Coldplay at the NRJ Awards - Au Revoir to the Ghost Stories era!

The band performed on the stage at the NRJ Awards in Cannes, France yesterday, as they capped off their final scheduled appearance of the beautiful Ghost Stories era, in front of a fun and cheerful audience. We heard the news of the performance prematurely, ahead of what was thought to be a live performance today but was infact pre-recorded in Cannes yesterday. A Sky Full Of Stars was the one track performed to the dancing audience of French enthusiasts. Samsung's Virtual Reality Experience, With Coldplay!

NextVR, a virtual reality headset, released by Samsung, will bring Coldplay's A Sky Full Of Stars, from the Ghost Stories film to life, wherever you are!

You can watch the following video of Mashable's experience with this high tech gadget. The stunning piece of kit, NextVR can be experienced with multiple activities, including gaming and even at a fashion show!

Good evening. We're pleased to report that NextVR, a technology company that captures and delivers live and on-demand virtual reality experiences, today announced their first content release – Coldplay’s Ghost Stories Virtual Reality Concert Experience.

The entire concert was shot in VR and a clip of the first song, A Sky Full of Stars, will be available soon via the NextVR app and accessed in conjunction with the recently released Samsung Gear VR headset.

The virtual reality concert puts Coldplay fans directly in the middle of the action, viewing the band members as if they are on stage with them. The concert film is the first ever broadcast quality VR experience. This quality VR experience has never before been possible.

NextVR worked with Coldplay in London over the summer to develop the VR concert concept as a cutting edge experience for both fans who saw the concert live and wanted to experience it again, as well as those who were unable to attend. NextVR aims to follow up the release of A Sky Full Of Stars with the full concert over the coming months and is in talks with Coldplay for future virtual reality collaborations.

According to Phil Harvey, Coldplay's Creative Director: “You’re literally inside the show, front of stage with the band. The quality of this virtual reality experience is far superior to anything else out there. It’s pretty mind-blowing.”

NextVR made the announcement from the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York, where NextVR presented on the future of virtual reality panel with the NBA, Formation 8 and AltspaceVR.

The co-founder of NextVR, DJ Roller told us of the immersive experience :

“If you thought going to an IMAX theatre felt like almost being there, you will be floored when you view NextVR’s content. It’s almost better than being there. There is no comparison for what we’re offering because it hasn’t existed until now. We’ve worked on perfecting the technology for the past five years, and now we’re excited to finally share the result.”

The Mesmeric Ghost Stories Live 2014 is out now & vote for your highlight!

Ghost Stories Live 2014 is now available worldwide as of Monday 24th November and the majority of Coldplayers have now had a chance to re-live the Ghost Stories film, originally aired as a TV special back in May. The Mesmeric live album also includes previously unseen music videos such as Ghost Story, Ink (Live at The Royal Albert Hall) and the extended, directors cut of Coldplay's first single during the Ghost Stories era, Magic.

The first lot of reactions to Ghost Stories Live 2014 came pouring in before the weekend when the live DVD/CD/Blu-Ray was released in a few countries including France and Australia on Friday 21st November. You can view the track listing here if you are yet to purchase the bundle.

For the three new pieces of footage on the extras section of the Blu-ray/DVD disc, each one was equally impressive. The extended music video for Magic was very charming and the piano intro provided a lovely introduction after the initial cameo with Peter Fonda. Ghost Story was how we expected it to be upon watching the Halloween preview and gave us a solid over four minutes of the band's chemistry, along with the neat editing of the clip. Ink, live at The Royal Albert Hall will give pure nostalgia to those who were present at the historic gig back in July and an all round great live highlights compilation of the whole show, not just the visuals when Coldplay performed Ink. Forum members have confirmed that parts of the footage from the Ink video were from the 2nd July (through ARoBttH14 spotting himself too!). The ratio of footage involving both London shows is unknown.

As you may of noticed already, the film loops back to the beginning after ending. This is intentional and is related to the symbol of O, the ninth track from the Ghost Stories. Coldplayer, Safy quotes a previous blog entry from director, Paul Dugdale

The film starts and ends with the same frame, and for the DVD / Blu Ray version of the piece we have looped the film with a seamless join, so that it plays in a continuous loop, cycling forever. The perfect-circle.

First reactions to Ghost Stories Live 2014!

Ghost Stories Live 2014 was released to a few countries yesterday ahead of it's Monday worldwide outing as the Coldplayers living in Germany, Australia, Ireland, France and The Netherlands had their exclusive first plays of the new Coldplay live film set. Excited fans took to the forums, Facebook and Twitter to voice their delight. Here are the first reactions, while the whole world waits for the full release on Monday! This is of course without revealing spoilers of what's actually included in the unseen footage such as the Magic video (Director's cut) and Ink (Live at the Royal Albert Hall). You can experience the fantastic pieces of Coldplay film for yourself on Monday if you haven't already!Danceteacher, from Germany on the forums was one the first to receive it and certainly the most patient!

I came home late and it was in my mailbox I will restrain myself from watching it till December when I will watch it together with some other Coldplayers including Batman

Viva_La_Coldplay / @AprilXyloto reviewed Ghost Stories Live 2014, telling us their highlights and not giving much away at the same time.

