Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has put her New York home up for sale.

The Hollywood star has made London her permanent base since she married Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The couple have a nine-month-old daughter, Apple.The couple bought Kate Winslet's home in the exclusive Belsize Park area of the capital last July for a reported £2.3 million. And now the Oscar-winner loves life as a Londoner so much she is selling up.

The four storey townhouse in Manhattan's trendy Greenwich Village has gone on the market for £4.1 million, according to reports.

But rumour has it 32-year-old Paltrow is not cutting her New York ties altogether. She is looking for a safer and more manageable part-time home in an apartment building. Neighbours include Liv Tyler and Sarah Jessica Parker who live just a stone's throw away.

Coldplay are planning UK dates as early as spring, according to drummer Will Champion.

The group have been in the US working on mixes for songs for their third album, which is currently set for release in spring. Speaking to the band’s official newsletter, Champion hinted the band may play some gigs in Britain to coincide with the release, despite being “utterly petrified” at the prospect having not done a gig in 16 months.

He said: “I think we were in no hurry (to finish the album) because the prospect of touring again was so daunting that we felt we should take our time, and also we wanted to make sure that it was the best it could possibly be.

”But in the end, having no deadline became a problem because we never really felt the need to finish anything. As soon as we gave ourselves a proper deadline we started to be much more productive and the stuff we were doing was miles better. It’s always the same with us, the best stuff comes when we start to panic.”

Speaking about the sound of the record, he continued: “It’s like a natural progression from the last record. The difference between ‘In My Place’ and ‘Clocks’ on ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ represented the change between the oldest and the newest songs of that album and there are songs that kind of pick up where ‘Clocks’ left off, but also ones that have moved on a bit.”

The band are also strongly rumoured to be headlining the Saturday night (June 25) of this year’s Glastonbury Festival.NME.COM was recently allowed into the studio to hear songs from the band’s third album. The group were still putting the finishing touches to the currently untitled record, which is due in spring.

Early sessions with long time producer Ken Nelson were scrapped and the band went back into rehearsals as a four-piece band before attempting the album for a second time with new producer Danton Supple.

Chris Martin told NME.COM: "Writing is what we’ve been doing all day, every day. It’s been quite turbulent. We’ve been through a lot of songs and a lot of sounds, a lot of studios. It took us a long time to realise the four of us should go into a rehearsal room again and play together rather than rely on technological assistance."

NME heard six tracks – ‘Square One’, ‘Talk’, ‘‘Till Kingdom Come’, ‘X&Y’, ‘What If’ and ‘The Hardest Part’. The material shows a huge progression from the classic Coldplay sound, mixing their trademark anthems with ’70s electronica. David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Brian Eno are all influences, while ‘Talk’ features the riff from Kraftwerk’s ‘Computer Love’.

Martin continued: "We’ve got some fucking good songs. That’s one thing we are sure of. I don’t think we’ll top this. I always say that, but this time I really mean it. I really don’t think we’ll top it." [Thanks Gas_Man]

Shares in EMI Group Plc, the world's third-largest record company, slumped as much as 18 percent after the company cut its fiscal-year earnings forecast.

EMI, where revenue has dropped for three straight years, is counting on new albums to lift earnings. Planned releases from bands Coldplay and Gorillaz will slip into next fiscal year, the company said today, meaning an April release at the very earliest. Recorded music revenue accounts for about 80 percent of EMI's total.

Pretax profit before amortization and one-time costs for the year to March will be about 138 million pounds ($258 million), EMI said in a statement today. Analysts expected 168 million pounds. Recorded music sales will fall between 8 and 9 percent after demand missed estimates and albums were delayed, EMI said.

Shares in EMI had their steepest decline in more than three years, falling as much as 50.5 pence to 230.75 pence. The stock traded at 238.5 pence at 8:40 a.m. in London. "While this rescheduling and recent softness is disappointing, it does not change my views of the improving health of the global recorded music industry,'' Alain Levy, head of the recorded music division, said in the statement.

EMI said it now expects to lose market share in the fiscal year. As recently as November, the company has said it planned to at least maintain its share of a market expected to contract as much as 4 percent. That would be the fifth straight annual drop.

The recorded music division will maintain last fiscal year's profitability by cutting costs, EMI said. The cost-cutting program, announced last March, has including paring 1,500 jobs and firing about 20 percent of the artists on its roster.

EMI generates the remainder of its revenue from its music publishing business. Earnings at that unit are matching the company's forecast, EMI said.

EMI's forecast for recorded music sales this fiscal year excludes the effect of currencies and compares with the year- earlier period.

