If you want a sneak preview to some of the items, Coldplay have posted a couple of pictures on Twitter as they sort out the items in their new studio (pictures are also after the jump). The photos include pedal boards, guitars, cases and a mountain of posters.

If you want to take part in an initiative created by Coldplayers to buy lottery tickets which will lead to bids for items then this is the place to be, otherwise you can continue your discussion on the clearout auctions at the Coldplay forum here onwards. [thanks william_3000, inengsol1500, MeriCri & nancyk58]

Coldplay recently announced that they will be holding the clearout with the proceeds going to charity. All items will be signed or a certificate of authenticity will be issued. The items being sold include costumes, platinum records, the globe from the front of their début album, guitars used to write a lot of early material, and various other instruments, equipment, and memorabilia. "We've accumulated a lot of guitars, keyboards, amps, posters, platinum discs and all sorts of nostalgia... Proceeds will go to Kids Company, an incredible charity that helps vulnerable children and young people in London," said the official website statement.

Cash raised from the sale, which runs until 5pm GMT on December 31, will go to Kids Company, which the group described on their website as "an incredible charity that helps vulnerable children and young people in London". Will people outside of the U.K. be able to bid on these items? I recently attempted to bid on an item posted on the U.K. ebay, but there was no option available (at least not for the U.S.) to purchase because of the dollar/pound exchange issue. As we reported recently, Coldplay have donated £1million to the South London charity, which provides practical and emotional support to children who come from deprived families in the city, and these auctions will help further towards their cause.

The Coldplay yard sale will hit eBay 8 days before Christmas, so you could conceivably buy your girlfriend or boyfriend some autographed, multi-colored armbands just in time for the holiday. You will be charged £50 per ticket PLUS a £5 booking fee PLUS another 50p for the privilege of printing your own tickets (so that's £55 total per person + 50p per booking. Hi Oracle! Today I saw a funny video on YouTube that was called Coldplay Christmas message from 2007. There were videos from 2004, 2005 and 2006 too, but I did not find one from 2008. Is there one ? Just wondering, which Coldplay song contains the lyrics "Drums, here it comes, don't you wish life could be as simple, as fish swimming round in a barrel when you've got the gun"? Thanks, it's been in my head for like 6 months.

The Oracle replies:

Ahhh even reading those lyrics makes my hairs stand up on end. I think with first dances it's more about choosing something that means something to you both so I guess it doesn't matter so much.

December 7, 2009 - submitted by Susanna, Italy

Q. Dear Oracle, What does gobstopper mean? I found it in the Arctic Monkey's hit Crying Lightning, and since I didn't know the meaning, I looked for it on the dictionary (the 2008 edition) and it was not there. Please, could you help me? Loveeeeeeee from Italy =) <3

The Oracle replies:

A gobstopper (aka jawbreaker) is confectionary. Basically it's a very large, round and hard sweet that's commonly difficult to get into your mouth and then around it - hence it's name. You may have heard of the

Coldplay will play in his home town of Exeter on Saturday week but are under orders to keep the noise down. Here's the rest of The Sun's article:

Coldplay will headline the, ahem, Big Noise Session at Exeter Castle - a new concert in aid of Mencap which follows the charity's Little Noise Session in London last month. But the winter wonderland-themed event is limited by a noise abatement order served by Exeter Council in October to control use of amplified sound at the historic venue.

Maybe it explains why Coldplay plan a scaled-down, acoustic set. This also fits plans for their new album, which I told you yesterday will be of acoustic recordings in a church. If not a very big one.

