Q. Hi one that knows it all, You mentioned in one of the answers that Coldplay did some sort of colaboration with Nelly Furtado. When i searched the internet the other day it said that the song All Good Things Come to an End is by both Nelly Furtado and Coldplay. Is this true? And if so, did Coldplay just do the instrumental parts because I never hear Chris' voice. Thank you in advance!! :)

The Oracle replies:

It wasn't Coldplay, but it was a collaboration with Chris. Unfortunately the version with his vocals didn't end up on her album but it's knocking around on the internet somewhere. It's a shame because I thought it was a great duet.

Q. Hi Oracle. Some of the early songs appear on two releases (singles, albums, EPs). I was just wondering which of the following are actually new versions and which ones were just re-released:

Bigger Stronger (Safety EP/Blue Room EP);

Such a Rush (Safety EP/Blue Room EP);

No More Keeping My Feet on the Ground (Safety EP/Yellow single);

Don't Panic (Blue Room EP/Parachutes);

High Speed (Blue Room EP/Parachutes).

I think the Brothers & Sisters track from Brother's & Sisters is different from the Trouble single, judging by the intro. I hope this isn't too much work for ya, but I'm sure I'm not the only Coldplay fan to wonder this. Thanks a million.

The 3 tracks that were originally on the Safety E.P are exactly the same and weren't re-recorded for their subsequent releases. There were 2 recordings of Don't Panic and High Speed from sessions with the original producer Chris Allison before Ken Nelson took over; Don't Panic on The Blue Room E.P is said version. Brothers & Sisters on the Trouble single is a different version. In fact, the band had already recorded that track before the Fierce Panda release of it.

Two years after having played in Chile for the first time, Coldplay are attempting to go back to the country to deliver the Viva La Vida tour. However, similar to that of AC/DC and Metallica, they have been denied the use of the national stadium.

This comes just months after more speculation from Latin American sources that successfully predicted the last tour. Chile, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina are likely to be included in any Coldplay itinery, with the possibility of additions such as Perú or Colombia. Producers involved in negotiations were the same which took care of Coldplay's first 3 shows of 2007 - February 14th, 15th and 16th in Chile, when around 15000 people over the three nights saw them live in concert. Coldplay have confirmed tour dates up until March 19th, which is when a Latin America tour will start (possibly in Mexico). Coldplay's return would need a bigger stage - the 2007 concerts were in a 5000 people venue.

Whilst a Coldplay Latin America tour for 2009 has yet to be confirmed, The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers recently revealed back in February that he was planning to reform the Coldplay/Killers supergroup that wowed the crowd at February's War Child gig. He said at the NME Awards: “We had so much doing that gig for War Child that we really want to do it again – but it’ll probably happen in South America.”

Furthermore, Coldplay's Will Champion recently said in an online interview that they were hoping to continue their Viva La Vida tour beyond the European stadium concerts: "We certainly want to try and get there [south America] before the end of the year. But it's still up in the air, to be honest. I really hope we make it."

Coldplay and Duffy lead the Ivor Novello nominations this year with three each. The awards - which honour the best in British song writing - take place in London on May 21.

Both are up for Best Selling British Song award along for Mercy and Viva La Vida. Coldplay will also compete for the Album Award for for Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Coldplay's final nomination comes in the Most Performed Work category, again for Viva La Vida. The Ivor Novello Awards, named after the Cardiff born entertainer Ivor Novello, are awards for songwriting and composing. The "Ivors" are presented annually in London by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), and were first introduced in 1955.

Q. Dear Oracle, Brian Eno produces for U2 and Coldplay respectively. Yet, these two bands are signed by two different record labels (Capitol+Interscope). Where does the producer fall in and what exactly does he do for the bands? Any tips or links for aspiring children who want to be in the music world? most sincerely, Brian

The Oracle replies:

As a record producer, Brian Eno isn't tied in with any specific label so he can work with whomever he likes. Brian's role is to take the helm during recording sessions and guide the band through the process. He has many creative ideas and the band respect him enough that they like to try them out as well as come to the table with their own of course. In the current music business climate I don't like to offer advice, as it is incredibly hard to break into. I just think you should do what you love, work hard, try your best and don't give up. Even if it means you have to do something else alongside it and many people do have to do that. FYI: U2 are on Interscope in the States only and Mercury in the U.K (they were on Island for years). Coldplay's home is Parlophone (EMI) in the U.K.