Coldplay has given the New Zealand Blood Service a major shot in the arm by providing one of its songs free of charge for a television advertisement to attract new donors.

Don’t Panic, one of the hits from the band’s first album Parachutes, is the track behind a new awareness campaign devised by Publicis Mojo and on air from today thanks to TVNZ’s Community Support Foundation airtime.

New Zealand Blood Service Chief Executive Dr Graeme Benny said securing rights to international acts such as Coldplay was a rarity.

“Not many local campaigns have ever had backing music of this calibre because it can cost up to half a million dollars to secure the rights,” Dr Benny said. “We thought it was a real long shot to be able to use the song, let alone pay nothing to Coldplay for its use.

“We can’t thank Chris Martin and the Coldplay band members enough for their generosity. If this awareness campaign encourages just one more New Zealander to become a donor they can safely say they’ve contributed to saving lives.”

Dr Benny says the not-for-profit organisation needs more than 3,000 units of blood every week and the search for new blood donors is ongoing.

“The aim of this awareness campaign is not to attract a big influx of new donors in the short term, but to create wider awareness of the importance of blood donation and encourage people to become regular donors.“With every donation saving up to three lives, the Blood Service is always on the lookout for new donors.”

Approximately 80% of all New Zealanders will need blood or a blood product during their lifetime, but less than 5% of Kiwis currently donate blood.

It was those sort of statistics that were communicated to the Coldplay members, who are renowned for spurning commercial approaches to use their music.

American broadcasting giant ABC used Yellow as its promo track in 2000 and that same song has been used by the Australian Cancer Society for Daffodil Day. But, despite numerous requests, no Coldplay track has ever been used in an advertisement and so far they haven't allowed any of their songs to be used on film soundtracks.

“It's been all on our own terms,” says drummer Will Champion on the band’s official website at www.coldplay.com. “We have 100 per cent control over any aspect of whatever we do, and that's really important to who we are and the music we make. We take control of the recording, the videos, the artwork. We're not a band that can be pushed around, although we do have some amazing advisors.”

The NZBS is part of the public health service and is a national non-profit organisation that collects blood from volunteer donors for the treatment of patients across the country – from car accident victims and newborn babies, to burn victims and people with illnesses.

All blood types are currently needed from donors aged between 16-60, weighing over 50kg, who have had no body piercing or tattoos in the past six months and did not live in the UK between 1980-1996 for longer than six months.

Just 470mls of blood is taken per donation. The body replaces the fluid in 24-48 hours, and people are able to donate every three months.

R+B singer Beyonce Knowles is calling on Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to collaborate with her in the studio.

The Destiny's Child star has worked with a host of urban singers in the past, including boyfriend Jay-Z, but she's determined to test her musical compatibility with rocker Martin to discover how their different pop styles mix.

She says, "I've done duets over the years, but would love to work with Coldplay. Singing with Chris would be cool."

Gwyneth Paltrow's husband Chris martin has reportedly asked the 'Shakespeare in Love' beauty to stay away from her supermodel friend Kate Moss.

The 'Coldplay' frontman said to Gwyneth that she should end her friendship with Moss after the ramp diva openly admitted dating ex-Libertines frontman Pete Doherty, who was sacked from his band because of his dependency on drugs.

"Chris respects Pete as an artist but that's as far as it goes. He would never be drawn into the kind of world that Pete - and even Kate - inhabit," the Daily Mirror quoted a source close to Martin as saying.

"Chris is a caring and responsible family man. He asked Gwyneth to distance herself from Kate for the sake of their baby daughter, Apple," added the source.

Several websites including Billboard and MTV have today CONFIRMED that Coldplay and Nine Inch Nails will headline the sixth Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, to be held April 30-May 1 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif. The fest will also feature reunion performances by pioneering rock acts Gang Of Four, the Cocteau Twins and Bauhaus, as well as the first live appearance since late 2002 from Weezer.

The first day's bill will also feature rock acts Wilco (who were originally confirmed last year but forced to cancel while frontman Jeff Tweedy underwent treatment for painkiller addiction), Snow Patrol, Keane, Bloc Party, the Raveonettes, Mercury Rev, Fantomas, Ambulance LTD, the Kills, Secret Machines, Spoon, Razorlight, Radio 4 and Eisley, plus, as first reported here, Doves and Rilo Kiley.

The success of Coldplay has done funny things to some of their peers.

