Show was great. When they played The Scientist and Death Will Never Conquer, they were about 20 feet away from me!!!! The show was AWESOME!!! I still have WHOOAAA OOOhhh oohhhh ohhhh in my head. People were singing it after the show was over walking out. When they played The Scientist and Death Will Never Conquer, they were about 20 feet away from me!!!! [thanks TwistedLogic88]

The show WAS amazing! I wish it was a bit longer, but I'm not complaining. The only thing that would have made it better for me was if they played Warning Sign, and Amsterdam. But man it was great. First time seeing them live and it has made me love them even more; they are great guys. Lover In Japan was definitely the high point for me, I love that song. SO GOOD. I can't wait to get in my car tomorrow and blast them when headin' to work. I will be listening to them for a week straight now. You're lucky that you were on the side they played at when they came into the audience, I was in the exact same position as them but on the opposite side of the arena that they were on. FANTASTIC show. My DAMN DAMN camera erased 100 pics or so including the ones on the right catwalk where I was right there in the front row....BAH! Nevertheless, a fabulous show and they all got Orlando Magic jerseys that they then threw out to the crowd. [thanks pjoalfa]

This was my first Coldplay concert and it definitely lived up to the hype. Absolutely amazing! My girlfriend and I got to touch Chris' sweaty arm, haha. So cool. The setlist was the same as I've been seeing listed. We didn't bring a camera cause it said not to right on the ticket and we thought it'd be confiscated, but we seemed to be the only people without one! Too bad because we would've had some great close-up shots. I hope someone else posts some good ones. But again, incredible show. I loved Chris' energy, especially on "In My Place" and Viva La Vida." It was refreshing to see that he didn't care about technical perfection, but about entertaining and energizing the crowd the whole time, which in turn made the show perfect. And the glowing butterflies were very cool. We got so distracted looking at them plague the crowd that when we looked at the stage again, Chris was right next to us, haha. OK, that's about it. It was an awesome show and got to meet the legendary Angie and Mich, all the way from Liverpool wrapped in a British flag...what a great time! And sat with bta5857 with her daughter and jbarry (the originator of the Philly 2006 sign gang) It was a sign gang reunion! Mel and Lor, we didn't get to meet as they were at the Oxfam booth...maybe next show! We were in the sixth row, well, actually the fourth cause there were only like three seats in the first row and five or six in the second row on the ends. So close... was really totally unreal! Chris kept reading all of our signs ...we had alot of different funny stuff. We had him laughing to himself each time. That was worth making all of them. Tons and tons of butterflies covered everything... that was pretty dramatic! The encore started and out came the band in Orlando Magic jerseys ... were really nice blue with long purple sleeves with their personal name on back...Orlando loves Coldplay and Coldplay must love Orlando... second time they took off their shirts and threw them to the crowd. Chris threw his to a young boy who got moved from somewhere up high to the first row and made some nice thumbs up gestures to him during the show. Then at the end he went directly to the boy to give him his shirt and some stupid guy jumped in front and snatched the shirt and Chris yelled at the guy "Ah, c'mon!" and Chris had a disappointed look as he really wanted the kid to have it. Orlando show rocks once again! [thanks airieslady]

Q. Is it a coincidence that the three best bands ever all were(are) signed to Capitol Records? Pink Floyd -Beatles -Coldplay…or did Coldplay hold out for Capitol due to the fact that Floyd and the moptops were on it?

Well, all being British bands we prefer to say they are signed to EMI (which goes through Capitol in the States). Bands can’t hold out for labels, as that’s not their position in the process. That said Coldplay always wanted to sign to Parlophone (part of EMI) more due to the fact that Radiohead were signed there but some part down to the Beatles. Although fans of Pink Floyd they weren’t as high up on the list.

It’s a remix of Viva la Vida by Thin White Duke (aka Stuart Price). There are no current plans to release it commercially though.The bracelets are to raise money specifically for the children of the Dafur crisis and as you say they can be bought at the shows and also here.

Q. Dear O, I’m really sad. Few years ago my mum gave her wedding dress to a friend of hers from the village to wear for her wedding. Not borrow, but gave. She ended up not wearing because it was “too pretty”. I’m still upset that she gave her wedding dress to someone else while she has 3 daughters! Is it wrong to feel upset? I just thought a tradition could be made from it, you know.