Q. O wise and knowledgeable Oracle, I have a story to tell. One night I had a dream involving Coldplay's video Viva La Vida. (If you must know ,close friends and family of mine were watching it in a theater.) When the video was over, the curtains closed and I awoke. I was facing my TV and the music video was on it's ending notes. I was shocked and scared to the point of laughing hysterically at 3 in the morning. The next day I told my mother (she's a very worldly person) and she said : "You have heard that song so much you probably recognized it in your sleep. It might have triggered something in your mind and it played the video." I've had dreams like this before not necessarily with Coldplay's songs. I want to know what you think. Sincerly, Jamie.

I have to agree with your Mother somewhat. If I fall asleep with the television on, whatever is happening on screen creeps into my dreams even without me being conscious to see/hear it. Not a good thing to happen if there's some violence going on as I wake up mid crazy aggressive dreams.

It was one of Will's daughter's birthday too but I bet they didn't tell you that? It's not common practice to announce such things. There are 7 children of the band but as they are not IN the band, it's not something we'd be covering.

Q. Coldplay were in NZ last month and I was wondering if they had a chance to tour round the islands and wondered if there was any particular place that they liked the best?

Unfortunately the nature of touring doesn't always allow much time for sight seeing. They didn't get to explore New Zealand at all. It's a shame because it's beautiful isn't it?

...but don't be alarmed! No, Coldplay have not cancelled another US show, the Meadows Music Center is no more. Instead, in a seven-year deal announced earlier this week, the Hartford amphitheater will now be known as the Comcast Theatre.

The venue, owned and operated by Live Nation, can hold up to 25,000 people for its summer concert series, which this year kicks off May 23 with a return visit from Coldplay. The amphitheater's design is unique in that it features a rolling door which can be closed during the winter months allowing year round performances. For many years it served as the venue for the 104 Fest, put on by now defunct rock station WMRQ. Major tours make frequent stops at the Meadows, including Ozzfest, Family Values Tour, Projekt Revolution, Mayhem festival, and other, one-off tours.

Given the new change of venue name, the Coldplay discussion thread and WikiColdplay pages have been amended accordingly.

Robert Gray of Ultimate-Guitar.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist Joe Satriani as part of a series entitled "Hit The Lights."

Topics of discussion included Chickenfoot's formation, the group's debut album, "Soap On A Rope" and "Down the Drain", touring Europe, and the man's impending copyright case against Coldplay. Several excerpts from the interview follow below:

Would it be ok if I briefly touched upon the case you've filed against Coldplay?

What would you like to know?

I'd like to know where the case is presently at.

Our respective lawyers are talking to one other, and trading papers. There's much protocol which needs to be followed. These types of cases tend to drag on, and with very little interesting news for months and months (laughs). None of us are meant to discuss any of the really interesting aspects, so all I can say is that the case is still ongoing.

You aren't allowed to discuss the case until it's concluded?

That's pretty much it (laughs). I can confirm that the case is still going through its paces.

What's your reaction to Coldplay winning the 'Song of the Year' Grammy Award for "Viva la Vida"?

I'm happy for the group, and in a very weird way, I was happy to hear my melody being celebrated. However, I was slightly confused that NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc.), the organisation which handles the Grammy Awards, would even consider nominating a track which they knew was heavily contested. These are the people who voted for Milli Vanilli, though it isn't really their job I suppose.

When Coldplay won that Grammy, weren't you pissed off?

No, not really.

You might have said "That's my Grammy", I thought.

I think Coldplay's Grammy really concerns that particular track. It isn't about the track versus the people. It's really just about a group of musicians trying to work out an equitable arrangement - that's really what it's all about (laughs). We could've been group members going to court over this, but it just so happens we're in different groups. Nonetheless though, it really has nothing to do with the Grammy's, or with the audience. I'm pretty sure that Coldplay's members would also like to keep this case separate from the outside world.

