This feels a little weird, but this is the biggest most active forum and it's related (tangentially) to LP9 & Higher Power so it's worth a shot:

Hi everyone! My name is Brandon. I work for a summer camp in the United States and this week my group of elementary school kids is doing a lip sync battle. We picked Higher Power as our song, and one of my kids even hand-wrote the Kaotican for the title. We're dressing up as aliens just like in the video, and we're even gonna be in a "band." It would mean a lot to me if I could surprise them with a special shoutout from the band could on Twitter, and the only way I really know how to get the attention is to go begging for it on all the socials I could find. Attached is a link to my tweet, some big fan accounts like ColdplayXtra and Coldplaying have liked it, so it would mean a lot if you've got a Twitter to just give it a like or a retweet. It's a bit of a far-fetched idea, but surprising them would mean a lot to all of us. Attached is a picture of the artwork and a link to the tweet. Thank you so much!

If you want to get some promotion on a bigger forum, you can try the Coldplay Discord Server. There are more people over there and it's more active as it's more of a place to text about Coldplay instead of a forum board.

  2. more news! the shotlist from the barcelona shoot has been found on the floor of the filming location. zooming in, we can make out that Epiphane will be involved and that a new language will probs be introduced. also a shotlist with markers for a lot of the shot and a possible mention of BTS has been found. (we cant say if it really is bts because its blurry but its very likely.)

I know the one performance you mean - I always assumed this was because in the VLV era, Will would always sing the choruses in unison with Chris. Watch the video footage of this, and any other 2008-2009 performance and you'll see Will singing in the choruses. At the final chorus I think I only hear the vocal doubling at the end after the "oh's" finish, but hard to tell if it's Will's voice or Chris's. There's a separate question of is Will lip syncing, and the answer is maybe - supposedly he mentions he does in that master class he taught, though there are plenty instances of performances where you can hear Will make mistakes and stuff, which makes it seem like he doesn't lip sync 100% of the time either.

Also I'm fairly certain Today Show's vocal track is not the same as American Idol/BRIT Awards. Chris sings certain things fairly differently the whole time and I'm not convinced any of it is playback.

But I guess the bigger topic of is there lip syncing, obviously the answer is YES, and we just have to grapple with that as fans, recognising that many major artists do it and a few don't. But it's really hard to get away from the use of any backing tracks at all. Red Hot Chili Peppers reportedly did 100% playback (instruments and vocals) during their Super Bowl performance, though the playback is to a live pre-recorded track rather than a studio version. If that tells you anything about who does or doesn't do playback/lip-syncing.

About the Superbowl, Will revealed during a masterclass about their concerts that Coldplay's set was also all pre-recorded besides the vocals. Apparently the NFL just makes all the artists use pre-recorded stuff so they don't mess anything up during the peformance.

There was four singer, for me it was played live. Backing track vocal are used since 2005, even guitar backing track (Square one, yellow, 42 in 2008,...). The most important problem for me is when chris totally lipsync on songs.

Now as Chris use live playback vocal it's hard to know if he sang live or not. We don't know if ASFOS at NY yesterday was really sang live.

true. we would need a higher quality recording then an audience recording to tell if it's a pre-recorded vocal track.

Hello GamingForeverAUS, where do you find 5.1 rip ?

I have uploaded it here! Please read the breakdown below. It would also be preferable if you have any software that can view and handle mutiple audio tracks but that is not required.

FILE BREAKDOWN - "C" refers to channel / speaker that you would hear the audio out of in an actual real life 5.1 setup:

    • 5.1 Mix = The full mix, everything is all together.
    • C1&C2 = The mix that appears in the front two channels. Basically the left and rights.
    • C3 = The centre channel that has Jonny's guitar and some other effects.
    • C4 (subwoofer) = LFE effects.
    • C5&C6 = Reverbs, synths, the love choir.

Note that some of the audio files don't have any sound until specific parts of the song so if it sounds like there is no sound, skip ahead or just wait. Remember that this is all meant to be played together at the same time.

