Andy J Gallagher was bang on - Strawberry Swing video nominated for various awards!

strawberryswing1.jpgAndy J Gallagher will be chuffed to bits - his prediction that Coldplay's video for Strawberry Swing would be nominated for various awards came true today. Here's Anchorman with more details:

Good morning. It's just been announced that the videos for Strawberry Swing and Life In Technicolor ii have both been nominated for awards at the 2009 UK Music Video Awards. The awards will be presented at the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square, London on October 13th. Wonder if the Coldplay-shaped puppets will be hiring suits. They're up for the following:

Best Animation in a Video - Strawberry Swing

Best Art Direction in a Video - Life In Technicolor ii

Best Rock Video - Life In Technicolor ii, Strawberry Swing

Best Visual Effects in a Video - Life In Technicolor ii

Recently the singer-songwriter, Andy J Gallagher, came forward to suggest that Coldplay/Shynola copied his idea in their video for new single 'Strawberry Swing', which was made using stop-animation and features singer Chris Martin acting alongside chalk drawings.

Gallagher claimed that it bears similarities to his music video for 'Something Else', which he released last year. He told CMU Music: "While I can't say they copied me, there are an awful lot of similarities between my video and theirs. I think it's unfair that 'Strawberry Swing' will probably be nominated for numerous awards and is being universally-acclaimed as groundbreaking, when ['Something Else' director] Owen Trevor had virtually the same idea at least a year before."

Well, Mr Gallagher you should have put a bet on! More discussion on these video nominations are at the Coldplay forum here onwards [thanks verussia & Stefan-C8]
