"a very long long long time ago i got on a train from exeter to london. i had just been to the dentist and he had given me braces; big, heavy, metal things that couldn’t help but catch the eye. i felt like a cross between robocop and the worlds ultimate nerd™. i hid as far away from everyone else as possible and tried to eat a sandwich; (which as anybody can guess, proved very tricky) all the while hoping i wouldn’t see anybody i knew. it was more than terrifying. then, when we pulled into castle cary, and i realised that this was the glastonbury train. about 50,000 of the coolest kids on the planet started getting on. ‘oh shit’ i though, as i tried to convince an old lady next me to hide under her shirt, ‘i will never make it to bristol.’

ten years later jonny, guy, will and me are standing at the back of the pyramid stage checking that we remember all the right chords to ‘can’t get you out of my head.’ once will (who is the boss in these situations) is happy that we are all talking about the same song, we walk back onto the stage and sing it with 50,000 of the coolest kids on the planet.

at the same time, very close by, even more thousands are scattered around worthy farm; watching razorlight, sweating in the dance tent, dancing at the avalon stage, sitting by the stone circle, eating some strange noodles, or walking around dressed as wizards. it is odd, wet, dark and very very muddy, and nobody cares at all. every glastonbury is special. for us this one was even more so. partly because of the crazy weather, and the fact that it didn’t stop the festival. partly because we got to headline. partly because echo & the bunnymen were there. but mostly because this time it hit me that glastonbury is one of the only places on earth were everybody is accepted; you can be 80, you can be 3, you can be bald, you can be a rasta, you can like coldplay, you can hate coldplay, and, as i wish someone had told me, you can even have a brace.

Coldplay have been joined onstage by some stunningly talented people. Chris duetted with Noel Gallagher many moons ago, Elton John has graced the Coldplay piano stool and more recently, Michael Stipe shared the mic with the guys.

Today, however comes an event that seems difficult to ever top. Today, Coldplay will be performing with The Muppets. Apparently, The Muppets are still going strong in Spain, going under the name ‘Los Lunis’. The fellas are joined onstage by three of ‘Los Lunis’ for a rousing version of ‘Talk’ which, apparenly will be going out to millions on Christmas Eve.

It’s a little uneasy at first, as the band plainly haven’t quite made their minds up whether or not this is indeed a good idea. Appearing with the Muppets though, is a noble and respected tradition from back in its seventies heyday. Paul Simon, Joan Baez, Gladys Knight and indeed Johnny Cash probably also sat in their dressing rooms nervously asking their managers to assure them that this wasn’t a mistake.

Meanwhile, onstage today, the puppets are making it obvious that taking it seriously is an utterly pointless exercise, Jonny and Guy are rocking out, miming the track with a sunglassed, bearded puppet doing exactly the same behind each of them. I’m sure it’s possible to watch this without grinning, but you’d have to ask yourself some questions about just how seriously you need to be taking things.

After a few runs at the track, it’s all over and we’re clearing the stage to let Goldfrapp get set up.

Madonna can add another #1 album to her resume, as Confessions On A Dancefloor debuted at the top of the sales chart this week.

After 47 years and after 13 previous albums, Madge apparently still knows what it takes to connect with both the dancefloor and consumers. However, her latest effort is second only to Coldplay's X&Y when it comes to first-week sales this year.Last week's chart-toppers, popera act Il Divo, dropped one spot with Ancora in the face of the Madonna onslaught. But they still withstood the Bullet In A Bible attack of Green Day, as that group's live CD/DVD entered the chart at #3.

There's nothing to beat the November blahs like dancing, and MuchDance 2006 provided the cure for enough people to land it in the #4 spot. Another way of overcoming late fall lethargy is by thinking of the upcoming holiday season like Diana Krall, whose Christmas Songs remains at #5.

A couple of albums took body blows in the wake of the new entries, with the Get Rich Or Die Tryin' soundtrack slipping four spots to #6 and Nickelback's For All The Right Reasons falling from #4 to #7. Black Eyed Peas' Monkey Business did a little less business in dropping one spot to #8.