Snow Patrol, for one, discarded their previous identity as indie underachievers, got epic, and reaped the rewards. Now Feeder, Britain's mild-mannered hard rockers, and Athlete, a pleasantly slipshod outfit recently nominated for the Mercury Prize, have evidently decided that a few pianos and some uplifting melancholy could be just what their longevity and balance sheets require.

In Feeder's case, you could see it coming. Their fourth album, Comfort in Sound, was already speeding away from the trio's instinctive cheery riff into mellower and more emotionally mature territory, caused by the suicide of the band's original drummer in 2002.

Pushing the Senses ups the ante further. Bar a couple of throwbacks to their chuntering guitar days, their fifth album aims squarely for the big hankie box, unfurling pensive soft-rock anthems-in-waiting like 'Feeling a Moment'. It should work; certainly, these songs will play well to their friends, Travis's fans. But listen closely and singer Grant Nicholas deals exclusively in trite blandishments and formulaic builds.

Chris Martin and Will Champion performed two songs from the forthcoming Coldplay album last night (January 27th) to a music industry audience at London's Whitfield Street Studios.

Reported by Music Week, the band's frontman and drummer appeared as part of a presentation night by their record label Parlophone. According to the magazine, the pair swapped their usual on-stage instruments for acoustic guitars for the two-song performance.

Martin began by announcing that the band's new album was still not finished. By way of an introduction, he said: "The point is, it's [the album] going to be good, but don't judge it on what you hear tonight because we're playing track 12, which is very obscure, which is the only one we can do at the moment."

This untitled track 12 was later described by Martin as "our Johnny Cash song". The pair then concluded their set with another new song, introduced as "A Message".

The night also featured other short sets from fellow Parlophone acts The Departure, Idlewild and Athlete along with sneak previews of new tracks from the forthcoming second Gorillaz album.

Coldplay recently premiered six new tracks to the NME titled "Square One", "Talk", "'Til Kingdom Come", "X&Y", "What If" and "The Hardest Part". The magazine claimed they were heavily influenced by '70s electronic records by Brian Eno and Kraftwerk, as well as David Bowie and Bob Dylan.

Coldplay were thrown into panic after reports that their new album had been leaked on the internet.

The band would lose out on millions if fans downloaded the songs for free rather than buying the album in shops. They called in a team of lawyers to investigate the apparent leak, according to The Sun. But further inquiries suggested the leak was a fake.

WinMX, which allows web-users to fileshare, appeared to have six songs from the album available for download on its website. The tracks were The Hardest Part, Square One, Till Kingdom Come, X&Y, What If and Talk. But when fans tried to download the tracks all they could hear was static.

A Coldplay insider said singer Chris Martin would have been furious had the leak been for real. They said: "Everyone was extremely concerned. The tracks aren't finished yet and he wouldn't want the fans to hear anything until he thinks it is perfect. Thankfully everyone was able to breathe a sigh of relief by the end of the day."

eFestivals.co.uk remains confident that the headliner for the Saturday of Glastonbury 2005 will be Coldplay, and that U2 will not be playing.

Coldplay are known to be currently putting the arrangements together for a series of shows around the UK for the summer, thought to include a date in London in late June, and two shows at Balloch Park on the banks of Loch Lomond in Scotland on 2nd and 3rd of July.

Chris Martin will be a studio guest on Channel 4's Dispatches programme tonight.

Dispatches Live Special: After The Tsunami will air at 8pm GMT and will include a live debate on foreigh policy in the aftermath of the disaster.

The first confirmed details have been announced for this year’s Coachella Festival.

The Californian event will return for its sixth instalment between April 30 – May 1, it was announced last night (January 20). The annual event will again take place at the Empire Polo Field in the desert city of Indio, two hours outside of Los Angeles.

Last year’s event, which boasted headlining sets from a reunited Pixies, Radiohead and The Cure, helped the festival sell out for the first time in its history, drawing over 50,000 patrons each day.

Though the 2005 line up is still under wraps, Coldplay are rumoured to be headlining on one night of the event.Franz Ferdinand are also expected to play. "I would really like to just having spoken to people who’ve been to it before, it sounds amazing. I’d love to do it," singer Alex Kapranos told NME.COM in December.

Bassist Bob Hardy added, "It’ll probably be one of our first shows of the year."

Current ShockWaves NME Awards Tour 2005 headliners The Killers, will head back to the desert for the second time, hoping to make up for their show last year according to frontman Brandon Flowers.

"I had a terrible experience last year at Coachella," he told NME.COM. "It wasn’t something in particular. It was the last gig of an eight week tour, we hadn’t been home and it was 113 degrees and the crowd just wasn’t into it so I’m looking forward to redeeming our Coachella experience this year."

