Coldplay have won two prizes at the My VH1 Awards in Los Angeles yesterday.

The quartet were honoured for their international achievements with the Big in Japan prize and the Best Kept Secret award.

The event was overshadowed by the death of George Harrison from cancer on Thursday, with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora opening the event with a rendition of one of the songs he wrote for the Beatles, Here Comes The Sun. The Dave Matthews Band were the big winners of the night, walking off with four awards, including best album for Everyday.

The Coldplay quartet are rounding out 2001 with a handful of U.S. dates, some of which were postponed following the September 11th terrorist attacks.

The tour kicks off on Wednesday 28th November in Providence, R.I., where the band will perform as part of WBRU-FM's 32nd Birthday Bash with Remy Zero and Delta Clutch.

On Saturday 1st December in Fairfax, Va., Coldplay joins Blink-182, the Crystal Method, System of a Down, Pete Yorn, Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd for WHFS-FM's HFSmas Holiday Nutcracker concert. Two days later, it heads to Boston for the Mix 98.5 Holiday Hoedown with Alanis Morissette, Barenaked Ladies and the Cranberries.

On December 7th, Coldplay, Staind and Travis come together for the Deck the Hall Ball in Seattle. Shows in New York and Chicago are make-up performances for shows postponed in September.

Coldplay is touring in support of its U.S. debut "Parachutes" (Nettwerk/Capitol), which was certified gold for sales of more than 500,000.

COLDPLAY played an impromptu 90-minute acoustic set at a North London pub on Friday November 23 before jetting off for their American tour on the following Sunday.

The gig at The Shepherd's Pub in Highgate was so secret, according to a spokesman for the band's record label, Parlophone, that no-one at the record company knew about it until after it had happened.

The band played as a trio due to bassist Guy Berryman crying off with a cold. Introduced by their actor friend Simon Pegg, they played old songs including 'Trouble', 'Don't Panic', 'Parachutes', and new song 'In My Place'. Thanks to some unusual requests, Coldplay covered 80s soft rock anthems 'Livin' On A Prayer' by Bon Jovi and 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns N'Roses. They also covered Sex Pistols' 'Pretty Vacant', T-Rex's '20th Century Boy' and Nancy Sinatra's Bond theme, 'You Only Live Twice'.

After playing on a makeshift stage, Coldplay asked drinkers at the packed pub to donate to the local Whittington Hospital, the birthplace of guitarist Jonny Buckland, raising £300.

Coldplay lost out to Manic Street Preachers for the Best Live Act award in the Q Awards held recently at the Park Lane hotel in London.

The first ever Latitude Festival was bought to a close yesterday(July 16), with a headline set from Mogwai.

The Scots entered to the title from cult horror film 'The Wicker Man' to deliver a packed set of post-rock before ending with a spectacular five minutes of feedback. Earlier in the day Manic Street Preacher and Mogwai[a] fan Nicky Wire performed on the Uncut Arena, show casing tracks from his forthcoming solo album 'I Killed the Zeitgeist'.

At only his third ever solo gig, Wire included covers of The Who's 'Substitute', Jonathan Richman's 'Roadrunner' and Echo & The Bunnymen song 'Ocean Rain'. Wire then criticised Chris Martin for championing Echo & The Bunnymen 20 years too late. He also played teasing excerpts from Manics tracks 'From Despair To Where' and 'Let Robeson Sing'.During his set Wire, dressed in a white suit, slammed the England Football Team's performance, let off party poppers and played poetry from a miniature tape player.

After the show, he told NME.COM: "I'm not a particularly festival person, as I'm sure you know. Dressed like this, it doesn't really go down very well, in a world of shorts but Latitude seems very nice."

Mystery Jets played an evening set in the Uncut Arena, showcasing new song 'Half In Love With Elizabeth'. The band ended their set with customary finale 'Zoo Time'.

Earlier in the day, The Pigeon Detectives played to a packed audience in the Sunrise Arena, performing the single 'You Know I Love You' for the crowd.

Sunday's performers also included Giant Drag, Mercury Rev and Regina Spektor.