Quebec consumers continue to show their economic clout, as the Star Academie 2005 soundtrack to the popular Quebecois reality TV show is at #9 and Arianne Moffatt's Coeur Dans La Tete debuts at #10.

Other new entries in the top 50 include: Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts at #20; the Country Hits 2 compilation at #22; the Walk The Line soundtrack at #41; Big & Rich's Comin' To Your City at #42; and Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run: 30th Anniversary at #44.

After the Asian Tsunami of Boxing Day, 2004 a group of people got together to support an established project working with differently abled children in Batticaloa, North Eastern Sri Lanka. Through a personal connection to one of the band members, Coldplay got to hear about this fundraising, and donated this disc to raise money to assist these projects. All money raised will go directly to a registered charity in Sri Lanka, called Mencafep, run by Chris and Ranji Stubbs, to further their essential aid work.

Gwyneth Paltrow [pictured] has reportedly set up a hotline to local police after becoming concerned about the threat of stalkers.

The Hollywood actress has set up a speed dial on her mobile phone that will enable the local North London police, where she now lives with husband Chris Martin, to respond instantly. She reportedly called the cops last year when she was harassed by a man outside her old Belgravia home in central London. Now the family have settled in North London, they still maintain regular contact with CID officers.

Gwyneth, Coldplay singer Chris and their baby daughter Apple set up their new home amid unconfirmed rumours that she is expecting their second child.

Due to popular demand, the shows for Vancouver, Toronto and Uniondale have all rolled over for an extra date, coldplay.com have announced.

Coldplay will now play at Vancouver, BC at the GM Place on 26th & 27th January, Toronto, ON at the Air Canada Centre 22nd & 23rd March.

The band will also perform at Uniondale, NY at the Nassau Coliseum on both 26th & 27th March.

Coldplay have set up their own auction website so fans who are left ticketless don't have to be "ripped off" buying online.

The group say that whenever they announce tour dates, "an enormous amount" end up being sold on via auction websites, and in some cases, "scalper sites". To combat this, the band are auctioning off some tickets for their forthcoming North American dates, with some of the money being donated to charity.

A statement on the band's official website reads: "Whenever we put our tickets up for sale an enormous amount of them end up being sold on. We have given a small number of tickets for the next North American tour to Ticketmaster to auction through a legitimate auction site that they have set up just for Coldplay of which a portion of the proceeds from these auctions will be donated to charity. Again this part of our on-going plan to make sure as many tickets get into real fans' hands and to stop scalpers making money and making fans miserable from counterfeit tickets."

We just wanted to do a round up of the pre-sale promos this week as we know there may have been some confusion over them and we want to outline what has happened to hopefully help explain it a bit.

Firstly, we run a presale lottery system on coldplay.com for most big tours. We have been doing this on the X&Y campaign for 2 main reasons, firstly to make sure that as many tickets get in the fans of real fans as possible and secondly to make sure that fans don’t spend hours getting jammed on refreshing pages in logjam pre-sales that normally take place.

This system allows for all members to register their interest for a show and then we will aim to fulfill as many ticket requests as our pre-sale allows. In Australia we managed to look after most people but in the UK, Europe and the USA where our member list is bigger we have only unfortunately be able to look after a portion of people as there just isn't enough tickets to go around.

We have however tried to make sure all pre-sale tickets that fans do get are great seats.

If you didn't register your interest to a show before Monday then you wouldn't have been put in this lottery system.

Once we close the lottery we then shift through by hand, which is a painful job to take out all the professional scalping firms and then pick at random a list of people to go forward to the presale. This is a huge job but a worthwhile one and on this sale alone we have managed to stop 1000's of tickets getting into the professional scalpers hands and into fans hands.

On top of the huge amount of work sorting through the requests we also have to deal with dates and sales that can change due to factors our of our control plus sometimes we deal with a number of ticket agencies so information co-ordination can we very tough and we applogise if some dates and times and indeed links have changed through-out this week, we have tried to keep everyone as updated on everything as possible but we know it can be frustrating as all you want is to get tickets and that is all we want, its just trying to match the supply with demand in the best way can prove tough.