Q. O great Oracle, reply to the questions that follow please :) Coldplay's fame starter was the two songs "Brothers and Sisters" and "Ode to Deodorant" that are on "The Safety EP". Question 1: How come "Brothers and Sisters" is available on iTunes and "Ode to Deodorant" is not? Question 2: Is there any way for Coldplay to get their older music onto US iTunes? Question 3: Do you have any idea where I could download "Ode to Deodorant" from? Please reply! Thank you, Sabrina, THE die hard Coldplay fan :)

Neither of those songs were on the Safety E.P although they were songs that helped them on their path. Ode to Deodorant isn't available anywhere, except the odd copy that turns up on auction sites but as it was never released and only recorded for demo purposes, it shouldn't really be readily available and there's definitely no way it would be on iTunes. I can't suggest anywhere for that rarity. Unreleased songs from way back aren't likely to turn up on any iTunes at this stage to be honest.

Q. I was on Amazon today and I noticed that some guy named Martin Roach and other people have written books about Coldplay. Are these legit? I thought Coldplay didn't have a biography? Please answer to let me know if I should get it!! Thanks Oracle!!!!

There are a few books available and all are unofficial biographies. There is, as yet, no official book on the band.

The Sound Relief benefit concert for the Bushfire Appeal and Queensland flood victims has raised more than $8 million.

The concerts that took place in Sydney and Melbourne on March 14 reunited acts like Midnight Oil, Hunters & Collectors and Split Enz, gave first listens to new music from Jet and Wolfmother and added a few surprises such as Coldplay and John Farnham performing together, and Barry Gibb performing with Olivia Newton-John.

At a press conference held in Melbourne today, it was announced that $7,159,760 will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and $874,416 will go to the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.

In a statement, organizers said “We are thrilled with the amount of money raised by Sound Relief. It is no small exercise to stage two stadium concerts of such magnitude and the willingness of so many to provide their talent, time, labour and equipment free or at cost has allowed such a significant sum to be raised for the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and The Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal. We are proud to have been part of Sound Relief and hope the funds raised will help to heal the communities that have been impacted on by these devastating disasters.”

Yesterday, we announced that the Sony Music initiative for the Bushfire Appeal, the Bushfire Aid album, raised $1.6 million for the Salvation Army.

Music website iLike has joined forces with iPhone developer Tapulous to help promote the recently released themed version of its hit music/rhythm game, Tap Tap Coldplay, reports Pocket Gamer (UK).

"We're giving the 2.9 million Coldplay fans on iLike something to tap about," says iLike president Ali Partovi. This paid version of Tap Tap Revenge features themed graphics and a collection of hits from depressed crooners Coldplay, just as Tapulous has previously done with Nine Inch Nails and Weezer.

But iLike is well known for either predicting the hits with surprising accuracy, or actively causing songs to become hits on iTunes. "Every single album we've promoted in the past year, whether by iconic stars or emerging artists, has debuted in the iTunes top 10 albums, and most of them in the top three," Partovi recently blogged.

It'll be interesting to see if iLike's encouragement of Tap Tap Coldplay has an effect on the game's sales or, indeed, Coldplay's music currently on iTunes. Pretend rebel Katy Perry reported seeing an increase in iTunes sales after featuring one of her songs on the free version of Tap Tap Revenge, so it seems clear that the App Store and iTunes are very closely related.

The first time they played Glastonbury, their then Tour manager took them to the wrong gate to load in their gear with very little time to spare. As they were first on that Sunday morning, they had to run across fields with all their stuff to the New Band's Tent, which was about as far away as it could be. They just made it in time to play.

Q. Hi, Oracle. I have a question that urgently needs to be answered before I get my ass sued! Ok, so I've been writing songs, and the other day I listened to a bunch of Coldplay songs backwards. Surprisingly, some of their songs sound awesome when played backwards. So I was thinking of reproducing the melody of these songs played backwards and adapting them into my own songs. Is doing this against the law? Could I get sued?

