but still delivers a solid and ultimately likeable performance. Supernova agrees. Gilby calls Magni awesome. Jason says that Magni continues to set the bar for this competition, week after week. It looks like after a stumble on the opening week, Magni has launched himself into the lead group, along with others such as Toby, Lukas and Dilana. Let's hope Magni keeps up this level of performance.

COLDPLAY's New Single "In My Place" has hit airwaves over the world recently. A dead-certain, cast-iron classic built around descending melatron chords and a gorgeous riff from guitarist Jonny Buckland, "In My Place" is Coldplay's first single from their forth-coming album A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

"In My Place" will also be released as a commercial retail single on Tuesday, August 6. The single also contains a previously unreleased Bonus Track "One I Loved" that will not be included on the full-length album.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head was produced by the band and Ken Nelson (the same team responsible for Parachutes) and recorded at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool and AIR Studios in London. The album features eleven new songs. Although still recognisably Coldplay, it's more energetic and uptempo than their debut. Fuelled by a new confidence and instilled with a sense of urgency, Coldplay have delivered an album that surpasses even their own incredibly high standards. With A Rush Of Blood To The Head they have created a masterpiece, this years defining record.

Coldplay will play at the Glastonbury Festival in June and will embark on a full UK tour in the Autumn, followed by dates in North America.

Coldplay have announced the cancellation of the gig at Portsmouth Pyramids on June 25th 2002. In the run up to the new album release, demands on the bands time and energies are such that the band have deemed it necessary to remove this gig from the diary.

Coldplay offer their fullest apologies to all those who have bought tickets for this gig, but hope that they can make it to the bands appearance at Bournemouth International on October 14th where their Portsmouth tickets will be valid. Coldplay will contact ticket holders individually with further details.
