The BBC Trust has rejected the BBC's plans to close the digital radio station 6 Music, according to the BBC website today. The Trust will today say that 6 Music should stay on the air pending a broader review of the BBC’s digital radio activities. In a statement, the Trust said: "The Trust concludes that, as things stand, the case has not been made for the closure of 6 Music. The Executive should draw up an overarching strategy for digital radio. If the director general wanted to propose a different shape for the BBC's music radio stations as part of a new strategy, the trust would consider it."

Musicians including David Bowie, Lily Allen, Damon Albarn and Coldplay lent their support to 6 Music when its closure was tabled. At the time, Coldplay said: "We are fully behind the campaign to save the incredible 6 Music radio station, which the BBC has announced plans to close. Please show your support by emailing the BBC Trust. If enough of us do that, the BBC Trust may yet refuse to approve the closure of the station, which plays a crucial and unique role in the British music scene. Thank you, Coldplay."

In his initial response to the BBC strategy review, BBC Trust chairman Sir Michael Lyons said that the case for the closure of 6 Music had not been made. He said the Trust - which represents the interests of licence fee payers - would consider closing 6 Music only as part of a wider strategy on the future of digital radio.

Fans launched their protests via online social networks, including Facebook and Twitter, and insiders said the Trust was “overwhelmed” by the public response. An unnamed BBC 6 presenter said: “There is a feeling that they will not kill us straight off.”

Last week Jarvis Cocker, the 6 Music DJ, said that the BBC Trust should come to a firm decision on the station’s future straight away. “You’ve had such a lot of people speaking out, you should stick to your timetable and give an answer,” he said. “It is not nice to have the Sword of Damocles hanging over the head of the people who work there.”

Coldplay have crammed so much plant life into new studios that their support staff have labelled it "The Greenhouse", reports The Sun this morning, in an article that follows on nicely from Roadie #42's latest blog last week. The Sun continues, "Frontman Chris Martin is taking a keen interest in horticulture at the moment. It's taken such a hold that pot plants in the tiny studios - also in north London - are everywhere. A pal said: "With all the greenery in there it's now a real squeeze."

Meanwhile, Chris took in a little of London's sunshine on Thursday afternoon and showed off the new studs in both his ears. Isn't he a bit old for that?"

Given that Chris & Will are making music together I'd say it's even more likely that they would have the same likes and interests musically. Silly billy! When I've needed to clean dust from my pc's keyboard I find a soft, clean and dry paintbrush does the trick. My mac's keyboard was fairly easy to remove and replace. There are tips to help you with this problem but if you opt for removal, maybe get a friend to record you with a camera so you can watch it back if you're nervous about making a mistake. Remember to erase the video of course because you specifically wanted to leave no evidence!

The interesting history began on September 14th 2002 when adverse weather conditions forced the band to cancel their show in Atlanta on the eve of the gig. He didn't end up watching with the band by the way who were obviously disappointed with the final score but I have to say even though David James let 4 goals in, he had a a pretty hard job and the best team on the day won. Q. While Yellow was played during the Viva La Vida tour, giant yellow balls were released into the crowd. When the song was over, the yellow balls seemed to disappear. I would have thought that the crowd would have kept the balls bouncing. How is it that the yellow balls disappeared almost on cue?

For those who didn't know, the yellow balls were actually balloons. They were initially bounced around the arenas/stadiums during the song. Although some were saved (or bravely attempted to be by some) most were popped to release their confetti. A couple made it back to the stage where Chris would pop them with his guitar on the final note.

Ah, again a scone is totally different. We see that as an afternoon tea speciality here not a breakfast item... This also answers someone's question of what to do in London. There are cheaper versions; this place is famous for it though.

Charles Allen has resigned as executive chairman of EMI's recorded music division after three months in the role as part of a management shake-up at the debt-laden music group, according to The Guardian last week.

Allen, former boss of ITV, took the top job in March following the sudden departure of chief executive Elio Leoni-Sceti, having previously been non-executive chairman. It seems that a strategic review which he led at the company, whose stars include Coldplay and Norah Jones, has made his position redundant. As part of the shake-up, EMI's recorded music business and music publishing operation will be brought under a single management structure under the command of Roger Faxon, head of the publishing arm.