Meanwhile, the owners of Exeter Castle have said a noise abatement order issued on the premises has had no bearing on the type of concert Coldplay are planning to perform there, report Exeter's Express & Echo. Here is their article:

Guy Wadsworth, of the Exeter Castle Partnership, quashed speculation that the order, issued by Exeter City Council in October, had anything to do with Chris Martin and his band opting for a scaled down acoustic set. He has told the Echo it was the band’s decision to do this kind of show, although he emphasised that no sound would be audible from anywhere outside the castle’s grounds. Now in their 4th year, the Little Noise Sessions are curated and hosted by the legendary DJ and Mencap ambassador Jo Whiley who, along with Coldplay's Chris Martin, has been the driving force behind this brand new event, Mencap’s Big Noise Session.

The latest portrait exhibits at the Exhibition Room (at Coldplay.com):

Coldpray: The Sun has new insight into Coldplay's latest album recordings

Coldplay are holed up in a dilapidated north London church crafting a new album, report The Sun this morning. The band only finished their latest leg of their gruelling world tour in September but they are back at the coal face again.

And the fans who worshipped at the altar of last album, Viva La Vida, will be glad to hear super producer Brian Eno is back on board, masterminding a brave new direction for the group. Frontman Chris Martin is concerned the band are being seen as a huge stadium act and totally inaccessible for their loyal fans.

So he has devised a plan with rock deity Eno and bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion to record a stripped-down, more acoustic collection in the eerie church...

It's a big step away from their old HQ, The Bakery in London's Primrose Hill, which has played a huge role in their sound to date. A source said: "The band are keen to make hay while the sun shines. They have hit a rich vein with their songwriting and feel more creative than ever. Chris had wanted to record a new album while they were on the road but it was just too much. They have this work ethic while the going is good to just keep working as hard as possible."

Guitarist Jonny wed girlfriend Chloe only last month. But the source added: "Jonny has thrown himself into the new album, as have all the boys. The results are really exciting so far. Chris is determined not to be seen as a huge commercial rock juggernaut, filling stadiums and cashing in. This is the plan to keep them as close to their fans as possible."

The band aim to release the album next year, a lot earlier than anyone expected - not least their label EMI. They have only one more album to deliver before they can move elsewhere, which will cause a huge stir in the industry. Chris plans to test the songs early in 2010 on their closest pals by inviting them to the church to hear them live.

The band will then record "as live" in the church, then aim to do a tour of smaller venues for fans to hear the new stuff. The late James Brown was known in music circles as the hardest working man in show business, but these boys are doing everything they can to take the title from the Godfather Of Soul.

Full discussion on the new recording sessions news at the Coldplay forum here onwards [thanks inengsol1500]

One things for sure... we can't wait...

Excitement growing ahead of Coldplay's Christmas Mencap concert

Excitement has been growing around the world following the announcement that Coldplay will play a homecoming gig in Exeter in the run-up to Christmas. Full discussion on this Coldplay date can be found at the Coldplay Live forum here onwards. We will have more on the ticket news and availability soon.

As revealed recently through Anchorman on Coldplay.com and the online Exeter Echo, the band will arrive in the Southwest of England for a one-off concert at Exeter Castle on Saturday, December 19, in aid of mental health charity Mencap. Also on the bill is Lily Allen and La Roux but tickets have been limited to 500.

This is expected to result in a mad scramble when they go on sale next week. Coldplay fans from around the world have been expressing their jealousy at not being able to attend the once-in-a-lifetime event. They have been flooding internet message boards in their thousands on social networking sites such as Facebook providing almost unparalleled publicity for Exeter.

Fans from countries including India, Bali, Macedonia and Argentina are among those expressing their envy at city folk who have the chance to hear their heroes. Writing on a Coldplay fansite, Michelle McDougal said: “Exeter is my home town and I don’t arrive back there from the US until the 21st. I can’t believe it.” Kirsten Scudds said: “What an awesome line up, I don’t want to live in Adelaide anymore.”

Meanwhile, top DJ and television presenter Jo Whiley has revealed she has a personal reason for bringing Coldplay and Lily Allen to the city. She has been a longtime supporter of concert beneficiary mental health charity Mencap as her sister, Frances, suffers from a rare, genetic condition known as Lejeune’s Syndrome or cri du chat, the French for call of the cat referring to the characteristic cat-like cry of affected children.