I think the extras on Live 2014 are particularly good. I watched the film for the first time yesterday and although I'm sure a lot of us have seen the film before, having the unseen extras makes it feel really worth buying.The extended Magic video is absolutely superb. I can see how the band obviously wanted to make it a short film, rather than a music video, and the song itself really benefits from having that extra few minutes on either side of what we'd already seen. That extra time has allowed us to see that the story is being told by Chris' character in the future. Basically he's a master of magic and he's telling us how that came to be. At the end he asks which one he is - as in, is the character we see in the future the good guy or bad guy? It sort of made me think a little deeper about Magic itself, it's taken on quite a different meaning for me now: I feel like the end (which I won't give away) might even be symbolic of Chris' prediction of his own future. That only makes me love Magic even more! It was also wonderful to see the music video in colour. Everyone is going to love it!Probably my favourite part on the dvd was the inclusion of Ink live from RAH. The effects and lights look absolutely stunning, and I feel this live version is actually better than the studio recording. As soon as it started my heart jumped into my throat. It's so, *so* achingly beautiful. It will be especially wonderful for the fans who were lucky enough to be there that night! It would be great if we could get a full film of just the RAH show, I think many will agree. From the looks of Ink, it would translate absolutely incredibly to film. Live 2014 rounds off the Ghost Stories era. It's been so different to any era that's passed. I mean, we've basically had an era start and end in the same year, and the emotion that has come with it has been so much more raw - and obvious - than anything we've had before. It seems fitting to have ended such a different time with a different type of film, more arty than Live 2003 or 2012. It's almost like they wanted to throw in a few extras to make the fans know they haven't forgotten how much we love those live clips! I love how unique it is and the inclusion of so many great extras. I can't wait to see how this takes them into LP7.

On the good guy and bad guy comparison, please read or listen to the Ghost Stories walkthrough, from Chris Martin earlier on in the week and also, the Zane Lowe and Chris interview, from just before the Ghost Stories release. Both of those will make the film a much more immersive experience!

Ghost Stories Live 2014 - 5 Awesome things we can't wait for!

Ghost Stories Live 2014 is just around the corner and in anticipation, here are 5 awesome things we all can't wait for on the Live 2014 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD set which you can pre-order in time for its official release date, on November 24th.

1) Ghost Story - The official music video

Guy, Will, Jonny and Chris, all in the same room, playing the music that they love. Sometimes, simplicity results in the best music videos (Speed of Sound, anyone?) and judging by the clip we have seen, it's likely to be more of the same. The track itself combines elements of 'old school' Coldplay with the flavour of their current album, Ghost Stories. The preview clip Coldplay treated us to on Halloween can be seen below.

2) Ghost Stories live, uninterrupted and in full HD

Ghost Stories the film in all its glory, from start to finish, in the way the album is meant to run! No skipping adverts or even missing out tracks such as Ink, which did not feature on the NBC TV special back in May. For the best experience, order the Blu-ray, fire up your Blu-Ray player/Playstation/other, perhaps experience Live 2012 and Live 2014 back to back as you sit back (or jump around!) and watch until your heart's content.

3) Ink - Live at The Royal Albert Hall, London

Most Coldplayers who have pre-ordered Ghost Stories Live 2014 on iTunes or have purchased it separately would of heard the audio of Ink live at Casino De Paris and the magnificent sing-a-long to the catchy riff. We will all be looking forward to gazing (once more for some!) at the stunning visuals beaming from the roof at the Royal Albert Hall back in July in form of a music video, to be released alongside the many official videos we have watched so far throughout the Ghost Stories era.

4) Ghost Stories in live audio format

Given Ghost Stories its 1,000th play yet? or are you onto 10,000 plays? The live audio album should freshen things up a bit! Another's Arms is one song with a strong contrast between the live and studio versions. You could point to Magic and O too as other examples. The general nature of Coldplay's production on albums nowadays always gives the live tracks a varied edge. Remember Mylo Xyloto in Summer 2011, we practically had half a live album (those who download audio from the festival performances) before finally listening to the actual studio version in October that year! It's fascinating that we will hear Ghost Stories exclusively live from start to finish, with the regular live highlights such as Clocks and Viva La Vida, which appeared on LeftRightLeftRightLeft along with Live 2012 more recently not in the mix. Both Coldplay hits did however feature on the original TV special of the Ghost Stories film back in May. To make things even better, it's not a direct rip from the DVD/Blu-Ray. The audio CD will include the best performances from London, Paris, Sydney and more!

Among all the album release craziness, we totally forgot about this! Phil and co perhaps decided to release it as part of Ghost Stories Live 2014 and spread out the new content. After all, in November, we're not exactly refreshing every Coldplay news source every minute are we? (Unless your impatiently waiting for Miracles to come!)

New music videos to be released with Ghost Stories DVD!

Coldplay fans woke up this morning to the brilliant news after a quiet few months that the spectacular Ghost Stories TV special we watched back in May will be released in DVD, CD and Blu-Ray format on 24th November! (Or 21st in Ireland and a select few countries) What makes this release extra special are the extra's which come as part of the whole package. A CD full of live highlights from 2014 will feature, along with eight (yes, 8!!!) music videos, featuring the already seen Midnight, Magic, A Sky Full Of Stars and True Love. The four unseen clips include : Magic, the extended cut in colour (We wandered what on earth happen to that), Ink (Live at The Royal Albert Hall) and music videos for B-sides/deluxe tracks, All Your Friends and Ghost Story!. All Your Friends will be themed around World War 1 as we are told by iTunes.Coldplay.com have announced that the live audio of Ink and the alternate live take of Always In My Head will both be downloaded automatically upon pre-ordering the live album on iTunes. KaeEM explains the 'alternate take' of Always In My Head for us :

In the TV Special the video of "Always in my Head" was filmed without an audience and with Chris floating around above the stage. And "Oceans" was filmed outside on a pier. I guess on the DVD version you can also see the live version as it was performed in front of the audience.