Coldplay isn’t all about Chris Martin as Michael Cheang finds out after chatting with the band's drummer.

When this writer first found out that an exclusive interview with Coldplay in Singapore last week was confirmed, I was ecstatic. I couldn’t wait. Then I found out that I was going to be interviewing not Chris Martin, but the drummer, Will Champion.

Ok, well, that’s like getting to interview the Beatles, but getting Ringo Starr. It’s still not too bad. Well, it turns out that talking to Champion the Drummer was almost as good as talking to Martin the Lead Singer. According to the man himself, Coldplay is not a one-man band.

I met Chris and family (Gwyneth, Apple and Moses) outside of Starbucks (Roppongi Hills, Tokyo) hydrating on mocha frapachinos. Chris looked exhausted with the humidity/heat (94F) and being very fatherly to Apple and Moses. Look forward in seeing Coldplay on the 19th (their last show).

While his wifey, Gwyneth was inside getting Frapachino. I started small talk and broke into conversation asking him "what time is it?" (but of course he never wears a watch..), and then told him, "Welcome back to Japan, we missed you.." and "Enjoy your stay" and he politely responded back, with a "Thank You" and I went on with my day as he went on with his day.

My guess is that they either charter a private jet, or take the bullet train (450Km/h) but they stay in Tokyo, won't say the hotel (in respect for their privacy). Moving around family and kids from one city to another can be rather stressful (its also rather hot and humid these past few days), so my guess is that they did Osaka (4hrs from Tokyo via Bullet Train) on the 15th. Head back to Tokyo, go back to Nagoya (2.5hrs from Tokyo via Bullet Train) on Monday morning 17th. Head back into Tokyo and do the rest of the two shows 18th/19th and end of tour... that sounds like a busy schedule, but I am happy to see them out this way. Glad to see their family is well and enjoying themselves.

Chris Martin has revealed that he likes to travel to his own gigs by public transport.

The Coldplay singer admits that the experience puts him in a "bad mood" and believes that this encourages him to put on a better show for fans.

"I try getting to shows at the same time as everyone else," he told The Mirror. "I've been stuck in traffic, I've been on an overcrowded train and I've lined up to buy an overpriced hot dog. Quite often this will put me in a bad mood. So I know just what it's like for everyone else who is paying. It makes me more determined to get on-stage and really deliver a show that makes it all worthwhile for everyone."

Chris Martin, lead singer of the band Coldplay, reportedly insulted U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney at a recent press conference in Hong Kong.

TMZ.com reported that the 29-year-old singer added the verbal jab to Cheney while he was answering questions about the potential disbanding of Coldplay.

You know, if you don't like (the music), just listen to something else, said Martin. We'd much rather have a fight with Dick Cheney, you know -- people who really do things that we consider to be bad.While Martin's political comment may have shocked those at the press conference, his answers to questions about the new Coldplay album, and a possible breakup, may have shocked the band's fans.

Coldplay front man Chris Martin has fuelled speculation that the band are set to split.

Speaking in Hong Kong, Martin [pictured] admitted that it might be some time before the band release another album.

"We won't do another album until we think we've written the best songs in history, and that could take a while, so we could be waiting, 20 years or 50 years. Who knows? All we know is we're playing this evening in Hong Kong." he said. "And tomorrow, we don't know what's happening. So our next record seems like a long way away."Martin and fellow band members Guy Berryman (Bass), Johnny Buckland (Guitar) and Will Champion (drums) are in Asia for their Twisted Logic Tour.

They used a press conference ahead of the gig to talk about their commitment to the Fair Trade campaign. The Oxfam initiative lobbies against trade policies that hurt developing countries, such as the influx of goods from developed countries.

Martin said that the band did not want to impose its political beliefs on others but felt an obligation to use their celebrity for a good cause. "We're just musicians and obviously we are not as well versed as many politicians are," he said. "But if we can just get those words into every article that's written about us, then we're doing our job."

When talking about why they don't get into fights with other bands, Chris Martin spoke out against the second in command, "You know, if you don't like [the music], just listen to something else. We'd much rather have a fight with Dick Cheney, you know - people who really do things that we consider to be bad." The comment brought laughs from the crowd and prompted the moderator to add, "Did everybody hear that?"