The symptoms mean her sister has no sense of danger, suffers from outbursts and temper tantrums, obsessive behaviour and a short attention span. The illness is congenital and Jo, who is married to Steve Morton and has four children, India, Jude, Cassius, Coco and Lux, is a carrier. In 2006 she said that she had been tested at each of her pregnancies, and that she would have terminated a pregnancy if the tests had proved positive. Jo is a leading force behind Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions. Jo said: “‘Exeter is a part of the world I love. I know it means a lot to Chris to be doing this final gig of the year as a homecoming. I can’t wait to be there.”

Tickets for the concer will be available from Tuesday, December 8, subject to subscription, at www.littlenoisesessions.org.uk costing £50. Exeter residents have an additional chance to buy tickets as a limited number will go on sale at HMV, in Princesshay, Exeter, on Thursday, December 10, before going on general release the next day.

The latest portrait exhibits at the Exhibition Room (at Coldplay.com):

Simon Cowell reportedly in talks with Coldplay for X Factor final appearance

Simon Cowell has reportedly lined up Sir Paul McCartney and George Michael to appear on the final live show on December 12 to duet with this year’s finalists, the Daily Star and other media sources are reporting this week. Cowell is also in talks with Coldplay to appear on the show to duet with Stacey Solomon (if she makes the final). More discussion on this latest Coldplay / X Factor development is here onwards at the Coldplay forum now.

Simon is said to have wanted the biggest guest stars yet to help secure new record viewing figures for the show, which has already seen peak audiences of nearly 17 million tune in over the past 2 months. Advertisers and ITV bosses are expecting nearly 20 million to watch the final which starts from 19:30 on December 12 and concludes at 21:30 on December 13. Coldplay are likely to duet with Stacey who was expressed an interest in singing with the band on Xtra Factor. Her mentor Dannii said: “A Chris Martin and Stacey duet would be incredible.”

It was previously rumoured that Joe would be singing with George Michael if he makes the final and looks set to be true. Sir Paul McCartney will therefore sing with either Olly or Danyl, one of which bookies and polls suggest will leave this weekend.

X Factor mentor Dannii Minogue recently revealed that she wanted Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to perform with Stacey Solomon in the final. Last year, the final three contestants were joined on stage by superstars, with winner Alexandra Burke getting the chance to sing with her idol Beyonce. And it sounds like Dannii is already planning Stacey’s victory, by telling the Dagenham girl’s fans over Twitter that she wants to get Chris on board. When discussing Stacey’s performance in the final, Dannii wrote: “Chris Martin and Stacey duet would be incredible.”

Recently Stacey Soloman was made up to receive a special delivery from Coldplay. The singer - nicknamed Dagenham Stace - was said to be ecstatic when she received a personalised signed disc from frontman Chris Martin and the rest of the band. It read: "We love watching you on TV. Your singing is great and you're very lovely, Coldplay x." See the photo below. Stacey sang Coldplay's track The Scientist in week one of the live finals and received praise from all four of the judges. A source backstage said: "Stacey was over the moon with the present and was quivering with excitement. She literally couldn't believe it. Dannii's thrilled that the band namechecked Stacey, too." [thanks mimixxx]

Stacey Solomon heading for Coldplay duet in the X Factor final?

Coldplay's Oracle reminds us of the horror film featuring Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland

I'm trying to be optimistic but am coming up short.

