The Sun today has published an article about festive songs, revealing that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has a belter of a Christmas song which has been burning a hole in his MacBook for more than 12 months now. More discussion on this is at the Coldplay forum now.

Chris Martin was part of the last non-X Factor Christmas UK number one five years ago with the reworked Band Aid single, Band Aid 20. He's also the kind of bloke, The Sun continue, who is partial to a novelty reindeer jumper... so they're 'writing a letter to Santa' to ask if he can persuade Chris to release it.

Even bookies Paddy Power back Chris Martin. A spokesman said: "This year is probably the weakest list of contenders we've seen for the Xmas No1 in a long time. If anyone could write a classic Xmas song from the current crop, it's surely Chris Martin."