We have honestly tried to make as many tickets as accessible for everyone and we will keep trying to do this. Look out for information about our official Auction system for tickets coming in the next few days also.

'Talk' will be available as a two-track CD, a DVD and 7 inch, coldplay.com has revealed. The CD includes the brilliant new song 'Sleeping Sun'.

The DVD contains Coldplay's version of 'Gravity', a song they wrote whist on tour in 2003 that became a huge hit for Embrace last year. The DVD also includes the Anton Corbijn-directed video for 'Talk', the Mark Romanek-directed video for 'Speed Of Sound', and some new behind-the-scenes footage of Coldplay on the ‘Talk’ video shoot.

Jon Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion of Coldplay were special guests at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre this morning. Accompanied by several members of the band's staff, they had a run around the central pitch, played a quick match and practiced taking penalties.

Chris Martin couldn't make it to Inter's training ground as the Coldplay frontman was guest on a radio programme in Milan. After this morning's training session the Coldplayers greeted Roberto Mancini, their great friend Luis Figo and all the Nerazzurri before leaving to continue their world tour.

Some of the biggest names in modern rock, including Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, the White Stripes, System Of A Down and Korn, have signed on for Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM's annual Almost Acoustic Xmas show.

The event takes place December 10-11 at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk.

The first night will feature NIN, System Of A Down, Korn, Fall Out Boy, Thrice, Rise Against and Avenged Sevenfold. The next evening will boast performances by Depeche Mode, the White Stripes, Coldplay, Jack Johnson, Death Cab For Cutie, Nada Surf, Hot Hot Heat and the Bravery.

Tickets for night one are already on sale; night two tickets go on sale Friday (November 18) at 6 p.m. PT.

Coldplay are to release a live version of Gravity as a b-side on their single Talk which is due out on December 19th. Gravity, which was originally penned by Chris Martin, was a big hit for Embrace in 2004 and launched a major comeback for the Yorkshire band.

Talk is the third single to be taken from X&Y, the year’s second biggest selling album in the UK.

Coldplay's gig at the Filaforum in Milan were given an added bonus on the setlist - Trouble and Shiver.

After teasing fans with a web-based tour announcement system, Coldplay's finally made its winter itinerary public.

In an apparent bid to fuel egos, Coldplay announced an upcoming tour, but directed fans to its talkthetour.com site for routing. Once there, visitors learned that the site would need to rack up 33000 hits to reveal each tour date to support this year’s X&Y, aversion.com has reported.

Thanks to a combination of obsessive fans and script-kiddies running neutered denial-of-service scripts on the web site, talkthetour.com peaked on 9th November.

Coldplay have unveiled the full early 2006 US tour itinerary, as well as the tour's support acts.

The 26-date run gets underway Jan 25 in Seattle, and subsequent stops are lined up through early April. Fiona Apple will serve as the show-opener from the tour's kick-off through its March 5 stop in Tampa, and Richard Ashcroft will take over from March 20 through April 6.

Tickets for most shows are scheduled to hit the box office Nov. 19, while those for the remaining stops will go on sale either Nov. 21 or Dec. 3. Details are included in the itinerary below.

The tour schedule was announced via a viral Internet campaign, whereby one date was revealed for every 33,000 visits to the tour's official website, TalktheTour.com. The process took about 51 hours.

On December 7th, Coldplay will appear on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" for a two-song performance, and on Dec. 17, PBS will premiere the band's hour-long "Austin City Limits" performance, according to a press release.

As first reported on billboard in August, Coldplay will return to North America for a spring 2006 tour, beginning Jan. 25 in Vancouver. Set to run through early April, the trek is gradually being unveiled on the Web site Talkthetour.com, where a new show is confirmed for every 33,000 hits. At deadline, half of the 26 shows had been announced.