The Oracle replies:

Well I can see one massive bonus right now... just think how much money you will save not having to buy the other half a Christmas present! Spend it on yourself Caroline as a treat. Single life can sometimes be hard especially if it's not through choice but try to see it as you time. You might be single right now but it doesn't necessarily mean you will be for long so while you are, enjoy yourself by doing what YOU want. Spend as much time as you can doing all the things you like before you get into a relationship that requires compromise and commitment. It can be very empowering to have the freedom to decide when and where you go out or in fact stay in... And who with; I bet there are many people who would envy that. Make the most of this precious time and you will be appreciate yourself more. Try not to see it as a negative but more of being the captain of your own ship with a crew of one. Dear Oracle, I am in love with a girl whom I proposed to about 8 months now. Yet she hasn't given her answer to me. If I ask her best friend, she says I don't have a chance, yet I am not willing to accept that fact. We do get close sometimes, but that isn't enough as she keeps hurting me with different reason, and the one I hate most is when she purposely tries to make me jealous talking to other guys. My question is am I wasting my time here?

The Oracle replies:

To put it bluntly, yes it does sound as though you are wasting your time. As long as you continue on this path you're not doing what's best for you. If you are as determined as you seem to be my suggestion is to back off and leave her alone. You may find that when you take away the interest she won't like it. This can be a true test of how someone feels and she may then come to you. I won't lie though, if she's not responded with a "yes" by now and is flirting with other guys it may be that she's not interested in you in that way but likes the attention.

Official photos of Coldplay at Wembley stadium, London, UK (18th & 19th September 2009):

Photos by Penny Howle (courtesy of Coldplay.com)

Coldplay to play Christmas Mencap show in Exeter on December 19th

Hi almighty Oracle! There is this documentary/book/movement called The Secret, I've watched the documentary myself.. and just wanted to know what do you think about mind power? AC. Thanks a lot, Flor

The Oracle replies:

For those that don't know, The Secret explains that the law of attraction is the most powerful law in the Universe. For me personally I feel that you can get back what you put in and that includes times when I have felt the need for positive change. Rather than say "I wish" or "I want" something I have believed that it will happen and therefore affirmed it by saying it as if it's already fact. I have to confess that it has worked for me many times so I can't dismiss it. I'm open-minded and I think positive thinking doesn't do any harm. After all if you're not expecting it to go well that proves you're not thinking positively! I am pretty proactive myself anyway and like to think that if I work hard, set myself goals to fulfil my ambitions whilst still remaining kind to others, I can do almost anything!

December 1, 2009 - submitted by Andy, Ireland

Q. 'Ello! I recently decided to become hunky and lose some weight. Now the gentlemen of Coldplay provide the best tunes of all time, but I shuffled long and hard through my CP playlist for a good running tune (apart from last 2 mins of fix you) what would you recommend? PS You're clever , I've knocked the pints on the head but surely a splash of vodka with a wee orange mixer is fine?

The Oracle replies:

I think it would depend on your pace. If you want a gentle jog any will do.

If you prefer a faster soundtrack however... 42 would be a great starter to ease yourself into it and the pounding of Politik would suit your last push before the cool down phase. If you're looking to soundtrack the entire run with Coldplay, when you want to pick up the speed Yellow, Clocks, Daylight, One I Love, Square One, Viva la Vida, Life in Technicolor ii, Glass of Water, Rainy Day, Lost! or Lovers in Japan to name a few. Vodka, gin, rum are your best choice of spirits - in moderation of course - with soda water or a diet mixer. Yes I know you're not keen but honestly the taste will grow on you and try a few different flavours and brands before you dismiss them! Stay away from wine though champagne isn't as bad. Good luck, I'm proud of you...

Official photos of Coldplay at Wembley stadium, London, UK (18th & 19th September 2009):

Photos by Penny Howle (courtesy of Coldplay.com)

Coldplay: The story of how {The Revolutionaries} took on the world and won (Q Magazine article)

That's where I first heard Marc Bolan, Bowie, The Smiths and Primal Scream, and booked them for the festival.

When I stopped milking after 40 years, I got a Roberts radio for the farm kitchen. It doesn't have quite as crisp a sound but I can still remember the morning I came down and first heard Coldplay's Yellow. I just thought it was such a beautiful and uplifting sound. Chris Martin's voice is just so inspiring on that record. It was the start of the millennium and I think we all wanted to feel that way a little bit, didn't we? "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you?" Brilliant stuff...

