Dear Oracle, I was on Youtube, watching Coldplay stuff of course, and I came across a video entitled Bigger Stronger Music Video, it was a video of a man, who went into and elevator that filled with water and then he was in the ocean, he found a beach met one of the hands of the guys from Coldplay, ran off, and then it showed the band eating breakfast or something. Is this real? And where was it filmed? It was a very intriguing movie. From Jonathan

The Oracle replies:

It is indeed legitimate; Mat Whitecross filmed it. As you may know Mat created the Dancing Politicians video for Violet Hill as well as collecting an award for The Road to Guantanamo. Bigger Stronger was filmed in Dorset.

May 29, 2009 - submitted by Rosalind Mata, United Kingdom

Q. Oh Dear Oracle, I am a HUGE Prince fan and I was wondering, I have heard Coldplay themselves mention Prince, are Coldplay fans of Prince and if so, have they seen Prince live in concert?? Peace & B Wild, Roz

The Oracle replies:

Yes they are but haven't seen a concert although they have seen him perform at awards ceremonies. FYI: Coldplay played First Avenue in Minneapolis in their early days. May u live 2 see the dawn.

May 29, 2009 - submitted by Mitelia, United States of America

Q. Dear all-knowing Oracle, I have a dilemma. I am currently talking to this guy (relationship? hopefully) and he seems practically perfect. There's just one little problem: he's sort of "angry". I mean, we'll be having a great time hanging out, but he'll lose his cool if something starts to go wrong. It really freaks me out sometimes. it's like, he'll hit me sometimes, but I know he just needs a release for all of that anger. It's only gotten REALLY out of control once, but he apologized and wrote me an amazing poem. I really like this guy and other than his outbursts, he's perfect. I just want to know if it's worth it. If I should stick with it. I really see a future with him, but everytime he tries to hug me, I flinch likes he's going for my throat. is that wrong? I need help. ThanX, Oracle. Sincerely,

Mitelia. <3

The Oracle replies:

I'm so sorry Mitelia that you do not see how bad this relationship is for you. I would imagine everyone would agree that he is not practically perfect and there's not one little problem, but one very huge one. I disagree that it has only gotten really bad once, the first time he hit you was when that started. It's not worth it and you must leave him. Yes it is wrong to flinch when someone tries to hug you; that is not how it should be. The only future I see is one of more hurt and pain. It is not your problem, it's his, please do not try to fix him. It is he who needs help, not you, other than to gain the strength to leave this abusive relationship as soon as possible.

Coldplay Live Review - Post Gazette Pavilion, Pittsburgh, PA (30th May 2009)

Coldplay will be in Canada but will be performing the second night in Vancouver on that day. Here is Anchorman with the latest nomination details:

The nominations for this year's Much Music Video Awards were announced this evening and we're pleased to report that Viva La Vida has been nominated in the International Video of the Year - Group category. The MMVAs take place live in Toronto, Canada on Sunday, June 21st.

In the international categories, the usual chart-toppers were recognized, with nominees including as we know, Coldplay, but also Britney Spears, Beyonce, Green Day and Lil' Wayne. Fans can also look forward to a live performance by Lady Gaga, with more performers to be announced in the weeks to come. The awards show will air on June 21st, and all three (!) Jonas Brothers will host what is sure to be a glitzy, star-studded production – in a downtown Toronto sort of way.

If you're a MuchMusic superfan, you'll get a chance in June to lineup and receive your wristband pass to the show. It gives you access to the standing-room-only pit directly in front of the stage, from which vantage point there is a significant chance of hand-to- hand contact with a Jonas, or perhaps his airborn sweat towel. Coldplay been hit by a run of stinking bad luck that is blighting the band’s world tour, report The Sun newspaper online today.

Chris was forced to cancel a show in Saratoga Springs, New York, on Wednesday after losing his voice. He has also been in agony after burning his arm on scorching hot electrical equipment backstage. And spells of appalling weather at Coldplay’s Stateside outdoor shows have been putting a real dampener on audience spirits.

They broke the latest bad news on their official website. The statement said: “We’re sorry to report that Coldplay have been forced to postpone due to illness. They have asked us to apologise for the inconvenience but we are currently in the process of re-arranging the show for another date.”

