Chris Martin is keen to release a new Coldplay album within the next twelve months.

The singer has admitted that he wasn't satisfied with the quality of current album X&Y, and feels that the group were rushed into releasing it by EMI.

"A lot of the songs we had written for X&Y didn't make it on to the final album and looking back at them now, they certainly should have done," Chris told the Daily Star.

"By the time we had to pick what was and wasn't going on, it was very late in the day and a lot of the best songs have never been played since. It means X&Y wasn't as good as it could or should have been, I'm afraid. How You See The World is one of those songs. It will probably appear on an album next year with other ones that we left off."

With six nominations Nickelback dominate the nomination list for Canada's 2006 Juno Awards. The Albertan rock act garnered nominations for top group, fan's choice award and the single award for "Photograph." The band's "All the Right Reasons" (EMI Canada) was nominated in album and rock categories as well. The group and long-time co-producer Joey Moi also received a production nomination.

This year's Juno event will be celebrated over three days in Halifax, Nova Scotia beginning March 31 culminating in a two-hour April 2 televised show on the CTV network. Nickelback, Bryan Adams, Michael Buble, Bedouin Soundclash, Broken Social Scene and Coldplay are slated to perform.

Right from the first single, "Yellow," going to No. 1 at rock radio in Canada to the British pop band's No. 1 single, "Talk," Canada has embraced Coldplay.

With concerts that sell out in a minute to police escorts at radio stations, Coldplay is well aware of Canada's devotion. The most recent album, X&Y, debuted at No. 1 in 32 countries, including Canada. Their current tour includes a stop at the 2006 JUNO Awards in Halifax.

Canadian singer conjures more pop hybrid sounds on "Loose" After a year and a half spent writing new songs, traveling the world to collaborate with Pharrell Williams, Coldplay's Chris Martin and producer Nellee Hooper (No Doubt, Madonna), Nelly Furtado is finally ready to release her third album, Loose, on May 23rd.

"It was a very indulgent experience," says the eclectic Canadian pop singer. "It was actually the most idyllic sort of album-making ever. It's sort of every artist's dream, where you're flown around the world, just kind of having a good time and making music."

The album closer "All Good Things," which features Chris Martin, was actually a last-minute addition, after Furtado bumped into her old friend during August's MTV Movie Awards. "I was telling him what I was up to, and he's like, 'I love Timbaland. Can I come by?'" she recalls. "But [Tim's] like a big dude, and Chris was scared to sit down at the keyboard. I'm like, 'Chris, sit down. Let's make some music.' I'm always the instigator."In August, when it came time to lay down the tracks, Furtado turned to hip-hop talent Timbaland, who featured her on Missy Elliott's "Get UR Freak On" remix in 2001. When Interscope President Jimmy Iovine played Furtado some of the producer's latest tracks, her reaction was "Wow! It sound[ed] like he's listening to all the same stuff as me -- everything from System of a Down to Bloc Party and Death From Above 1979, and a lot of Coldplay, too." Within no time, says Furtado, "I was in Miami and having the time of my life."

Working in the evenings, the pair laid down ten of Loose's thirteen tracks, forging a new genre from their shared influences. "We call it 'punk-hop,'" she says of most of the album's sound. "We were thinking, 'Let's do modern Eurythmics -- You're Dave and I'm Annie. Let's make this modern, poppy, spooky music.' And we achieved that on some of the tracks."

The track "Maneaters," Furtado says, is "a 'couture pop' song, where it's in your face and very fashionable, stylistic and of-the-moment," while "No Hay Igual" takes its cues from reggaeton. "I didn't know what reggaeton was until I went to Miami and Pharrell's like, 'You're crazy!'" she confesses. "He played me a reggaeton song, and then I was like, 'Holy shit, it's great!'" She was inspired to write "No Hay Igual," in Spanish, nearly on the spot.

It was, in part, these spontaneous creative decisions that led Furtado to name the album Loose. "I left in all the sour notes; I left in all the giggling," she says. "It's good times."

Shares in EMI Group Plc declined after the lead singer of the band Coldplay said fans won't see them for a "long time.'' The stock recovered most of the loss after EMI said the band was "not quitting.''