Insiders said there was no question of Allen falling out with EMI's owner, Terra Firma, the private equity firm that bought music group for £4bn at the height of the credit boom in 2007. Allen will continue as an adviser to EMI and Terra Firma boss Guy Hands.

Another casualty of the changes is former BBC director general Lord Birt, who is stepping down as chairman of Maltby Capital, the holding company of EMI. Birt will move on to other Terra Firma assignments, focusing on acquisitions and strategy. His position will be taken by Stephen Alexander, a director at Maltby for nearly two years. An EMI spokesman said that the company was repositioning itself as "a rights management company that can take full advantage of global opportunities in all markets for music".

Although recorded music and publishing, which owns the rights to artists' songs, will continue to operate as separate entities, the new structure will bring them closer together than ever before. Faxon said: "We need to harness things a bit better and build a broader, deeper business overall."

The move reflects the diverse and changing landscape of the music market where artists are pitching their music over a much wider range of distribution channels. Faxon admits that the changes do not necessarily make EMI unique, "but the way we apply the concept should allow us to stand out from the rest of the industry".

Allen has tried to turn round the fortunes of EMI, which recently raised £100m from Terra Firma investors to cure a covenant breach. EMI owes £3bn to US investment bank Citigroup which could have seized control of the music firm if its capital raising exercise had failed. The company has been a disastrous investment for Hands because of its high indebtedness. Relations between Citigroup and Hands have soured and Hands has taken out a multi-billion dollar lawsuit, accusing the bank of making him overpay for EMI by pretending that another buyer was interested. Citigroup vigorously denies the allegations which will be heard in New York this summer.

Allen's time at EMI was yielding some results: in the last year before he joined, EMI Music's profits before financial charges were £51m. Last year they were £163m – though they were then wiped out by a £1bn writedown in the value of its music catalogue. Speculation continues in the music industry that EMI is about to be sold, most probably to Warner Music, which has been circling the group for much of the past decade.

A number of high-profile artists have ditched EMI since the Terra Firma takeover. Rock band Queen are the latest. Others include Radiohead, the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. Recently, it emerged that the pensions regulator could force EMI to stump up as much as £250m to plug a gap in its pension scheme. The pension fund's board of trustees is demanding that EMI make good the alleged shortfall. But EMI claims the deficit is negligible and stands at no more than £10m.

Pet Shop Boys covered Coldplay during their headlining Glastonbury set last night (June 26). The British pop veterans, playing the event for the first time in 10 years, performed Coldplay's 2008 UK Number One single 'Viva La Vida' as part of their hit-laden set on The Other Stage.

Meanwhile Coldplay themselves are amongst the greatest Glastonbury headliners of all time according to a muzu.tv poll. Their performance in 2002 came ninth in the best Glastonbury acts list. Radiohead and Sir Paul McCartney came first and second respectively. Blur's 2009 headline act came in at third followed by Jay-Z in fourth and David Bowie in fifth for his 2000 show. Sixth place went to Pulp's 1995 show, the White Stripes in 2005 were seventh, with Bruce Springsteen's 2009 headliner eighth, Coldplay in 2002 ninth, and REM's 1999 show ranked 10th.

Q. Dear Oracle, I've got a stinking cold and I'm using a well-known cold remedy (I'm assuming I can't say the name of it?). You put a sachet in a cup, fill it with water and then drink. The instructions say use "hot, but not boiling water". Do you know why you can't use boiling water? Does it affect the ingredients in the sachet? And if that doesn't work, have you got any tips for what will make me feel better?

I'm gonna throw caution to the wind and say it's the same reason as not making coffee with boiling water; it burns! It's actually a health & safety issue; they don't want any accidents occurring. The powder is slightly effervescent too and so boiling water could make its volume increase pretty quickly.

Q. Hello! Before I tell you what's up, if you don't answer this, I'm going to assume that the answer is something I don't want to hear, and you don't want to announce to the world that the person in question did this.... There are very few things that will make me stop liking a band that I've loved for a long time, and lip-synching is one of them. On YouTube there is a video of the band Mew performing at some awards ceremony and it seems that Jonas is lip-synching. I don't know why he would do this because he is actually one of the best singers I've ever heard. Please tell me that someone dubbed the video and put the album version over the footage! I really hope this isn't real.

