Weekly Recap: July 16 - 31

We are back with a two-week recap as Coldplay has resumed the A Head Full of Dreams Tour, now in the U.S.!

SATURDAY, JULY 16 - SUNDAY, JULY 17

The band kicked off the U.S. leg with two spectacular shows in at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Download an interview with Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland as well as the first three songs from the first night here! Chris’s son, Moses, made the second request of the night, for which the band brought out Michael J. Fox. Watch a video of the band and Michael J. Fox performing Johnny B. WEDNESDAY, JULY 20

Coldplay’s second U.S. stop took place at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, making it the first arena show of the entire AHFOD Tour! Chris dedicated “Everglow” that night to Orlando, Nice, and Baton Rouge, and the request of the night was “Til Kingdom Come.”

THURSDAY, JULY 21

On July 21, Coldplay took to the Scottrade Center in St. Louis for another arena show. The band played the request “Green Eyes.”

SATURDAY, JULY 23 - SUNDAY, JULY 24

The band returned to the stadium setting for two shows in Chicago at Soldier Field. On both nights, the band was met with rough, stormy weather that led them to perform a shortened set and cancel the opening acts, Foxes and Alessia Cara. On the second night, Chris brought a young fan onto the stage for “Everglow” – watch the video below!

TUESDAY, JULY 26

Coldplay didn’t play a show this day, but that didn’t stop it from being full of Coldplay news! Global Citizen announced the lineup for its 2016 Festival, for which Chris is the musical curator, revealing him to be a special guest at the event! You can see the full lineup and take action to win tickets here. Coldplay was also nominated for three MTV VMAs, including Best Direction and Best Visual Effects for “Up&Up,” and Best Rock Video for “Adventure of a Lifetime.” Vote for the videos here!

WEDNESDAY, JULY 27

On July 27, Coldplay played a show at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, where the band played the request “Til Kingdom Come” among the standard AHFOD Tour setlist. R42 captured some great pictures of the band from the night – see two of them below!

THURSDAY, JULY 28

Coldplay continued its string of arena shows at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus. Chris did a cover of Rod Stewart’s “Have I Told You Lately,” which you can watch here. And you can watch a beautiful video of “Charlie Brown” from that night below!

SATURDAY, JULY 30

The band returned to the stadium setting to play at the Gillette Stadium in Boston. Before the show, Chris performed a solo set in Cape Cod for Mix 104.1 at the #MixBeachHouse! He also did an interview with the station before the set, which you can listen to here!

At Gillette Stadium, Coldplay played another spectacular show. The band also performed “Ride On” by Christy Moore in honor of Will Champion’s birthday!

Weekly Recap: June 15 - June 21, 2016

This week was exciting as Coldplay played not one, not two, not three, but four shows at London’s Wembley Stadium to more than 300,000 people!

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15

The first of four shows took place on June 15, with Coldplay playing the song request of “In My Place” followed by “See You Soon,” which the band dedicated to Orlando and played as the Wembley arch lit up with the colors of the rainbow in solidarity with the victims of the Orlando shooting. THURSDAY, JUNE 16

Coldplay continued their strong run of Wembley Stadium shows on June 16. They played “Green Eyes,” which they dedicated to Jo Cox, the family of Christina Grimmie, and once again, Orlando. They also played “God Put A Smile Upon Your Face” as the second request of the Wembley shows!

SATURDAY, JUNE 18

Coldplay returned to Wembley for the weekend, and were joined by the band Reef, who Chris tweeted were “the first band [they] saw in London in 1996.” On Saturday, Coldplay also played another cover of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” along with a tribute to Muhammad Ali. The third request of the four Wembley shows was also “Green Eyes,”

SUNDAY, JUNE 19

On Sunday, Coldplay took to the Wembley stage for a fourth and final show at the stadium. “Trouble” was the final song request of the set of gigs; the band also played “Always In My Head,” “See You Soon,” and a snippet of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long.”

TUESDAY, JUNE 21

Chris Martin performed a few songs for the iHeart Medialink Executive Dinner in Cannes, France. Songs included “Up&Up,” “Fix You,” and renditions of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret,” and David Bowie’s “Life on Mars.” Chris was also joined onstage by Will Smith, and the two performed an impromptu version of “Men In Black.” Watch a video of the moment down below!

Coldplay played two shows at the Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich, Switzerland this week.

SATURDAY, JUNE 11

On June 11, Coldplay performed the first night of shows in Zurich, Switzerland. The show was livestreamed on SRF 3, and can be downloaded here! In addition to the essentials, the band played “Strawberry Swing,” the song request of the night.

The band played a second show in Zurich, Switzerland on June 12, and

This week, Coldplay continued their European leg of the A Head Full of Dreams Tour in Germany and the United Kingdom.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1

On Wednesday last week, Coldplay played at the Veltin Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. After the piano broke during “Everglow,” the band played “Lovers in Japan” for the first time during this tour. Watch a short clip of the performance here!

SATURDAY - SUNDAY, JUNE 4 - 5

Coldplay returned to England to play two shows at the Ethiad Stadium in Manchester. However, before they played two rounds of shows to more than 80,000 people each, they performed an intimate show of just 22 people at the stadium for Nova’s Red Room Global Tour. Watch a clip of their performance of “Magic” below, and the videos of “Up&Up” and “Adventure of a Lifetime” on the Nova 96.9 website. You can also download the performances here. The stadium show on June 4 was streamed on Radio X – click here to download and listen to the show! The band played a clip of a Muhammad Ali speech shortly before "Everglow" and paid tribute to late band Viola Beach before performing "Fix You."

TUESDAY, JUNE 7

This week’s recap of shows ends in Glasgow, Scotland – Guy Berryman’s home country! The band played the standard setlist, with the addition of a cover of the song “500 Miles.” At the end of the show, Chris sweetly pushed Guy towards the front (as it was his home show). MAY 24

This week, Coldplay kicked off the European leg of the A Head Full of Dreams Tour in Nice, France at the Stade Charles-Ehrmann. They also revealed newly-designed Xylobands, with speakers and the flower of life symbol that also appears on the album cover. Watch a video of the Xylobands in action here!

MAY 26 - 27

After starting the tour off in Nice, Coldplay traveled to Barcelona, Spain to play two shows on May 26 and 27 at the Estadi Olimpic. The gig was live-blogged on Coldplay’s website, and we here at Coldplaying were even given a shout-out on the blog! The Coldplay snapchat (@coldplay) was also put into use again, as the show and hours leading up to it were live-snapchatted.

MAY 29

MAY 30

Coldplay announced two more dates on the A Head Full of Dreams Tour! The added shows will take place in Melbourne on December 10, 2016 and in Sydney on December 14, 2016 as part of the Australia and New Zealand leg of the tour later this year.

MAY 31

MONDAY - MAY 16, 2016

Coldplay released the imaginative music video for the third single from A Head Full of Dreams, “Up&Up.” The video has since received a lot of praise from critics and fans alike, and currently has reached more than 16 million views on YouTube in less than one week.

TUESDAY - MAY 17, 2016

Chris was interviewed on On Air with Ryan Seacrest, during which he shut down rumors about the A Head Full of Dreams Tour being Coldplay’s farewell tour.

Coldplay performed “Hymn for the Weekend” as well as “Up&Up” as an online-only exclusive on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Chris also did a short video with host Stephen Colbert that was tweeted out before the show aired.
