Coldplay have today announced the release of their highly-anticipated tenth album, Moon Music. The record will land in stores and on streaming services on October 4, 2024.

The album's first single, feelslikeimfallinginlove, will be released globally on Friday, June 21. The single can be presaved here. The band performed the song for the first time last night during their sold out stadium show at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna - see video here.

Moon Music, which was produced by Max Martin, is available to pre-order everywhere now, with a limited number of hand-signed editions available from the official Coldplay Store, at store.coldplay.com.

NEW FORMATS AND NEW SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS

In tandem with Coldplay’s ground-breaking sustainability measures on their current tour - which has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour - the band have gone to great lengths to make the physical release of Moon Music as sustainable as possible.

This will be the world's first album released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, with each copy made from 9 recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste. This will prevent the manufacture of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic, and provide an 85% reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions/kg compared to traditional 140g vinyl.

Additionally, the band have collaborated with long-time partners The Ocean Cleanup to create an additional format: the Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP. The rPET for this edition comprises 70% river plastic, intercepted by The Ocean Cleanup from the Rio Las Vacas, Guatemala, and prevented from reaching the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean. The CD editions of Moon Music will be the world’s first to be released on EcoCD, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams. This will provide at least a 78% CO2/kg emission reduction, and avoid the manufacture of more than five metric tonnes of virgin plastic.

LIMITED FIRST EDITION RELEASE

In an effort to reduce waste, the first edition run of Moon Music (both EcoRecord LP and EcoCD) will be strictly limited and produced at a higher specification than any future editions. All First Edition EcoRecord LP products will be individually numbered.

Moon Music is available to pre-order now in four physical formats, all clearly marked as First Edition, with all EcoRecord rPET LP products individually numbered:

• Standard EcoRecord LP
• Notebook Edition EcoCD
• Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP + EcoCD

The Notebook Edition (EcoCD and EcoRecord LP) comes as a casebound hardback book. The book is a faithful replica of Chris Martin’s original studio notebook, featuring 28 pages of unseen notes, lyrics and illustrations from the album’s writing and recording process. The Notebook Edition also includes additional voice notes and demos from the album’s recording sessions, providing a special insight into the music’s development.

Moon Music is Coldplay’s first album since 2021’s Music Of The Spheres, which spawned the US Number One single with BTS, My Universe, and was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Music Of The Spheres has already accumulated more than four billion streams.

Back when Everyday Life was released, the middle page of the album booklet contained a teaser for the band's next album 'Music of The Spheres' which had not yet been announced at the time. The image also showed a vintage car with the numberplate showing 'FFTF2024'.

Fans have long speculated over the last 5 years or so about the meaning of this. With today's announcement of Moon Music, we now know a bit more information!

Coldplay have shared links for pre-ordering and pre-adding their latest album on various streaming services. Interestingly, the iTunes link includes a trailer for a film titled afilmforthefuture.

This development sheds light on the enigmatic teaser from Everyday Life, providing fans with a clearer understanding of the band's long-term vision and the meaning behind 'FFTF2024'.

Coldplay have today given an update on the sustainability initiatives that form a central part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, which began in March 2022 and has so far sold more than 9 million tickets.

The band, whose tour resumes in Athens, Greece on June 8, revealed that their current tour has so far produced 59% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17, exceeding their original target of a 50% reduction. They also revealed that 7 million trees have already been planted, as part of the band’s commitment to plant a tree for every concert goer attending the tour.

The band’s efforts have been assessed and validated by Professor John E. Fernandez of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Environmental Solutions Initiative, who said: “Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry.”

All of the band’s data and environmental impact assessments from both the A Head Full Of Dreams Tour (2016/2017) and the first year of the Music Of The Spheres Tour were shared with the team and leadership at the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, who said:

"For some time now, Coldplay has been leading by example in taking seriously and acting on the various interrelated environmental and social challenges facing humanity; climate change, biodiversity loss, air and water pollution, environmental injustice and more.

With each subsequent year of their tour they demonstrate an evolving vision and expanded commitment to move the entire music industry toward true and humane sustainability and planetary resilience. From collecting unprecedented amounts of data to taking specific actions today based on rigorous analysis, Coldplay is modelling a trajectory toward a low carbon, biodiverse and equitable future.