You have to remember Anna that sometimes TV shows insist on miming to backing tracks so it's not always the artist's decision and some do refuse to appear if they can't play live. The reasons for lip synching can be sometimes technical. It can be time consuming to mix the sound of many performers appearing on different stages for example; it's also easier. Situations where the artist may prefer to mime are if they're also performing an energetic dance routine or they be feeling under the weather. I can't see Jonas from Mew needed breathing space from dancing so maybe in this case it was a decision forced upon them by the show.

In 2003 there was a Coldplay competition based on the opening lyric from Politik followed by the number 1560 on the back page of the AROBTTH tour programme.

Giles Greenwood (who also designed the programme as well as other merch items) came up with the idea that drove thousands of fans crazy. Very few people worked out the answer to the riddle which was asking what the significance of that number 1560 was. It was all connected to how many days it had been from the band signing to Parlophone to the last tour date on the AROBTTH tour.

Well of course Laurie I am going to say a few wise things first like... underage drinking is not a good idea. When you're of age it's not always a great idea either but hey, at the time we tell ourselves it is. So, drinking alcohol responsibly and in moderation certainly reduces the chance of a bad hangover. Other than that: don't mix your drinks, drink plenty of water in between and before you go to bed. Assuming - as I am - that you've failed on all the above points my best hangover cure is a banana milkshake, 2 ibuprofen, a milk thistle tablet and a hair wash. If that fails me I add a packet of salt & vinegar crisps to the mix and a can of cola. But remember, prevention is the best cure...

Given that wedding vows are all about "'til death do us part" I'd say it doesn't matter one iota if the song was or wasn't written about death; it sounds like a perfect song to choose. If you hear a different meaning in the lyrics it's what it means to you and so it fits.

This version of Viva la Vida is the Thin White Duke Mix. We released the track on this very website for a limited time too and it was heard the world over on the recent tour as an interlude between Stage C and the final section on the main stage. FYI: As previously mentioned, in this case Stuart Price is the Thin White Duke, not David Bowie!

Well actually Arthur, "you" don't, I do that from here. When I get a question that has a web address / URL in it, I reduce it to the clickable link by using computer syntax. For instance if you'd asked how you put a word as a link like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperlink, I'd have changed it to this link.

As you can see from your address bar; they're the same page whichever I put.

MTV may have wrote a nice long article on Coldplay's new album in the last few hours entitled "Coldplay Back In 'Exploratory' Mood During Rebooted Album Sessions", but the important part comes right at the very end - a spokesperson for the band had "no additional news to share, other than the fact that the album definitely isn't coming this year."

UPDATE: The article has now been changed to "Though a spokesperson for the band could not be reached for comment at press time, Coldplay have said they're aiming to have the new, yet-untitled album in stores by Christmas." Read on for the rest of the article... [thanks MeriCri]

Even harder, though, is describing those songs before they are even halfway finished and trying to make sense of what they may turn into...

In the case of Coldplay, that job currently falls to the mysterious "Roadie #42," who has been posting infrequent updates on the band's website, the latest of which promises that the tunes for their follow up to the world smash Viva la Vida will be full of, well, "killer" songs. Roadie, who revealed that his/her role has recently expanded to engineering the album, said a few of the lyrics from the band's debut hit "Yellow" — "your skin and bones turn into something beautiful" — aptly describe the current process. "With the project getting something of a reboot after Latin America, they've been very much back in the exploratory phase again," #42 wrote. "As described in the previous blog, there is a list of songs now and those songs have verses, choruses, riffs, lyrics and so on. These are the raw materials, though. Unrefined and rough, this is the record's skin and bones, if you will. The 'turning into something beautiful' bit is the result of two methodologies."

Working again with Brian Eno, Coldplay have been tracking the album at their new studio in London and in Budapest, and after a recent tour of South America, #42 said they were recently back at work in earnest. Eno has tried to shake things up by forcing singer Chris Martin to work separately from his bandmates and then pairing the band's members up at random to push the envelope. When last we checked in, the Roadie said rough mixes for a number of songs and a "possible running order" had already been written up.

The first methodology is what Eno calls the "screwdriver work," the craftsmanship and songwriting phase where everything is "tried and changed, analysed and re-appraised" in search of that special Coldplay magic. The second are the "happy accidents" that happen when someone is just noodling around or putting words from a different song onto a new arrangement.