Maybe it still can. I totally understand how upsetting this is for you and your sisters but perhaps your Mum thought rather than give it to one daughter over another it would be fairer to give it to a friend. Or maybe she didn’t think you’d want it? Or maybe she didn’t think the 3rd sister to get married, if that’s the path they choose, would want to? Whatever her reasons it was her dress to give but that doesn’t mean to say that you couldn’t approach her friend and ask if it’s possible for you to wear it if that’s what you wish. Bearing in mind she may refuse but it’s worth a try. If you feel strongly about it perhaps talk to your Mother and then you’ll have some closure. Who knows, your Mum may ask for it back given that it wasn’t worn for the intention behind the gift…

This is a popular question but no, they’re not related. If you listen to all of Coldplay’s tracks you will often see running and recurring themes: spider webs, bubbles and ladders to the sun to name a few.

Get yourself a pair of headphones (and an adaptor for the stereo if needed) and listen to it that way but don’t blast it too loud, as you’ll cause permanent damage! Part of the child/parent relationship is playing music loud until you’re told to turn it down just as part of a parent/child relationship is constantly asking their offspring to reduce volumes. It’s part of the circle of life my friend.

The MTV Europe Music Awards returns to the UK with R&B superstar Beyonce and Welsh soul singer Duffy among the star performers. Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney will be named the "Ultimate Legend" at the star-studded ceremony taking place in his home city, Liverpool tonight (6th November 2008).

Britney Spears, Coldplay and Duffy lead the nominations for the annual awards, which are presented in a different European country each year. All three acts are nominated for album of the year, alongside Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis. Spears, Lewis, Coldplay, Rihanna and Amy Winehouse are up for act of the year, while Duffy is competing for best new act against One Republic, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and the Jonas Brothers. Castles is a bootleg CD. A bootleg is an unofficial release and is therefore not endorsed by the band or their label. In fact, they’re illegal! They frequently start with a fan gathering recordings or live versions of tracks and making a compilation and that’s what happened here. The problem with Castles is it’s often mistaken for an official release. When it first appeared it had a different cover to the one they’ve got now, they’ve made it look very professional and used the official font (at the time). As it’s being sold it’s a total copyright infringement.

So I have difficulties understanding the meaning of the song, and that makes it hard to shoot a video with the right theme. Honestly, don’t worry about the themes of the song; just make the video you want to. There are a few that have come in that don’t relate to the song at all and they’re great so it’s not at all important.

Q. Dear Oracle: I don’t want bother you, but I must comment that I’m so tired of the relationship that I have with my mom. She does not understand there are different people in the whole world and in our house, and is impossible that all of us meet her understandable expectations. In fact, my brothers and I are ported better than our friends and other guys that I know of our age. But she don’t want let us talk and be listened. I can’t maintain my relationship with her under control, all the time, it seems to me that I am going to get crazy (more than it already). Family relationships can sometimes be very difficult but where we can choose our friends we cannot choose our relatives. So, whilst you are still living at home and are of a certain age it’s wise to hold your tongue and accept that a lot of the time, parents are right even if we disagree. It doesn’t mean you have to agree with her but until you have your own place it will mean she will voice her opinions in her own home and so it’s best to try not to get drawn into any arguments as hard as that will be. Not all mothers are sent to test us but the ones that may seem like they are, are probably trying their best to guide you. Maybe she thinks that when you’re a parent you”ll realize that she was right. And you know what? She might even be right about THAT!

Q. Dear Oracle, There are two things I really wondered about: first thing is that Chris sometimes speaks German (when he told about the contact with Kraftwerk (”Ich bin ein Coldplayer”) and he counted the rhythm before White Shadows at Glastonbury 2005 (”zwei, drei, vier”). So is there any relationship between Chris and Germany? Second thing you know about (because you know everything) is what Coldplay thinks about the song “Brothers & Sisters”. It has been recorded AND released thrice, so i wondered if, to Coldplay’S mind, it might be the best song ever written.