I, Prof. John E. Fernández of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, have reviewed their latest efforts and endorse and congratulate Coldplay in their dedication to positive and meaningful actions and Hope Solutions in their comprehensive and meticulous analysis and recommendations.

This latest analysis of Coldplay’s impact on the environment from touring is again setting a new standard for the entire music industry. The data and the methods of analysis support the conclusion that substantial progress has been made to reduce emissions in touring."

Today, 26 August, marks exactly twenty years since Coldplay released their second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head. The multi Grammy-winning number one album has since sold over 17 million copies worldwide.

To mark the anniversary, the band have released an upgraded 4K version of the iconic Jamie Thraves-directed video for The Scientist, which has been restored and re-graded from the original 35mm film rushes.

The 4K version is available to watch now on The Scientist’s original YouTube link - where the video has already accumulated more than 1 billion views - at youtu.be/RB-RcX5DS5A.

The entire album - which featured the singles In My Place, The Scientist, Clocks and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - has also been newly mixed for Dolby Atmos. The Dolby Atmos version is available to listen now on Apple Music, Amazon and TIDAL.

On its release, A Rush Of Blood To The Head was described by NME as “an album of outstanding natural beauty”, with Rolling Stone calling it “first rate” and Q presciently hailing it as “a collection of vastly moving songs that will render stadiums as intimate as bedrooms” (as has proven to the the case when the band play songs from the album on their current Music Of The Spheres World Tour).

Features a new version of the band's latest single with Selena Gomez and a Kid Cudi cover!

Coldplay have today released their first Spotify Singles recording. Side A of the two-track release is an intimate and stripped-down acoustic version of the band’s current single Let Somebody Go with Selena Gomez (who also features on the new recording). Side B is the band’s upbeat, synthy cover of Kid Cudi’s iconic 2008 hit Day ‘N’ Nite. Both songs were recorded at Henson Recording Studio, Los Angeles.

Chris Martin said: "I have always loved Selena’s voice and when Let Somebody Go arrived it felt like she was the only person to sing it with. I’m so happy she said yes. She is wonderful to work with and the kind of artist whose work sounds even better after you get to meet them.”

"Day 'N' Nite - I loved when it came out, and I still love love love it.” Martin continued, “This is the first time I think that we’ve really taken proper time to record a cover, because in my head I could hear a version of it quite different from the original, that hopefully just reinforces what a brilliant song it is. One way or another I hope that anyone listening will just think, 'Wow, Kid Cudi is amazing.'"

Unanimous disappointment from fans as Coldplay bassist and Applied Art Forms creative director, Guy Berryman, shows off his newly acquired 'Bored Yacht Club' NFT on Twitter.

As NFT's have gained popularity, many have expressed their distaste towards them. However, it hasn't stopped celebrities from investing in these environmentally unfriendly 'Non-fungible tokens'.

Guy Berryman is among the latest in a slew of celebs that have received backlash for their purchase and Coldplay fans are not holding back.

While many are joking about being able to "right click and save" the NFT, others aren't as forgiving of Berryman's decision to dabble in the Ethereum blockchain.

Long-time Coldplay collaborator Brian Eno has expressed his scepticism towards cryptocurrency - NFT's in particular.

“NFTs seem to me just a way for artists to get a little piece of the action from global capitalism, our own cute little version of financialization,”  Eno tells 'Crypto Syllabus' “How sweet — now artists can become little capitalist assholes as well.”

According to carbon.fyi, it is estimated that Guy is responsible for approximately 354 kilograms of CO₂ emissions throughout his foray into NFT's. Berryman's latest purchase is estimated to have cost upwards of $200,000, leading fans to discover previous purchases through his profile on OpenSea.

Coldplay are currently gearing up for a massive world tour to accompany their ninth studio album 'Music of The Spheres'. With the announcement of the tour, the band pledged to make it as environmentally friendly as possible.

"We're very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we've spent the past two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible" Coldplay said in a tweet.

Guy's unnecessary carbon contributions not only encourage others to do the same but also completely goes against the band's mantra towards climate change.