"Both things get the record made and neither can be invoked by attempting the other," #42 wrote. "Sitting around waiting for inspiration doesn't get the hard work done and long conversations and methodical approaches can waste hours when a single snap of brilliance can change everything in an instant."

While Eno has been popping in to check on progress, he's also been leaving the band alone to get things done. "It's been noted that he's having as much effect on the record when he isn't here as when he is. The band observed a little while ago that very often when they were working without him and getting stuck, they'd think of something that he would say and apply it, getting them 'over the hump.' " In order to help, the band asked Eno to come up with a kind of Ten Commandments they could hang on the studio wall that would help them get out of musical dilemmas.

The rules appear to be working, as Roadie described: "I've seen Chris on more than one occasion get halfway through playing something a little too flowery or 'done before,' before breaking down in laughter and shaking his head, saying, 'All I can hear in the back of my head is Brian telling me off.' "

The band is on break again for a few weeks, spending time with family, but not before a recent spurt of hard work that consisted of " a real concerted effort to push every song to a place that everyone was excited about ... Anything that's not as great as the current favourite song gets strong focus. Problems get the spotlight so that they can't hide. A verse that's not flowing into the bridge gracefully can get a whole day's attention — the screwdrivers have well and truly been out."

After weeks of tweaking the little details and only paying attention to the bits that don't work, Roadie said the band is now taking a longer step back and "trying to objectively experience what they have made so far. I could be mistaken, but it genuinely felt as though there was real excitement spreading through the room. Perhaps it began to dawn on the fellas that what they have here is more than just a collection of intros, verses and choruses.

"The songs haven't assumed their final beautiful form yet, but they're a very long way from their skin and bones phase. What's impossible not to conclude, though, is that they have some absolutely killer tunes. I have no idea whether the fellas left for their break proud of what they've achieved so far and excited about what they have here, but I really hope so. They should be."

Though a spokesperson for the band could not be reached for comment at press time, Coldplay have said they're aiming to have the new, yet-untitled album in stores by Christmas.

Coldplay have had several weeks off after spending two months holed up in an abandoned North London church working non-stop on the new record. They are now back at work, and intent on completing their as-yet-unnamed record as soon as possible. Coldplay have kept extremely quiet about the style and contents of their new album, but Roadie #42 has previously revealed the band had written so much new material, they were struggling to decide what to put on the album. Coldplay is hoping to release their new record at Christmas.

R#42 said the new tracks are 'killer', even though they are not finished. "The songs haven't assumed their final beautiful form yet but they're a very long way from their skin and bones phase," he wrote. "What's impossible not to conclude is that they have some killer tunes."

Coldplay and Libertines guitarist Carl Barat were among the guests at The Strokes' first UK gig in four years on Wednesday night (9th June). BBC News reports that the pair attended the 'Reptilia' band's show at the 450-capacity Dingwalls in London. According to XFM, four people must've seen Chris Martin arriving and tried to enter the premises as his bandmate. They said: "Coldplay appear. Jonny Buckland from the band gives his name on the door. 'No mate. You’re the fifth person tonight to give that name.' Chris Martin interjects. 'He IS in Coldplay.'"

The New York band performed under the pseudonym Venison for the show at the 450-capacity venue Dingwalls in London. One fan who paid £100 for a ticket told BBC 6 Music: "I would have paid a lot more for it. I've been listening to The Strokes since their first album and I've never had the opportunity to see them live."

Another who had sold a spare ticket for £200 on eBay added: "I go to a lot of gigs, I don't like ticket touting, but it was an opportunity I couldn't let go. I feel bad for doing it but I'm not going to say no to a hundred quid."

Q. Why hello, Oracle. I've got quite a problem and seek your advice! I've already reached twenty years of age, and I want to start my own life already, but my mother is very, very, VERY clingy and pretty much does not want me to leave my home at all whatsoever, even with my fiancee. She says I can leave when I want, but when I do say I want to go, she says I can't and starts a big fight over it. I really love my mom and all, but I don't know what to do, I am really tired of sitting about doing nothing, and I already want to start seeking my love for art as well as spread my own wings and fly to new places, I want to start my life with my fiancee as well. How can I do this without truly angering my mom and getting her to let me go? I really don't want to have to leave by force and get her even more upset, I care about her more than she believes I do...

