EMI UK Offers Back Catalogue To PSP Users

emi.jpgEMI Music UK is the first major music company to sign a deal with the PSP-Playlist to allow artists' music videos to be downloaded onto the Sony PSP handheld device.

The contract with HiFi Entertainment makes EMI's entire back catalogue of promotional single videos, including hits from Robbie Williams and Coldplay, available to UK PSP users.

Videos will cost from £1.89 to £2.19 and can be downloaded from the PSP-Playlist site straight onto Sony's Universal Media Disc (UMD) format, which plays on PSPs. To date 20m PSP consoles have been sold worldwide, with 1.5m registered to customers in the UK.

Graeme Rogan, commercial manger of digital media at EMI Music, said, "This deal will give users of the PSP access to videos from EMI Music UK's rich back catalogue, generating incremental sales for our artists."

Bela Molnar, MD of HiFi Entertainment, added, "The quick downturn of the UMD market has left many of the big believers in the format disappointed. We know the PSP market is huge but it needs a different platform to provide content to users. We believe that PSP-Playlist will provide a new way of communicating with PSP users."
