Steve Lamacq will debut the new Coldplay single, In My Place, on his Radio 1 show on Thursday, 8-10pm. The group's official website will preview the single from Friday at 12pm.

Meanwhile, they have cancelled their show at Portsmouth's Pyramid Centre on June 25. The band's new album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, will be released on August 26.

Coldplay kick off a UK and European tour at Edinburgh's Queens Hall on June 19.

The tour wraps at the Paris Olympia on August 27.

Coldplay has released the track listing for its August 27 release A Rush Of Blood To The Head, which was produced by the band with Parachutes producer Ken Nelson. The first single from the album, which was recorded at Beatles producer George Martin's AIR studios in London, is "In My Place."

Tracks included on A Rush Of Blood To The Head: "Politik (sic)," "In My Place," "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face," "The Scientist," "Clocks," "Daylight," "Green Eyes," "Warning Sign," "A Whisper (sic)," "A Rush Of Blood To The Head," and "Amsterdam."

COLDPLAY are planning to cover DAVID BOWIE at their forthcoming MELTDOWN show.

The group are finishing their second album, which as revealed by NME.COM will be titled 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head'. Songs from the album will be played the Bowie organised festival at the London Royal Festival Hall on June 22. Group member Will Champion told Radio 1 that they were planning a tribute to their curator, and even hinted he might join them onstage. He said, "Hopefully at Meltdown, which we've been asked to do by David Bowie, which is quite an honour, we're going to try and cover a song by the great man. There might be a surprise guest appearance."

Following the show, the band are confirmed for this year's Glastonbury festival.

COLDPLAY have finally confirmed their appearance at Glastonbury 2002.

The group, who are set to debut material from their second album 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' at David Bowie's Meltdown Festival at the London Royal Festival Hall (June 22), are set to play at the 100,000 capacity event on the Friday (June 28). Glastonbury has now sold out.

Coldplay are definitely NOT splitting after the release of their second album, worldpop can exclusively reveal. Despite inaccurate reports on other music websites, a spokesperson for the band told worldpop 'the comments that you may have read elsewhere are totally flippant and were taken out of context. For the record, Coldplay are not splitting!'

Chris Martin and the band are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album which has now been given a tile of A Rush Of Blood To The Head. As previously reported on worldpop, the follow up to Parachutes has now been delayed while the band completes the mixing of the new songs.

Originally scheduled for late June to coincide with a possible Glastonbury appearance, the band's spokesperson confirmed to worldpop that 'late summer' is now looking likely for a release.A possible track listing has also been published on Coldplay's official website, and the band insider told worldpop that no decision has been taken yet regarding the first single release.

Publishing track lists ahead of the release of an album has become a sensitive issue recently, making it easier for fans to search the internet to download songs that may have been leaked. Oasis fell foul of this last week with all 11 tracks from Heathen Chemistry now freely available three months prior to the album release.

Commenting on the publishing of the Coldplay album track details, the band's spokesperson told worldpop:

'It's a delicate balance. We need to supply details upfront, but we don't want the trust to be abused.'

Coldplay's record company has denied rumours that the band's new album could be their last.

The story rumbling around on the Internet today is that lead singer Chris Martin thinks the album, 'A Rush of Blood to the Head', is so good he's willing to quit while he's ahead and end the band on a high.

But when Radio 1 spoke to their record company they said the group had signed a five album deal, so there is no need to worry just yet.

COLDPLAY have titled their new album 'A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD', and it could be their last, according to vocalist CHRIS MARTIN.

In a world exclusive, Martin has told NME.COM that if he can't improve on their forthcoming album, which is due for release in the summer, then it will be their last.

When asked how many albums Coldplay will make, he said: "As far as I'm concerned this will be the last one we ever make. But I hope that one day we have some more songs, you know?"NME.COM asked him to explain his remarks, to which he replied: "If someone said 'You've got to start a new album tomorrow' I'd say 'I don't think we can do better than this'. We'll only do another album if we think it'll be better. I don't really care about the whole 15 album thing. I like the whole Joy Division approach, two albums then...well, not hang yourself!"

