Ok as to the setlist, it was exactly the same as yesterday with one exception. In between the Escapist and Green Eyes. They played a NEW SONG! It was short (about one minute and a half) and I think that Chris said that the song was not finished yet. I couldn't really hear what Chris was saying about this song because the crowd in my section was going absolutely wild. Perhaps someone who was there and could hear better could explain. This new song sounded amazing, it reminded me of Death Will Never Conquer. I hope someone got it on video.

Then something very strange happened. After this new song the boys started playing Green Eyes. All of a sudden Guy left the stage!!!! I don't know what happened. About a minute into the song, Chris kept saying "Guy please come back and finish the song with us"--- but Guy never came back. Chris, Johnny and Will finished the song without Guy. At the end of the song Chris said "we dedicate this song to our bassist Guy-- wherever he is" Then the show ended. So again not sure what happened there.

It was high fives all around for Coldplay's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" on the Canadian album charts.

The Brit-rock quartet's fourth disc stayed at No. 1 for a fifth consecutive week, selling 15,000 copies, according to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. It has now racked up a grand total of 176,000 in sales since its release last month. Meanwhile In the US charts, Coldplay's new album slips from second to fourth with 90,000 sales. Nas' latest album tops this week's Billboard 200, dethroning Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III," according to Nielsen SoundScan on Wednesday.

Details of the "premier line-up" of 4Music, a reincarnation of music TV channel The Hits, have been outlined. Shows will include performances from Coldplay, Kylie Minogue, Sugababes and The Verve and extensive live V Festival coverage.

Channel 4 and Bauer Media, which are behind the venture, said 4Music signified the rebirth of music TV. 4Music will be launched over the V Festival weekend and be available on Sky 360, Virgin 330 and Freeview 18.

Alexa Chung, Nick Grimshaw, Miquita Oliver, Lauren Laverne and Steve Jones among others will be hosting shows across the channel. 4Music will kick off with exclusive live coverage of the V Festival on August 16 and 17, with headline sets from The Verve and Muse.

Coldplay swings for the balconies, and even plays in them

On its 2006 tour, Coldplay figured out how to supersize its shows. Once a fluff-up-the-pillow band of balladeers, built on Chris Martin’s falsetto voice and upright piano, the British quartet muscled up and swung for the rafters, in keeping with its status as a multimillion-selling franchise capable of filling sports arenas around the globe.

With its fourth and latest album, the cumbersomely titled “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends,” Coldplay tackles big subjects (death, the afterlife) with an equally big sound, brimming with nuances sculpted by producer Brian Eno.

It’s the type of album designed to fill stadiums, and Coldplay swept into the United Center on Tuesday for the first of two concerts with a certain been-there, done-that confidence, if not swagger. “Swagger” and “Coldplay” are words that rarely belong in the same sentence, because Martin and his bandmates have always carried themselves with a scruffy, almost sheepish charm. Yet with “In My Place,” Martin was winding up his left arm and thrusting it skyward like he was throwing uppercuts at the heavens each time the chorus kicked in. With the lights up and the whole house singing along, it was the kind of crowd-pleasing gesture that Martin now delights in.

As Israeli city Tel Aviv gears up to its 100th anniversary in 2009, Jewtastic can reveal that local government bosses have set their sights on Duran Duran to perform a headlining concert as well as applying for permission to use the group’s instrumental song Tel Aviv as a theme for the city.

According to a Tel Aviv Municipality city insider, Duran Duran have emerged as the top act for a celebrate Tel Aviv concert being planned in 2009.

Other acts who are said to be on the shortlist of headlining artists for the concert include: Coldplay, Counting Crowes, Maroon 5 and Madonna.

The world's biggest band Coldplay have been snubbed in the Mercury Music Awards. Instead, the nomination headlines go to Estelle, Adele and Radiohead.

They are all up for the gong, which celebrates British and Irish music. "This turns out to be a remarkably rich year for British music," says Simon Frith, Chair of Judges. "What is most striking is the continued resilience and flexibility of the album as a way of organising music-making. It remains an unrivalled source of musical invention and imagination, a way of linking songs, exploring themes and developing sounds that is endlessly thrilling, surprising and worth celebration.”

The Nationwide Mercury Prize celebrates the year in music. The shortlist, chosen from an entry of over 240 albums by UK artists, was announced by Lauren Lauren at Covent Garden’s The Hospital Club, the club for the creative industries. The winner of this year’s Nationwide Mercury Prize will be announced live on BBC Two on Tuesday 9 September 2008 as part of the BBC’s coverage of the Awards Show.

A second programme on BBC Two will be broadcast on Friday 12 September. The programmes will be presented by Lauren Laverne, with the Awards Show itself hosted by Jools Holland.

The 12 nominees for this year's Mercury Prize are to be announced at a London ceremony later.

Last year, the Klaxons won the award for their album Myths of the Near Future. Contenders for the 2008 shortlist include big-sellers such as Radiohead, Coldplay, Robert Plant and Duffy.

Radiohead gained acclaim last year for releasing their album Rainbows online, while Coldplay topped the UK and US charts with their recent release, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. Meanwhile, Duffy became the first artist to sell a million copies of an album this year, with her debut Rockferry.

The winner of the prize will be announced on September 9.

Ticketmaster.ie have released new seating plans for Dublin's new O2 Arena in Ireland, formerley the Point Theatre ('The Point') that re-opens this December. Assuming the venue will be open on time, Coldplay are likely to be the first band to play in the new arena - and play two nights there.

Events in 'The O2' are controlled by Live Nation, the organisation arranging the shows for Coldplay's current US tour. The Point was closed in the summer of 2007 to be rebuilt and refurbished, to be renamed 'The O2' upon its reopening this December.