That was early 2000, but I didn't actually meet them until later that year, when they stepped in to help me during a crisis. We have a Pilton fete each year - to say thank you to the village for putting up with us. The Strokes were booked, but they had to pull out at the last minute. Emily, my daughter, said: "Why don't you phone Chris?" She had his number. She just dialled and put me on. He was in Paris, but he agreed to fly to Bristol where I picked the band up in one of the farm vehicles. I always remember the security woman at the airport telling me that I couldn't park a farm vehicle outside the revolving doors at arrivals. It was on the drive back to Pilton that I said: "Will you headline the Friday night next year?" Chris was delighted and we shook on it. The manager got a bit worried because they were working on A Rush Of Blood To The Head. But Chris was as good as his word. The show was extraordinary. Sometimes you get a feeling: "This is going to be one of the biggest bands ever." I got it that Friday night.

Chris has integrity, a conscience and he's funny and intelligent. That's quite a good combination. It's not for me to comment on the lifestyles and beliefs of the bands we put on, but we have bands where they come on and deliver something incredible and intense but afterwards that's it. It is refreshing to meet a rock star and think, "This one's got a brain." He went to Sherborne, a local school, and when I chat to him there is a definate South West bond.

I think it's difficult for someone to be that famous and retain a sense of themselves as a person. After they last played he came back to the farmhouse and we had a little party. Chris tried to tame the farmhouse piano. He played till 4am and only afterwards did he complain saying, "That piano could do with tuning." I admire a rock star who's willing to battle away on a piece of old junk.

I admire a man who's willing to take a risk. We saw them again when their third album, X&Y, was coming out. EMI issued a profits warning partly due to the delay in the album and Chris said, "Shareholders are evil." It reminded me of Isambard Kingdom Brunel building the Great Western railway from Paddington to Bristol in the 19th century. It was a labour of love, but the financiers forced him to get it done. Chris has faced a lot of that this decade. He is trying to retain some human values in a world of pounds, shilling and pence.

I think you can tell a lot about someone from the way they react to my cheese. These rock stars can buy anything, so I like to give a cheese as a thank you. A hand-made cheese. That cheese is part of the farm and what we're trying to do here. Some people don't understand that gesture. But Chris totally gets my cheese.

Coldplay's Oracle remembers Chris Martin's jump at Round Chapel in 2005

Anchorman reported earlier this month that iheartradio added the Stripped performance from July to their website and since then the track has been picked up. The fact that the song is a cover of a well known recently deceased artist no doubt made it a track of interest; that said it was therefore a "new" tune in the set on tour and not available on a Coldplay recording so that's another reason radio would be keen to play it. I'm afraid this year I didn't dress up for Halloween...most unlike me.

Official photos of Coldplay at Wembley stadium, London, UK (18th & 19th September 2009):

Photos by Penny Howle (courtesy of Coldplay.com)

[Reminder] Coldplay, A-Ha and Mew members form Apparatjik (new single today)

UPDATE: Electric Eye is now available via http://apparatjik.com/scrambled/

Coldplay may be on a 'break', but you may have heard by now that bassist Guy Berryman has emerged with a side project: Apparatjik.com (which will probably be pronounced incorrectly every single time), which plans to move swiftly — the band has already e-mailed its first song to select fans and is aiming to release its debut album very soon. Furthermore, the new single 'Electric Eye' is available from today (November 30). Some break.

With a-ha’s Magne Furuholmen on guitar, Mew’s Jonas Bjerre on vocals and Guy Berryman on bass, Apparatjik will release its song 'Electric Eye', the first single from their debut album, today (November 30th) via their website. Last week's links to a one minute sample of the song are still available now. The band has also contributed a very Coldplay-esque song, 'Ferreting' to the soundtrack for the BBC's Amazon documentary.