Actually no there isn’t. The Kraftwerk reference makes sense because the band are obviously German but the counting at Glastonbury must have been a spontaneous outburst. Maybe he’d just listened to Vertigo by U2 and decided to opt for his own version of counting in. Brothers & Sisters hasn’t been released three times. It has been re-issued and that is different. It was released by a small independent label so has nothing to do with the band so again the answer is no, they don’t think it’s the best song ever written.

Q. Why did you have to yell ‘Barack Obama’ at the end of your song on SNL? You lost a lot of fans (including me) with that statement. People listen to music to escape from all of the junk and the politics. I just didn’t see the point after all you are from the UK what does it matter?

You are of course entitled to your opinion, as are we, that is the nation, the band and me. I’d normally agree with your sentiment but in this case you have to remember that although we may be British and cannot vote in your election, whom you vote in does have an effect on us, on the entire human race in fact. And if you don’t agree with that, just look how many loved ones are posted in Iraq, which essentially came from a president we didn’t vote for either. All I’m saying is that this election was important to people the world over. Whatever your political stance, this was an historic outcome and we will now see what effect this decision has on the world too.

The show was fantastic! Words can not express how beautiful The Scientist and Lovers In Japan are. The energy in our area was awesome and the band poured forth an exhilarating vibe that went beyond words. Will broke the drum stick he was pounding the bell with during VLV and I had a chuckle. The acoustics in Phillips aren't top notch but I didnt care. I could go on and on and probably will in the days to come. PS Will did show up in a spot light during The Hardest Part and sang backing vocals and Post cards From far away was performed after it. [thanks mountainloafers]

First of all, it was the best concert i have ever been to. there were not any huge surprises but i words cants express what this concert was like. Coldplay playing in Detroit Rock City!! I came within 20 yards or less when Death will never conquer and The scientist. The crowd was nuts. I was nuts. thats all i have to say. thank you COLDPLAY [thanks ColdplayCold]

Mel says Chris comes out and says Happy Birthday, it's Jonny's baby's 1st birthday. (Awwwwwww Mel has same birthday as Jonny's baby) and then he sees sign Mel has that says it's her birthday and he says "And Happy Birthday to you too!" They held up "Roadies do it in the dark" sign and some girl that works for band sees them and comes and gets them and takes them back stage and they take their picture posing with sign and all the roadies! I just got back from the CP concert in Detroit and my ears are still ringing I loved, loved, loved it! I knew exactly what was going to happen (butterflies during Lovers, going into the nosebleed section, etc.), but I was thrilled beyond words! It was awesome! I especially loved how Chris dedicated "The Hardest Part" to Jennifer Hudson. Seriously, that was thoughtful. [thanks alsisla]

Horrible experience.....i got sat next to some whiny bitch that kept crying throughout the show and calling her what i gathered was ex-bf....telling him how much she loved him...and honestly she didnt stop crying throughout the show. Coldplay's music video in support of their new single 'Lovers in Japan' has officially been released worldwide via the Parlophone YouTube channel at midnight on Wednesday 4th November (GMT, EST-5). You can watch the video

The eagerly-awaited fourth video of the 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' era is now officially released on the internet, following the three previous single videos (Violet Hill, Viva la Vida and Lost!), and not only that, the song will be aired on radio stations worldwide from November 4th. The LiJ video, which was leaked on YouTube several times within hours of its release, was directed by Mat Whitecross (who also directed the video to Lost!) and was shot in London, and it features the 'Osaka Sun Mix' track which itself is due for release on the forthcoming Prospekt's March EP from November 19th.

Ooh I think you missed a bit out... the seats all the way at the top... are referred to nosebleed seats because It's common for high altitudes to cause nosebleeds and some of those seats are extremely high.

We were talking about music and the Teenage Cancer Trust and how to keep it together. He’s also responsible for the best muscial moment in history, in my opinion. The comeback scream in Won’t Get Fooled Again. That’s the thing that makes me feel alive. Your thighs explode.”

InMotion’s airport-based Media Hotspot kiosks in US will feature key EMI Music albums and singles for sampling and purchase, report Reuters.