“MY UNIVERSE” MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST HOT 100 #1 BY TWO CO-BILLED LEAD GROUPS

Coldplay have today earned their second Billboard Hot 100 #1, their first since 2008, with their hit new collaboration “My Universe” with BTS. The single makes history as the first Hot 100 #1 ever by two co-billed lead groups, in addition to topping the Digital Song Sales, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts.

“My Universe” has also shattered records internationally, achieving the biggest first week download number in the UK this year and debuting at #1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. The single also finished the week at #3 on the Official UK Charts and was the #1 most viewed song on YouTube last week with a total of 76.6 million combined views across uploads.

Helmed by superstar director Dave Meyers - whose credits include Taylor Swift, Travis Scott and Billie Eilish - the Higher Power video sees the band exploring a colorful trash planet named Kaotica, whose alien language (Kaotican) features in the video and across the Higher Power artwork.

Kaotica is populated by robot dogs, giant holograms and a street-gang of dancing aliens, performed by Seoul’s Ambiguous Dance Company.

Said Meyers: “The video is a metaphor for how, right now, we all feel alienated, far removed from our world, almost like we’re on an alien planet. And ultimately we find love in the streets and that euphoria shoots us off into the stratosphere of our own energy and higher power.”

Since its release last month, Higher Power has already been streamed more than 75 million times and topped sales and airplay charts around the world.

The video made its global broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU and across MTV’s global network of channels, as well as on the ViacomCBS Times Square billboard.

This also marks Coldplay's first video shot and published in UHD. Yellow was previously re-scanned in UHD and uploaded for the 20th anniversary of Parachutes. However, it seems to have reverted back to 720p.

Taking place across four days for the first time in the event’s 18-year history (28 - 31 May 2021), Radio 1’s Big Weekend of Live Music 2021 will be the ultimate bank holiday destination, with over 100 live performances for fans to enjoy. Around 50 of the performances will be brand new live sets recorded exclusively for Big Weekend 2021, with five filmed on location around the UK and more to be recorded in the BBC’s Radio Theatre.

Coldplay perform at Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire, the centuries-old monastic ruins that formed the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, while Ed Sheeran’s performance takes place at Snape Maltings, a landmark arts complex on the banks of the River Alde in Suffolk. AJ Tracey performs at The Regal, a basketball court belonging to South London community hub The Black Prince Trust; Jorja Smith performs at the iconic Alexandra Palace in North London; and Royal Blood perform on Brighton Pier in Sussex.

The full line up and performance schedule across the weekend can be found on the Radio 1 website. The Radio 1 DJ family will be coming together in person for the first time in over a year to host the event from an outdoor studio across the weekend.

Performances will be broadcast on Radio 1 with full sets available on BBC Sounds. Fans will also be able to watch a selection of tracks on Radio 1’s BBC iPlayer and YouTube channels, with a curated stream on BBC iPlayer featuring select performances and artist interviews from Saturday - Monday.

BBC One will also broadcast a 90-minute Big Weekend special hosted by Radio 1 Breakfast host Greg James. Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2021: Best Bits (Saturday 29 May, 10.20pm-11.50pm) will showcase some of the highlights from each of the new sets filmed around the UK and in the BBC’s Radio Theatre.

Coldplay’s new single, Higher Power, is out now via Parlophone / Atlantic. The Max Martin-produced song is available to stream / download everywhere here.

To celebrate Higher Power’s release, the band linked up for an extraterrestrial video chat with French ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who is currently on board the International Space Station.

A specially-recorded performance of Higher Power - featuring dancing alien holograms - was beamed up to Pesquet, who gave the track its very first play on board the ISS.

The song’s premiere followed a conversation which took in similarities between life on tour and life on the ISS; the fragility of planet earth; and whether Pesquet has spotted any aliens.

Coldplay will perform Higher Power on American Idol on Sunday (May 9) and at the BRIT Awards on Tuesday (May 11). The band will also perform a set for Glastonbury’s Live At Worthy Farm global livestream on May 22.

The announcement confirms fan rumors that have circulated since last week, when cryptic billboards around the world pointed to a mysterious website called alienradio.fm.

Fans managed to decipher the letter-like symbols to uncover the song title and release date.