Fans who register with the site will have the opportunity to win a phone call from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, front row seats to a show and tickets to the 2006 Grammys.

The tour comes in support of Coldplay's third Capitol album, "X&Y," which debuted in May at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 2.3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The band proved a major draw in North America this summer, grossing more than $23 million from 34 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore, including 16 sell-outs.

Coldplay is in the midst of a European jaunt that hits Leipzig, Germany, tonight (Nov. 9) and concludes Dec. 21 in Belfast. After the North American tour next year, the band has scheduled 10 shows in Australia in June and July.

Justin Hawkins [pictured] has sensationally slammed Chris Martin and Bono, saying that the Coldplay frontman should burn in hell.

In the outspoken interview, he also said that he hates Bono’s egotistical ‘holier than thou’ attitude. Asked which star should burn in hell, Hawkins replied, “Chris Martin. What are those seven deadly sins again? Greed? Sloth? Calling your child Apple? He’s terribly vain. I think he has a narcissism complex. He wants to be Bono, but he bleats in interviews about worrying about being ubiquitous. Make your fucking mind up. If you want to be a household name, be a household name.”

In the Kerrang! interview, he ranted on: “Writing ‘Fair Trade’ on his hand. If you’re concerned about Fair Trade, tattoo it on your skin, don’t just fucking write it on your hand in felt tip.”

Turning his attention to Bono, Hawkins blathered “I hate people being holier than thou. Like Bono getting an audience with the Pope, was all for Bono’s ego.”

Coldplay received a Platinum Disc in Denmark on Sunday for selling 40,000 copies of X&Y.

David Bowie and Coldplay's Chris Martin are set to appear in the second series of Ricky Gervais's 'Extras'.

Ricky has admitted he is "in negotiations" with the rockers to have cameo roles in the hilarious show. The funnyman has been friends with Bowie since they filmed a sketch together for charity show Comic Relief earlier this year, so he is hoping the legendary singer will agree to send himself up on 'Extras'.

Meanwhile, Ricky approached Chris when they met at this summer's Live 8 concert in London. If they agree to take part, the musicians will join a long list of A-list stars to poke fun at themselves in the sitcom, which has been nominated for a record five British Comedy Awards.

Hollywood stars Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller and Samuel L Jackson all played distorted versions of themselves in the first series of the show, which follows film extra Andy (Gervais) on his desperate quest to get a speaking part in a movie.

For more information visit nme.com"a very long long long time ago i got on a train from exeter to london. i had just been to the dentist and he had given me braces; big, heavy, metal things that couldn’t help but catch the eye. i felt like a cross between robocop and the worlds ultimate nerd™. i hid as far away from everyone else as possible and tried to eat a sandwich; (which as anybody can guess, proved very tricky) all the while hoping i wouldn’t see anybody i knew. it was more than terrifying. then, when we pulled into castle cary, and i realised that this was the glastonbury train. about 50,000 of the coolest kids on the planet started getting on. ‘oh shit’ i though, as i tried to convince an old lady next me to hide under her shirt, ‘i will never make it to bristol.’

ten years later jonny, guy, will and me are standing at the back of the pyramid stage checking that we remember all the right chords to ‘can’t get you out of my head.’ once will (who is the boss in these situations) is happy that we are all talking about the same song, we walk back onto the stage and sing it with 50,000 of the coolest kids on the planet.

at the same time, very close by, even more thousands are scattered around worthy farm; watching razorlight, sweating in the dance tent, dancing at the avalon stage, sitting by the stone circle, eating some strange noodles, or walking around dressed as wizards. it is odd, wet, dark and very very muddy, and nobody cares at all. every glastonbury is special. for us this one was even more so. partly because of the crazy weather, and the fact that it didn’t stop the festival. partly because we got to headline. partly because echo & the bunnymen were there. but mostly because this time it hit me that glastonbury is one of the only places on earth were everybody is accepted; you can be 80, you can be 3, you can be bald, you can be a rasta, you can like coldplay, you can hate coldplay, and, as i wish someone had told me, you can even have a brace.