It's a tricky question because I don't want to offend anyone with my answer! You might be your mother's child (and forever will be) but you are now an adult so don't feel that you can't start living as one! There, I said it! Of course it's always lovely to be respectful of parents and to do what you can for them but you do not have to feel guilty; it's your life and your Mum will soon get used to your new found freedom. By the way... 20 and still living at home... Boys do tend to hang around longer so yes it sounds like time to cut those strings. If financial reasons make getting your own place a difficult option why not set a goal to make it achievable. Or try flat sharing as it isn't as costly. I can understand why you don't want to leave in anger but just talk to your Mum gently and explain that at some point she did the same, as did your father as indeed most of us do. In fact, so will any future kids you may have so it's all a cycle of life and growing up. Mothers can find it very hard to see their children leave especially if you are either an only child or the youngest; try to give her as much notice as possible so you can both prepare for it but once you've left, be mindful not to return just for cash hand-outs or to have your washing done!

The word hole is not used to describe Amsterdam! It has several meanings (one of which is the same as yours) but in this case it means to get out of a bad situation. I have been to Amsterdam many times (as have the band) and you can rest assured it's no hole; it's amazing!

Q. O wise Oracle, I come seeking your advice, for I am in a bit of a pickle. A giant pickle. Right now is a pivotal turning point my life, where I am now realizing who I really am. I have realized that I adore the arts, and that that is who I am. But my parents see potential somewhere else. Somewhere really distant. Say, in mathematics or sciences. They say that art is not a possible career, that it will lead only to misery and unhappiness. They wish for me to throw myself deeper and deeper into more academic fields. For some reason, it's really quite depressing when they say those words. I think I've cried more over this than anything else. To me, artistic expression is quite possibly one of the only reasons why I am still sane. That, and listening to music. Especially Coldplay. I'm currently painting an acrylic work on canvas based on "Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground". I know I can't have both. Either of the two paths take a substantial chunk out of my time if I choose to invest in them. I don't know whether I should forsake my heart, soul, and sanity, or respect my parents' wishes. Personal fulfillment or academic achievement and potentially more wealth in the future. I don't know which to choose. Please, please help me, Oracle. Thank you, Catherine

Personally I am a great believe in pursuing your dreams and setting realistic goals so if you've got the talent and passion - which I can tell you have, go for it! Don't look back and regret what you didn't do; life's too short. And just to throw an idea in the mix which may be something you haven't considered but you CAN have both; for instance architecture is certainly a meeting of art and mathematics!

Welcome to the first in a new series of interviews here on Coldplay.com, where we'll be talking to the designers behind the band's single and album covers, trying to find out the stories behind them. We begin with Coldplay's very first release, the self-funded Safety EP, of which only 500 copies were released in May 1998. Its cover was designed by a friend of the band, John Hilton. Read what he has to say about it below this nice, big picture of the cover...

Hi John. So you designed Coldplay's first two covers.

I did, yeah. The Safety one and the Brothers & Sisters one.

How did you meet them?

I was friends with Jonny from school. In fact, I was in a band with him in sixth form. When he moved to London for university, I moved to Birmingham to do an art course. They started doing their band stuff and I'd come down to visit them in halls of residence. I was doing photography at the time, so I was taking lots of photographs of them when they first started.

And how did you come to design the Safety EP cover?

My course was a a commercial art course, so I asked if I could do a cover for one of my projects. And they were happy to do that. At the time, nobody really thought they were going anywhere, so nobody was that bothered!

Where is that photograph from?

It's just a photograph that I took of Chris. Just a really blurry picture. And the Safety bit actually came from the little bit of writing on the top of the camera film. I just dropped the negative down and it came out on the print.

Is that where it got its title from?

I think so, yeah. They were happy just to leave it there. So the name came from the picture.

Where's the picture of Chris from?

Probably from a gig at the Laurel Tree, in London.

Is it deliberately blurred?

Well, there were just loads of pictures, all in black and white. There were blurred ones and sharp ones, but that one just looked nicely weird. I suppose at the time, I was justifying it as trying to capture him moving around the stage and being all crazy. And it also it fitted in with that dark, Radiohead-y thing that everyone was into at the time.

Did you create the Coldplay logo too?

I can't actually remember who did that. But I might well have done.

Did you have other ideas for that cover?