Coldplay are just weeks away from finishing the much anticipated follow up to their 2000 debut 'Parachutes', they have revealed.

The band, who plan to release the album later on this year, have finished recording and are now on the mixing stage of the final tracks, according to Phil Harvey their manager.

On the band's official website, he said: "The recording is all finished so at least we know we've got the songs. Now it's a question of doing the recordings justice by mixing them properly." "Mixing a track can take anything between a couple of hours to six weeks (as has been the case on a couple of songs this time around). To a musical philistine like myself, the process appears to consist of playing a track hundreds and hundreds of times over and over again until you feel like you couldn't possibly listen to it ever again.

"Of course, this is nonsense. Mixing is an absolutely crucial part of making an album and is incredibly hard to do well. This time around producer Ken Nelson and the band have decided to do it themselves and are proving to be as adept at knob twiddling as they are at everything else."

He added: "I won't degrade the work they've done by hyping it in my journal but basically, it's fucking good."

British rockers rushing to finish "Parachutes" follow-up

Coldplay are putting the finishing touches the follow-up to their breakthrough debut, Parachutes. Currently working in George Martin's Air Studios in London, the group is once again using the production skills of Ken Nelson. The album is scheduled for released in June, but bass player Guy Berryman isn't sure that will allow the band enough time to complete it.

"It's panic stations at the moment because we've got a deadline we're trying to meet," Berryman says. "And I don't think we're going to meet it. We've got a lot of pressure on us. We're trying our best, but if we think we haven't done it justice, then we're going to have to spend longer. Whenever we deliver it, it will mean it's finished. I'd hate to rush the end of the record, rush the mixes because we have to get it in on time."The album's lead single -- tentatively titled "In My Place" -- is scheduled to hit radio in two weeks. Like the rest of the new album, it combines the same recipe of shimmering guitars and emotional outpourings that garnered Coldplay heavy radio and video rotation with their past singles "Yellow" and "Trouble."

"It sounds like Coldplay," Berryman says of the album as whole. "You'll recognize it as being us, but it's more energetic and upbeat, more confident. We've grown as people and musicians and we're quite confident we're going to deliver a record that meets all our fans' expectations. I think we've come up with a good follow-up."

The group's success hasn't had much of an effect on the songwriting process, according to Berryman, who points out eighty-five of the new album was written while on tour. "I don't think we've been influenced massively by our success and by our travels," he says. "The lyrics [singer Chris Martin] writes are more basic than that, more basic, emotional ideas rather than life experiences. There's probably a few lines in there which reflect what's happened in the last year or so, but it's hard to say."

The list of the top tours for the first half of 2006 is predictably weighted toward veteran rockers, but the lineup also yields a few surprises from developing acts and new arena productions.

At the top of the list, compiled from figures reported to Billboard Boxscore from November 1, 2005, through mid-May, as they have been virtually every time they are on the road for the past three decades, are the Rolling Stones.

One of the few relatively new acts among the top midyear tours is Coldplay. The band followed up last summer's successful tour with a run through arenas that rang up grosses of nearly $30 million and attendance of more than 450,000. "The year is going very well," Coldplay manager Dave Holmes modestly says. "The U.S. arena leg that ran from January 25 to March 6 was a tremendous success, with all but a couple of the dates doing sellout business."

Coldplay wraps a sold-out arena tour of Australia this summer, and then heads to Asia. "This has been their best year ever," Holmes says.The Stones' Bigger Bang tour reported $147.3 million in grosses from 45 shows in U.S. arenas and international stadiums.

Though not without its drama -- including brain surgery for guitarist Keith Richards following a bizarre accident in Fiji, and another rehab stint for Ron Wood -- the Stones lurched back into gear July 11 for a European stadium run that could make Bigger Bang the top-grossing tour ever.

The Stones just announced that they will return to North American in the fall. "It's kind of astounding when it keeps improving 43 years later," says Michael Cohl, the band's promoter.

