According to figures released today, the total cost of putting on the series of shows across the globe in July was over $15 million but raised around $20.6 million. The profit, which amounts to £2.7 million, is expected to be used as part of the ongoing effort to mobilise the G8 countries into recognising and addressing the issue of African poverty.

Madonna, Robbie Williams, Paul McCartney, U2, Scissor Sisters, Coldplay and a reformed Pink Floyd were amongst the performers at the London leg of Live 8 in Hyde Park.

Live 8 took place on July 2, 2005, and was organised by Bob Geldof.