Basshunter's album Now You're Gone managed to oust Coldplay from the top of the UK album chart, after five consecutive weeks at number one.

This week 331,000 copies of Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends were sold wordwide and the record still remains the biggest selling release across the world, with 3,554,000 copies of the album having been sold. 1,081,000 downloads of the single Viva La Vida have also been recorded.

If that wasn't enough, Cemeteries Of London, Yes, Life In Technicolor, Strawberry Swing, 42 and Death And All His Friends have all entered the U.S. Billboard iLike Libraries chart. [thanks coldpatrix]

Meanwhile, the album chart was gripped by Abba mania, as the Mamma Mia! film soundtrack became the week's best-selling album, while the West End soundtrack climbed 16 places to reach 19 in the chart. Abba's greatest hits compilation, Gold - already the fourth best selling album of all time in the UK - also returned to the top 10 after a four-year break.

I thought that this was a GREAT opportunity for the band to really 'step it up' from their last two shows in LA. The first half somewhat left me disappointed (same order like last time from Life in Technicolor to Strawberry Swing). But right after, Chris then goes on saying "I wish there was a way for us to be up in the back *wink*" (YES I SAW HIM WINK/GRIN, THAT LITTLE SNEAK!). I guess I, along with maybe the other few Coldplay fanatics, knew about the bits and surprises from LA, but when Chris spurted that line I was immediately suspicious. Before anything else was said, the first downbeat note of YELLOW was done and I went nuts!! It's been A LONG TIME since I heard the album/electric version of Yellow since the Twisted Logic tour!

But that doesn't end there....THE BOYS KICKED IT INTO THE HARD-HITTING NOTES OF POLITIK!! You guys probably wouldn't believe it, but I FUCKING WENT CRAZY HERE!! OMFG that had to be the best performance of Politik that I've ever seen since the Grammy's (....okay that's sort of an exaggeration, but it's been a while since they busted out that song!).

Coldplay singer, Chris Martin, says he would like to tour with teen Disney actress, Miley Cyrus, in a bizarre musical match up. Martin, 31, revealed his secret admiration for the Hannah Montana actress and aspiring pop singer, 15, saying: 'I like Miley Cyrus... I like the TV show.'

Quizzed on a possible touring team up, the Viva la Vida singer, said: 'I'd do it. Anyone we like or respect, no matter how different they may be, we would play with. 'She's doing something quite different... I just think she seems to have a sweet character.'

Coldplay have pulled selected items of tour merchandise on their current US jaunt, because in the words of Chris Martin, it is "crap".

The band felt the quality of some items on sale was substandard, which led to the removal of the goods from merch stalls at the concerts. "We were in the dressing room in L.A. looking at some of the stuff and much of it, especially some of the t-shirts, looked terrible." Frontman Martin is quoted as saying.

"We put so much work into our music. The same quality control has to extend to stuff being sold at our shows and we made that clear. It has to be a no crap zone."

Hundreds of Coldplay fans will be locked out of their Scottish concerts after a massive ticket mix-up.

Ticketmaster have recalled a batch of 3200 briefs after they were printed on the wrong paper. The gaffe means anyone who bought the tickets from secondary sources, such as eBay, will be denied entry to the concert. It is estimated that tickets originating from touts and fans who decided to sell them could number more than 800 for the two gigs on December 5 and 6.

Last night, Ticketmaster admitted only fans whose email addresses were registered at the time of sale would be issued with new tickets.

The band Filligar, which includes Hamilton student Casey Gibson '09, has been chosen as a finalist in the competition to open for Coldplay in their upcoming concert in Boston. Currently fourth in the pool of 15 finalists, Filligar needs to be one of the top three vote-winners in order to have the chance to be chosen by Coldplay as the opener.

Filligar is based out of Chicago and includes Gibson's childhood friends Pete, Teddy and Johnny Mathias. The band performed on the Hill as part of the May Day festivities this spring, and their song "Big Things" was featured on the season premiere of MTV's "Real World: Hollywood." Filligar has also self-released two albums, Succession, I Guess, and The City Tree, which received favorable reviews from critics including Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times and Sound Opinions. DeRogatis praised the album for its "poetic lyrics, keyboard arpeggios and genteel but winning melodies."

The concert, which will take place in Boston on August 4, is part of Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" tour. Filligar supporters can see the band's video and cast their votes at www.coldplayontour.com/wfnx.

"Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" (Parlophone/EMI) gives Coldplay a fourth week atop European Top 100 Albums, but there's a new leader on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles. Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" (Topdog/Atlantic/Warner Music) moves up 2-1, trading places with Estelle's "American Boy" (Homeschool/Atlantic), featuring Kanye West.

Coldplay leads the way again in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Switzerland, Greece and the Belgian region of Wallony, and moves back 2-1 in Holland. "Viva" has U.K. sales to last weekend of 708,000, according to the Official U.K. Charts Company.

* Ryan mentioned that he liked the Starbucks joke (venti vs. grande) and Chris said he was glad because it is difficult to be funny in front of a whole bunch of people.

* Chris thought the Monday night encore was much better than the one on Tuesday.

* He didn’t walk out when Ryan started asking personal questions. Ryan asked whether the family is with him when they are on the road and CM replied that given their busy schedules, sometimes they are together and sometimes not. Then he went on to say that sometimes when your father is a musician, it is better not to be around him for a couple of days.

* When some fans got on the phone with him, CM was very appreciative of their praise and said, “For reasons I cannot divulge this morning, this means a lot to me.” (Something to that effect.) Oh, and then Ryan played the clip from the Today show from a couple of weeks ago where CM said that Ryan designed their costumes. CM said, “You told us not to say anything!”