Coldplaying has been in contact with Apparatjik's design agency who are working with Guy Berryman et al ahead of the upcoming releases. If and when we get exclusive insights from the Aspire Design studios, as we have been promised, we will of course let you know!

Back to Apparatjik, or at least the forming of, as Spinner noted, Chris Martin — not Guy Berryman — seemed to be the Coldplay member with the A-ha fixation. Chris has always credited the 1980s Norwegian pop outfit for inspiring him to form his own band. But either way, it will be fun to see the Norwegian influence (and the Danish influence!) on the Coldplay template.

As for the other Coldplay members' plans during their hiatus? They’re apparently using their time off to actually relax as opposed to gunning on their own side projects. Sort of. Chris Martin will be visiting Springfield and possibly the courthouse, while drummer Will Champion is experimenting with electronic rhythms. And Jonny Buckland just got hitched to his longtime partner. Sounds like a fun break to us, especially after a grueling world tour.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has always credited 1980s Norwegian pop band A-Ha for inspiring him to form his own band, but it's Martin's bandmate who is actually making music with a member of the 'Take On Me' troupe. Bassist Guy Berryman has teamed with the Scandinavian group's keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and their producer Martin Terefe, along with Mew frontman Jonas Bjerre, to form a new project known as Apparatjik.

Discussion on Apparatjik is now available at the Coldplay forum here and here at the World of Music forum. The track called Electric Eye, with be available to all on 30th November. The EyeOn Committee has decided to give everyone who has submitted a synopsis access to a track from the upcoming Apparatjik album. You are one of only 30 people to own this track. Spread the word and the Committee will make an extended version of the track available to all as a free download through www.apparatjik.com on November 30th. Please enjoy your new Electric Eye. [via Electric Eye]

A new song from Apparatjik has been sent to the 30 people who submitted their synopsis of the 4 videos in their website. It's a track from their forthcoming (but no one knows when) album and it's called Electric Eye. I'm not gonna post the entire song, since it was given to those who've been creative and participative to their project, it's just a 1 minute sample, which I hope is gonna make you want to listen more. If that's the case, you can have the whole song by submitting your synopsis or you can wait 'till November 30th when they will it make available on their website. Some of us decided to give people the chance to listen to a sample of this song (I posted it in MM), to try and convince people to keep sending them the synopsis (the stories linking the videos) and promoting them in general, since we've been asked to spread the word. [thanks iriden]

Checked out a few tracks by them - very unconventional but great stuff indeed. A few crazy, independent and shoegazing elements in it. I love the way they apply the instruments. Sorry for the annoying comparison - but to me it kinda sounds like the very early Coldplay style - just Chris' classical songwriting is missing. I'm looking forward to their new tracks. I think Guy had a lot of influence on Coldplay's style from the beginning on. And you can still hear this unique style on almost every Coldplay track. I always wondered which one of the bandmembers is responsible for it - now I think I have a clue and Guy has one more fan. This kind of style brings the edges to Coldplay's music and that's exactly the part of their music that attracted me, all this mystery and the profundity in their songs. I hope it will not get lost along the way because a few steps have already been taken with the last two albums (though not that much with Viva). That's why I am always saying that Chris is nothing without his band members. Please calm down now - I do not mean it as an offence but I think Chris had a tendency to triviality in his songwriting in the recent years, for example more simple song structures. Don't punch me, I said it's just a tendence - I still love Chris and all his great abilities - without him Coldplay could never exist and he's the one who keeps them all together. Nevertheless he's not Mr. Coldplay and in all our admiration for him we should not forget that Johnny, Will and Guy also have a great impact on the music that we love. I hope they will never split because they only function as a unity. [thanks Sparks22]

I'm sure this is Guy. Had a listen to the Terefe/Whitecross stuff, and found that the same guy singing on "4 Can Keep a Secret" (an Apparatjik clip on Youtube) is singing on that record as well...i.e Martin. And it's neither Jonas or Mags either. So it must be Guy! [thanks robmatt66]