Well, you didn't come up with the melody did you? So technically you are still taking someone else's work - backwards or otherwise!

Q. Dear Oracle, I need you to answer this question that is important to me... you know everything and you will know the answer to this. Do you think that I should become a mormon just to be with a girl... I like the girl, she is very into that religion, I'm not... but I'm sure she will be glad if I join, I don't like religion but I like her... what should I do?

The Oracle replies:

Personally I would say don't do it. I don't think you should do anything that extreme just because you like someone. If you can't be together in harmony respecting each other's beliefs, I don't see how it can work out. Many people do convert to be with someone but I think that's a huge sacrifice. As you say you're not into religion I wouldn't consider changing unless the relationship grows, maybe then you could consider exactly what compromises you would both be prepared to make.

I'd recommend the Blackadder box set for your dose of UK comedy but if you haven't already seen it, Flight of the Conchords is genius!

The official Coldplay site have today announced that they been named in the Honorees List for the Celebrity/Fan category at this year's Webby Awards (which are a bit like the Oscars for websites). It's the only band site to have been given this honour which, apparently, "signifies an outstanding caliber of work". Well done to everyone behind the official site!

Meanwhile away from Coldplay sites, a new article has appeared online entitled Joe Satriani Versus Coldplay (The Schlock Vs. The Soft). It goes on to say: "I love the arrogance of Coldplay’s claim. If you say it “lacks originally” using a British accent, then their counter claim actually sounds believeable. It’s only when I switched back to American English that their response gave me pause. I think I prefer the British response better. But then I read that Satriani had actually rooted for Coldplay to win at the Grammy’s. I thought, man, Satriani is going to be laughing all the way to the bank from this. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him; It was nothing less than a PR coup d’état. Now people other than geeky guitar wonks will know who he is! Brilliant, just brillant!

Coldplay and Leona Lewis helped boost the British share of the US music market last year, British Phonographic Industry (BPI) figures show.

One in 10 albums bought in the US were by British artists while Coldplay's Viva La Vida was the second bestselling album in the US, according to the BPI. The figures showed the UK market share rose from 8.5% in 2007. In Canada, British artists accounted for almost 15% of album sales - up from 12.5% in 2007.

Coldplay sold more than five million singles in the US last year, closely followed by 2006 X Factor champion Leona Lewis, who shifted just under 4.75 million tracks, according to the BPI. Lewis's single Bleeding Love was also the most-downloaded single in the US last year.

New acts breaking into the market, including Duffy, Leona Lewis, Estelle and The Ting Tings, helped boost the UK's share. BPI chairman Tony Wadsworth said: "Britain's creative industries consistently excel on the world stage with British music chief amongst them. After the US, we are the biggest exporter of repertoire and, in the US itself, the UK is the second largest source of repertoire after US home grown artists.

The increase in our North American market share reflects the UK's enduring ability to create world class artists."

If you bought tickets for the Coldplay concert on May 29 at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain, which was cancelled last Friday, you can get a full refund at the point of purchase. With the refund, you’ll get a password that will allow you to access special tickets for “great seats,” according to the Live Nation press realease, for the May 24 show in Hershey that were set aside only fans who purchased tickets to the show here.

The reason for the cancellation, according to the press release, was a scheduling conflict. However, if you stop and think about “special tickets” being available at the Hershey show for people who bought tickets here, it’s easy to wonder if the true reason was poor ticket sales. If there had been 5,000 or so tickets sold already, it’s hard to imagine that many “great seats” still being available in Hershey. $35 tickets were added this week, where the previous low was $49.50. Also, a 4 seats @ $30/ea package was added, with many radio stations giving tickets away on air. Prices may drop again - last year Hershey were desperate to fill seats for Counting Crows/Maroon 5 - Tickets that were over $50 ended up being $10.41. Poison tickets were sold for under $10.

Also... do you know if they have considered singing with in a duet with someone that sings in Spanish? and who would that be? Last... will Coldplay come to Mexico this year? Enjoy your bizarreness.

