Actor Gael Garcia Bernal, star of the Motorcycle Diaries, has joined actors such as Antonio Banderas and Colin Firth by lending his voice to the 'Big Noise' petition designed to fight worldwide poverty. The Oxfam global petition of 17.8 million people demands that world leaders change trade laws to help small farmers and the poor.
A number of celebrities including Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Alanis Morrisette, and Djimon Hounsou have joined the fight to demand reform at the World Trade Organization meeting in Hong Kong from December 13-18. The delegation consisting of celebrity campaigners has traveled to Hong Kong to lend their support to Oxfam’s 'Make Trade Fair' campaign.
"The voices of these celebrities joined with the voices of 18 million people across the world creates a powerful force demanding change," said Phil Bloomer, leader of the Oxfam delegation. The celebrity delegation also aims to draw attention to the damage created by wealthy nations when they send their unwanted farm goods to impoverished countries.