Coldplay picked up two honours at last night's Brit Awards, the U.K.'s answer to the Grammy Awards, and singer Chris Martin suggested from the podium that the group would lay low.

"You won't see us for a long time,'' he said. "We mean it.'' He also said, "People are fed up with us -- and so are we.'' His comments prompted a front-page headline today in the London Evening Standard newspaper reading, "Coldplay Quit,'' with an article saying the band will "quit the music scene for up to two years.''

Shares in London-based EMI declined as much as 8 pence, or 3.2 percent, to 245 pence, before closing at 249.5 pence in London after EMI said the band would continue. "The shares were hit by the Coldplay thing,'' said Conor O'Shea, a media analyst at Teather & Greenwood in London. "They made some ambiguous comments at the Brit Awards, and the market took it badly because Coldplay is the most successful act EMI has at the moment.''

Coldplay's comments at the Brit Awards weren't the first time the band has affected EMI's share price. The shares dropped 16 percent on Feb. 7, 2005, after the company said Coldplay's third album, "X&Y,'' would be delayed beyond the end of EMI's fiscal year ended March 31. The album was released in June and became a global smash, debuting at the top of the Billboard album chart in the U.S. and topping many charts around the world.

The band won awards last night for best British album for "X&Y'' and best British single for "Speed of Sound.''

'Not Quitting'

"Coldplay are not quitting,'' EMI said in a statement, read by a spokeswoman. "They are on the road until July when their 16-month world tour ends in Japan. They will then continue working on new material.''

It's not uncommon for bands to take breaks after a string of hit albums and concert tours, usually for a short period before fans move on to the latest hot act.

One EMI artist, Kate Bush, took a longer respite, releasing her first new album in 12 years last year, a double compact disc called "Aerial.'' Fans stuck with Bush: she was nominated this year for best British solo artist at the Brit Awards, though the honor went to another EMI act, Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall.

'Farewell' star tells us band will be back

Chris Martin turned into Eric Cantona when we caught up with the Coldplay singer and asked him about his farewell-to-the-Brits moment.

Speaking at EMI's exclusive party at the Baglioni Hotel, Chris said: "You know, if the fox stays in the hole for too long it might get shot. Sometimes the fox needs to get back into its hole."

Erm, is anyone else reminded of a certain French footballer's "seagulls-following-the-trawler" speech? Has someone spiked your macrobiotic canapes, Chris?There was still confusion last night about how long Coldplay will be away before returning from self-imposed exile. Chris sparked global panic when he told Wednesday's star-studded Brits it would be "a few years before you see us again".

Picking up one of the band's two awards - they won Best Album and Best British Single for Speed Of Sound - he said: "People are fed up with us. So are we."

But speaking exclusively to his favourite showbiz column later, Chris tried to clear things up. He told us: "I suppose everyone thinks we're jammy bastards after winning two awards. After we won I thought 'we must have paid someone a lot of money'."

Chris insisted the band's retreat from the front line was not permanent, before making his bizarre fox-in-the-hole reference. He then admitted: "It's three in the morning - maybe I'm not making much sense! So you'd better work out what that means on your own."

Chris is expected to spend more time with wife Gwyneth Paltrow and daughter Apple. A second child is due in spring. But a source close to the star told us last night: "The band is Chris's passion, but they've been in each other's pockets on the road for 16 months touring the X&Y album. They think an extended break will do them all good."

A spokesman for the band said: "Coldplay are not quitting. They are touring until July and will then continue work on new material."

When accepting the best album prize at the Brit Awards last night (Feb. 15) in London, frontman Chris Martin dropped a bomb. "Thank you. That's it," he said. "We won't see you for a very long time."

Asked about the comment afterwards, he said only, "We need to go away. We've got a lot of work to do, that's all," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

That apparently isn't enough of an explanation for legions of Coldplay fans. Coldplay messageboards are abuzz with speculation.

Coldplay have hit out at claims they're to split

Speaking from the stage at last night's Brit Awards singer Chris Martin hinted the band would move out of the public eye once the promotion for current album 'X&Y' was complete.