While it's doubtful it would have passed its elder brethren, U2 would have improved its already hefty take of $73 million for the period had it not postponed dates in New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Hawaii because of a family illness.

Still, U2's mega-trek is unarguably one of the most successful tours ever. "The Vertigo tour was an absolute success worldwide," says Vertigo producer Arthur Fogel, music chairman of Live Nation and head of TNA, the firm's international touring division.

Most of the U2 dollars in the midyear report come from Latin American Vertigo stops.

"The shows in Mexico and South America continued the incredible feat of not one unsold ticket," says Fogel.

Bon Jovi's world tour in support of its "Have a Nice Day" album has delivered big time.

Bon Jovi is the third-highest-grossing act for the period, reporting more than $65 million and 866,873 in attendance, selling out 54 of 57 shows.

"We broke the Bon Jovi legs up into fall '05 and the first and second quarters of '06," AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips notes. "Had we played all the dates in one year, including the summer stadium dates, we would have vied for top tour."

Phillips points out that Bon Jovi was the only act other than U2 to play four sold-out Air Canada Center shows in Toronto. "Also, we played six arenas in the New York metro area, and are now almost clean on three Giant Stadiums in the same market," Phillips adds.

Bon Jovi will be on the road in the United States and Europe through most of the summer.

Billy Joel's return to the road last winter was nothing short of spectacular, selling out 33 of 34 dates and ringing up multiples in many markets, including a record-setting 12 sellouts at New York's Madison Square Garden that grossed $19.2 million.

"The true 'hall of famers' are the artists that can fill arenas night after night," says Dennis Arfa, Joel's longtime agent at Artists Group International.

A rare newcomer to the touring elite is Cirque du Soleil's "Delirium," a new arena product that has quickly become a force to be reckoned with. Since January, "Delirium" has grossed almost $40 million from 64 shows and moved nearly 450,000 tickets.

"The great thing about this tour is it's kind of a fusion of music and art," says Brad Wavra, point person on "Delirium" for Live Nation, which is producing the tour. "For the first time in a long time we've created a different type of arena entertainment."

Most importantly, this is not a one-shot deal. "It's not dependent on a hit song or a pop star," Wavra says. "People seem to be coming back again."

Road veteran Aerosmith again asserted its authority this winter, grossing more than $35 million from 32 dates on a tour that was cut short because of throat problems for singer Steven Tyler. The good news is that Aerosmith will strike even harder later this year with a co-headlining run with Motley Crue called the Route of All Evil.

Luis Miguel's 30-show engagement January 18-February 27 at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City grossed $19.3 million and drew 267,528 fans, the linchpin for more than $25 million in grosses for the period. The Auditorio Nacional number is believed to be the biggest gross in the history of Mexico and one of the top global indoor grosses of all time.

"He probably could have done more" shows, says Peter Grosslight, worldwide head of music for the William Morris Agency, which books Miguel.

The Auditorio Nacional stand wrapped a 101-date tour that started last September in the United States and then played Argentina, Chile and Uruguay before beginning the Mexican run in January. Grosslight says the tour's total gross was north of $60 million, which he believes could make it the top-grossing tour ever by a Latin artist.

The fact that the period covered includes most of the holiday season gives the Trans-Siberian Orchestra a chance to flex its box-office muscle in the chart. TSO -- a rock holiday extravaganza that incorporates elaborate staging, metal mixed with Christmas carols and dazzling visuals -- has become a winter staple.

For the period, TSO reports grosses of close to $24 million and attendance of 629,145 from 81 performances. "TSO continues to defy conventional formulas," says Marc Geiger, responsible agent for TSO at William Morris. "Their growth year over year is a true success story."

Rounding out the top 10 is Paul McCartney, with the eight shows that wrapped his huge 2005 U.S. tour. They grossed $17.6 million and drew nearly 120,000 people.

