Demand for tickets for their new tour was so high they've now added an extra date in Glasgow on 2nd July. Despite this, Chris still isn't sure that people will want to see them.

"I think we've been away for so long now and the only public feedback we get is tabloid gossip, which is generally vitriolic. So at this point we feel so unpopular and so out of the loop. The only people we've met who have anything to do with Coldplay have been in our faces and trying to take our picture, who generally don't like us.

"So to me it seems surreal that we're going to play concerts again because I haven't met anyone who likes us for two years. Quite where these people are going to come from, I'm not sure. But I hope they're out there somewhere."

Coldplay have issued more tickets for their UK tour to combat people re-selling tickets online.

The group recently confirmed their biggest ever UK dates, starting at the Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium in June. A spokesperson for the band's management has told NME they have issued more tickets for the shows to ensure fans can get into the gigs without having to fork out 'hugely inflated prices'.

He said: "More tickets have just been made available for the following shows - London Crystal Palace June 28, Glasgow Bellahouston July 2, Bolton Reebok Stadium (July 4-5) - so keep trying official ticket outlets."

The tour visits:

London Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium (27-28)

Glasgow Bellahouston Park (July 1-2)

Bolton Reebok Stadium (4-5)

Coldplay will be performing in Las Vegas on April 29th at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, in celebration of 10th anniversary of the hotel.

Coldplay have added a second date to their UK Summer Tour - they will now play in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park not only on July 1st, but also Saturday July 2nd.

Coldplay played a secret rehearsal gig which included new songs, in London on Friday in front of 40 lucky fans, a smattering of press, and other insiders.

The band showcased new songs from their highly anticipated 3rd album. The unusually small audience of 40 comprised of label personnel, family & friends as well as a hand picked small number of fans.

Chris introduced proceedings and they got underway with Square One, an upbeat track. This was the first glimpse into the new album and it didn't disappoint.

The setlist was compiled alternating between one new, one old from start to finish continuing with In My Place, White Shadows, The Scientist, Speed Of Sound, Sparks ( a delightful resurrection of an old favourite, featuring soft acoustics from all 4 members), A Message, Clocks, What If. The latter is a heartfelt epic ballad that is trademark Coldplay, the diamond in the set without a doubt.

Sadly as time drew to a close, the encore of Politik, Yellow and Fix You had to be omitted. After the performance the band chatted with guests and fans. It was a relaxed intimate atmosphere and an all round exciting experience!

The band are set to leave for the States as they embark on a string of live dates starting with the KCRW show at Universal Ampitheatre, Los Angeles.

Chris Martin had 2,000 people sing happy birthday to him down the phone this week.

Celebrating his 28th birthday, Chris picked up the blower to find fellow rock chum Danny McNamara [pictured] on the other end, during an Embrace gig at Cambridge Corn Exchange. The crowd then roared a fine rendition of 'happy birthday' down the phone at the unsuspecting Martin.

Chris Martin wrote Embrace's hit song 'Gravity'. So really, a little birthday serenading was the least Dan-Dans could do... sneaky Danny told the crowd that he would phone Chris Martin while he was performing the song.

An excited punter said: "Danny just pulled his mobile phone out and announced he was going to phone Chris. He got him on the other end, wished him happy birthday and had a bit of a chat. He then held the phone up to the audience and everyone sang happy birthday."

Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has promised ticket sales for this year's event will be smoother than in 2004, when systems crashed.

Millions of phone calls and internet hits were registered by people trying to buy tickets last year. Mr Eavis said they had "tested and retested" an improved online system and would have more than twice the number of phone operators on duty this time. The 112,000 tickets, priced £133 each, go on sale at 0900 GMT on 3 April.

Mr Eavis, who has been hosting the festival on his Somerset farm since 1970, said he considered "many radical options" for ticket sales - but decided to improve the existing system. "I would be delighted if everyone who wanted to come to the festival could, but that is not possible as the numbers on site are limited. This year's event would be "a festival to remember," he said.