I (The Sun) went on tour with the lads last year and I can tell you Chris goes to extraordinary pains to make sure he is fit for gigs. He always carries a wee bottle of anti-bacterial handwash to give his paws a scrub every time he shakes hands with fans. The boys also take a fitness trainer on tour to keep them in tip-top shape.

And they have a special catering team to make sure they are well fuelled with healthy grub. A t’internet video clip was posted recently showing Chris discussing his doctor’s advice not to perform. Sounds like the quack has finally got through. Which is just as well. The boys have another 35 dates to play on their Viva La Vida tour in America before they land on our shores again in September.

Get some whisky down the old pipes, Chris, you’ll be right as rain in no time.

Source: The Sun

Jones Beach, Wantagh, NY: Live Nation postpone pre-sale, Coldplay remove listing

Dear All-knowing Oracle, I'm a 36 (soon 37) year old woman that still loves to go to concerts, dance, scream, jump, you know, have a good time. I just went to a Coldplay concert and I was enjoying it more than the 20 year old girls. My husband tells me I am getting too old for that. I'm afraid that when I'll be 50 or 60 I will still love concerts more than anything. I think I will never stop enjoying a good rock concert. Also, I am too old for following Coldplay on twitter? go on Coldplaying forums? Most of people there are teenagers or in their twenties, I still feel 20 for certain things. But I look 37 on the outside. I used to be a very pretty girl. But now guys hardly look at me. It is hard sometimes. Is this the midlife crisis everyone talks about? Please answer this one (Serious question).

The Oracle replies:

You're never too old to appreciate music and don't let anyone tell you anything different! I don't think you're going through a mid-life crisis. From the sounds of it you're just having a self-confidence crisis. Why do you need other men to look at you when you have a husband? I hope he's making you feel special, if not, maybe you could gently tell him how you're feeling. Pamper yourself with either a visit to a spa, a new hairstyle, a new outfit or something that will make you remember how pretty you still are!

Chris Martin ignores doctors' advice at recent Coldplay show

We ended up getting Pit seats which was great, I made my way through the crowd with my backpack on, oh what a miracle, everyone hated me! Luckily I knew as soon as the lights would come on for the B stage I could dash sideways through the crowd and that's what I did, I made my way to the front row where my friends were waiting! Even though this was my second time around with Oxfam, getting signatures tonight was tough, probably because of the smaller arena and the weather, but its such a great organization. I only wish Coldplay mentioned it during the show, usually they use the magic balls, but not tonight. Coldplay was excellent, others will post more detailed info on the show, but it was a blast, but honestly I think I prefer the indoor arenas much better. Chris and Jonny both looked at me when I was on there sides it was awesome, Chris came real close to everyone and said thank you, Ive got a picture of it below, he made sure to look us all in the eye it was great. My favorite moment had to been when he took someones hat from Jonnys side and wore it for a few then quickly returned it back. And singer Chris Martin said he was burned coming onstage and was thus in a less-than-charitable mood.

But no one showed their irritation on either end, and the band delivered a sparkling performance in support of their hugely-successful and Grammy-winning album "Viva La Vida." Starting with the instrumental "Life in Technicolor," the quartet marching onstage with sparklers held aloft, they punched directly into "Violet Hill." Their sound was crisp and tight, Martin's voice strong even on the falsetto portions.

But it was on their smash hit "Clocks" that they really got cracking, the crowd going bonkers, Martin singing slightly ahead of the beat and emphasizing the downbeat with his powerful piano-playing.

Two sweet tracks followed, the sweeping "In My Place" and the song that got them on the radio, the ballad "Yellow." Light of the same shade bathed the stage and massive matching balloons were batted aloft.

The cheery "Glass of Water" featured an excellent mix on its bass line - oftentimes bass can be unbearable (you know that annoying booming you get in your sternum?) but this was perfectly done. Drummer Will Champion shone on the dark "Cemeteries of London," with its rollicking groove, and the very Beatle-esque "42," which Martin kicked off on piano.