For the rest of the top 25, notable successes include Depeche Mode ($17.6 million), Nickelback ($17.4 million), Take That ($16.3 million), Gwen Stefani ($11.6 million) and Brad Paisley ($14.2 million).

Just getting under way and sure to scale higher chart positions by year's end are Kenny Chesney ($15.3 million), Pearl Jam ($15.6 million), Tim McGraw/Faith Hill ($14.3 million), Rascal Flatts ($12.2 million), Dave Matthews Band ($10 million) and Fall Out Boy ($9.8 million).

The emergence of Fall Out Boy is good news for an industry needing new headliners. "We're very excited how the FOB tour went," Fall Out Boy manager Bob McLynn says. "They've built it from the ground up. Kind of surreal to see the same little band selling out all these arenas."

Absent from the chart but sure to make a major dent in the year-end totals are Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Barbra Streisand and Eric Clapton.

Oxfam International will give Coldplay fans at a Mountain View, California, concert on Friday a chance to use text messaging to sign a petition advocating changes in trade laws.

Prior to the concert, Oxfam will show a video featuring Chris Martin, Coldplay's lead singer and an Oxfam spokesman, and the international anti-poverty organization will encourage concert-goers to sign onto Oxfam's Big Noise petition by immediately texting their e-mail addresses to "TRADE" (87233) on their cell phones.

The addresses will be captured and cataloged, and through a system based on Sun Microsystems Inc. technology, Oxfam can send reply e-mail messages to those who participated in the text messaging. That will let Oxfam set up a direct e-mail dialogue with them so they can get further involved with Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign.

The campaign aims to create fair trade laws to help poor countries grow their economies, said Najat Elsayed, Coldplay tour volunteer coordinator for Oxfam America. Elsayed said that Oxfam has found a direct link between unfair trade laws and poverty in nations where farming is a big source of income for local population.

The text-messaging event is happening throughout Coldplay's world tour, which lasts through November. Encouraging concert-goers to text message will help Oxfam garner more participation in Make Trade Fair then it would have generated by just providing information at shows, Elsayed said. Oxfam also will have booths set up to sign up attendees at the concerts.

Sun is providing Sun Fire v20z and v40z servers running the Solaris 10 operating system and Java Enterprise System software as the infrastructure that enables the text-messaging and e-mail responses. The platform is part of Sun's "Share the Opportunity" initiative, which uses technology to call tech-savvy young people to social action, said Rhodes Klement , director of global brand and advertising for Sun.

"Technology is allowing people to participate and get involved in world-changing events," Klement said. "We want to build the infrastructure that makes that possible."

Sun held similar events using this text-messaging platform to support charitable organizations during Irish rock band U2's world tour earlier this year, and at Live 8 concerts in Philadelphia and Edinburgh, Scotland, he said.

Oxfam hopes to have 10 million signatures on the Big Noise petition when the group delivers it to the World Trade Organization leaders at its meeting in Hong Kong in December, Elsayed said.

EMI Group, as part of a larger effort to support peer-to-peer networks that allow the sharing of licensed music files, has agreed to share its digital library with P2P start-up Mashboxx.

The record label, whose 1000-plus artists include Janet Jackson, Gorillaz, the Rolling Stones and Coldplay, is not the first to license its content for use on Mashboxx. According to founder Wayne Rosso, the New York-based Mashboxx--currently readying for a beta test launch--already has deals with Sony BMG and Universal, and has completed negotiations with Warner Music.

Rosso has spent the past two years building the infrastructure for Mashboxx, an idea that he credits in part to his business ties with former Sony BMG CEO Andrew Lack. In 2002, while serving as president of now-defunct P2P powerhouse Grokster (a position he had left by the time the company started hitting the worst of its legal trouble), Rosso worked with Lack to try to solve the problem of illegal file-sharing. Rather than try to fight the record labels, Rosso wanted to "convert" to a format the labels would support, without resorting to a P2P model that simply filtered out major-label content. Napster had recently tried that, and failed. At that point, Rosso said, a legal P2P that nevertheless offered a full range of music wasn't possible. "The technology hadn't really matured to the point that it could be done effectively."