Fans would not be "left in limbo" on the website, not knowing if their transaction had gone through, he pledged. And the telephone exchange should not face the same problems as last year because tickets were going on sale on a Sunday, he added.Last year, around three million calls were logged on the day the tickets went on sale, with some 200 million redials. Many fans complained they could not get through on the website or phone lines, while others bought multiple tickets because they did not realise their internet transactions had been processed.

This year, fans will be issued with personalised photo ID cards for the first time, in an attempt to beat touts. "I really think this is a positive move forward to stop unscrupulous people and companies touting tickets," Mr Eavis said.

Tickets, costing £125 plus £8 booking and postage fees, will only be available from one website, aloud.com, and the phone line 0870 165 2005. Fans were warned not to buy from any other outlet because they were "bogus". Each person will be able to buy two tickets and fans can cancel their purchases and get refunds until 13 May.

This year's performers are rumoured to include Coldplay, The White Stripes and Kylie Minogue. The event will take place from 24-26 June.

Coldplay are to perform their biggest Irish headline show to date with a June concert in Dublin, it was confirmed today.

The band will play Marlay Park on June 22 as part of a series of outdoor gigs in Ireland and the UK this summer.

The concerts will kick off Coldplay's world tour and will coincide with the release of the band's much-awaited follow-up to 2002 chart-topping album A Rush of Blood to the Head.

They will also perform at London's Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium on June 27 and 28, Glasgow's Bellahouston Park on July 1 and Bolton's Reebok Stadium on July 4 and 5 [see here]

Coldplay will play a benefit gig for Los Angeles-area radio station KCRW at the Hollywood Bowl on March 12, when it is expected they will showcase some of their new songs.

Tickets for the Marlay Park concert in Dublin, priced €59.50, go on sale next Friday, March 11 at 9am from usual Ticketmaster outlets. Coldplay last played Belfast and Dublin in the autumn of 2002.

After weeks of speculation, Coldplay have confirmed they will be playing five UK dates this summer in support of their forthcoming as-yet untitled third studio album.

Coldplay will be perform their biggest UK headline shows to date when they begin their 2005 world tour with a series of outdoor concerts this summer. They will play two nights at the 30,000 capacity Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium in London, two nights at the 25,000 capacity Reebok Stadium in Bolton [pictured left], and a night at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, which also holds 25,000 people.

Tickets will cost £32.50, and will go on sale at 9am on Saturday March 5.

eFestivals have stuck their necks out and predicted that Coldplay will announce tour dates this Monday (28th February). Here's what their website had to say:

We have found out that the date is free for them to play at Glastonbury on the Saturday - something that eFestivals was the very first to say would happen.

There was speculation in a Scottish newspaper around a month ago that the dates would include two shows at Loch Lomond in early July, but the little information we've been able to get on what's due to be announced is indicating that these aren't part of the tour (or at least aren't part of the announcement that will be made next week).

Breathe easy, everyone: Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow insists her marriage to rocker Chris Martin is just fine.

There is no strife, despite reports in the London Mirror of a public tiff at Tribeca's Next Door Nobu restaurant over the wait for a table, her flack says. "It is absolute rubbish," said spokesman Stephen Huvane. "There hasn't been any fighting. All of it is rubbish."

But the two are still planning a big separation, at least for a few days: She will be jetting off to Los Angeles to begin filming "Running With Scissors" and her husband will finish up Coldplay's third album in London. Chris Martin will join his wife, who will have their infant daughter, Apple, in tow, about six days after she lands in L.A.

The couple recently put their West Village townhouse on the market for $7.85 million. But fret not: They plan to remain nearby. Huvane says the couple "simply want more space and a yard and are actively searching for homes in the New York suburbs." A big yard for little Apple?

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's fairytale marriage is on the rocks, say friends.

Insiders close to the couple reckon they are going through "an incredibly rough patch" after a series of furious rows. It is believed that the pressures of work and caring for eight-month-old daughter Apple is getting to them.