"People are fed up with us and so are we," he said. "You won't see us at one of these for many, many years. We mean it."

However, the band's label have hit back at reports that this means the band are splitting up. A spokesperson told NME.COM: "Coldplay are not quitting. They are on the road until July, when their 16-month 'X&Y' World Tour ends in Japan. They will then continue working on new material."

The group's next single will be 'The Hardest Part', which is out in April.

In other news, Oasis haven’t split up, Kaiser Chiefs haven’t split up, Hard Fi haven’t split up, but James Blunt is going solo.

It’s a grey old day in London, but safe inside the not-very-warm-at-all Earl’s Court, Coldplay kick off the day’s rehearsals.

The lads are typically laid back and sound every bit as brilliant as you’d expect, but something is bothering poor Chris Martin. It’s not the state of the economy or the fact that all the brightly coloured tablecloths in front of the stage are making his eyes go funny, but the whereabouts of a certain legendary comedian.

“Whatever happened to Jim Bowen?” he asks the rest of the band quizzically. “Whatever happened to that man?” Sadly, they can offer no answers…

But Chris Martin's on-stage acrobatics proved he's probably good enough to join the circus.

The singer, doubtless thrilled that Coldplay picked up two gongs, went all topsy-turvy as he belted out hit tune Square One - much to the delight of the audience. One Brits guest said: "His antics topped an absolutely storming set by Coldplay. It was probably one of the best seen at the event in a long time. The crowd absolutely loved it."

And Chris is clearly head over heels for them too...

Singer/songwriter James Blunt answered his critics last night with two Brit Award wins, and found his soppy ballads being defended by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

Despite Blunt's debut album Back To Bedlam being the biggest selling British album of 2005, the singer has come into criticism from his chart peers, such as Charlotte Church and Paul Weller, over his easy-listening sound.

Accepting the British Male Solo Artist award at the London ceremony, Blunt said, "I've been accused so many times of singing like a girl that it is amazing to be best male. Maybe I should try singing like a man."

Meanwhile, Chris Martin [pictured], whose band picked up British Album for X&Y and British Single for Speed Of Sound, leaped to the defence of Blunt, saying Britain should be proud of his phenomenal achievements. Martin says, "Stop giving James Blunt a hard time, he's British. Be proud, he's British. We should really get behind him."

Paul Weller [pictured] has slagged off so many people ahead of the Brits, that Coldplay are feeling more than a little bit neglected.

After his band's gig for Radio Two at London's Abbey Road Studios on Monday, Chris Martin told us: "I've heard Paul dissing James Blunt and the others, but there's no need for that. Actually we are feeling left out. He hasn't said anything about us yet. I really want him to. I love Paul Weller, he's great. Maybe on the night he'll say something."

Coldplay singer Chris Martin has announced that the group's next CD will be the best album ever.

According to IOL, the 28 year-old singer has already written nearly all the songs for the next disc. He says: "I think the next time we'll be everyone's band. Our next album is going to be the greatest piece of music ever made."

Coldplay's last release, X&Y [pictured], sold more than 5 million copies worldwide, and recently won the Best British Album at this year's Brit Awards.

Singer Chris Martin dropped the bombshell at the Brits - as they won awards for best single and best album.

The star, hinting the break would be temporary, said as he picked up the second gong: "This means so much to us, especially now. It's going to be a few years before you see us again. People are fed up with us - and so are we."

Mates say he is breaking up the band, famed for worldwide hits Yellow and Speed of Sound, to spend more time with wife Gwyneth Paltrow - expecting their second baby in April. The singer later told Brits host Chris Evans, who had a self-imposed TV exile: "You had a break, so are we."

The four-piece group met at university in London in 1997 and landed a record deal two years later. They have recorded three award-winning albums: Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y. But recently there have been rumours that the three other members are unhappy at Chris attracting all the attention.

'Talk', Coldplay's third single from X&Y and 'In The Sun', Coldplay's collaboration with REM's Michael Stipe, both hit Billboards Hot 100 chart this week.

Rock band Kaiser Chiefs are leading the pack at this year's Brit Awards, winning three prizes including the coveted best British group prize.