Razorlight's Johnny Borrell - never likely to be confused with the protagonist behind the Beastie Boys' 'Johnny Ryall' - has told free newspaper Metro about the band's brand-new album, Razorlight.

The singer said that his band's second record, the follow-up to Up All Night, was never going to be a gloomy affair:

"I was determined to make a positive record. It's all autobiographical, but I hate it when bands release a gloomy second album about how tough it is being famous. Actually, there's a lot about belief on this record. "I'm very proud. Do I think it's better than Up All Night? Fuck Yeah!"

He also told the 'paper that he now enjoys Coldplay, which we assume means he didn't particularly rate them before: "If you'd have asked me about Coldplay when I was 18, I'd have said, 'Fuck off, I hate them'. But seeing them perform, it occurred to me they're great."

Which is a nice change from the standard one-band-slags-another news, isn't it? Razorlight is out on Monday (July 17).

Hong Kong, China (AHN) - Chris Martin of Coldplay says that the band doesn't want to impose its political beliefs on others, but the band members feel it's their responsibility to use their celebrity status to bring attention to important issues.

The band supports Oxfam's fair trade campaign, which lobbies against trade policies that negatively affect developing countries, such as the influx of goods from developed countries.

Martin said at a news conference in Hong Kong before a Coldplay concert on Thursday "We don't want to be preachy, we just say those words (fair trade), and make sure people look it up themselves. When one or two people take pictures of us, we feel like we could start advertising something we care about."

Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. These names probably don't ring a bell.

They are members of Coldplay, one of the United Kingdom's biggest bands. You'll probably only recognise the lead singer - Chris Martin - yes, he who is married to Hollywood A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow and has two tots, Apple and Moses.

Martin has become so synonymous with the band's name, everyone knows him as the face and voice of Coldplay. But the other members don't seem to mind playing

second fiddle.Guitarist Buckland, 27, told The New Paper, tongue firmly in cheek: 'Chris is the face, Will is the leg, Guy is the arm and I'm the chest hair.'

The band was in town to perform on Monday night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium as part of its Twisted Logic tour. The show was to launch the inaugural MTV Centrestage Singapore, which is a celebration of live music.

Buckland had a practical reply about Martin hogging the band's limelight. 'Actually, that happens to all bands, with the exception of the Beatles, 'cos they have two singers... So it's rare that the lead singers aren't the face of the band. Besides, I am happy being the chest hair... We feel kinda dizzy when we are standing in front,' he said.

Naturally, most of the questions directed to Buckland were about Martin, who decided to grant only selected interviews to members of the press, even if some had come as far away as Indonesia. Yet, the guitarist remained unfailingly polite.

When asked if the band became known only after Martin, 29, began dating Oscar-winner Paltrow, 34, Buckland simply said: 'All press is good press.' And although Paltrow has been known to trot along for her hubby's worldwide performances, she wasn't on this tropical tour, he added.

Buckland's girlfriend didn't make it either. But he plans to make it up to her. 'I will be going to Hawaii with my girlfriend to unwind after the tour,' he said.

Coldplay is known as a serious rock band, with its serious lyrics and socially-conscious themes. Apart from fronting the Fair Trade Agreement campaign, Martin also spoke against the Iraq war in 2003. The band has also refused to allow its music to be used for product endorsements, even thought it has received requests from big brands like Gap and Gatorade.

'People buy our music and it means something. I think if you sell them (for endorsements), we would be degrading the music... If we had given a song that we've done to, say, a mobile phone or shampoo, it'd mean a lot less,' explained Buckland.

However, he dismissed suggestions that Martin would enter politics one day or be the next Bono, the frontman for Irish band U2 who is actively involved in anti-war and anti-poverty campaigns. 'We kind of do what we believe in and I think Bono is one of a kind,' he said. As for being a rock star, Buckland says the 'whole lifestyle is kind of strange'.

Which is why he's planned his retirement - to be a 'sheep farmer in Kathmandu'. 'There are sheep in Kathmandu, right?' he asked cheekily.