Other who’ve told NME.COM they have been asked to play are The Futureheads, Snow Patrol, Keane and Bloc Party. Rumoured acts also include Secret Machines, Hot Hot Heat, Phoenix, The Bravery and Radio 4.

The rumour mill has already started turning for this year's Glastonbury festival and here are some of the bands you can expect to see on the Pyramid Stage (and when!) at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

On Friday night, we expect Keane to be the act that plays before the headliner (or perhaps the third from last). Michael Eavis saw them at their re-scheduled gig in Bristol last night, and we're told that although the band were keeping their lips tightly zipped, the same can't be said for Michael.

Saturday night - which Michael has been quoted as saying would have "the best songwriters in the world today" - we believe will be headlined by Coldplay. We're uncertain who will play before them, but Embrace is a name that has been mentioned.

And third from top on Saturday it is believed to be Ian Brown, who is likely to be playing a set with many Stone Roses numbers. Efestival.co.uk information on this appears to be confirmed by comments Brown made to BBC's 6 Music.

There will NOT be a festival in 2006 to give the Eavis family and the local residents a break, so the chances of Coldplay performing at this year's event are higher than first thought. Tickets go on sale on April 3rd.

It appears that Coldplay have signed on with MTV to release the entire album online on "The Leak" a week before it's in-store release. The date MTV has listed is 22nd March 2005. A week later is the speculated date (29th March 2005) for North America. [thanks Owen]

Chris Martin has praised Britain's generous response to charitable campaigns - insisting his countrymen are unfairly portrayed as miserly.

Brits responded overwhelmingly to the 26 December tsunami, raising tens of millions of pounds for victims of the killer wave in Asia - but Martin insists this is typical behaviour.

Speaking after a charity trip to Africa to promote his Make Trade Fair campaign, the singer says, "Britain is often misrepresented as a nation of cynical bastards but most people want people around the world to be happy."

Coldplay have teamed up with A-ha - well one member of the Norwegian trio at least.

Mags, who now goes under the name of Magne, performed a showcase of his new material in London last night.vHis solo album features collaborations with Ed Harcourt, Andy from Travis and Will and Guy from Coldplay.

Magne told us how it all came about: "It's a friendship network really - with Coldplay we met in Barcelona on tour. It's a friendly thing and we then came to realise that they'd grown up as A-ha fans - we had sort of a mutual appreciation society happening!

"They have been to Norway since, and as my kids are huge fans I could introduce them to their heroes - it was a weird time-warp situation!" [thanks Alessandra]

Chris Martin has revealed fatherhood has driven him to try to make the world a better place.

Chris - who has an eight-month-old daughter Apple with actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow - was speaking after an emotionally- charged visit to impoverished Ghana, West Africa.

He said: "Being a new father has made me look at the world differently. I want the world to be a better place when my daughter has grown up."

Fatherhood has spurred campaigning Chris Martin to do even more work for charity.

Chris has always been passionate about causes like fair trade and the third world debt - but has become even more committed about making the world a better place since his actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow gave birth to baby daughter Apple in May last year.

He explains, "Being a new father has made me look at the world differently. I'm a father who travels a lot and has seen how rich nations like ours exploit poorer ones through crazy trade laws and huge debts. I want the world to be a better place when my daughter has grown up.

"I don't want my daughter having an adulthood like something out of Mad Max."

Chris Martin narrowly avoided death when his plane almost crashed on a charity trip to Africa.

Martin was approaching Tamale Airport in Ghana on a trip for the fair trade charity he works hard to support earlier this month, when the plane carrying him hit a dust storm.

The singer says, "We were coming into land. Once a year, for a week, all this dust blows over from the Sahara Desert. You could not see a thing. I couldn't see the ground and nor could the pilot. I found out we were about 200 metres up.

"The plane dropped off violently to the right, then way off to the left. It was lurching all over. It was so terrifying my mind was racing and I thought, 'My daughter will have to get a stepdad.' I thought, 'I've written a will. The band haven't finished the album but they know how I want to finish certain songs.

"I then thought, 'I'll be dying on a fair trade trip so people will always link me with that.' All these things were going through my head. But somehow the pilot pulled it off and landed. I don't know how he did it. I was convinced he wasn't going to. It fired me up for the trip. I thought, 'I'm going to learn as much as I can and meet as many people as possible.'"

And the frightening experience gave him the added incentive to make his band's upcoming release extra special. He says, "As we came so close to crashing I promised that when I got home I was going to make the best album of all time."
