Chris Martin has praised Britain's generous response to charitable campaigns - insisting his countrymen are unfairly portrayed as miserly.
Brits responded overwhelmingly to the 26 December tsunami, raising tens of millions of pounds for victims of the killer wave in Asia - but Martin insists this is typical behaviour.
Speaking after a charity trip to Africa to promote his Make Trade Fair campaign, the singer says, "Britain is often misrepresented as a nation of cynical bastards but most people want people around the world to be happy."