I think there's a sketch book somewhere full of other ideas. There were even more Brothers & Sisters. I've got a whole notebook somewhere where Chris and the boys have written comments on each picture, saying things "No, I don't like this one, it's too spooky" or whatever. And then eventually we'd narrow it down to the one that they liked.

Were they taking the band quite seriously by this point?

Oh, definitely. At the time I did think they were going to get big, and I was telling all my mates at college about them. I remember when they did start making it, I was like "See, I told you!" It did always seem like they'd get somewhere. I'd go up with them to In The City or whatever to help put up posters and that sort of thing. It was obvious they were really good, but whether you got that lucky break or not was another thing. Happily, they did.

Were they demanding about the Safety EP cover?

No, they were quite easy with that one. The second one was a bit more difficult.

The Safety EP itself is worth quite a lot of money now.

Yeah. And guess what, I haven't got any! At the time my dad was telling me to ask for loads of them, but I thought that'd be a bit crass! But I used to take a few copies round in my portfolio when I was trying to get work as a graphic designer. They'd started to get big by then and it was a really good way of getting jobs in design places. My two are not the most amazing covers, obviously, but they did help me get some jobs! But as a consequence, I broke all the CD cases that I had and the CDs themselves got pulled out and put in different places, so I've ended up with none.

It'll cost you quite a bit to buy another.

Apparently so. I've heard they go for £800 on eBay.

But you're not very proud of the cover?

Actually, I like the Safety EP one. It's not a brilliant photograph by any means, but the reason I like it is that it's a photograph by a kid at college of some kids at college and they went on to be a really big band. So, in that way, I'm really chuffed about it.

Today I visited a famous antiques fair here, to find pictures to Guy ... every time, I thought that if he had been there, he would have been like a kid in a toy store haha and he probably would have bought at least half of the fair haha ... You aren't limited to just sending one but given you live so far away I don't want you to spend a lot of money on postage so don't feel you have to send lots of pictures but you can send as many as you like. As long as they are discovered/discarded/found/retrieved photographs and not personal ones we're happy to see them all and will be receiving them for a good few months I expect. Anchorman will make an announcement to give notice of when the collecting is coming to an end.

Well I'm sure many fans do miss those original versions but there were a heck of a lot who loved hearing newer updated versions on the last tour! If those songs make it onto any future tour's set list it would be very doubtful they'd remain the same as for the Viva tour anyway. The same could be said for the acoustic songs also...

See You Soon was released in 1999 on the The Blue Room EP and Songbird is an Oasis song that Coldplay covered live years ago; there's no way that either of these songs will appear on the next album. Lost? was only available as a bonus track on the Japanese and iTunes release so wasn't on the original album format; we don't include the bonuses in our Recordings section. There was another version, Lost+ available on Prospekt's March - as you are probably aware.

Q. Dear Oracle, I need some advice. I'm moving in 5 weeks across the country. I'm leaving all my extended family and friends. I'm not worried about my destination... I'm not worried about making new friends... but how do I make it through these next 5 weeks??? My friends want to throw a going-away party but I'm afraid I'd cry the whole time (happy and sad tears). The tears just come at random times. How can I keep from falling apart? How do I make it through an emotional 5 weeks without being emotional the whole time? I have hope... I don't think all is lost... I just need to make it through these short 5 weeks... for me, my hubby and my 5 kids. Any and all advice is much appreciated. I hope you're enjoying your sunny weather over there! We're quite jealous over here in Oregon! ~Carrie

Well Carrie I guess you'll have a lot to occupy you in the next 5 weeks what with packing and seeing family and friends before you leave. Maybe while you're packing you could see if there are any items you'd like to gift to people rather than take so you know they'll always think of you when they use it/read it/listen to it or whatever. It's a lovely idea to have a party but if you do, focus on the happy tears because this goodbye doesn't have to mean Adieu (until God) but Au revoir (until we see each other again). You'll always have your memories but take lots of pictures of everyone and everything to take with you. You could make an album with your children. You could also get your and their friends to write a message in a book of a favourite memory; don't read it until you are in your new place or it really will set those tears off! You're about to start a whole new journey that you can share with those left behind via webcam chats, phone calls, emails and/ or letters with photos. It'll be an adventure for all of you! Good luck! By the way, today is sunny but yesterday it did not stop persisting it down all day and was cold with it!!