"Fix You," a fave with the ladies, was tender and heartfelt, while "Strawberry Swing" was set off by its weird, slightly Asian, slightly country (but altogether endearing) guitar melody. The four hit the catwalk for a truncated "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" merged into "Talk," then left Martin to his own devices on an elegant and lovely "The Hardest Part." Their tale of a failed leader "Viva La Vida" got the crowd up and singing again, Champion starring on tympani this time. And "Lost!" was punched up by a jaunty hip-hop tempo that belied its rather downbeat message.

Opener Pete Yorn was almost apologetic, knowing the crowd had been waiting for the headliner, but presented a strong set nonetheless, impressing with his dark, David Bowie-sounding voice and songs like 'For Us" and Don't Wanna Cry."

Hopefully a little rain and pre-show injuries won't keep Coldplay from making a return trip - the excitement they generated won't soon be forgotten.

Source: pennlive.com

Coldplay Live Review - Hershey Stadium, Hershey, PA (24th May 2009)

I circled the stadium and found what a thog=ught to be the perfect spot for them to enter. The venue was beautiful. It turns out though that there was no souncheck today for whatever reason.I talked to a coldplay crew guy and he said be back at around 630. After i met jaysmine who was also "on the hunt". So i came back at the venue at around 610 just to find out that they had already come in. So my expierience started out with some lost hope. So today was my friends birthday and we went to the hotel he was staying at and suprised him by telling him we were going to coldplay. He thought he was in boston the geography wiz. So I return to hersheypark and enter my seats. OHHH MYY GODD the seats were amazing right next to Guy's ramp. Ahh. So 10 minutes in our seats and it begins to pour so the seats were evacuated and we stood under the side sections for a half an hour. Howling Bells eventually got cancelled and Pete Yorn's set was shortened. Pete Yorn was pretty good as i got that bass feeling in my chest. Once i heard magnificent i went crazy. Then Jayz. Then the classical piece. In regular order. Then omg Coldplay. The boys were so into it tonight even though Chris tripped in the begining of LIT and burnt himself. Many puns and lyric additions wee made in relation to the rain. The crowd was small but boy did they sing. Everyone was dancing to the majority of the songs. Same setlist though. The lighting was amazing outside and the air was nice after the rain. The boys were so into it. Jonny especially he was dancing all over the place. AND ALL THE GUYS NOTICED MY SIGN. we were right on the barracade so we had Great access to the catwalk and during Lovers In Japan, Chris touched my sign!!!! Like he grabbed it. And it wasnt on accident cause he was smiling right at me. I almost fainted!!! during lost chris took wills drumstick for viva and banged sooo hard on the drum that it flew in the air also the crowd did an xcellent mexican cell phone wave. Also after LIJ the crowd started doing the vlv chants again awesome!! AMAZING NIGHT!!!! ill post the vids i have and the one with Chris and the sign. I find Coldplay's music videos are unique amongst pop music videos in that there are no scenes depicting gratuitous sex & violence (correct me if I'm wrong on this), unlike most pop music videos. Is this a conscious decision by the band or it just so happens that their videos are made that way? I support them by the way & find the videos are fresh in their approach and appealing in that sense. The use of women, sex & skin to sell the songs & videos are so so tired.

The Oracle replies:

Coldplay songs don't really conjure up such imagery and therefore it wouldn't make much sense to include it in their visuals. The first video for Trouble was certainly very dark and depicted band members being tied up. It's the only video that features anything close to violence. The band do have a say in their videos and discuss ideas with the director. I don't quite agree that they're unique in this, as many bands in their genre don't tend to use those tactics either.

Coldplay Live Review - Nissan Pavillion, Washington DC (21st May 2009)

During Lost, Chris put on the dragon head again and came onto our ramp! I video taped it, but he was dancing RIGHT THERE, and then he dropped the dragon head and it fell at my feet! AWESOME Guy's bass broke during VLV, he was PISSED. LIJ was amazingly incredibly beautiful, I have about 1.5 minutes of video of Chris dancing 2 feet away from me as the butterflies fell, and then he looked right at us! We screamed so loudly during the bows (they all came onto our ramp) that Guy, Chris, and Jonny all looked at us Our buddy Glen gave us some of the butterflies that they'd stepped on during their bows [thanks notlost92]