It seems Coldplay are finally making a comeback as new music is teased through 'Alien Radio FM'.

Coldplay are no stranger to unique album marketing methods, most notably, Everyday Life being teased through letters sent to fans and newspaper ads.

However, the band's latest venture has been teased through alienradio.fm, a website resembling a radio scanner where the user moves their mouse cursor across the page to tune into different frequencies. Around 17 'stations' have been discovered so far, each playing an audio clip read in different languages.

Coldplaying and ColdplayXtra discovered the website after a mysterious account started following Coldplay fans on Twitter. After some hardcore investigation done by the team, we broke the news on Friday that Alien Radio FM is very likely to be affiliated with Coldplay.

The account proved its authenticity by tweeting a photo of posters in New York and on the London Underground along with co-ordinates to both locations.

Throughout the night, Coldplay fans got to work on deciphering each aspect of the website and with each discovery came more clues. The website features a cryptic language that took a few hours to translate. ColdplayXtra led the decryption efforts by assuming Coldplay was the first string and using P, O, A, Y to fill the blanks. A common letter appeared and after presuming it to be 'E', the phrase became clear enough to break the news. It appeared as follows:

The random glyphs had now been deciphered and with that, came a release date. 'Higher Power' and May 7th sound a lot like a release date for a single. May 7th also happens to fall on a Friday, the prime time for 99% of music releases. This all lines up with Coldplay's performance at Worthy Farm Live on 22nd May, giving them a perfect opportunity to perform the single at their first major live performance in years!

As the pseudo-language had now been deciphered, fans started to decipher a much longer string of text that appeared on the top of the page. It read:

Finally, Coldplaying made a dump of the audio files very early on so users of the forum could start translating the various 'stations' as soon as possible. The English stations were first to be understood with one station featuring a man reciting Aristotle's 'On The Heavens'.

Other stations mostly talk about space related topics, with one Dutch station reciting Alice in Wonderland and a Czech station featuring a children's poem about an ant getting hurt.

A 'numbers station' also exists on one of the frequencies. Hovering over a certain spot on the grid plays a simple melody while a cryptic code scrolls along the bottom of the screen. As of today, it has not been cracked, although many are assuming it's just a numbers station that has no message.

Other theories and discoveries are currently being discussed on the Coldplaying Forum and I highly recommend giving it a read!

Coldplay have missed out on the 'Album of The Year' GRAMMY award.

Coldplay fans across the world were disappointed tonight after the band missed out on a GRAMMY win after 'Album of The Year' went to Taylor Swift's 'Folklore'.

Coldplay's acclaimed eight album was nominated alongside Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Haim, Jacob Collier, Black Pumas and Jhené Aiko.

However, all was not last as Chris Martin performed alongside Brittany Howard with a performance of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' to honour the late Gerry Marsden who sadly passed in January.

Chris Martin will perform at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards on Sunday March 14th!

Today, the Recording Academy announced the full line-up for this years GRAMMY awards which take place on Sunday March 14th. Along those announced, Chris Martin will be performing without his fellow bandmates. It is unknown whether it will be live or a pre-recorded performance.

Among those performing are Bad Bunny, Black Pumas, Cardi B, BTS, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Mickey Guyton, Haim, Brittany Howard, Miranda Lambert, Lil Baby, Dua Lipa, John Mayer, Megan Thee Stallion, Maren Morris, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift.

Coldplay are nominated for 'Album of The Year' for their eight studio album 'Everyday Life'. Everyday Life art director, Pilar Zeta is also nominated for 'Best Album Package'.

If Coldplay win 'Record of The Year', it will be their eight GRAMMY win and their first win since 2008!

Massively popular K-Pop group 'BTS' have covered Coldplay's ever-popular track 'Fix You' for MTV Unplugged!

The grammy nominated group made their debut on MTV Unplugged last night from a stage on Seoul, South Korea. The group performed a slew of new songs from their latest album BE (Deluxe Edition) for the first time.

To the surprise of viewers, BTS switched to english and performed a beautiful rendition of Coldplay's multi-platinum single 'Fix You'. Before diving into the cover, Jimin shared, “This song gave us comfort, so we wanted to prepare this cover to comfort you as well.” Take a listen below:

Today Coldplay played a short live set on Instagram in support of Global Citizen’s ‘Every Vote Counts’ campaign.