Once the single was released by Embrace it was more their song than Coldplay's even though it is theirs originally of course. I'm pretty sure they haven't played Gravity live since 2002 apart from a brief time in 2005. Around that time it was performed live, recorded and released as a b-side for the single Talk.

Well, I have to say it's a great little pop song and one million times (if not more) better than the worst UK entry for some time which wholeheartedly deserved to bomb and come last. This country has so much musical talent and we end of with that excrement? Baffling. Anyway I do have a comment to make about the whole Eurovision Song Contest winner... Lena's song was available as a download back in March and has been number one in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as appearing on iTunes charts all across Europe - including Ireland. I think that is a massive advantage as it's already a huge hit. It was a deserved winner even though in my opinion I think it's time for a complete overhaul as it was pretty dreadful as usual.

Despite its all-star composition of Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, Mew frontman Jonas Bjerre, and a-ha guitarist/keyboardist Magne Furuholmen, the super group Apparatjik has remained relatively low-key since forming in 2008. It took them two years to drop a single and even longer to make a live debut. Now, with little to no fanfare, the band has dropped details for the worldwide release of its full-length debut, reports Consequence of Sound today.

Now c'mon that's not very sporting - or supporting - of you! Don't write your team off just yet. As my mother used to say (and probably still does) "it's not the winning that counts but the taking part". I don't think you necessarily have to be a fan of football to get involved in cheering your team on. I doubt there's anything you could do that would distract your Dad and Brother from watching the World Cup and I for one shall be joining them - not physically so don't worry!

Who am I to argue? They both have inky quills is a popular answer but as with most of Lewis Carroll's work; it's not necessarily something to make sense of. He highlights my point from the other day of how the Lost writers could have had so much fun with their ending...

Q. Hola Oracle!! I was taking a look at The World Turned Upside Down lyrics in the Recordings section at this website and I found there's a line missing, in the verse that is right after the first chorus:

"X is Y

I'd like to know what really goes there, the "official" lyrics, so as to say...

You'd think that as we are the official site with the official lyrics you could count on us wouldn't you? Unfortunately the simple truth is the lyrics are incomplete because a certain Chris Martin can't actually decipher (or remember) what he sang at the time of recording! Quite frankly, neither could we so we have left an honest gap to show that we haven't a clue what should go there!

Good because the answer to the question is... it's the highly irritating Joss Stone who apparently doesn't give a **** if I (or anyone else) don't like her affected American accent that she brought back with her in 2007 after recording there. Well I gave her a free plug so she can't complain much. The girl can sing though.

Back in 2002 Ash made headlines with a DIY slasher movie they filmed on a camcorder whilst on tour. The film featured cameos from likes of Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland from Coldplay and the Foo Fighters Dave Grohl.

Written by Jed Shepherd, it was never completed and was stored away like the Ark. With their A- Z single series ongoing Ash decided to dig it out it of their archive and compiled a 5 minute version - featuring Coldplay and Charlotte Hatherley - to use as an alternative video for current single Binary - letter Q in the series - and released this week.

Gorillaz have been confirmed to replace U2 as Friday night headliners at Glastonbury Festival next month. Coldplay, Led Zeppelin and Dizzee Rascal had all been rumoured but it’s Damon Albarn’s cartoon collective that will fill the slot.

The group- which is likely to include guests like Mos Def, Kano, Shaun Ryder and De La Soul- have only played a few full live dates until now. Gorillaz made their live comeback at the Coachella festival in California and then played two shows at the Roundhouse in London.

Glasto organiser Michael Eavis said: “This is going to be Gorilllaz' only UK festival appearance, and it'll be a massive audio visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow.”

“I'm very excited about Gorillaz' show coming here because they're so open to guests and collaborations.., I am so grateful for the enthusiasm of the media and the whole of the music industry for their willingness and eagerness to support us in what could have been a crisis.”

U2 pulled out this week after singer Bono injured his back. It will be the second year in a row that Damon Albarn has headlined at Glasto- last year he was on stage with his reformed first band Blur.

Coldplay are the bookies tip to replace U2 at Glastonbury 2010 as headliners, The Metro have confirmed. Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has not confirmed whether U2's slot will now be cancelled or replaced by another band. Instead, he said: ‘We would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.’

