The winner of a Radio One songwriting competition will play in Whitehaven this month. The Little White Lies won the contest organised by breakfast show DJ Chris Moyles and judged by Coldplay's Chris Martin, who described them as an ‘exceptional talent’.
The four-piece band from Liverpool has performed with The Hoosiers, Scouting for Girls and Wheatus. Now they will share the stage at the Marchon Theatre with local acts GO, Luke Telford, Mazzoni's Mike Proud and Reay Mckew, Barrow band The Irie and DJ Mark Carrol.
Whitehaven women Stacey Gribbin and Natasha Brigg are putting on the indie night Dance to the Radio to try to make a difference to west Cumbria’s music scene. Stacey said: “ Our first event, which took place last November, was a tremendous success – we managed to pull in a crowd of over 400.”Dance to the Radio, an 18+ event, will be held in the Marchon Club, Whitehaven on February 15. Tickets, priced £5 in advance or £6 on the door, are available now from the Rum Story on Lowther Street.