Coldplay, a band comfortable playing in front of 70,000 people in stadiums, played live to a virtual audience today on Instagram in their typical awkwardly cute ways.

We were treated to Phil on camera, pointing his phone close to each band members face while they cheerily smile and laugh at each other. Phil also paused the band halfway through their set to untangle himself from the bundle of wires tethered to the phone!

While troubled with a few technical issues, the band played a spectacular set live from Hansa Studios in Berlin.

Despite the glitches, Coldplay proved their versatility as a band today by playing each song live and raw without their usual spectacles of fireworks, lasers and massive screens. Each track was performed beautifully by each band member accompanied only by their own instruments. It's rare that we ever get treated to such an incredible stripped back set from Coldplay but they have outdone themselves today!

Everything’s Not Lost was particularly well received by fans on Twitter who haven’t heard the song played live in years.

During the Instagram Live, Chris pleaded with viewers to vote in the upcoming US 2020 presidential election and asked major news outlets to hold off on calling the election until every vote is counted

Many states can’t start counting mail-in ballots until Election Day, and with more people than ever voting by mail due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it may take weeks to count them. Whether former Vice President Joe Biden or President Donald Trump wins could come down to a few states, and if news outlets call the results prematurely, it could have serious consequences, causing confusion, doubt in the democratic process, and even unrest. 

Popular Coldplay cover band 'Atlas Apart', have released a new cover of 'Lovers in Japan' and it's epic!

Atlas Apart was formed during lockdown back in March to participate in Global Citizen's ' Together at Home', a campaign rallying funds for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.

The group follows Coldplay's mantra of 'One Big Band', a staple of Coldplay's concerts in recent years, and has received massive community involvement from the wonderful Coldplay fanbase! Whilst not having a round-the-clock frontman, the group employs a new singer for each cover to showcase the vast talent present in the Coldplay community. 

Atlas Apart consists of violinist Elif from England, guitarist Gideon and drummer Frank from The Netherlands, and pianist / guitarist Kyle and bassist / guitarist Rece from the US.

When asked about working from opposite ends of the world, the group said: "It's amazing yet a little challenging. We've definitely got a nice flow going when it comes to recording. Although it's a little challenging sometimes, it makes it more rewarding when the pieces all come together for the final song. It still would be nice to play/jam in the same space with everyone, but thats what makes this band special. Playing together from opposite sides of the world."

The band's latest project is a cover of Lovers in Japan, a fan favourite taken from Coldplay's fourth studio album.

"As soon as we discussed doing Lovers in Japan, my homemade tack piano was the first thing that popped into my head. Unfortunately it's a little out of tune and I didn't have enough time to get someone to come and tune it. So I bought a tack piano VST for the audio,  but decided to use the tack piano for the visual. It was the first time I played it in a cover other than showing it initially back in 2013. It probably would have been more fitting for the Charlie Brown cover seeing as it has an MX coat of paint, but the tack aspect of it was perfect for Lovers in Japan" says Kyle.

"We are working on originals as well! We are looking forward to the future and wherever it might take us. We have these goals set up to achieve as a band. Some of them include things like finding a permanent vocalist, releasing our first original, etc... We are in full throttle mode right now with creating the music, and can’t wait to record them fully! Well, once we find a permanent vocalist"

Today, July 10th, marks twenty years since Coldplay released their debut album, ‘Parachutes’. The multi-platinum number one album has since sold over 13 million copies worldwide.

‘Parachutes’ includes the band’s first major hit  ‘Yellow’ - the song that launched the band on the international stage, as well as ‘Shiver’, ‘Trouble’ and ‘Don’t Panic.’  To mark the album's 20th anniversary, the videos for its four singles have been restored to HD quality.

In 2001, following the release of ‘Parachutes’, the band were nominated for five BRIT Awards, winning both Best British Album and Best British Group. The band have gone on to win Best British Album three times and Best British Group four times, alongside a host of other awards. 

Parachutes was described by Rolling Stone as ‘a work of real transcendence’ and by Melody Maker as a “masterpiece”.  NME declared 'It's incredible this is a debut album.'