However, Coldplay have emerged as the bookies favourite to become the headline act. Ladbrokes have given the band odds of 2/1 to take U2's place, with Aussie popstrel Kylie coming a close second, also with odds of 2/1.

And Billboard confirms that a British act has been signed up to fill U2's headline slot at Glastonbury on June 25. Operations director Melvin Benn tells Billboard a deal "is done" and confirms that the act replacing U2 is British. He adds that the name will be unveiled "very soon."

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: "There are few bands up there with U2 in the global superstar stakes, but Coldplay are one of them, with a massive following. They are well-suited to Glastonbury and would certainly be a very popular alternative to Bono's group. Kylie would also be a viable option for the organisers. She's a top performer and would definitely get the crowd rocking. She'd relish the chance to headline the festival."

Other performers being touted as U2 replacements include Dizzee Rascal, with odds of 9/4, the Rolling Stones at 4/1, Led Zeppelin at 12/1, Sir Paul McCartney 12/1, Kings of Leon 16/1 and Jay-Z being offered at 50/1. However, it appears that neither Florence and the Machine or Dizzee Rascal - the favorite with bookmakers - will step up to headline the Pyramid Stage at the U.K festival. Both acts play Glastonbury on June 25 but Benn says of the replacement act for U2: "They weren't on the bill already."

Q. Are you aware of the So Sad petition that's been going on since 2006? No dice huh? Have you heard the song?

Yes I am aware of the petition and yes, I have heard the song. For those that don't know So Sad was a very early Coldplay song that was played live back in 1998. They did record it roughly - before the Safety E.P's release - but it was never available in the public domain apart from snippets of a live version. There is at least one cassette with a studio recording of the song on it but it won't be released.

Q. Dear Wise One, Do watch Lost, the tv show? If you do, what did you think of the ending.

I watched the very first season of Lost (I always want to add an exclamation or question mark to that word now, cheers lads!) and loved it but I couldn't get into the second. That said like so many people I wanted to know how it all ended (er, actually being the Oracle of course I already knew) and have to say it seems to be a very obvious cop out to me. Some of the other ends they tied up were justified but c'mon, is that really the best they could come up with? Imagination should have no limits and it's such a shame that after so many years that's how it ended!

Q. Dear Oracle, do you believe that Peter Crouch was offside on his second goal vs Mexico? Also, how do you think Mexico did against a good England team?

A few guys brought beers round and we spent hours picking what our final squad would be if we were in charge. I didn't win my argument though that I think goals like Peter Crouch's are not really goals at all. Although the ball went in the net it got there by a messy exchange resulting in it sliding down his arm! Hardly skill is it? Anyway, looking back at the replay it did seem he was offside... After visiting Mexico in March I definitely showed more interest in their side last night and although there were a couple of silly mistakes, they played well and I enjoyed the game.

No that's not true at all. Rhythms del Mundo did include their remixed version of Clocks on their album but that was done by using the original and its parts; there was no re-recording or collaboration between the two acts.

Hi Oracle! I was looking up Ode to Deodorant the other day and I was wondering why it's not available on CD or anything? I know it's like Coldplay's first song but it's actually really catchy! Sorry if you've already answered this.

It's not quite their first song but yes, it was rather catchy wasn't it? The thing is it was the second proper recording they did as a band in a studio. They also recorded Brothers & Sisters at the same session. They felt that song represented the direction they were heading in more than Ode so the song was ditched as a potential single or album track. They did play it live for a while too.

Coldplay have reportedly been approached to take over U2's headlining slot at the famed Glastonbury festival - after frontman Bono underwent emergency spinal surgery on Friday (21st May), according to The Sun today. More discussion on this is at the Coldplay Live forum now.

Organisers of the UK's leading music festival are rushing to find a possible replacement for the Beautiful Day hitmakers after Bono injured his back while preparing for the band's 360 Degree world tour. Coldplay are currently working on their next album after wrapping up their Viva La Vida trek - but are said to be considering Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis's offer to play the festival next month (Jun10).

London rapper Dizzee Rascal is also believed to be in consideration for the slot on 25 June (10), according to British newspaper The Sun.

Bono, 50, is said to be recuperating under the care of a sports injury specialist and a neurosurgeon. U2 have scrapped the first show of their North American tour and are expected to make further cancellations due to Bono's back problems.