I was there, front row of pit right in front of Guy. The back of my head will probably end up in somebodies pictures. Concert was amazing. To me better than the 2 Verizon center shows...not sure if it was the addition of a couple new songs or being right up front. Either way awesome. Also getting out of the parking lot in under 15 minutes...uhhh...awesome! [thanks jensgt]

Saw the show tonight. . . LOVED IT. The sound was terrfic, lots of movement. Dear Oracle, I have a rather interesting questions. Wikipedia and the Wiki at Coldplaying.com seem to be under the illusion that 'What If' was released as a single, with Wikipedia also stating 'White Shadows' as another. Evidently, the Wikipedia has no wiki pages leading to the two - which would lead one to think someone has incorrectly edited the Coldplay page... until I realised that the Coldplaying Wiki had supplied cover artwork for What If. It even included a brief description of where it has been released. Has someone played a elaborate prank? It would seem so, as the code on the cover art is off-centered, unlike the others. Thanks, Joshua

The Oracle replies:

Sometimes singles are released in very few territories and that may be physical, digital or radio release only. That's the case with the above singles. What If was released to radio in France, for example, and White Shadows was released to coincide with the Latin American tour of 2007.

May 20, 2009 - submitted by Syrus, United States of America

Q. I'm 15, looking to going into musical composition for college. I've taught myself piano, no formal lessons. I'm not anything special, but I'll get there. However, I think my singing is a bit weak. Any pointers?

The Oracle replies:

You don't really need to have a great voice for musical composition. Have self-belief and go for it, many singers don't have fantastic voices but they have charisma or are distinctive. If you do want to sing, find your own voice and strengthen it. There are many vocal exercises that you could try out to make your voice stronger. If you can't afford vocal coach lessons, there are CDs available.

May 20, 2009 - submitted by Brittany, United States of America

Q. hello, oracle. i'm facing a bit of a wardrobe dilemma, and i'd be delighted if you helped me out. you see, i got the most adorable dress a few weeks ago, and i've received several compliments every time i've worn it since. but just the other day i wore it when i visited my mother and she told me straightaway that it made me look chubby and short (and i really can't afford to look much shorter). now who should i believe? my acquaintances or my own mother who claims to have my best interests at heart? this is a life or death situation, oracle. i was planning on wearing the dress to the coldplay gig in west palm beach tomorrow, but i can't go looking like a fat midget now, can i?

The Oracle replies:

Mothers, you've gotta love them and yes, they're known for their honest opinions but that doesn't mean they're always right! What I would ask is, what do YOU think? If you love the dress, wear it, who cares what anyone else thinks?

Coldplay Live Review - Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, Virginia Beach, VA (20th May 2009)

Coldplay's Viva La Vida tour continued on last night as they played at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Virginia Beach. Our pit was standing room and it was great, we got there early and were front. As far as I know the set list was the same, they played 2 times out in the grassy area. Oh god it was great. I just was looking at the setlist from Bham and it was the same for this show. Now as for the free CD I got mine but had to wait a bit in a line because they ran out and had to go get some more. Chris was a bundle of energy tonight...man I wish I had half of what he has. they changed our show time last minute from 7:30 to 7pm. We got there at 6pm and then the Howling Bells went on the Pete Yorn and then Coldplay went on at 9pm. [thanks kristifuqua]

Drove down from DC to see the show. Amazing as always. Lucked out with great pit location and cool neighbors. The setlist was the same. Chris messed up "Postcards..." and said that Will was mad about his mess up and would take it up with him after the show. At the end of I'm a Believer...Chris asked each of the band members individually if they were "in love ?" Will and Guy answered with a "ohhhhhhh" with Jonny giving the lowest of "ohhhhhh's". Because VA Beach houses a major naval base, fighter jets were flying over every 10 minutes which Chris made reference to it by saying it was their "transport". During their lawn set, Chris had VA Beach do their version of the "mexican cell phone wave". For their last encore, the guys wore their Grammy jackets. [thanks jbarry5503]

More on this concert including reviews, videos, pictures and tweets here onwards.

Pictures: dtwash @ Flickr