The Pectoralz name came from the pectoral chest muscle and is a joke name for a boy band they created. It was never a name consideration for the 'real' band, it was all meant to be in jest. Technically Chris has duetted with someone that sings in Spanish; Nelly Furtado! Chris wouldn't sing in Spanish himself though as he isn't fluent. Until we confirm anything on this website I cannot comment on show rumours, sorry! By the way folks, I'm taking an Easter break and will be back here Tuesday 14th April.

If you like her and you don't think or know if she feels the same, there really is only one song for it; Shiver. If you already know she loves you back, you practically said the song yourself in your question: A Message from the X&Y album. You can read the lyrics in our Discography but I think it certainly is a message of love and I think she'd know what you're trying to say.

What I thought I'd do rather than point you to some recipes, is draw your attention to a menu at my favourite Vegetarian restaurant; Greens. If that doesn't get your taste buds going, I don't know what will! Hopefully it will show you that vegetarian food isn't all about tofu and vegetables. It can be just as tasty and creative as any other meal.

Chris Martin of Coldplay heard Naturally 7 on UK radio recently and was so impressed by their harmonies and their vocal replication of instrumental sounds, he flew home from Germany to catch their London show, reports A Capella News. He took producer Brian Eno and pal Natalie Imbruglia with him.

"We'd heard he was coming, but you never know," Naturally 7 singer Rod Eldridge says. "Sure enough he's hanging over this upper balcony with Natalie and Brian. It was pretty surprising."

Martin came backstage with his posse to invite Naturally 7 to record with Coldplay; he's a man of action -- the next day they joined the chart-topping band, Eno and Imbruglia in a London studio. "We just jammed and sang," Eldridge says. "Chris wanted us to teach him vocal sounds, he's working on something. He's not there yet but I'm sure he'll come around. There's nothing concrete but we're planning on doing some things together."

The event was a family affair -- Martin bringing children Moses and Apple. "We were improvising, making music, then we went off to have tea and biscuits, so it turned into a real English thing," Eldridge says.

"Natalie and I were talking vocal techniques, she was giving me tips on how to get around nodules on vocal cords. It was a great day. It's so nice to know someone like Chris Martin appreciates what we do. He's taking time out of his interviews to mention us. We're definitely honoured."

Indeed, Martin heaped praise on the band during his recent Herald Sun interview. "I loved taking Brian, he was knocked out," Martin says. "His favourite thing is singing. And that's what they do. They're incredible."

Built on the all-new No.1 App Store hit Tap Tap Revenge 2, this Coldplay Edition of Tap Tap Revenge includes 10 of Coldplay's greatest hits, including Viva la Vida, Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix), Lost, Yellow and Life in Technicolor ii.

‘Iron Man’ star Robert Downey Jr. hopes that Coldplay’s Chris Martin will perform the soundtrack of his new Sherlock Holmes film. Downey Jr., 44, believes that Martin, 32, will be the right person for the musical score, as the rocker is a huge fan of the super sleuth.

The actor also revealed that the singer has been offering him tips about playing Holmes on the big screen, and that he hopes Martin will be a part of Guy Ritchie's much-anticipated movie. “We are hoping Chris Martin of Coldplay will contribute to our score,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying. “He’s a huge Sherlock Holmes fan. He told me you need to be really skinny, which is always the last thing you want to hear,” he added.

Robert Downey Jr has finished filming scenes as the fictional detective in a new big-screen adaptation by director Guy Ritchie. Downey Jnr. slimmed down considerably for the role - and credits good friend Chris Martin for shaping his portrayal of the iconic supersleuth. He says, "He's a huge Sherlock Holmes fan. He said to me before we began 'You've got to be gaunt. You've got to be as skinny as you possibly can to play Holmes.' So every time I'm reaching for a muffin I just think about Chris Martin and skip the snack. That's been tough."

Tap Tap Revenge: Coldplay Edition is the latest release in the wildly popular Tap Tap Revenge series, which allow you to tap along to songs on your iPhone/iPod Touch. Click here to check it out.

This special edition features ten full Coldplay songs to play along to, with graphics and effects inspired by the band's videos. It also includes a Coldplay news feed (taken from the official website) and Facebook Connect, so that you can flaunt your scores to the world.