After hearing the official studio version of Higher Power for about, let's say...., 20-30 times or so, I can really say that this is currently my favourite studio version any Coldplay song to listen to these days. It's really been a long time since I actually love a studio version THAT much (so thanks Max!). To begin with, as we've all seen it everywhere many people were (and still are) quite sceptical about the studio version of HP and there's so much negativity about it since its release which is a shame. Because the studio version is NOT bad, the studio version is actually freaking GOOD. In my opinion, it's awesome!

The synths and the 80s vibe of Higher Power is something that makes the song kind of unique. The American Idol and BRITs performances were great. But there's something I really miss in those promo performances of HP is the fact that the synths during the choruses are pretty much gone. The synths are obviously still there but Jonny's guitar (as much as I love it) is so loud that it steals the show and it makes the synths barely audible. You can feel the 80s vibe.... just fading away. It's really disappointing, if you ask me!

A good thing about these 2 performances is that we now have a much better idea of what Jonny is actually plays throughout the entire song! With that being said, now it's a lot easier to hear J's guitar work if you listen to the studio version. By the way, I get the frustration many have. The first times I listened to the song I was like ''where is Jonny?''. Especially when you're not using headphones. There are lots of other noises that catch our attention (especially when hearing it for the 1st time). The studio version would not really benefit from the heavy guitar and the band really made the right choice to go with synths and with Jonny's guitar in the background. As mentioned before by CP-EST, the ''heavy'' guitar (like the BRITs / American Idol) is actually a bit overwhelming to listen to being a synth pop song, for radio play. If we go back and listen to the studio version, there is actually quite a lot of Jonny's electric guitar but often blended between all those different sounds!

    Here is a short summary.

1st verse: knowing what J plays live then just listen to this.... Jonny's guitar is actually quite noticeable, BUT very well mixed. It's really there, it's harder to hear when not using headphones (as always)

2nd verse: Especially during the first half of the 2nd verse you can clearly hear a huge difference between the studio version and 2 live versions.

2nd chorus: In the 2nd chorus there's a bit of soft strumming. Don't want to make it sound difficult, so J's guitar is coming from right(not left) side. Not only was his guitar turned up live, he also plays different from the studio version. Same notes but much louder strumming.

Bridge: exactly at 2:30; when Chris sings the lines ''got my hands up shaking just to let you know now'' right before the 3rd chorus kicks in, there is clearly Jonny's same echo sound but more ambient in the studio version, coming from the left side in your headphones. These are examples of guitar parts that we didn't even notice because we didn't even know if that was guitar.

in the 5.1 rip, you can hear Jonny's guitar isolated along with a couple of drum effects on the centre channel. They're very quiet in the mix if you look at the waveform but by increasing the gain a bit, you can actually hear what he plays durring the song. (mostly just rhythm).

    Chris is actually 44

There seems to be a terrible misunderstanding when it comes to Coldplay. Hannah just above me explained it well.

So anyway if you highly dislike that "big numbers" aspect of them I would suggest to sit this one out :laugh3: It must be indeed frustrating. No point in wasting your energy on a band that does not correspond to your vision of music. It's totally cool to prefer small bands or bands that put out music that's completely out of the trends etc. It's just a waste of time to expect that from Coldplay - and, since it's never been their promise, it's also unfair to call them out for it.

Now regarding the upcoming BRITs performance, what are we thinking? Same mix as American Idol or possibly a different one ?

this time they throw in the vlv chant to get the viewership ratings up

I read some of the comments on social media about the new track from what seems like younger fans (do they "stan" Chris now? lol) and it made me think...do they get teased in school about liking Coldplay? That used to be a rite of passage.

For me, whenever I bring up Coldplay they mostly go ‚Äúyes. I know them.‚ÄĚ And then¬†sing paradise over and over again. So I think that my current generation have softened up a bit for pop Coldplay.