A friend told the Daily Mirror: "Adjusting to married life, then being parents and now trying to sort out their professional lives has been a lot more difficult and complicated than either of them imagined."

A spokesman for Coldplay frontman Martin, 27, who married Gywneth 18 months ago, denied there was a rift. Martin and his Oscar-winning actress wife met in 2002 backstage at a Coldplay concert.

He is due to spend much of his time in London over the next few weeks trying to complete the band's overdue third album, while Gwyneth, 32, will be in Los Angeles. She will be caring for Apple - and is also due to begin shooting on her latest movie, Running With Scissors.

Certainly hitting the headlines...

Glastonbury sources revealed this week that Coldplay will headline this year's festival, along with The White Stripes and Kylie on the Pyramid Stage.

It was confirmed to Virtual Festivals the acts that will be headlining the Pyramid Stage. As rumoured for weeks, The White Stripes will play Friday, Coldplay on Saturday, with Kylie finishing things off on Sunday.

Looking further ahead, Eric Clapton has been confirmed to play at the 2007 Glastonbury Festival, with the festival taking a year out in 2006.

Glastonbury 2005 takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, from 24-26 June. Tickets go on sale at 9am, Sunday 3 April, priced at £125. More details on tickets will be posted to coldplaying.com as and when they are known.

Shockwaves NME Awards host Simon Pegg claimed a prize of his own today (February 17th– presented in bizarre fashion by pal Chris Martin.)

Simon Pegg, co-star Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright were all present at Hammersmith Palais to see ’Shaun Of The Dead’ proclaimed Best Film.

And Chris Martin, who makes an appearance in the movie, took time out from recording the new Coldplay album to send a video message. Introduced as Sir Christopher Martin, he said he was a member of the group Band Aid before going on to congratulate his pals.

Coldplay have ditched plans to rock the bonny banks of Loch Lomond this summer.

Chris Martin's band were due to perform open-air gigs at the loch-side on July 2 and 3. But the group have pulled out after Strathclyde Police said the gigs would be difficult to police due to their preparations for the G8 Summit at Gleneagles from July 6 to 8.

A spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council said: "Coldplay will not be playing Loch Lomond on July 2 and 3. The band will be in France on these dates. "We held informal talks with their management but the plans have now fallen through."

Police had asked council bosses to consider re-scheduling the concerts due to concerns they would be unable to provide security at the gigs, just days before the Summit. They say the G8 event will stretch all eight Scots police forces to capacity.

The release date for Coldplay's third album may be pushed back to June, due to internal concerns about hitting the road after a year and a half's absence.

Drummer Will Champion explained in the Coldplay official newsletter that the decision to delay the album "because the prospect of touring again was so daunting that we felt we should take our time, and also we wanted to make sure that it (the album) was the best it could possibly be."

By taking time to follow-up 2002's Grammy-winning smash A Rush of Blood To The Head, Coldplay gave themselves no deadline, which Champion says, "became a problem because we never really felt the need to finish anything. As soon as we gave ourselves a proper deadline we started to be much more productive and the stuff we were doing was miles better. It's always the same with us, the best stuff comes when we start to panic."

The delayed release may be worth the wait as the disc promises to include tracks that, Champion says,"pick up where Clocks left off, but also ones that have moved on a bit."

Bandleader and doting father to newborn Apple Chris Martin added, "We've got some f-cking good

songs. That's one thing we are sure of. I don't think we'll top this. I always say that, but this time I really mean it. I really don't think we'll top it."

Possible tracks include, "Square One," "Talk" (which borrows the riff from Kraftwerk's "Computer Love"), "Till Kingdom Come", "X&Y," "What If" and "The Hardest Part." The songs reportedly mesh the band's signature sound with the influences of David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Brian Eno.

Coldplay will headline this Spring's 2005 Coachella Valley Music Festival and are rumored headliners for June's Glastonbury Festival in England.