Wow...amazing track! Cant wait to hear the rest of it! And that is definately Guy singing. The other three are scandinavian, and judging on the accent that must be him. And 110% sure it's not Mags or Jonas. [thanks Ribbledox]

Thx Guy for influencing the band in such a great way! On the south bank show, there is a moment where Guy, Will and J are listenning stuff in the studio and I thought it sounded like Apparatjik's stuff. Plus, I've said it elsewhere but the Exhibition room on Coldplay.com is a copy-cat of the 'Uploader' on Apparatjik.com... [thanks a-chan]

I think its Mags, not Guy. Personally, I don't think it sounds anything like Guy's regular speaking voice or have a Scottish accent, but it definitely has a resemblance to Mags' voice on "Past Perfect Present Tense". [thanks yeahhright]

Travis singer Fran Healy has a laugh with 'copycat' Chris Martin during concert

Fran Healy [pictured] has been poking fun at Coldplay frontman Chris Martin - by claiming he has ripped off a Travis song, according to the Daily Record recently. More discussion on this is at the Coldplay forum now.

Coldplay have twice been accused of plagiarism in their song Viva La Vida and Scots pal Fran couldn't resist having a dig during his latest tour of the US. One of the claims came from American guitarist Joe Satriani, who filed a copyright infringement lawsuit and reached an out-of-court settlement with Martin's band.

The second came from Yusuf Islam. He claimed the song is very similar to his track Foreigner Suite, recorded while he was still known as Cat Stevens. At an American gig, Fran and Travis guitarist Andy Dunlop introduced Battleships - from their fifth album, 2007's The Boy With No Name - as being the only song Martin had actually ripped off.

"Chris is a good friend, so he would see the joke in that," Fran told the audience. "He was on radio and said, 'Travis invented Coldplay'. That's the worst thing anyone could say because ever since then interviewers have said to us, 'so, Travis invented Coldplay?' There's a billion people who then said, 'they suck, they invented Coldplay!'"

The Glaswegian then claimed they are real-life Simon Cowells who put Coldplay together. "No, we did. it was like X Factor. We chose those guys and I've written all those songs. Chris is just a puppet," Fran quipped. "We should phone him some night and ask what is his favourite Travis song - he's bound to say Battleships."

It's just as well the two are friends or Chris might just be a little upset. But it is all just banter. Fran and Andy's tour has a bizarre title - A Chronological Acoustical Journey Through The Travis Back Catalogue: Laugh Out Loud Stories, Scottish Accents, Handsome Scottish Men, Naked Torsos. It began last week in San Francisco. The pair have recorded a live CD of tracks from early shows which they're selling, along with Travis merchandise, at venues.

Coldplay's Oracle discusses the band's Simpsons' characters

Hi, Oracle, I'm 17 and I have an issue I really need help sorting out. There is a chance I could be pregnant, but I really have no clue as to what I should tell my parents. I know they'd be angry if I told them. But they'd be just as angry if I didn't. My boyfriend is very loving and kind, and he promised to stay by my side through everything. So a part of me says that I don't need to tell my parents. But all the same, I don't want to lie to them.

The Oracle replies:

Sweetheart, if there's a "chance" you may be pregnant the first thing you need to do is find out for sure! Go to a family planning clinic or doctor and take a test then if you are; tell your parents. They may be angry, hurt and disappointed but at the end of the day they are your parents and you will need to tell them. The longer you leave it the harder it will be to both hide and then consequently tell them. If you are carrying their grandchild once they have got over their initial reaction to the news, they will hopefully be a great source of support and comfort.

Official photos of Coldplay at Wembley stadium, London, UK (18th & 19th September 2009):

Photos by Penny Howle (courtesy of Coldplay.com)

Coldplay featured in Q Magazine's Artists Of The Century