New York, NY.– Under an agreement between EMI Music and InMotion Entertainment, music fans can now buy and download music directly to portable devices at major US airports. InMotion, the US’s largest airport-based electronics and entertainment retailer, will now make a selection of EMI Music’s key current and catalog albums and singles available for consumers to sample, purchase and download directly from its in-store PlayPoint Media Hotspot kiosks. Fans will be able to use PlayPoint’s touch screen stations to preview and buy full albums and tracks and transfer them directly to a range of portable music devices, including iPods, to enjoy on their flights.

Beginning this month, 45 InMotion retailers located at more than 20 major US airports, including New York’s JFK, Los Angeles International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and those in Miami, Atlanta Chicago, Dallas and more will feature current titles from artists ranging from Coldplay and Katy Perry to Al Green and Lady Antebellum. A rotation of new and catalogue titles will be featured on an ongoing basis.

InMotion will make albums available for $11.99. Downloads will be available as DRM-free MP3s in high quality audio (256 kilobits per second).

“This is a great new opportunity for us to help connect the artists with fans,” said Eden Goldberg, VP of Marketing and Business Development at InMotion Entertainment. “By offering a ‘fueling station’ for their portable devices, consumers now have an easy way to discover and buy new music they can enjoy on their travels.”

I had an amazing seat near Guy's ramp. Totally unexpected since I was volunteering for Oxfam and was told that we get the seats that no one bothered to purchase..or something like that. I almost cried when I saw how close to the stage I was. Everything about the show was amazing...from Chris reading the Philadelphia Inquirer on stage to some amazing drumming courtesy of Will Champion. Chris was careful not to mention Obama, claiming that the band was non-partisan, but he made up for it by saying Democrats are intelligent. I'm not completely certain but I think I shared a moment with Guy during In My Place . My section had tons of energy, which made the experience even better. The crowd went crazy for Viva La Vida, and it was indeed a lovely performance. The butterflies during LiJ were incredible! Yellow was a great way to end the show and I couldn't have asked for more! Oh, A BIG SHOUT OUT to the sign gang, I saw you guys with your signs in the air....good job. [thanks dotty biscotti]

The show was FANTASTIC. They guys all had awesome energy - I wish I'd been up near them when they went to C stage, because I would have loved to catch Guy's smile on film. They all really seemed to enjoy themselves up in the crowd tonight and were more playful and chatty than usual. I took a ton of picures, mostly of Jonny, but I got a few good (or at least they looked good) shots of Jonny and Chris dancing together. Can't post them until I get back to my college, which means not until Monday. The signs were good, but not great. There seemed to be a little bit of confusion about when to hold them up; a lot of people did it at the end of the second encore rather than beginning of Yellow, which is what I thought the plan was. Of course, quite a fair few of the people right around me were drunk, which might explain some of the misunderstandings. Case in point: during the blackout when they play the remix, I had two guys offer to hoist me on their shoulders. Definitely drunk. Even so, I'm sure the guys saw the signs, although they didn't mention them or bring them onstage or anything. Most people held them up, just not at the right time [thanks Fadelight]

All right in the midst of all this I think im just going to blurt it out cause I can hold on to it any longer. When I went to the concer at the izod center on oct 27 I met bob from oxfam I asked him why are there no ny shows. He said shh top secret but coldplays coming back to america for a third leg of the tour with multiple nights at madison square garden. He said it was positive and it was after the japan shows in february [thanks professa95]

He read a news paper and said Philly is the best city on earth. And said a word about Pennsylvania being a important state in elections. And setlist was regular but a lot of energy through out the concert and a lot of Chris jokes. [thanks pallavi]

NEW YORK (Fortune) -- EMI, one of the world's largest record companies, is considering turning over its distribution, sales and marketing operations in the United States to a rival in an attempt to cut its extensive losses, music industry sources said Friday.

Three industry sources told Fortune that the storied British company - whose catalog includes the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Coldplay - is talking to Warner Music (WMG), SonyBMG (SME) and Universal Music Group about assuming these functions in the U.S. Those companies declined to comment.

EMI also declined to comment on its reported talks with rivals about outsourcing. However, a source familiar with the industry said all EMI wanted to do in the United States was outsource its CD distribution to retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Sources close to the talks say EMI could save as much as $300 million a year if it completely outsourced its American marketing and distribution operation.

The sources said EMI is also considering licensing its jazz and classical division, whose labels include Blue Note and Angel. That would mean another company would not only manufacture and sell EMI records by jazz greats like Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and opera legends like Maria Callas. It would also take over the release schedule and packaging of these albums.