The Leeds-based band also took best live act and best rock act at the London ceremony.

James Blunt won best pop act and best British male. Both acts were up for five prizes as the show began. Other winners include best British breakthrough act Arctic Monkeys, and KT Tunstall, who won best British female.

Coldplay won Best British Album for X&Y and Best British Single for 'Speed Of Sound'. Accepting the best single award, singer Chris Martin said: "It is hard for us sometimes because we are English and we do not like to admit we are great. So tonight, we would like to agree with you for giving us this award."

Chris Martin hinted on stage he may take a break, saying: "People are fed up with us and so are we." Accepting the best British band award, he added: "Thanks for having us, you won't see us for a long time."

"Crikey," spluttered Coldplay singer Chris Martin. "We usually play to more people at our soundchecks." .

Right now, Coldplay are the biggest band on earth. Their third album, X&Y, topped the charts in the United States as well as Britain and their mammoth tour in support of it is not scheduled to finish until June.

Last night's intimate, full-length set (to be broadcast on Radio 2 on 8 April) was their last British sighting for the foreseeable future. Rapper Kanye West (namechecked in Politik's re-modelled lyrics), and jazzer Jamie Cullum to DJ Chris Evans and queen of the musicals Elaine Paige were sprinkled among the competition winners to see what was effectively a stadium show in a living room.

Coldplay singer Chris Martin has reportedly recorded a track with US hip-hop superstar Kanye West at the famous Abbey Road Studios.

West is currently recording the soundtrack for the new 'Mission: Impossible' film at the legendary studio in London and Coldplay were also in the complex recording a special gig for Radio 2 earlier this week.

After West went to watch Coldplay's gig, the pair decided to get together for a jamming session and, according to sources, came up with a song that could feature on West's next album.

A studio insider said: "Kanye didn't mind being interrupted and after Coldplay's show, Chris joined him in the recording booth for a jamming session.

"They did a track together which sounded amazing. Fingers crossed it will see the light of day."

Coldplay and Kanye West will both be taking to the stage at the Brit Awards at Earl's Court in London on Wednesday evening.

Coldplay are up for four awards at tomorrow’s Brits, and Radio 1 invited Chris Martin in to spread a little Valentine’s Day love.

They also sneaked a keyboard in, and he gave his views on Chris Moyles's piano-playing skills. Plus the motormouth DJ tried really hard to get into the Coldplay frontman’s house - but did he succeed?

Coldplay and Kasabian are the latest acts to jump on the Arctic Monkeys bandwagon.

Coldplay singer Chris Martin told Radio 1 he was a huge fan of the chart-topping Sheffield four-piece, when asked about his favourite British bands. “Obviously the Arctic Monkeys are the greatest band in the world,” he replied, before begging DJ Chris Moyles to play one of their records.

Meanwhile, Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan insisted he has been a fan of the group for a long time and tipped them to pick up a Brit Award on Wednesday evening. He said: “They’ve got to win British Breakthrough. I remember talking to my mates about them before they were signed and now look at them.

“That guy (Alex Turner) is a poet, and I’m a proper fan of everything they’re about. It’s amazing for British music what those lads have done and I’d love to meet them.”

Coldplay were watched by Kanye West and Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis at their only scheduled UK appearance of the year last night (February 13).

The band performed at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London at a show that was recorded for BBC Radio 2. The gig was watched by Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis, who Martin namechecked from the stage, describing him as a “God”, as well as Jamie Cullum and rapper Kanye West. West, who was in the same studio working on new material, watched the last half of the show from the back of the room, and grinned when Martin noticed him. However, the Coldplay singer was left embarrassed after his organ broke during final song ‘Fix You’.

“What would Kanye do?” he joked. “He’d get on with the song and try again.”

I got in without a ticket!

I'll keep it brief cos i'm so tired but I waited outside for 8 hours and at 7.45 was allowed in cos i'd been there so long! The most exhilarating experience and also met will, guy and jonny in the car park before hand at about 4.30!

Gig was incredible cos we were so close. could've touched chris' piano! I got jonny's roadie's (matt) set list too but my scanner isnt working so will post it up tonight.