Los Angeles — Coldplay has denied in federal court that it copied parts of Joe Satriani's music for its hit song, "Viva La Vida."

In a response filed in Los Angeles on Monday, attorneys for Coldplay's band members also argued that any similarities between "Viva La Vida" and Satriani's "If I Could Fly" weren't enough to warrant damages. Satriani's song "lacks originality," Coldplay's response claims, and shouldn't receive copyright protection.

Satriani sued Coldplay in December, claiming the British band used "substantial, original portions" of Satriani's "If I Could Fly," which was released in 2004. Satriani's lawyer, Howard E. King, said Coldplay's response was typical for copyright infringement cases and he reiterated that he thought the matter could have been resolved without a lawsuit.

With a little over two years since their last visit to South America, Chilean media sources, namely POTQ.cl today are at it again - predicting that Coldplay will return to play there in November, around the same time as the Killers.

Whilst a Coldplay Latin America tour for 2009 has yet to be confirmed, The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers recently revealed back in February that he was planning to reform the Coldplay/Killers supergroup that wowed the crowd at February's War Child gig. He said at the NME Awards: “We had so much doing that gig for War Child that we really want to do it again – but it’ll probably happen in South America.”

Furthermore, Coldplay's Will Champion recently said in an online interview that they were hoping to continue their Viva La Vida tour beyond the European stadium concerts: "We certainly want to try and get there [south America] before the end of the year. But it's still up in the air, to be honest. I really hope we make it."

This comes just months after more speculation from Latin American sources that successfully predicted the last tour. Chile, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina are likely to be included in any Coldplay itinery, with the possibility of additions such as Perú or Colombia. Producers involved in negotiations were the same which took care of Coldplay's first 3 shows of 2007 - February 14th, 15th and 16th in Chile, when around 15000 people over the three nights saw them live in concert. Coldplay have confirmed tour dates up until March 19th, which is when a Latin America tour will start (possibly in Mexico). Coldplay's return would need a bigger stage - the 2007 concerts were in a 5000 people venue.

The Police was the top-earning touring act for the Performing Rights Society (PRS) for Music last year, beating Iron Maiden and Coldplay, reports Times Online.

The reunion of the group led by Sting to mark their 30th anniversary, contributed to £139.6m of overseas royalties collected on behalf of songwriters and composers last year by the PRS, up from £121.2m in 2007. The most lucrative market was America, where PRS income was £21.7m, followed by Germany and France. It has collecting arrangements with societies around the world. “Britain is the No 1 home of musical talent in the globe,” said Steve Porter, the chief executive of PRS for Music.

The collecting agency has still to resolve a dispute with YouTube, which took down British music videos from its site after failing to put in place a new fees structure. The PRS, which has been criticised for demanding broadcast fees from hairdressers and mechanics, wants a per-stream charge instead of a flat fee to recognise soaring online video watching.

Details are a bit sparse for now, but we’ve now heard whispers from multiple sources that Tapulous plans to release a version of their popular iPhone music game, Tap Tap Revenge, themed around Coldplay early next week.

This isn’t the first time the company has partnered with a band for premium releases; December of 2008 saw the Weezer-branded “Christmas with Weezer” edition, and an NIN edition was released last September.

The application has been submitted to the app store, and will likely see a release on Monday night or Tuesday morning. No whispers of pricing just yet. Both the Weezer and Nine Inch Nails releases went for $4.99 at the time of their release, though the Weezer edition has since dropped to $1.99 (presumably due to its Christmas theme being a bit less relevant now). As such, it is quite likely the Coldplay edition will launch for around the $4.99 price.

As for content, we’re told that it’ll be made primarily of recent popular content, though we’re also told that it will feature at least one remix from outside of their standard discography.

The band are performing at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, PA on Sunday, May 24th, and the promoters are making excellent seats available to that show for fans who purchased tickets to the Scranton date. Upon refund at point of purchase, fans who purchased Scranton tickets will receive a password to purchase these specially-allocated tickets.