EMI spokeswoman Jeanne Meyer strongly denied that the company is in talks to license jazz and classical: "EMI has no plans at this time to license its jazz and classical businesses."

EMI was purchased in August 2007 for $6.4 billion by Guy Hands' Terra Firma, a British private equity firm. Since then, it has gone through layoffs and management turnover as the new owners struggle with upheaval in the music industry.

The news of EMI's talks comes on the heels of the disclosure of hefty financial losses in a report released on Oct. 24 by Maltby Capital, the entity through which Terra Firma controls the music company. The report said EMI suffered a loss of 258 million pounds ($415 million) in its fiscal year ending in March 2008.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, EMI's year-to-date market share of current U.S. album sales is 8.2% compared to 9.1% during the same time period last year. In September, EMI turned over the distribution and marketing of its physical and digital releases in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea and Thailand to Warner Music.

EMI has handled the marketing and distribution of Warner compact discs in India, the Middle East and North Africa since 2005.

George Van Horn, a senior analyst at IBISWorld, said the idea that EMI might outsource its sales and marketing in this country wasn't as surprising as it might sound. "It's fairly drastic from a historical standpoint," he says. "Looking out at the future, it probably isn't that drastic. That's an indication of how severe the cutbacks have to be [at EMI] to get into the position of being profitable on the business activities you do keep."

That video was made 16 years after Barbara (R.I.P) and Spencer appeared on the Attitudes show. There's not much information about the pair, which is a shame, but you can see a variation of the routine here.

TWO WORDS: F**KING. AWESOME. Actually, 4 words: f**king awesome BATS and pumpkins!

a) My seats were GREAT! I was on the aisle near the front of section 6 on the floor... I wasn't sure if I'd be able to see, but it was fantastic! The Talk/GPASUYF/Hardest Part set was really close to me

b) The Halloween stuff was awesome! The roadies wore skeleton shirts, they tried to pull of some Halloween jokes (but kind of failed ), the magic balls were pumpkins, Chris kept mentioning Halloween... but the best part was definitely the bat/pumpkin confetti. When I first realized that they were dropping bats instead of butterflies, I freaked out!

c) I think they performed really well, better than in August. It seemed short (Yellow was the only encore... what?!), but incredibly high energy. Everyone seemed to enjoy the fact that it was Halloween. There was a lot more talking from Chris than there was in August.

d) I wonder if they told Chris to calm down with the Obama stuff, cause he only mentioned the election once. I think he was wearing his SNL armband though (can anyone confirm?) [thanks notlost92]

The bat and pumpkin confetti was amazing. They had the usual sort of paper confetti and then they also had metallic pumpkins and bats! I brought some home so I'll try to snap a picture unless someone else has a good photo of them from the venue. They also turned the magic balls into halloween pumpkins and at one point Jack Skellington's head complete with changing facial expressions. Lots of people dressed up, including quite a few of the roadies. Crowd was GREAT. All the boys were in fine form. Chris took off his jacket fairly early as did Jonny; Guy didn't take anything off but he was only wearing red shirt w/ a vest to begin with so he wouldn't have had much to take off! Will seemed to be really into the drumming thing tonight, particularly during VLV. I guess the most amazing thing of the entire concert, at least to my eyes, was getting to see them interact. When they'd play near each other they'd talk and chuckle. Their smiles are so priceless! You can really tell they're friends, particularly Chris and Jonny. In addition to the square dancing there were some times when they'd do a sort of "dueling guitars" thing, playing really close to each other. [thanks Fadelight]

Coldplay's new video for Lovers In Japan is now available on iTunes, and will be offered as a free download for the next week.

The eagerly-awaited fourth video of the 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' era is finally released on the internet, following the three previous single videos (Violet Hill, Viva la Vida and Lost!), and not only that, the song will be aired on radio stations worldwide from November 4th.

The LiJ video, which was leaked on YouTube several times within hours of its release, was directed by Mat Whitecross (who also directed the video to Lost!) and was shot in London, and it features the 'Osaka Sun Mix' track which itself is due for release on the forthcoming Prospekt's March EP from November 19th.
