Sunday digest: Your thoughts on when Coldplay's LP5 is likely to be released

coldplaynme.jpgBack in 2008, when Coldplayer locust7 declared that he had already heard the (then) new single Violet Hill two weeks before it was actually released, reactions were, "yeah, right... prove it," and "liar, liar, your bum's on fire." Well, of course he couldn't 'prove it' and his bum wasn't really on fire, but when his written review of Violet Hill matched the song precisely when it was finally made public a couple of weeks later, everyone started to take notice of his posts. He followed this up with information on the LP4 mixing process and then insights into the snippets of some songs from Viva La Vida that he had already heard.

Fast forward to February 2011, and locust7 is back to give us an insight into when we might be expecting LP5. He posted: "I can confirm the change of plans in the Coldplay camp regarding the schedule of the release of LP5, originally before Summer. Hope people can wait until October. Everybody who guessed October as the month of release deserves a prize. Just my two cents on it."

Anyway, since this new admission, which features alongside a 'revelation' found in the Spanish media about a delay until the end of the year, you have been discussing a possible October release for LP5. Below are some of your latest comments...

I think October makes sense based on what the label has said as well. I originally guessed June, but I think that's a bit early for where they seem to be in the recording process right now. I also tend to pay a bit more attention when this locust7 guy speaks because he's been right about these kinds of things before... I think if that we're really going to get the album any earlier than July/August, we're going to start getting more news very soon, like in the next four weeks. March was when all the exciting news about VLVOD was coming out, and on average bands seem to start releasing concrete info around the three-months-before-release mark, so if people are still clinging to the hope of a June release, I think the month of March and early April is kind of a litmus test. [thanks ApproximatelyInfinite]

October is a bad choice in my opinion, and its not because they're taking too much time, I just want a good album. I mean, they just can't play the viva tour things again, I mean they toured way too much so it'd be boring. And let's face it, the old songs stuff would be awesome but only fans would appreciate it. Yes, they could play new songs, but at festivals that wouldn't be that smart, they are headlining everywhere and well, it's not like only coldplay fans would be there. It could be boring and not make a great impression. [thanks Lore]

As for the [summer] festivals, I hope they'll do it Kings of Leon style and will debute new songs there. We can have 3-4 new tracks and old songs. Would be cool and logic! [thanks a-chan]

I say in July, following the trend of the previous albums. For a tour, I'm not sure if the could start so soon, remember the VLV tour officially ended last year... so, I would say after the festivals, they may wait some months and start touring in Europe as usual and the US, Japan/Australia and *lets hope* a SouthAmerican tour. That's just my guess anyway... I would be happy with a single now... and I hope for something better than Christmas Lights, of course. [thanks ipodthermic]

First time in the [Coldplay album release] hype for me, but after borderline stalking locust7, to see who the flip this coldplayninja was, the hype looks SOOOOO cool! like apparently this guy leaked almost the entire album onto here before it was out. Theyre going to release it on the 42nd tuesday of the year! October 18th... thats a complete guess but if locust is right, and he usually is, it'll be out in october. albums come out on Tuesdays, and that gives me a 25% chance of being right! [thanks JackZ]

As I said a few weeks ago album released after festival dates where we could see around 5/6 new songs. Good tactic. No one complained when they put on that incredible show at Glastonbury 2002 where everyone only really knew Yellow and Trouble so it shouldn't be a problem at all. Possibly a tour starting in November starting in the UK and then doing the whole world after Christmas. [thanks howyousawtheworld]

You can of course add your comments or read the full thread on when you think LP5 will be released. Of course there is also a poll to vote for the month you think it will be released. [thanks BerrymanGirl1]