By 2004, technological developments made legal P2P feasible, but putting the business together was still an uphill climb. "It's taken almost two years to get all the licenses together," Rosso explained. "Building the technology is not easy."

One of the reasons is that Mashboxx won't operate in a "walled garden" environment that would only allow users to connect to other Mashboxx users. Instead, the Mashboxx client will follow the path of those who use more traditional peer-to-peer services, connecting to established file-sharing networks like Gnutella. With Mashboxx, music enthusiasts can still search for a song and download it free of charge.

But this is where the licensing comes in. A song downloaded from Mashboxx--as are songs downloaded from fellow "legal P2P" iMesh--is entirely free if it's "unclaimed" by a record label. If a label has agreed to license the song, however, it's only playable five times before the person who downloaded it needs to pay a fee. (If a label licenses a song that Mashboxx users had already been sharing, Rosso noted, anyone who had downloaded the file before the label "claimed" it would not have to pay the newly instituted fee.)

The fee for purchasing a Mashboxx-downloaded song will be 99 cents.

Peer-to-peer networks might still be virtually synonymous with music piracy, but a growing number have begun switching to a label-friendly format, hoping to provide an alternative to the storefront model that characterizes most online music stores. Some, including iMesh, were once free, unregulated networks that switched to label-friendly content, as happened very recently to former file-sharing giant Kazaa. Others, like Mashboxx and the ad-supported Qtrax, were founded with legal content in mind.

Despite the fact that the online music-purchasing market is already dominated by retailers like Apple Computer's iTunes Music Store and RealNetworks' Rhapsody, EMI spokesperson Adam Grossberg said the company is enthusiastic about the potential success of labels' partnerships with the growing number of legal P2P services.

In addition to Mashboxx, EMI has negotiated deals with iMesh, Peer Impact, QTrax and the European service GNAB. "We certainly think that legal P2P would offer a great consumer experience," he says. "It's good for fans, good for music artists, and good for the digital community as a whole," he said.

A Major rock festival is planned for Douglas in 2007

Proposals are in the pipeline for the Rock The Rock Isle of Man Music Festival – with Noble's Park rumoured to be a potential venue.

Robbie Williams, Coldplay and other major international artists are being considered as potential acts, it is understood. More than a dozen acts could take to the stage during a two-day festival, with tickets costing more than £100. The event website – rocktherockiom.com – says the festival is 'coming soon,' though no other details are given.Aquarius Media is behind the proposals, but is remaining tight-lipped about it at this stage. It is understood the event is in the very early stages of planning. Reporters at iomtoday have heard that if the event does go ahead it could be held over two days at the end of July.

Douglas Council leader David Christian confirmed an approach has been made to the town hall and is being considered. The Department of Tourism and Leisure has also been approached. Live music is extremely popular in the Island and the Villa Marina has hosted a number of world-class rock acts over the past few years.

Such a festival would no doubt attract music fans to the Island from the UK and beyond. The Isle of Wight holds a major international rock festival each year and has managed to attract some of the biggest names in music. Festivals are incredibly popular in the UK, with Glastonbury, the V Festival and T in the Park being among the biggest.

More information about Rock The Rock could be revealed in the weeks to come.

There's speculation that Coldplay could feature in a 'concert in the park' in the Isle Of Man next summer.

Douglas Corporation has been approached by a UK operator with a view to using Noble's Park for a major rock concert in July. However, as yet, nothing has been confirmed.

Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall hopes to follow in the footsteps of Coldplay, Oasis, Queen and Black Sabbath by producing a hit record at Wales' legendary Rockfield Studios.

The star has already made herself at home in the Welsh countryside location by hiring a personal chef and securing a constant supply of alcohol to get the creative juices flowing.

She says, "We're recording in the old stables. There are more old stables next door, but they still have horses in them. They talk to each other. We've built a campfire, bought crates of booze, employed a chef - absolutely sorted."
