Coldplay covered The Flaming Lips and paid tribute to the band, whose singer Wayne Coyne was in the audience, at their show at Oklahoma on Saturday (February 1).
Chris Martin changed the lyrics of 'Everything's Not Lost' to "because you live in the same town as the Flaming Lips, the greatest band in the world," and led the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall crowd in a sing-along tribute to them, while Coyne pumped his fists in time to the music from his seat 15 rows back, according to fan Andrew Kirkpatrick, who was at the show.At the end of 'The Scientist' later in their set, after the rest of the band had left the stage, Martin played a few bars of 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots', and slipped a few bars of Justin Timberlake's 'Like I Love You' into 'In My Place' in the encore.
Coldplay have also played some new songs while on their current US tour. According to fan reports, in Dallas on Friday (January 31), Martin introduced a song called 'Moses', which he described as about "being in love with the most beautiful girl in the world", while at Austin on January 29 they played a track called 'A Ladder To The Sun', which he said was "a brand new song about falling in love, and how you don't care if the world knows it or not".
